OK, our excitement - I got to ride in an ambulance… Tobias had a febrile seizure - it lasted about a minute but it totally freaked us out so FCD called 911. By the time they got her, he was just crying and staring longingly at his bottle, but the operator told us not to give him anything to eat or drink. It was at least an hour before the poor thing finally got a bottle.
His temp had gone up to around 103°. I tried putting him in the bath, but he wasn’t interested, and as he slept, I put a cool cloth on his head, but it wasn’t enough. And I didn’t totally trust the thermometer because 3 successive readings were 101, 95, 103. And, alas, I didn’t have any baby fever reducer. (I do now.)
As we were headed to the ER, the EMT put cold packs around him, plus checked his blood glucose level and some other stuff - I was too busy trying to calm the poor baby. By the time we got to the ER, his numbers were looking lots better. Daughter and SIL were there - they were a mess, as you might expect. I stayed to hear what the Dr’s initial exam was - he said these sorts of seizures are fairly common and rarely dangerous. When I left, Tobias had gotten a second dose of tylenol and he was drinking formula.
They did a nasal swab to try to figure out why he had a fever - daughter thinks it might be what’s been going thru her school. The doc said because the baby is so young, his immune system has to fight harder against the bad stuff, and that could be why he had a fever while daughter and Roxy didn’t. But neither the doctor nor the nurse felt like there would be any lasting effects.
I just heard from my daughter - his temp is down to 100, he drank 4oz of formula, and he’s tired and resting. So once the doc comes back, they should be released.
I just finished eating - finally! I was starving and I’m still a tad shaky. So, how was your day…
Howdy Y’all! I saw the doc and the vampire and everything is good, so I am pleased to report that I am still alive. However, I was there so freakin’ long, I was starvin’ when I left there at eleven-fifteen. I called OYKW and told him I was stoppin’ by the good Mexican place near the doc’s office, not our usual place, but still a good one, to get a buncha tacos. This made him happy. So I went and ordered tacos and the place had 'em ready super fast which is always a yay for me. Thus, our main feed of the day was tacos (after all it IS Taco Tuesday), so the BLTs will be for tomorrow.
Taters yay for the good performance review and the awards/bonuses! Shall we keep appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the manager gig?
VanGo let us hope that Brown shows up tomorrow.
Cookie apple pie is always a good thing.
WetOne looks like you got this retirement thang figured out.
Nellie what Boo said about Walgreens and the passport photo. I’ve never gotten a passport but everyone I know who has and has used Walgreens has been happy.
MOOOOOM Glad the Tobester is OK, but dayumm what a day for you! How’d the apartment showin’ go?
Apparently, FIL is concerned about where his shop would go… MIL hated one floorplan, like another. I haven’t had a lot of time to talk with FCD about it, but he’s exhausted from dealing with them. He’ll be so glad to deposit them back in Ocala.
Never a dull moment at the FC house, is there? Glad the Tobester seems to be OK, but that ain’t no fun for anybody to go through. Scary for you, him, and his parents - and the last thing you need right now.
Sounds like the apartment visit wasn’t a total bust, but also like there’s a bit more convincing still to be done…
well, we’ve had some experience with those seizures when youngest nephew had them every time he was sick until he was like 4 …after the 2nd er visit they said just put him in a cool shower then wait about 45 minutes …if he was still having problems then bring him in
but he grew out of them after a few heart attacks…
So glad Tobias is OK! There’s nothing more stressful than a tiny tot needing an ambulance. Been there, only they wouldn’t let me ride along because they thought they might need to do a tracheotomy en route (trauma team included a doc). I’ve never seen a febrile seizure, but it sounds very scary! I hope his first one was his last one.
We leave here early on Firday, we’ll stay down there on Sat, and drive back home on Sunday. We’ve got an appointment with a realtor on Saturday to look at their house.
I swear, just listening to the two of them talk about anything is exhausting. Both are losing their hearing, FIL’s hearing aids are old and not very good, MIL doesn’t listen, FIL goes off on weird tangents, and there’s a lot of “Huh?” “What?” “What did you say?” C’mon Sunday!!
The doc saw the babby when he was jabbering and such. They’re just waiting for the test results, and then they should be discharged. Daughter said she’s probably going to stay home with him tomorrow. I think I may sleep with Mel tonight.
Evening all. Soccer has been coached and Mac-n-Cheese ingested, so all that’s left is a little readin’ and internettin’ until bedtime. Due to be shot tomorrow (flu and COVID) at 1000, figured I’ve reminded myself enough to be sure to make it. Mailed two bills and am still awaiting the property tax bill…Iknow how much it will be, having visited the State’s website, but need the paperwork to git’er done. Property value is nearly twice what I paid for the house and lot 26 years ago.
FCM, YIKES!! Glad Toby and all are doing OK, but that had to be frightening. And MIL/FIL will change their minds several times in the days ahead, so be patient.
VanGo, nice work, hope the painter does them justice.
Nellie, glad your Passport app is done…now comes the waiting, I presume you didn’t pay for expedited service, so hope your Italy visit isn’t until next Spring…
OK, need to soak the Mac-n-Cheese bowl (that stuff sticks like tar to the sides) and continue on into the night. All y’all take care.
Glad Toby’s OK, and I hope his grownups recover quickly from the scare.
Speaking of scares, could have done without the one just now. Sitting on the couch, feet up on the ottoman, the usual orange lap velcro. Got VERY light-headed, tinnitus, dimming vision (symptoms felt like what happened right before I passed out at the doctor’s office last month). I had noticed feeling quite weak and tired earlier in the day, which also happened a bit before the last such event.
I did manage to stay conscious. Blood sugar and blood pressure were fine (I checked). No, I will NOT be driving until I’ve gotten medical clearance to do so. Two episodes like this in under four weeks is unprecedented for me, and I totally recognize the safety risks to others if this happens while I’m behind the wheel, so I won’t be doing that.
Yes, I plan to advise my doctor about this incident.
I went to the gym and burned off some frustration with medical stuff–long and boring, so I’ll spare you. Old Flame called to once again try to convince me to move closer to him. Not gonna happen.
Right on both counts. We’re looking at late April/early May.
VanGo, forgot to say before that those doors are gorgeous and so impressive! Do you build beautiful stuff like that for yourself, or is this like the cobbler’s shoes?
sunny, glad the procedure went OK. It hardly seems fair to have to go through that AND plan dinner. In Mumperville, we’d take turns prepping dinner for each other on such occasions, or for days like FCM had. On second thought, FCM would probably prefer we have her in-laws over to get them out of the house for a bit.
nettie, I know you’re on top of this, but that doesn’t stop me from worrying. I’m keeping fingers crossed. We need you around here.
FCM, my mother has told me that when I say she needs to move to a facility, she will. I’ve told her that I appreciate the sweet thought and will do so even if that time comes, since she’ll protest.
Thanks again for the encouraging words, they really help. I go in Sunday night at 9pm to start my titration sleep study. This time I know to bring my own shampoo and shampoo twice~I found gooey clumps of stuff in my hair even though I showered and shampooed thoroughly before leaving the last time. The one soap does all-body wash, shampoo and conditioner-didn’t do any of those things well and would not lather for beans. So my own girly shampoo and some lovely smelling (and sudsing) body wash.
Was a poor kid who went to college on a scholarship so no $ or need for travel requiring a passport. Studied in Boston after graduation and getting married and went to Canada frequently but that only required a drivers license then. Hopped into Mexico, again with just a drivers license. By the time passports were necessary I was deep into raising three kids and travel was out of reach. Now that the kids are grown I have the wish to travel but no money. It is on my bucket list, so I might still do it. We’ll see.
I’m your patient’s age. I get it. My social security is marginal (see above about spending 20 of my best earning years at home raising kids). Just the increase in food makes me want to scream. Fresh produce is all but out of reach. Utilities make heating the house a scary (and potentially chilly) thought this upcoming winter. I was squeaking by by being careful. Now, a lot of doing without is staring us in the face. I get it. |
I so glad he is ok too. I was lucky that none of my kids had that happen but it is terrifying to see.
You and me both, sweetie. You and me both.
Sign me up for Mumperville! I’ll take on the in-laws for the day. I used to do it for a living. Takes a village. I’m good at getting baby Tylenol into fussing babies too. Ve night nurses have our vays.
I am very happy it turned out to be “something little kids do”. Back when I was his age, I scared the pants off my parents doing the same thing. Mom says there really wasn’t any rhyme or rhythm to them and they did pay doctors a lot of money to find out what was going on. They stopped after about a year.
And…for FIL? Rent a storage unit close to the apartment and move his stuff there. Let him see his stuff, show him that there is power and he can come and work on projects whenever he wants. Lacking a car, he won’t be able to just walk out back and start playing with power tools, it will take some planning, but you don’t need to bring that up.
Those are VERY nice! Now I wants some!!!
At our age, this is always a good thing to know
Again, very good to know! Do you have to lay around on your back for a time, or are you able to move around?
I was wondering about that too.
And we are all tired of you not being well and DEMAND you recover post haste!!!
(did it work?)
Seriously, I am so glad you are taking care of yourself and seeking medical advice as needed. This is some scary shit.
