On the one hand, Andy Biggs is an idiot of the first order. He’s constantly trying to take the record for worst congressman currently serving.
On the other, in is less-than-effective career, he has managed to get ONE piece of legislation passed, and that was to rename a building. Even with President Musk and the orange turd in charge, there is little chance of this actually even getting out of committee.
Yes and no. Yes, in that just abolishing OSHA and letting states do what they want would turn back the clock to the days of Sinclair’s The Jungle.
But no in the sense that states already can and do handle their own workplace safety issues through their own state agencies if they choose to. I know because I work for one. The bill isn’t needed; if a state wants to take on the burden they can. It’s just that they have to at least match federal safety requirements in the process.
That’s the issue here, they don’t want safe workplaces. They want higher profits gained with the literal blood of exploited workers. Fuck these evil shitheads.
Yep. I refer you to page 13 of the Project 2025 text (emphasis added):
The Declaration of Independence famously asserted the belief of America’s
Founders that “all men are created equal” and endowed with God-given rights to
“Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” It’s the last—“the pursuit of Happi-
ness”—that is central to America’s heroic experiment in self-government.
When the Founders spoke of “pursuit of Happiness,” what they meant might
be understood today as in essence “pursuit of Blessedness.” That is, an individual
must be free to live as his Creator ordained—to flourish. Our Constitution grants > each of us the liberty to do not what we want, but what we ought.
In other words - you’re “free” to do what we insist you do.
People really should read Project 2025 for themselves.
I don’t know if this has been covered already, but the Trump administration had a problem with one of Harris’ answers. Trump says they ‘doctored’ the interview, CBS says they didn’t.
Even if we ignore that they’re accusing CBS of doing what Fox does and we ignore that this is a good example of Trump being a sore winner, ISTM this is likely to have some deeper ramifications WRT what the media reports. It seems like this is getting scarily close to ‘dear leader’ territory.
I know the article says CBS probably would’ve won if this ended up in court, maybe it’s a good thing it didn’t. If they lost in court, it would make it that much harder for other networks to resist similar requests.
