The Austin school district, one of the largest in the state, will not comply with a request from the Republican leader of the Texas House General Investigating Committee to confirm whether it carries certain books in its libraries.
“After doing more legal research, we’ve decided that a response is not necessary, especially since anyone can search our library catalogs,” said district spokesman Jason Stanford.
…
IOW, we have a card catalog, you freakin’ loser. Send out your goons to collect your censorship list. If you have enough of them that can read! P.S. To search the card cataog, they also need to know the alphabet – good luck with that.
Krause doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the books or the kids’ sensitivities. It’s a loyalty test, pure and simple, and a way of out-Paxtoning Paxton. Dear God, the way these Republicans are outdoing each other–there really is no bottom limit.
That’s something that I was wondering - does an individual member of the legislature have any actual legal authority to make such demands? I mean, a committee could issue subpoenas that have legal weight, but what exactly could an individual do on their own?
My guess would be that they don’t. Like I said, I don’t think Krause cares one bit about producing any kind of censorship list. What would he even do with it? He’s just showing off for the evangelical conservative voters. “How low can I go? I’ll show you!” Maybe a public book-burning? It could replace the ill-fated Aggie bonfire.
I think the thing I hate most about the Trump Era is the fact that things I would have dismissed out of hand as ridiculous conspiracy theories just a few years ago now actually seem plausible to me.
Yeah, sure, “people” “linked” to “General Flynn” wanted a “candidate for Senator” to “find” “information” to “blackmail” state “officials”, even if he “needs” to resort to “domestic terrorism”, why not?
I wonder how long it will be before I just outright believe something that has absolutely no basis in reality, because the wall o’ crap we’ve been getting finally just blinds me.
I read many Philip K dick novels in my youth. I had a theory that, in every book, there was one point where you could tell with absolute certainty he’d dropped acid while writing.
Well, when you have actual elected people like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert “making jokes” about blowing up metal detectors at the Capitol, it’s easy to understand our confusion about what’s cool or uncool or real or unreal or whatever.
This can either be an attempt to garner headlines or legit. Either is plausible. If it IS real, I give him a tiny bit of credit for blowing the whistle.
Now that the FBI has decided that threats of violence are A-OK as long as they are aspirational, meaning that the planners didn’t post the details of the time and place of the attack on public forums, expect to see a lot more of this.
Actually, I’m not sure how the FBI is defining their “aspirational threats are OK as long as they target Democrats and RINOS” policy. ETA - “Actually, I think k the policy is better described as “threats that target Democrats and RINOS are always aspirational”.
Because the last time that happened, the Director of the FBI called the threats aspirational and declined to investigate further even though all the threats DID mention the time and place of the proposed attack.
I’m starting to think that the hard conservative Federalist Society FBI director wouldn’t mind seeing the government overthrown.
The Washington Post published an incredibly detailed piece on January 6th yesterday. This is a gifted link, it’s free for two weeks. It makes the FBI look bad. Really really bad. They blew off hundreds of tips before January 6th, because they were “aspirational” - which is new code for IOKWARD, I think.
This is a LONG piece, I’m just finishing up the first section. But it’s worth it. I’m thinking of sending the link to the FBI tip line.
What I don’t get is, if this is real, why the hell is he still running as a Republican? What does it take to get someone to abandon this party?
I mean, I can sort of understand some MAGAHat Everydude living in the middle of nowhere buying into all the BS about how it’s “really Antifa and BLM!” who are doing all the bad stuff, and how everything bad you hear about Trump and his cronies is just Democrat lies. It’s BS, but I can see how someone who consumes nothing buy Fox News and OANN propaganda will believe it.
But this guy has (allegedly!) seen the corruption, and what he considers to be actual treason, with his own eyes - and yet he’s still a Republican.
Josh Hawley getting mocked for his comments on masculinity.
“Can we be surprised that after years of being told that they are the problem, that their manhood is the problem, more and more men are withdrawing into the enclave of idleness and pornography and video games?” Hawley said.
“While the left may celebrate this decline of men, I for one cannot join them. No one should.”
Hawley, 41, did not cite sources for his belief that men were watching pornography more frequently. Nonetheless on Monday his speech was republished by the Federalist, a rightwing outlet. In the address, Hawley said he wanted to discuss “the left’s attempt to give us a world beyond men”.
“The left want to define traditional masculinity as toxic,” he said. “They want to define the traditional masculine virtues – things like courage, and independence, and assertiveness – as a danger to society.”
Hawley is the son of a banker who attended private school before studying at Stanford and Yale. He clerked for the supreme court chief justice, John Roberts, and later became a law professor.
Besides the joke of such commentary coming from a man like Josh Hawley it does bring to mind the wider obsession with defining manhood from the republican party. I remember they used to frequently imply Obama was a wimp. But they lose credibility if Donald Trump who was born with a golden spoon in his mouth is their icon of toughness and what it means to be a man.
Don’t be so sure this message isn’t working on some segments of voters. The GOP has fairly successfully branded themselves as the party of “Patriots” and “Real Americans”, now add to that “Real Men”. For some voters it’s all about sorting oneself and identity.
