This situation is like a perfect encapsulation of the MAGAT thought process. (And yes I know “MAGAT thought process” is an oxymoron.)
They see something they don’t like and don’t understand. And then immediately jump to the worst possible interpretation in their own mind. They want to be upset they want to be triggered. And rather than asking a logical question about any situation they’ve encountered, “huh, why is there a Mexican flag next to an American one? It doesn’t make sense in this situation. Maybe I should ask an administrator or something…” They go on Twitter and try to create another pointless controversy. They wallow in their ignorance.
That person’s next thought was probably something like, “well why does Minnesota’s state flag look so much like mexico’s?!” Any logical rebuttal to anything they say is just another excuse to fold another pointless thought into their conspiracy theories.
There’s also more than a little bit of inferiority complex shining through.
Many of them suspect that maybe they’re not really all that bright (quite rightly on this bit if we’re being honest) and that people might be laughing at them.
And of course like the adage goes, instead of shutting up, they open their mouths and prove their idiocy. Like being aggressively wrong and outraged is somehow better.
Alito claims he was only flying an upside-down flag in front of his house on 1/6 because a neighbor had a “Fuck Trump” sign in front of where kids wait for the school bus.
Schools were closed in January 2021 because of the pandemic and there were no school buses or children waiting for them.
Even if school had been in session, he thought kids would see the upside-down flag and it would negate the “Fuck Trump” sign in their eyes somehow??? With this sort of tortured reasoning, it’s a wonder he’s able to do his judging job properly.
It’s also why MAGA is so popular. It’s anti-intellectual and pro “common sense”, where “common sense” means bigotry, conspiracy theories and general gut feels. It’s a very appealing message to people who don’t want to learn or improve themselves in any way.
According to Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) there were “some members in the room who are drinking inside the hearing room.” Stansbury said the lawmakers who were drinking were not on the committee
And to nobody’s surprise, they finally got around to a party-line vote.
MJT? I don’t have that one on my Bingo card for that nitwit.
Anyway, way over on Xitter, the republicans/bigots (those are now synonyms, right?) are calling Crocket all the racist terms including trash, all the while ignoring their heroine’s stunt.
Supreme Court justices attend the State of the Union address, but never applaud. They are not supposed to display even a whiff of political partisanship. So a neighbor was displaying an anti-Trump flag and Alito felt it was appropriate for him to counter that message? Fuck you Justice Alito, that ain’t your damned job.
I’d like to see the rest of the Court grow a spine and censure him for it.
In 1581, a group of Italian Jesuit missionaries in Japan visited the court of Oda Nobunaga, the most powerful daimyo of the time, to get his permission to preach in his territory. Among their retinue was a black African slave about 26 years old, whose birth name and place of origin are lost to history. Nobunaga, who had never seen a black man before, instantly took a shine to him and was impressed by his strength and ability to speak Japanese, and insisted that the missionaries give him the slave in exchange for his blessing. They agreed, and Nobunaga not only freed the slave, but gave him the Japanese name Yasuke, a house, a salary, and a position as retainer and squire. Yasuke served Nobunaga until Nobunaga’s death the following year and fought alongside him in several battles, and historians have considered him to have been a samurai by the standards of the time.
The reason I’m bringing this up is because Ubisoft announced earlier this week that the latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which blends historical fiction with sci-fi and features historical figures as major characters, will be set in feudal Japan and feature Yasuke as a playable character, and the usual chudspects are raising a stink online about how Assassin’s Creed (which has literally had a DEI statement in the opening credits of every game since 2008) has “gone woke”.
Dang if there really was some mechanism in which SA could be accordingly taken to task for such a transparent, disgracefully partisan display, but I can see ony three justices taking any stock of this.
Opening an impeachment enquiry seems the least that should be done. Both Alito’s violations of common codes of judicial ethics (for example, his acceptance of gifts) and his violation of the Supreme Court tradition of maintaining an apolitical image, would be suitable lines of investigation.
