Between her and the Ronna McDaniel hire, it’s a wonder people still claim the news department at NBC is run by a bunch of socialists. Corporate scumbags and idiots? Sure, but by no stretch of the imagination some sort of shadowy Deep State intelligence operation.
The people who make that claim don’t know what the word “socialist” means other than “thing I don’t like because my information sources tell me not to”.
Wearing a t-shirt with McD’s floor stains for the rest of the day was no fun, though. And I’ve always felt slightly guilty about doing it, since I might really have ruined someone’s day.
Right. Also, the magaflatearthers use socialist and/or communist to mean someone not letting their traitor idol get away with something. I just a saw a few xits on Xitter where the aforementioned magaflatearthers are bemoaning the “unconstitutional decisions” of “the communist judge Merchan”. And let’s not forget what they believe fake means.
Margarine Failure Groane says she voted against a bill to combat antisemitism because it would deny her the right to believe that the Jews killed Jesus.
Greene explained. “[It] could convict Christians of antisemitism for believing the Gospel that says Jesus was handed over to Herod to be crucified by the Jews.”
How to make it clear you’ve never actually read the Bible in one sentence.
Umm, Marj? Getting crucified was God’s plan for Himself/Jesus from the beginning.
Also, it was the Romans who executed Jesus, not the Jews. In the Ancient Roman Empire that form of execution was not permitted for vassal states, if it was done it was done under and by Roman authority.
I wasn’t sure if she meant she thought Jesus was “crucified” by the Jews or just “handed over to Herod to be crucified”. Her grammar is as flawed as everything else about her.
Yep. And this, of course, is the oh-so-subtle nuance that eludes MTG, and what the antisemitism definition zeroes in on. MTG and others would be perfectly free to believe that Jewish leaders lobbied for Christ’s execution as punishment for his perceived heresy. Where it crosses the line is when that belief is used to justify vilifying, demonizing, and oppressing Jews. As you point out, this is one of antisemitism’s greatest hits.
BTW, there’s a detail that seems to escape the notice of this particular branch of antisemitism. If you embrace the gospels, one would think you’d notice that every person who followed, supported, protected, and loved Christ, the women who stayed physically by him to the end, his disciples, all of them were…wait for it…Jews. But that doesn’t count.
