Sure, but repealing an amendment is tough. You have to have a new amendment that says (in this case) ‘women must be protected from all the evils that follow from voting and therefore no women may vote, for their own good; the 19th Amendment is hereby overturned.’ The red states would ratify—assuming the new amendment got through Congress, which is a big “if” unless Democrats are all expelled. But there are too many sane states for the misogynists to be certain of getting the 38 they need.
Faster: simply make all women felons (and make sure as many states as possible prohibit that type of felon from voting).
State laws could make it possible for any woman to be “awarded” felon status not just by having an abortion, but by being accused of having had one. Or by being accused of having had a miscarriage. Or by being accused of having helped some woman obtain either abortion or birth control—that would take care of all the post-menopausal women.
(There are people quite seriously brainstorming how all this could be made a reality.)
What the GOP will put out is the “it’s for their own good because we love and cherish them so much” messaging.
You have to give people a fig leaf for their votes–for example, you have to give them ‘I’m voting for Trump not because he’s an obvious racist and so am I and that’s who I want as President. No, it’s nothing to do with that delicious racism; I’m voting for him because he’s such a Brilliant Businessman and that’s What the Country Needs.’
The livestock classification can come after women have actually lost the 19th Amendment. Then, what they think won’t matter. (Break out the sow crates!)
If all this is the new loud part, I shudder to think what the quiet part is.
And I mean that mostly literally. If they’re coming right out and saying they think it should be illegal to be gay and women shouldn’t be allowed to cross state lines and 20 year olds shouldn’t be allowed to vote…what are they saying that they don’t want us to hear?
Depends on how you listen. We hear them saying that they want to widen the class divide, while their constituency hears them saying they support joesixpack. We hear NSDAP rhetoric while the base hears that they want to create a wonderful, idyllic River City Iowa nation. It depends on who is listening and what they want to hear.
Growing up in a farming community, I still know a bunch of farmers. And the vast majority of them vote GOP, railing about big government and high taxes while they quietly accept their six or seven figure subsidy checks each year.
Yep, I have known a number of people who complain about people on welfare or public assistance while gladly cashing their farm subsidy checks. I guess it’s OK when the government gives out money to white people. (A variation of IOKIARDI, I suppose.)
Bill Barr asked Italian officials to provide proof that the probe into the Individual 1-Russia connection was fake. Instead, they provided evidence of Individual 1’s connections to criminal activities.
