NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

Perhaps the NRSC has deep pockets.

Here is my guess as to what’s going on with Nick Adams.

Nicks sole claim to fame is that at some point Trump tweeted out that he liked Nick Adams’ books. That tweet probably quadrupled his sales overnight. In order to keep sales up he needs Trump to twuth about him again, and figures that the best way to do that is to shamelessly suck up and hope that Trump notices.

Allen West (remember him?) has declared himself a member of the Knights Templar.

Where is Hagbard Celine when we need him?

Just imagine how stupid a tweet would have to be for him to delete it.

Or you don’t have to imagine, because here it is.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Hundreds of thousands of people signed petitions this year backing proposed ballot initiatives to expand voting access, ensure abortion rights and legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona, Arkansas and Michigan.

Yet voters might not get a say because Republican officials or judges have blocked the proposals from the November elections, citing flawed wording, procedural shortcomings or insufficient petition signatures.

My bold.

“And besides, we just don’t like those things, okay!”

At the same time, Republican lawmakers in Arkansas and Arizona have placed constitutional amendments on the ballot proposing to make it harder to approve citizen initiatives in the future.

The Republican pushback against the initiative process is part of a several-year trend that gained steam as Democratic-aligned groups have increasingly used petitions to force public votes on issues that Republican-led legislatures have opposed.

Who do those uppity voters think they are anyway? Citizens or something?

If they were Citizen-Soldiers I bet the GOP would care! (unlikely).

In many states it seems as though voters prefer Democratic policies but Republican politicians. See Florida’s minimum wage and felon voting propositions, Arizona’s marijuana legalization and education surtax - there are probably quite a few other examples.

Some of this is probably due to gerrymandering, but when ballot measures win by 15 points while state houses are gerrymandered to parlay minorities or bare majorities into supermajority legislatures, there must be significant crossover voting happening.

I’ve wondered if the availability of direct-democracy features allows voters to “pick and choose” their issues - voting for a progressive measure that they want to have happen while allowing them to vote Republican for their representative even if that rep doesn’t support the measure they try to vote in. In a sense, this would act as a kind of safety valve for progressive pressure on the elected representatives.

So - will Democrats be able to pick up seats by running more full-throatedly in favor of progressive policies? Tune in in a couple of months. It seems to be the case for abortion rights in a lot of places right now; if Republicans start losing because of these issues, things could get interesting.

In the American system, true victory for an issue is not attained when the majority party supports an issue and enacts it into law; it is attained when both parties fully support an issue and the Overton window for repealing it has closed. Will voters punish Republicans for opposing issues they favor? Will Republicans try to triangulate away from their base in the general election, and will they stick with those stances if they achieve office?

There is shamelessly sucking up, and then there is just making a parody of yourself. I mean, he is outdoing The Onion at this point.

OMG, Donnie Junior is so stoned it’s strange they haven’t taken this down yet.

Some are already scrubbing their websites of their anti-choice statements.

Does he not know there’s been “a nuclear-capable China” since 1964?

No, of course he doesn’t.

“Choooooo Biden is whaaat shtants between us and a nuclar cabable Jina”

Jesus, he’s fried.

It’s pronounced “Gina”.
-SNL Trump

Republican nominee for Wisconsin state Assembly has a felony conviction for choking an employee. That didn’t prevent him from winning the primary, mainly because the county Republican Party didn’t think he would win, so they didn’t bother to publicize his criminal past. But now it comes out that he went to the police of his own accord to protest that somebody was blackmailing him with a video of him giving another guy a blow job. Oh, and the guy is anti-gay.

When he gets to the no anus bit, I’m out.

Except that often, it requires some kind of legislative process to implement the results of a referendum on a specific issue, and that’s another place where asshole politicians can screw with the results.

Consider this example:

On November 6, 2018, 65% of Florida voters approved Amendment 4, which automatically restores the voting rights of people convicted of a felony—except murder or sexual offences[3]—after the completion of their sentences.[4][5] In July 2019, however, Republicans in Florida’s state legislature enacted Senate bill 7066, which requires ex-felons (who have served their sentences) to pay off all outstanding fines, fees, and restitutions before regaining their right to vote.[6] This law disenfranchised around 774,000 people because of outstanding financial obligations.

At 65%, Florida vote unequivocally in favor of restoring voting rights to felons, but the Republicans still managed to add in just enough fuckery to derail the will of the people.

Loser Donald claims he met with Mark Zuckerberg at the White House last week and Zuckerberg told him he was “#1 on Facebook”, which he is banned from.

Was that rally on Sept 3rd ??? Or was that years ago?
