Turns out the inch-and-a-half was a very conservative estimate for rainfall. Still coming down in buckets and we passed that estimate hours ago. Flood warnings throughout the valley. The coast has high wind warnings of 70-80mph gusts.
Dicey, glad you are home safe and sound. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll see your share of snow before long…
FCM, good news for FCD, make sure he sticks to the PT regime.
quietly, that show (Babylon 5) was loaded with quotable lines…loved it. Hope the prescription works and the infection makes a satisfying thump when it hits the floor…
Went out for my Moanday shop-n-sammich and no problems, the roads were warm enough from last week’s heat wave that there was no covering on them (except for one bridge). Still only 30F so the snow remains, but I suspect it will be gone by tomorrow. So right now finishing lunch and deciding if I should run the dishwasher now or first thing tomorrow (probably go with tomorrow).
OK, onward. Everyone take care.
Morning everyone. It’s 65F and clear with no wind. I have a bowl of water on a table on the porch which the yard flock uses as a community hot tub. Yesterday I had to knock ice out of the bowl, this morning it was cold but not slushy. George is enjoying the cold, he’s spending a lot of time in the catio and comes in looking much bigger than I remember him being half an hour ago.
Those are very good words to hear after surgery, I hope things continue to be routine and that both of you recover from this quickly.
Uneventful is always a good word to hear when it comes to travels. There really is no place like home, is there?
I wanted to start my next project on New Years day but my threads haven’t arrived yet and all I had was the watercolors and the silver. Working silver blackwork without any reference points is a bit of a challenge but it’s getting done. Mom started her new project on New Years day as well, so go us!
Waiting for my ride to the airport. I’m envious of those of you with no snow. Despite the all-night deluge, we still have snow and ice, only now the ice is even slicker because there’s water on top of it. I basically ice-skated to take out the trash just now.
I hope my ride is on time. We have different attitudes toward travel and timeliness. I wanted to allow extra time, but she does not. So hopefully no delays en route.
Thinking of all my fellow travelers, literal and figurative, and wishing you safe and smooth journeys.
We had a cold front go through a couple days ago which brings a fairly short-lived phenomenon called Severe Clear. Bright sunny clear blue skies that seem to go on forever to the horizon. Now it’s just the usual gloomy and chilly January here. Good day for laundry, and contemplating things that cook in a crock pot. Mentally browsing the spice cabinet, and thinking of adding some chili powder, garlic, onion to some hamburger for an easy (OK, lazy!) chili.
This could not be more mundane or pointless. I ordered new tires today. They will be delivered to the tire installation place and they will be installed next Moanday. How boring is my life that I am excited about this??? 123 til retirement!!!1111!!!
I’m all happy because I got more colored thread in the mail. It’s nice to be so easily please ![]()
I finally remembered to take a pic of my last piece, so did that today.

I have NO idea how I managed to break flickr that badly, but there is a link to my latest closet piece.
I got the threads I ordered for my current project today which made me happy, but one of them was wrong. I wanted 502 and got 503. I was going to call the shop and ask the nice person to look at 502 and 503 and tell me how close they were but George walked on my phone (stay off my desk, you little jerkface!!!) and called Mom so I asked her instead. She says the 502 has a little more gray and 503 is a little more green, so I think I won’t bother calling the shop because everything will still match.
It is a cat’s solemn duty to assist humans in deskwork, bed making, and so on. He’s just doing his job (and he probably wants some of Mama’s attention, too). The only reason I didn’t have Allie’s help with some stuff I was doing earlier was that she’s in the headboard keeping tabs on DH, who’s still asleep.
No significant excitement over here, except for shared upper respiratory ailments. We’re pretty much hermits lately, so I’m at a loss as to where either of us would have caught something.
Wishing you smooth and safe journey

Happy Moanday, mumpers! We were up bright and early for a trip to Mt Charleston, played in some snow (trip driver had plastic sleds in the car, we behaved like kids!) and stopped at various viewpoints before a lunch stop at the hotel up the mountain.
Safe travels, all those who are travelling! We have appointments for our pre-flight LFTs tomorrow morning, if we had been going home a day later we wouldn’t need them as rumour hazzit our government is dropping the requirement for tests to come back to the UK.
Mooom good to hear that FCD sailed through surgery, I hope the weather plays fair too.
swampy belated birthday wishes to OYKW, hope he enjoyed his birthday meal, especially if there was a cheeky daiquiri involved!
I need to order some studded tires when we get back to the valley. I too am excited, (to not have exciting times driving.)
Glad that them as has traveled got back safely. Glad that them as is still traveling are having fun. (seems like traveling should have 2 'L’s.)
That’s all.
bumba, my dad uses the cow expression too. You just gave me a chuckle.
Glad that FCD came through the surgery OK Mooooooom. Good wishes on the PT and recovery.
When I walked Nelson and drove to irk today, there was ~3" of snow on the ground. There is still an inch or so in places. It’s supposed to get colder than a witch’s tit tonight, so frozen roads are definitely a possibility in the AM.
I made an appointment for Friday to have the car checked out. There were no issues during my commute today.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I decided to take the Jeep in for an oil change on my lunch break. (Working from home today.) It’s 14 miles to Ferndale, and 14 back. So it should have only taken an hour. Got there, and there were two cars in the bays and five more waiting. They guy told me it would be 45 minutes. I thought about coming back after work, but there was no guarantee there wouldn’t be a wait then as well. I waited. As I waited, the wind blew, it started raining, then it started hailing, and then it started snowing. My turn in the bay, they were out of 5w30. I knew that, but I (wrongly) guessed the ol’ Cherokee took 10w30. Nope. Had to get synthetic. But they did take $25 off.
On the way home there was a car off the side of the freeway, pointing the wrong way and almost completely rolled over. There was an ambulance there. About a mile up the freeway there was another car that slid off. This one was upright, but pointing the wrong way. I was in the left lane, so after I passed the last crash I moved right. I could feel the Jeep slipping a bit. (I was in 2WD.) I got home and texted Wifey to be careful.
Cross-posted from FB:
I came home from the hospital to get FCD’s charger and tablet, and I realized I couldn’t get up the driveway because of the pile of snow left by the plow. I parked on the side of the road and trudged up thru the snow (easily 8" of the evil white stuff) and got my shovel, and I started to clear a path to the road - just one shovel width wide. Then I attacked the piled up mess.
I saw a man in a plow truck at the corner and I asked if he could clear my drive, but he said he worked for the county and he wasn’t allowed to, but that he’d move as much of the pile at the end of the drive for me. I mumbled something about Steve’s knee replacement, thanked him for at least clearing that mess, and I ran back to the house to get the charger and tablet, then hopped in the car and took off.
And when I got home, my driveway was clear!! Granted, there’s a big-ass pile of snow right by the garage door, but I should be able to clear that in about half an hour of so. Bless that angel who saved me several hours of work! As soon as I finish my soup, I’m going back out there to clear enough so I can get FCD’s car parked. My car can get out - the big pile is on his side. I don’t care - I just wish I knew who the guy was! He’s my angel!!
And I’ve finished my soup, I found my boots plus a pair of mittens. Out to shovel!
Howdy Y’all! We et a celebratory N.O,L. at CB. No daiquiris were involved. Beyond that we have napped and slothed the day away. Any other need to feed to day has been via forage.
MOOOOOOM glad the surgery went OK, and yay for the snow clearin’ angel.
Dicey yay for safe travel home.
All you dealin’ with snow and ice, well, better thee than me. Also, be safe.
Hope Nellie has had safe travels today and is safely at her sis’s place.
Daughter has a snow day again tomorrow, so no Toby for me! I can finish laundry and do some other domestical crap, since visiting hours don’t start till 2. Maybe even sleep in?? yeah, right…
Mooom Those random guys with plows are often the best dudes around.
Flyboy Glad you made it back in the ice.
We’re sitting at 14 degrees here, and scheduled for lower later tonight. Not a fan.
The county replaced a culvert this past summer, and the guys doing it apparently did not drive over the re-done roadway after. It feels like the largest basketball player in the world is dribbling the car when you go over this thing, through a dip and around a bend. I’m really not looking forward to when it has ice on it.
Evening all. First dumbth of the year by me; Started backing out of the garage before the garage door was all the way up. So had to use a hammer and pliers to free up a wheel that had been jammed, which got the door all the way open, but now it will only close about halfway, then stop and go back up again. Will call the garage door people tomorrow morning and see if somebody can come out and fix it. On the other hand, the Sonic hamburger was good and the Pepsi/Chocolate Milkshake mix was splendid.
nellie, safe travels. We’d get along, I always arrive too early for my flight, but I belong to the ‘just in case’ team…
FCM, good on the dude for helping out, but don’t advertise it too loudly, or he might get in trouble with the bureaucrats who haven’t shoveled snow in decades…
flyboy (and the rest of you with snow on the road), y’all be careful.
boo fae, sledding is fun no matter what your age is. And good luck with the tests.
unknown, nice piece of work; glad the thread will work out.
OK, need to finish internettin’ and then back to readin’; got a couple of books in the mail today.
Dammit. Long post went poof. I will write it again in a bit.
Mooomm fingers crossed for FCD’s surgery.
Safe travels to all those who are traveling.
