And that series of things comes directly from “purity balls/promise rings” culture (aka a father owns his children and in particular his daughters), so a big chunk of the base he is courting is perfectly fine with it.
The judge in the Sandy Hook parents’ lawsuit against Alex Jones has ruled that if Jones does not appear Friday for his hearing, he will be held in contempt, and ordered to pay $25,000 a day until he appears.
Doesn’t count for squat if a judge isn’t willing to drop the hammer and order everything Jones owns seized and sold off. I mean like yesterday. Default judgment and everything goes under the hammer within 24 hours. Arrest him (on air would be great) and strip him of everything of value, right down to his shorts. Impound, freeze, seize. It’s the only way to get any settlement happening.
They did. [ETA for clarity: Jones didn’t show up for the actual trial and the default judgement was rendered then.] This is the penalty phase that he’s not showing up for. A couple weeks back he apparently sent a doctor’s note (with no letterhead and damned little other information) to his lawyer (who passed it off to his un-filled-in partner because he was flying somewhere at the time) that Jones had an unnamed medical condition that prevented him from being at the deposition and that he was under a doctor’s supervision at home. Mind you, the note didn’t say he had to stay home, or that he couldn’t work.
In the middle of the hearing, the poor fall guy lawyer and the entire court are informed by the plaintiff’s lawyer that Jones is broadcasting live from his studio and has been for some time.
The judge was not pleased. The regular lawyer was informed that he would ensure Jones showed up for the next scheduled hearing. Sounds like he skipped out again, so the judge is now speaking very clearly to his wallet.
(Tuesday I got to listen to a dramatic reading of the transcript from that hearing, and it was a stitch.)
That might be his strategy: Look like a poor victim of those thuggish government agents repressing him, and generate enough new money from his suckers to cover the damages the court imposes.
I forgot to say that the broadcast he was making when he was supposed to be getting deposed was apparently raising funds for his legal fees and penalties. It’s become a real farce.
Whichever is more humiliating. But more important is that he stays in custody until he’s paid the judgement against him, plus whatever’s appropriate for contempt of court.
DENNIS: Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I’m being repressed!
ARTHUR: Bloody peasant!
DENNIS: Oh, what a give-away. Did you hear that? Did you hear that, eh? That’s what I’m on about. Did you see him repressing me? You saw it, didn’t you?
