It always baffles me how transphobes never seem to see how much of an own-goal those kinds of jeers are.
On the one hand, “There are only two genders as established by God Himself and irrevocably determined by genes and anatomy at birth, and any attempt to ‘identify’ as a different gender is self-evidently the most transparent and delusional fakery!”
On the other hand, “This woman who has publicly presented and identified as female for the entire 73 years of her life and has always been acknowledged as female, including by the obstetricians who delivered her children, might in fact have a penis! There’s simply no way for us to be sure that she doesn’t!”
I mean, dude, you just made a pretty powerful argument there for acknowledging the validity of transgender identity. If you really think that any woman who’s been universally perceived and accepted as female for many decades might turn out to have a secret penis that most people never knew about, then why is it such a big deal to you whether a woman has a penis or not? Clearly it doesn’t necessarily stop her from living successfully and happily as a woman.
This would require Republicans to have a sense of irony and self-awareness, which they don’t.
