The Satanic Temple is claiming that Texas’s new anti-abortion law violates their religious rights.
If the ST prevails (and I think they will) I’d then argue that a person’s beliefs as an atheist should allow them to circumvent the law in the same way as any non-atheist could cite their beliefs to circumvent the law. BAM! Law done.
Great, now I have to become a member of a Satanic Temple. And thus I become what the religious freaks in my sphere already think I am.
Life is getting really strange.
If more people followed their ideas we’d all be happier, I think.
The nonpartisan Colorado redistricting commission has bundled Lauren Boebert in with Democratic Congressman Joe Neguse. I hope it’s her that this damages, and not Neguse.
I don’t have a link for this because even the local news media can’t be bothered to cover anything happening in Olympia that doesn’t directly involve state government, but here’s a summary (mostly cribbed from social media) of a series of stupid Republican ideas that turned into a clusterfuck today;
-
The state employees’ union was planning a picket on the Capitol grounds to protest Jay Inslee’s mandate for all state employees to get vaccinated by the middle of next month.
-
The picket ended before it started, because the state employees’ union announced a deal with Inslee that keeps the mandate in place but allows for a few exemptions and gives workers paid time off to get the shot.
-
In the meantime, though, alt-right social media decided that “antifa” was being bussed into town to attack the protestors, and the Proud Boys took it upon themselves to declare themselves “security” for the picket.
-
When the Proud Boys showed up and found no picketers and no antifa, they decided to briefly protest outside a United Church of Christ near the Capitol, which they determined was an “antifa building” because it flies a rainbow flag and a BLM flag.
-
They then decided to march downtown to look for antifa, and decided that a small group of counter-protestors that met them downtown were said antifa, and started chasing then on foot while brandishing weapons.
-
As the “antifa” fled toward the bus terminal, one of the Proud Boys accidentally shot himself in the foot and had to be transported to the ER, where he’s probably still waiting to be treated because their ICU is filled to capacity with unvaccinated people who’ve caught covid.
-
As a result, the bus terminal was closed down for hours and all the busses that go through downtown have had to detour - and now the bus I need to take home from work is running late because of it.
It’d be hilarious if it weren’t all so stupid and depressing and mildly terrifying.
It reminds me of this oldie but goodie from the Onion;
I’m surprised he didn’t claim “antifa” shot him.
The alt-right sites that have picked it up are claiming a “leftist” shot him, but everything I’ve seen indicates it was self-inflicted.
I’m surprised that the Proud Boys were standing up in defense of a state employees union. What are they commies?
The employees’ union was opposed to the vaccine mandate, which I guess is all it takes for them to become True Patriots who need defending from the evil Antifa hordes lurking in the shadows. After all, outside of the Puget Sound area and Vancouver, most of WA is rural, conservative, and basically Alabama-lite, owing to our state’s proud legacy of being settled by disaffected southerners who moved west after the Civil War because the territorial government prohibited blacks from settling here.
Here’s a story about the settlement between the union and the state;
I know why they did it, I still find it funny based on how they usually equate public unions with the down fall of western civilization.
That’s probably the end of Boebert - for now. Colorado is a state where the bi-partisan commission redistricting movement might actually produce competitive elections. But Republicans are likely to benefit from redistricting in the 2020s the same way they did in the 10s.
It’s pretty clear that this guy is a secret crypto-leftist who infiltrated the Proud Boys for the sole purpose of making them look like idiots by shooting himself in the foot. It’s the only thing that makes sense!
I wasn’t aware they needed help.
Lauren Boebert calls for the impeachment of Kamala Harris because she won’t invoke the 25th Amendment.
A couple of weeks back I overhead three guys discussing Biden’s advanced dementia, and how his family and the Democrats should be ashamed for making such a senile old man do what he does. No one who watches more than 60 seconds of a Biden speech could possibly hold this belief, yet it’s apparently gospel in the Faux News alternate reality.
OK, procedurally I’m not sure how lots of stuff works in Washington. But couldn’t Rep. Bobert try to get the 25th ammendment thing rolling herself if she really wanted to?
Not really. She could try to get Congress to establish “any other body,” but Harris would still have to be an active participant in the process.
I suppose one explanation for the overall nonsense, other than throwing crap at the wall to see if it sticks, is to try to push governance into limiting free speech so the Republicans can then scream about censorship and further erode trust in democracy.
So, if Boebert got her way (Biden out due to 25th, Harris out due to impeachment), we would have President Pelosi. I’m absolutely positive that is what she is aiming for. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
