One of my students here in China is an ardent Trump supporter. Why? Who the fuck knows? But he certainly shares something with those women: a complete inability to follow a timeline. He tried to prove to me that it’s NATO’s fault that Russia attacked Ukraine and had events of the last 40 years garbled as to when they happened. Hey, one of my favorite stories is Brunner’s Times Without Number, but I recognize it as fiction. In the real world, events do not relocate on the timeline. Those women not only are not critical thinkers, they’re not thinkers. They’re just repeating the latest bogey person as their mantra. In short, they’re the common clay of the new west, as someone else posted above.

There is a church volunteer run program out this way that goes to stores and farms to pick up the surplus and/or close to expiring food to give to the food banks. Once the food banks have everything they want, the food get taken to local community centers and handed out to local residents without any sort of income requirements. (These are not food boxes like folks get at food banks, these are just boxes of random perishable food items, most of which I also give away.) After all of the people have taken all they want, the rest goes to the local Future Farmers of America kids to feed their livestock. Very little of the food ends up in the landfills.
I get really steamed when I see PAB bumper stickers on new pick-ups in line. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN A SOCIALIST LINE, YOU IGNORANT SON OF A BITCH!!! I don’t say that part where they can hear me, but I think it really loud.
It’s good that I’m old. You only get so many give a shits in a lifetime and I ran out of mine a few years ago. Plus, I smoke a whole bunch of weed which really helps with the whole “don’t give a shit” thing.

And not only is the NTSB not part of the Department of Transportation, it’s not even the correct agency. From what I’ve read in several articles about the derailment, it’s the Federal Railroad Administration that is in charge of railroad safety. (ETA: which is part of DOT.)
