Moms Of Outrage, or whatever they call themselves, allegedly found a memo/letter from a Florida teachers org detailing how teachers will be dealing with laws restricting sex-related language: by redacting all gender-specific language of any kind (pronouns and nouns) everywhere and using “Mx.” to replace Mr/Miss/Mrs/Ms. It is most likely a fake, but still funny.
Agreed. Why won’t the US let legal adults drink alcohol? They can buy real property, can sign contracts, can emancipate themselves from their parents without a court order at age 18, but they cannot have a beer? Ridiculous.
But letting legal adults (and yes, a legal adult is 18 years old, not 21) not buy a beer in a neighbourhood pub, or a six-pack in a liquor store, while allowing that same person to sign a contract of sale in order to buy a house costing in the hundreds of thousands, regardless of what their parents say? Or a car, costing tens of thousands? Or negotiating a loan for that car with a bank? Or anything else a legal adult can do? Double ridiculous.
The lower the drinking age, the lower the BAC limit, the lower the speed limit, the larger net cast and the greater the bonanza for the police industrial complex.
Here’s an article from a lesbian mother with a point of view: She claims that our schools are indoctrinating children to be cis straight, without ever using those words, simply by teaching them the standard stereotyped role models. (This is hardly anything new – Remember those Dick and Jane books we used? Father goes to work. Mother stays home and cooks.)
It’s sillier than you think. The drinking age–both on and off base–for the United States military members, yet the drinking age in South Korea is 19. So, of course, one of the common reasons young 18 and 19 year old US servicemembers get in trouble with the US military is going off base and drinking, then returning to the base under the influence.
As I’ve said, this is basically why, when condemning china, republicans must always call it communist china.
Because, the reasons most people condemn china: lack of democracy, repression of a Muslim minority, repression of gay, trans etc, authoritarian government with draconian punishments…they are totally on board with.
But “communist” still works as a scary word, even if china isn’t actually very communist.
Until recently, I never noticed that Ben Shapiro is pretty much always wearing a plain black yarmulke, and the fact that he does just puzzles me. It blends into his hair so perfectly that it’s difficult to even notice it if you aren’t looking. It’s like he’s wearing his Judaism on his sleeve while simultaneously hoping that the demographic he’s appealing to doesn’t find out about it, like some kind of reverse dog whistle.
Matt Gaetz voted against lowering the price of insulin because "90-95% of people with diabetes have type 2 diabetes, which “can be prevented or delayed with healthy lifestyle changes, such as losing weight, eating healthy food, and being active.” Arbitrary price controls are no substitute for individual weight control. Since 2000, the number of diabetes cases in the U.S. has nearly doubled. The demand for insulin has increased and the requisite price increase has followed suit. In other words, the price of insulin increases as waistlines increase. "
