NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott continues to blow our minds.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said he wants to build a new fence along the Mexican border that could trap immigrants who enter the country illegally into committing jailable crimes.

The remarks, part of an interview that aired Tuesday on the conservative podcast Ruthless, come after the governor vowed last week to finish portions of the Texas border wall that the Trump administration struggled to complete, and that the Biden administration has sought to end work on.

“Anybody coming across the border who in any way tries to damage that fence, they are guilty of two crimes,” he said. “One is trespassing, the other is vandalism.”

Under a disaster declaration issued earlier this month by the Republican governor, property offenses along the border are treated as higher level crimes.

“We will be putting these people in jail for a long time,” Abbott said.

This is too good not to share. Apparently there is nothing any Democrat does that isn’t a hangin’ offense.

This is the best part:

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz wants Dr. Anthony Fauci to be fired, alleging the nation’s top infectious disease expert “behaved more like a two-bit politician than a scientist” during the coronavirus pandemic.

My bold.

“Said the pot to the kettle.”

Cruz isn’t the first Texas Republican to express “dismay” over the Fauci emails.

“Fauci lost my trust long before this,” U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a Houston Republican, tweeted when the emails were first published. “Never contextualizing his statements, never giving honest risk assessments, always treating us like we are too stupid to do anything but lock-down and wear masks forever. The emails show it was worse than we thought.”

Blahblahblah.

There once was a time when there was enough of a critical mass of sane people so that the crackpots and wack-jobs could be shut down by society as a whole. Now, and this is truly frightening, that no longer seems to be the case (in the US anyway) and there seems to be enough of a critical mass of the nut-jobs that they can’t be shut down and their ideas, beliefs and CTs continually evolve and morph and robustly interfere with normalcy.

And now these nutjobs are holding more and more elected positions.

We’re at the point now where people are getting elected who are outright seditionists, calling for the destruction of democratic institutions by force.

Elected people who literally side with mob who attack the Capitol building over the police officers who were trying to protect legislators doing their constitutional duty. Some who were actually PART of the mob.

It’s like some areas of the US are electing ISIS members, whose goal is to destroy the country.

On his show the other night, Fucker Carlson was claiming that the FBI organized the attack on the Capitol. Today, Matt Gaetz and MTG echoed his comments on Twitter, and MTG demanded an investigation. Excuse me, but you voted against an investigation.

Moscow Mitch wants to prevent an investigation into Individual 1’s subpoenas for Democrats’ phone records.

I think this is right. But it’s not just about numbers (reaching a critical mass). It’s about the 24/7 support these people receive from “respectable” media outlets.

The mindset goes: Everyone who pays for cable pays for FoxNews, right? So it’s clearly legitimate–everything they say is clearly legitimate:

The nuts and crazies used to feel alone. Now they feel they are part of a force of millions—‘the majority’. And the reason they feel that is that wherever they look, the only television and radio and online environments they ever look at are telling them that their insane ideas are correct and righteous.

Very seriously: if FoxNews were made ‘opt-in’ instead of standard on all cable systems, many fewer people would believe that it and its messages are legitimate.

I so agree with this.

I’ve watched Fox turn my parents’ brains to mush over the past 2+ decades. It’s a horrifying thing to see. And it’s real.

Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch have done more to demolish democracy across the world than any other people I can think of in recent times.

Rupert’s on my death pool list. Perhaps keeping him alive. Monsters truly. Alas we cannot undo his citizenship, nor will Australia take him back.

Yeah. I really, really want to believe in karma for people like the Murdochs (but I tend toward a stubborn lack of belief in the supernatural).

Of interest: some, at least, of the Lincoln Project people have been working on the idea of advocating cable systems for making FoxNews opt-in, if not a separate charge:

(Reed Galen is listed as one of the co-founders of TLP, but doesn’t have a separate wikipedia page, so apparently isn’t a headline-grabber. ) “#CutTheCord” seems to be a more general hashtag (about changing the way cable companies exploit consumers), but it would be great to see ‘make FoxNews opt-in’ take off as a movement.

There is a Fry and Lauri take off of its a wonderful lifeabout how much better the world would be if Rupert Murdoch hadn’t existed.

Alas BBC seems to have excised all clips of it off the interwebs, but here is a transript

You know, when I entered this thread again… there were more than 2000 post which I hadn’t seen yet.

(People… I Love you… but 2000 is a Lot… )

PS- I’m kinda sad that it has been proven that no member of the Cusack family reads us anymore. I really liked those guys… even if that does mean to most of you that I’m an Asshole.

$80

( Gotta find a way to pay it back… )

( PPS- Define ‘everywhere’… )

Kind of like herd immunity. DumDum immunity.

Oh, for the good ol’ days when a conspiracy theorist’s output was limited to a mimeographed newsletter.

Maybe we could convince them being online makes them subject to government surveillance. Tell them of the tax vans that would roam the streets in the UK who could detect a TV was on in a flat and then chcek whether the address had paid the tax.

Capitol police officer Michael Fanone, who was beaten unconscious by the insurrectionists, and has been trying for weeks to get Qevin MqQarthy to talk to him, tried to shake hands with Congressman Andy Clyde today, and Clyde refused to shake his hand.

More on GQP congressmen lying their asses off. Gosar this time. 1 Gohmert = 1 Gosar.

Note he was one of the 21 liars who voted against a congressional medal for the Capitol Police.

While questioning FBI Director Christopher Wray during a House Oversight and Reform hearing Tuesday, Arizona House Republican Rep. Paul Gosar asked if Wray knew who “executed” Babbitt, the white woman who not only stormed the Capitol but was caught on video attempting to climb through a window when she was shot, while a group of fellow insurrectionists were attempting to break through congressional doors."

Wray showed more composure than I would have: gone streaking across the tables and strangled the moron - but not completely - that would be bad.

A Republican candidate for Charlie Crist’s House seat has been caught on tape bragging that he could have his primary opponent (who’s backed by Matt Gaetz, because there’s no good guy in a battle between Florida Men) murdered.

So Democrats are going to turn this country into a socialist communist shithole, but let’s use their hit squads.

Wow. AZ is really impressing me these days  What a piece of shit that guy is!

Gosar makes Biggs look smart and I gotta tell ya, that’s no easy feat.

Rep. Paul Gosar’s brother on CNN just now: “On behalf of the actual sane members of our family, which is everyone but Paul, we apologize for his despicable comments and disgraceful comments.”
