At first, Hicks also refused to budge under the wave of criticism, asking to whom he should apologize.
“The critics on the Facebook page?” he wrote in a Saturday email to reporters that he posted online. “I would never apologize to them. They’re liberal Marxist parasites.”
But on Sunday, Hicks admitted he was wrong to equate government orders to wear masks with the deaths of millions of Jews at the hands of Nazi Germany.
“It is not my intention to heap more pain onto this historical burden, and it’s apparent I previously lacked an adequate understanding of the severity of their experience and the pain of its images,” he wrote. “To that end, I am removing the cartoon with apologies to those so directly affected.”
That line gobsmacked me, too. I mean, he never considered that having your family and your community exterminated might be a painful memory to some people?
Anyone believe he reexamined his position by studying the history and getting input from community sources? Anyone?
Anyone believe he now has a greater understanding and empathy for the individuals, families, ethnic and religious entities that suffered from and still are subject to orchestrated hatred? Anyone?
He said “… with apologies to those so directly affected.” Classic CYA non-apology, just like “…to anyone who might have been hurt…” So, no: if you were not "so directly affected”, hey, buck up, sissypants.
I was going to say ‘I bet this is one of those motherfuckers who gets upset when you compare Trump’s blatantly racially motivated curtailing of rights to Hitler’…then I got to this part.
Sometimes it’s depressing, being right.
(Edit… Hope nesting quotes actually works… Gotta get attribution right.)
I should probably be ashamed of how much pleasure I am getting from watching the about-face from elected Republicans on masks. Their base staked their identity, their manhood in many cases, in not being like the namby-pamby Chicken Little liberals wearing masks out at the supermarkets. Now they have to eat it, bend over and take not only the (perceived) humiliation of the masks themselves, but the tacit acknowledgement that the smug liberal elites were right all along.
My experience is that students with attitudes like yours are not going to put in the time on their homework, and then they’re surprised when they make a mess of their oral presentation.
How in the #^@<( is anyone listening to this guy anyway? After the whole blowup 30 years ago, with adultery charges, rape charges, and homosexuality claims, … I know the Lord says to forgive transgressions, but how can anyone trust or believe him? I’m sure he’s sorry for his past transgressions, but they were enough to remove him from ANY religious credibility. It takes a HUGE set of balls to get back into the game…
Gee, per Wikipedia,
Um, wait a minute. Isn’t that kinda like a huge oxymoron? If you’re sure of end times and second coming and preaching to be part of the rapture, you aren’t going to need emergency survival products 'cause you’re going to get raptured. If you need the products, he isn’t doing a good enough job preaching!
I recall people saying the same about Trump. Even Jon Oliver challenged Trump to run, under the (quite logical) belief that he’d crash and burn while making a twat out of himself.
Don’t underestimate the cray cray
Unfortunately the GOP now lacks all principles and self-reflection, so hypocrisy is water off a duck’s back. You could list examples of republicans contradicting themselves all day.
They’ll find a way to blame Dems.
Fortunately, from the approval ratings it seems the electorate is not buying it, but as I just said, I don’t underestimate how many nutters are out there any more.
It goes like this: “You wanted us to wear masks and now we are and you are STILL complaining? Stupid liberals, all you do is complain about the President no matter what he says or does. We’d be wearing masks sooner if Obama didn’t leave the cupboards bare. #MAGA!”
