Evening all. Soccer has been coached, went till almost 7pm and decided to skip eating out and came home for some cheesy bread and Pepsi (don’t judge…). Up early tomorrow as I referee at 8:30am and coach at 9:45 and 11:30am, so pretty full day. Need to work out my lineups so all the boys are playing the max time allowed and hopefully in positions where they can help us win. We’ll see.

Experts say the minimum wait time is at least two margaritas.
You’d better listen to her, bright tree, she’s in pre-med (bonus points if you recognize the quote).
OK, need to finish up on the internets and be thinking about the soccer tomorrow. Setting the alarm for 7am.
I think you maybe mean a cardiac CT scan? Contrast gunk and such? I have one of those scheduled for a week from Tuesday. On one hand, nice to know I’m not apparently in imminent danger of heart attack, etc. OTOH, would be nice to know what the hell IS going on.
Did take advantage of medical driving clearance to shop for a new laptop. Took three stores to find one that had a computer I liked in stock (not sure how much longer my now-senior laptop is going to hold out). Yay for Costco on that one!
If anyone near Sacramento hears Atomic and/or Cluster F-bombs, sorry about that. Moving into the new computer (which has Windows 11, which I’ve never handled before) and getting everything set up to my liking will probably involve about as much cursing as car or home repair. (For those few in here with refined sensibilities about language, both links contain much profanity.)
One amusing note so far: when I typed “download Chrome” into Edge, the first thing that came up was a blurb for Edge headed “There’s no need to download a new web browser”. Yes, actually, there is. I like Chrome MUCH better than I do Edge, TYVM. Then when I clicked the link to go to Google, something came up claiming that Edge is at least as good “with the trust of Microsoft”. (snicker) “The trust of Microsoft” is a major reason I’m downloading another browser, guys.
One important part of the move between computers is accomplished. I’m posting from the new one now. Chrome does make life a lot easier that it used to on that front. Moving Thunderbird is going to be a PITA.
All y’all Penzeys people, do you have trouble with clumping? My Sunny Spain is now a little block that I have to scrape off any in order to use. Seems a bunch of the sort of salt replacement ones do that.
WHY does M$ insist on “fixing” things that worked fine? I hate hate hate the new Win11 Start menu and right-click menu. Found a system tweaker that solved the right-click menu, now downloading another piece of software to get the Start menu to behave reasonably.
Then I get to start moving data files, reinstalling apps, etc.
actually, i run all my Microsoft stuff like msn and bing through chrome and both win 11 and google hates it but chrome is more stable and more features but I like bing’s searches better
I dislike Bing and prefer to do things like go to news sites via browser. Chrome is my default, but I really should get Brave onto this machine as a backup.
Currently waiting for the old computer to finish copying documents, downloads, and photos to a USB drive for transfer to the much faster new computer. It’s going to be an hour or two to make any significant progress here.
Both FCD and I “went to bed” before 9 last night. We had to get away from the multi-repeated conversations between his parents. I figured out that MIL is part of the problem. She brings up stuff or over-explains and it thoroughly confuses FIL.
Like on the road the other day, she suddenly asked him if he knew where his SS card was, WTF?? That set FIL to sorting thru his wallet, which set him to counting his cash 13 times! And MIL didn’t know why they needed his card, just that they’d been looking for it a few weeks ago.
Or she asks him to make choices that seem to stress him - like “What do you want to drink?” at McD’s. I broke in and asked “Coke, Sprite, or orange?” He said orange and that was that. But how do I tell MIL to keep it simple? She seems to think long explanations penetrate his dementia…
I feel sorry for both of them but I’m so glad we’re leaving in less than 24 hours. And FCD has been dealing with this for almost a month…
Good morning everyone. I got behind on all the MMP-doings and will have to punt with: Good thoughts for Nellie on the contacts, and sympathies for FCD on dealing with contrarian oldsters. I mean more oldster than us, anyway. Also, for Nettie; I wore a heart monitor for a month as the various -ologists tried to find the source of dizziness and other chest-fluttery events. The final conclusion was “We dunno”, but maybe some byproduct of a hiatal hernia, and something something Vagus nerve. So I’m just learning to deal with it for right now. Not encouraging, but at east they proved it “isn’t vascular” (again, their words).
On the second cuppa coffee, and it’s 77F outside, with 95 for the high today.
The procedure for our dog didn’t go well, as it turned out he had a strong allergic reaction to the anesthesia. Instead of 1 hour it ended up being 8 hours of treatment and observation. We didn’t get him back until late in the evening and spent the night with a restless, crying dog. He never does this, so we know he was in misery. The good news is he’s all better and seems to be completely recovered and is hassling me for more treats this morning. Yay!
For the mundane, I scheduled the haulout and pressure wash of the boat, and will take the RV there for a week to both supervise then enjoy some water time. I’m taking my sextant in hopes of continuing learning on that instrument. I’m trying to reproduce the way the old-timers did, with only paper charts and almanac. Also taking the drone and inflatable to explore some coves n such and maybe a bit of fishing.
Spent part of yesterday getting new tires on one of the cars, and refilling the lawn-equipment gas tanks (I’d let them all get empty). Today is clearing some brush from the roof (winds) and various trip preps (charging RV battery, checking tires, etc.).
Up early, starting to get dressed for my 8:30am referee job, followed by coaching 2 games. Not yet fully conscious, so have read all and absorbed little. But have a good Sattiday all.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall watch some tackleball and most likely spend some quality time at the cee-mint pond bein’ as the weather is not too shabby. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slawdawgs. Fartfest to follow.
Nettie the procedure I had was a heart catherization. I just could not think of the name yestiddy. I was given liquid valium which I throroughly enjoyed. I remember askin’ for some to go and was told no.
MOOOOOOM just remember soon you will escape.
MetalMouse have fun refereein’ and coachin’ today. Try not to overdo it.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Well, I’m basically moved into the new computer, after a few file transfer hiccups. Time to shut down the problem machine and get it out of the way. Also gotta get DH to provide me the sign-in for the premium version of MalwareBytes.
It’s about 47 degrees with an expected high of 65 and cloudy skies. I think it’s going to warm up starting Monday so we’ll see highs heading back to the upper 70s with sunnier skies.
I’m glad you got your computer set up, nettie. I too use Chrome and can’t stand Edge. There’s nothing edgy or good about it.
Metal Mouse, have fun with the reffing and coaching today.
FCM, I hope today flies by and you can get on the road as early as possible tomorrow.
I’m sorry about the vet troubles, pullin. I’m glad he seems to be back to normal today. These last couple of years have seen a number of vet trips for Polar, some of them pretty scary. I know it’s stressful and worrisome when things are not going well.
I am going to have a little more coffee, tidy the kitchen, and run the vacuum cleaner around the great room one more time. After that, I’ll shower and head to the store to get a couple of roasting chickens and some other ingredients for this evening’s dinner. I may or may not make a white cake from scratch for the hubby. His favorite cake is white cake with white frosting. Not my cup of tea, but it’s his birthday celebration. Or, I just may opt to get smaller size “cakes” from the bakery. We don’t eat a whole cake, and the kids won’t take any home, so it may be simpler to just get some single-serve cakes.
That’s about all that’s going on here. I hope you all have a sensational Saturday.
