NFL week 2: The Lion(s) (don't) sleep tonight(/ Sunday)(?)

someones spending several hours learning how to catch and hold on to the ball I would think :

Time for the Tiki Barber “high and tight” grip.

Lots of questions answered in Week 2. After one great game, Tua is now all fixed and the Dolphins are Super Bowl contenders. Danny Dimes is back and the Giants will win the NFC East. Kyler Murray is back and will win the MVP. Kyle Pitts is garbage who got lucky last year. Nathaniel Hackett should be fired after 2 games. Not sure why we’ll play the rest of the season, but I guess we gotta.

Not sure I saw this upthread, but Trey Lance is out for the season; he will be having surgery on his broken ankle.

The Browns had their game won, Jets had no timeouts. But then after going up by 13:

  • Missed the PAT
  • Only had 4 DBs and not the 5 or 6 you would expect, to ensure no long bombs.
  • Promptly give up a long bomb as the corner stopped running and the safety was too late reacting.
  • Allow the Jets to recover the onside kick.
  • Fail to tackle anybody in bounds.
  • Allow the game winning reception with 20 seconds to go.

It was the blown coverage on the 1st TD which was truly puzzling. The only way the Jets come back even spotting them the onside kick is allowing them to score quickly. The defensive coordinator truly fucked up.

Early returns indicate Wentz might not have been the problem.

Players are talking about the lack of aggressiveness in the offensive game plan. Also, Mitch Trubisky afraid to take an occasional shot when there’s a roaming free safety is something I’m sure defensive coordinators across the AFC will prick up their ears at.

I’m reminded of this post from the Week 1 thread.

Nobody does optimism better than a homer trying to find that silver lining. At least the Steelers have their first round QB to look forward to. Hopefully they don’t mess up and try to trot him out too early.

One of my high school friends is a Steelers fan and he’s been smoking the same hopium. I’ve seen the Trubisky show, it doesn’t end well.

So wait, there are two Monday night games tonight: Titans at Bills at 7pm Eastern on ESPN, then Vikings at Eagles at 9 on ABC.

That’s weird. It kind of seems like Disney is cannibalizing itself by putting overlapping games on two different properties.

They did MNF double-headers a couple of times in the past (typically in Week 1 of the season), but IIRC, they kept them from overlapping, which meant that the first game started pretty early in the evening (late afternoon on the west coast), and the second came wound up being quite late. I’m not sure if this set-up is any better, but their ratings will tell the tale.

Actually it looks like they kickoffs may be more like 7:15 and 8:15.

The Steelers certainly gifted this win to the Patriots, who did look good on defense, but remain completely lackluster and uninspiring on offense.

Is there a third channel with each of the Manning brothers watching one of the games and talking to each other?

I just found out about this, it will happen 3 times this year. Monday Night Football is trying to not get stuck with clunker games so by having two, including one over the air, they’re hoping to get some of their audience back.

Sunday night Game of the Week and the move to cable killed Monday night football. The ability to flex games really helps on Sunday nights

7:15 on ESPN and 8:30 on ABC, according to nfl.com.

Yes, ESPN2 has the brothers Manning commenting on the earlier game, Titans vs Bills.

You sure about this? Do you know the weeks that this will happen?

I just glanced through the schedule and I don’t see any other doubleheaders on MNF.

I want them each watching a different game and occasionally telling each other what’s happening in their game.

The doubleheader MNF only happens once this season.

There will be 3 next season but which weeks have not been decided.

Tonight’s games are a bit of experiment on whether or not to overlap them or have them back to back next year. The other change this year was having the doubleheader MNF in Week 2 rather than Week 1 as it has been the last several seasons. That was to provide more focus on the new booth (with Buck and Aikman) for the opening weekend of the season. Also, it was Russell Wilson returning to face Seattle, and ESPN was happy to air that on its own as a ratings goldmine.

If they do overlap, I’d prefer they not give updates on the second game, which I may be recording for viewing later.
