NEW Stupid Republican Idea of the Day (Part 2)

A while back my daughter, who was in Denver, sent me a text that she was going to pick up a couple of things on the way to the airport — and for some reason her phone’s autocorrect (sic) changed “airport” to “hospital.”

I asked her if her phone was trying to collect on my life insurance.

Florida Republican votes against his own bill to honor a black judge. Asked why, he said, “I don’t know.”

A bill to name a federal courthouse in Tallahassee after Justice Joseph W. Hatchett, the first Black man to serve on the Florida Supreme Court — sponsored by the state’s two Republican senators and backed unanimously by its 27 House members — was set to pass the House last month and become law with broad bipartisan support.

But in a last-minute flurry, Republicans abruptly pulled their backing with no explanation and ultimately killed the measure, leaving its fate unclear, many of its champions livid and some of its newfound opponents professing ignorance about what had happened.

Asked what made him vote against a measure that he had co-sponsored, Representative Vern Buchanan, Republican of Florida, was brief and blunt: “I don’t know,” he said.

“I don’t know”. Oh, I’ve got a feeling that he does know, you know?

Even though Ketanji Brown Jackson has already been confirmed, Lindsay Graham, who isn’t running for reelection for four more years, is running attack ads against her.

Y’know, I have a hard time understanding how it’s even possible to fail the GED three times. If you have the motivation, you pass. If you don’t have the motivation, you don’t take it. What possible psychological state, even for a Republican, would lead to taking it but failing?

Have you not considered simple, profound stupidity?

Commercial vehicles trying to enter the United States to deliver products from Mexico have been backed up for hours at Texas ports of entry following Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive on Wednesday that state troopers increase inspections.

“This continues to add disruption to our supply chain,” said Ermilo Richer, the owner of a 100-year-old logistics company in Laredo who said his trucks were taking between four and five hours to cross from Mexico. “It’s just something we don’t need right now.”

Abbott’s order is part of his push to stiffen security at the state’s southern border as the Biden administration in Washington, D.C., plans to end a pandemic-era emergency health order that had allowed federal officials to turn away migrants, even those seeking asylum. But officials in cities that depend on cross-border trade as economic engines fear negative impacts that the increased vehicle inspections could have.

On Friday afternoon, U.S. Customs and Border Protection showed five-hour delays for entry into Laredo through the Laredo-Colombia Solidarity International Bridge. The port of entry in Pharr had delays of more than four hours. El Paso’s two inland ports had delays of three hours.

Neither the Texas Department of Public Safety nor Abbott’s office responded to requests for comment.

WTG, Greg!

Oh, he might not know (yeah, right), but the sentient among us all know why. That party is not only a domestic terrorist organization and a criminal enterprise, but is also the champion of bigotry today.

The Republican National Committee is trying to claim that Biden is antisemitic because he made a joke about his nominee for the head of ATF controlled the weather at their press conference. The RNC had to point out that the nominee is Jewish, something which the vast majority of the world would not have noticed,

The Florida legislature has just handed over redistricting power to the governor, to let him gerrymander the districts. He’s already indicated he wants to break up two black majority districts.

They didn’t exactly pass a law to that effect. They simply said they would gladly produce whatever map DeSantis asks them to produce.

Joining the military “is like throwing your life away” according to Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Well, they knew what they were signing up for, saith Trump.

She saw all the publicity Empty Greene got for her ‘gazpacho police’ and thought to do her one better.

Perhaps every time Trump said “bigly” he was trying to say “bigotry” and we never noticed? 4-dimensional chess!

So, Republicans no longer support our troops? (Not that those yellow ribbon car magnets ever really helped much anyway…)

Some of them still do. Russian troops that is.

Actually what she’s saying is that people shouldn’t join the military as long as Biden is President.
