NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 1)

So he’s already decided that this hypothetical woman is not as qualified as a hypothetical (presumably male, white) applicant.

Nice that he can see into the future.

He doesn’t need to be able to see into the future, he only has to look at the past. We have a long history in this country of applying tests to see who is qualified and who isn’t. The simplest, of course, being the paper bag test. If your skin is lighter than a brown, paper bag, then you are a qualified individual. If your skin is the same color as, or darker, than a brown, paper bag, you only got to where you are through affirmative action. Easy-peasy, no thinking required. In fact, thinking is actively discouraged.

An Arizona lawmaker has introduced a bill that eliminates absentee voting, requires vote counting to finish within 24 hours of the polls closing, and empowers the legislature to nullify the results if they don’t like them.

and certainly not be letting the negroes and mexicans be doing any, just like back then

Yes, that’s how the right has long seen the process of appointments, hirings, and higher-education enrollment.

Meritocracy” is defined as “all jobs, appointments, and enrollments go to straight white Christian males” with the corollary “who are clearly the best-qualified in all cases.”

Anyone who fails the Straight White Christian Male test on any count, obviously got their job/appointment/enrollment through affirmative action.

Same for the TV shows hosted by Steve Harvey. “Family Feud” and “Judge Steve Harvey” are both taped in Georgia.

There’s some seriously stupid stuff here… :woman_facepalming:t4:

The National Butterfly Center on the Rio Grande in Mission, long a target of far-right conspiracy theories, closed this weekend after receiving “credible threats” against staff.

Marianna Wright, the center’s executive director, made the decision after a recent confrontation with a Republican congressional candidate from Virginia. Wright told police that Kimberly Lowe visited the center, demanding to see “illegals crossing on rafts,” echoing baseless conspiracy theories linking the butterfly sanctuary to sex trafficking.

Wright said she fears more of the same would occur if she were to keep the center open during this weekend’s “We Stand America” rally in neighboring McAllen. The event will “focus on border law enforcement and the direct connection to election integrity from a biblical worldview,” with featured speakers including former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was convicted of lying to the FBI.

“The playbook is to incite violence,” Wright said. “We simply can’t risk our lives or those of our members and visitors, knowing that this hate speech, domestic terrorist organization is planning their national midterm kickoff rally in McAllen.”

Wright has fended off conspiracy theorists for years, after the center filed suit against the Homeland Security Department in 2017 over former President Donald Trump’s plans to build a border wall through the 100-acre nature preserve.

On any given day, hundreds of species of butterflies flit through the nonprofit sanctuary, which is part of the North American Butterfly Association. Birders from across the country visit the refuge to observe and photograph birds unique to the Rio Grande Valley, and thousands of local schoolchildren take field trips to the center each year.

Meanwhile, since 2019, right-wing social media trolls have falsely claimed there were dead bodies and a “rampant sex trade” at the center. Some have threatened Wright.

Read on. It gets worse.

Afraid of a butterfly sanctuary. And they call Democrats ‘snow flakes’.

IIUC, in Spanish, the word for butterfly is vernacular for a homosexual man, so it is really just homophobia.

Unless they failed the test by being female. Then they slept they way to any job/appointment/enrollment they were given.

What’s the word?

“Mariposa.”

I can’t believe Michelle Obama hasn’t been mentioned yet. She is a lawyer & the reaction from the right would be beyond fabulous.

40,000 jobs, and 17,000 small businesses involved in the Georgia film industry. And MTG wants them out.

I’d suggest the Dems run with that for the next election but that would require the Dems to be remotely competent.

Lots of people on Twitter have mentioned Michelle, along with suggesting Anita Hill. IIRC, however, both Michelle and Barack have said that they are not at all interested in serving on the SCOTUS.

Anita Hill would be sweet.

True. Of course nothing stops the right from claiming both ‘affirmative action’ and ‘sluttiness’ as explanations of females getting any particular job (that more properly belongs to a Straight White Christian Male).

c.f. Kamala Harris

Trouble is, most of those jobs are in the Atlanta area - and we know what Marjorie Taylor Greene’s constituents think of the Atlanta area, and the people who live and work there!

In her district, she’ll probably pick up some votes. Hopefully some Democrats running in the Atlanta suburbs can make electoral hay with it.
