OK, I'll Start The MMP

In my experience, their gig-worker deliveries don’t always bother with the “go to the right address part” - twice the system thoughtfully sent me photos of my stuff tucked into someone else’s screen door.

MOVIE??? Damned autocorrect, and I missed it. It was COVID, and yes, the test was painful. He says his nose still burns, and it was bleeding. ugh.

BTW, we’re home. I’m about to throw some unders into the wash. Then I need to figure out what I’m going to do for supper. But for a bit, I just need to wind down - we were on the road for more than 4 hours and I’m exhausted.

perk

Bread run? Did you ever get your bread machine, Beck? I’ve used mine on the dough setting and made hamburger buns! I don’t think we’ll be buying hamburger buns any more!

Yesyerday, I made ENGLISH MUFFINS! I used the dough settings, freeformed the muffins, and allowed them to rise while parked on a cookie sheet I had sprinkled with cormeal. Then I “baked” them in a skillet on top of the stove, about 5 minutes each side. Not perfect, but you can tell what they are, and they tasted wooonnnnnnderful! I will get better with practice

There was a food give away on my little island today. I didn’t go because I feel there are more needy people than us but my neighbor went and got for us and them. I now own 20 pounds of frozen Waffle House bacon, a ham, lots of greens, orange juice, yogurt and three boxes of assorted snacks. I will use the stuff. I didn’t ask her to get it for us and wish she hadn’t but oh well.

That is the excitement for the day thus far. Now I believe it is nap time.

Hello. You makea de bad joke. Prepare to die.

Water bill has been paid and lawn is mowed. Will take a nice long hot bath here in a little bit, then maybe nappage. Dinner will be a big bowl O’Sallit and I need to order up my dinner for tomorrow.

Butters, if you don’t need that 20lbs of bacon…<grin>

Sari, opening everything but the dog park doesn’t make sense. Maybe the guy with the keys was just late.

Take care all.

No, I called the park people and they said they will not open the dog parks until the governor specifically says dog parks. She told me to call back next week, however somebody posted on fb that the governor says dog parks can open June 6.

~VOW, the bread machine is here. Looking all prepared to bestow yeast-y goodness on us.
So far we’ve only had boxed bread machine mixes and they were ‘meh’ to the max.
We can’t find any yeast. I was able to get bread flour.
I’ve ordered yeast but it’s back-ordered. DIL looks in all the places she goes.

Oh, I’ve been meaning to tell you the ‘Wondra’ flour is the BEST! I love it. Perfect gravy everytime.
Mr.Wrekker is fascinated with it. When he started hunting and fishing on his own he had to learn to cook alittle. I taught him my ‘roux’ method of gravy making. Now he insists he’s got to have ‘Wondra’ in his kit from now on.

As I write this, I’m listening to the loud thumps, bangs, whoops, and exclamations of the twenty-somethings moving in upstairs and across the hall. I have a feeling they’re not going to be the Quiet Building types. At least I don’t share a wall, floor, or ceiling with them.

Ugh. I have a difficult phone call to make later on. You remember that friend I called last weekend? The one who’s grieving hard for her late husband? Let’s call her Esme. Well, another friend of mine, one who doesn’t know Esme well, texted her to get some needed info. Esme told HER that not only is she grieving, but she got scammed and has lost everything. She has not called the police. She brushed off my friend’s follow-up texts and is now at work. Mutual friend says it’s on me, since I’m the only friend Esme has now. All I know is she’s lost everything and has not contacted police. Clearly Esme didn’t want me to know–I’m sure she’s embarrassed–yet clearly she needs help.

VOW, the English muffins sound delish! Good on you, you adventurous chef, you!

Moooom, , I knew you meant COVID but was amused by the idea of a nasal screen test. Hope everything is smooth sailing from here through the 12th.

swampy, I haven’t had a noogie since I was a kid. I feel loved.

flyboy, I rely on my phone for photos, but right now I wish I had a real camera, as I can’t seem to adjust the lighting, and the flash isn’t working, so every photo looks like it was taken at dusk.

Amazon says they can deliver this in 7-10 days: SAF Instant Yeast

I have had really good results with it, and a pound of this will keep you making bread for quite some time

The COVID test place was interesting - set up in the parking lot of the Pimlico race track. It was controlled by National Guard - when you first drove in, they asked if you had an appointment. If not, you had to leave. If so, you drove up to the next station with instructions to leave your window closed and hold your ID up to your window.

The soldier there radioed ahead to verify that you did, in fact, have an appointment and to find out which station you needed to drive thru. Windows closed the whole time. Once you were at the head of the line, you pulled up and a soldier pointed to a phone number that you had to call. Dunno what they’d do if you didn’t have a cell.

He verified ID again, let the crew know who was next, and directed you to the testers. At that point, you opened your window, the testers gave you a note for your boss and some general instructions, then they jammed a swab deep into your sinuses. Poor **FCD **- he ended up with a bloody nose. Then he verified that the info would get to the hospital in time and they said his was marked as expedited. Oh, and they gave him a digital thermometer. And we left.

I hope I don’t need to get tested. ick. He’s still hurting.

Supper was good. Dishes are done. Chillage shall ensue.

WooHOO! Another Wondra convert

When we lived in Germany, our next-door neighbor came over to beg some flour. He was fixing dinner, and when he got to the gravy part, it was a big uh-oh! Sgt VOW handed him the flour canister, said, “Take what you need, bring it back.”

The guy wasn’t even gone long enough to get his front door open. He told Sgt VOW, “This isn’t flour, this is some kind of meal…”

I looked over Sgt VOW’s shoulder at the neighbor, smiled real big, and said, “Go back and use it. It will make the best gravy you’ve ever had!”

He returned the canister later, and he was speechless. Completely speechless.

nelliebly, your friend Esme may be embarrassed to tell you, but it would be more than embarrassment that keeps her from filing a police report. To do the report, she would have to explain her circumstances and relive her grief all over again.

If it is at all possible, can you go with her to file the report. Blood-sucking pond scum who prey upon the grieving deserve to be drawn and quartered, and the bloody dirt underneath their body parts set on fire. Since that isn’t possible, at least get them prosecuted.

And then pull out their tongues with red-hot bolt cutters.
~VOW

FCM, the intra-nasal poke is horrible. But FCD should be painfree by tomorrow (or I was, I, too got a bloody nose from it).
Hippie, I have an order for yeast from Amazon, it won’t come. I keep getting the ‘your order is delayed’ message. I’m not sure it’s that brand. I’ll try and order that, and see What happens. And cancel my other order. Thx.

Nellie, your poor friend. I’ll keep her in my thoughts and you as well. That’s a hard call to make. Good vibes!!

nellie, living by myself and enjoying cooking when there’s time to do it right, I’ve become pretty good at planned leftovers. Usually, I cook one really good meal on the weekend, eat one portion after making it, portion it out for the fridge/freezer, pull three or four boxes from the freezer and put all but one of the remaining portions in. If the side vegetation is fresh stuff, I’ll eat that on the side for the rest of the week. If not, it goes with the entrée.

gotti, I always check the name and apartment number on packages before opening them. If it’s not me, I take the package to the correct apartment. Neighbors have done the same for me.

None of the delivery folks bother knocking where I live, unless a signature is required. However, if I’m home, I know it from my four legged security system. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s cold here for May. It’s supposed to get down to freezing tonight, so I’m covering my plants. I’ve been ouchy for the last two days with this weird weather. We got hit with derecho winds Sunday evening and low wake winds Monday, so the pressure systems have made my back, hips, knees and ankles stiffen up. I know, I know, I’m an old lady. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay healthy y’all!

So I did laundry today. Gordie decided to “help” by flopping down in the pile mid-sort.:smack: But at least the whites are done.

When I lived in the Hood, the $9 box cutter required a signature, but they would leave the $300 laptop on the front porch, in front of 10,000 comuters.
And I have cooking portions down to a science. No leftovers, unless I want to use them for the next day.

Butters, Waffle House food? Don’t forget to punch someone during breakfast.

nellie, that’s awful about your friend. I’d do what VOW said.

Grocery foraging on the way home. Interesting how different stores have different situations.

Winco: baking supplies in decent shape, limited selection of ramen flavors on reasonably full shelves, mostly beef and chicken (DH wanted shrimp). No Carnation Light Start at all (this goes into DH’s protein shakes and I consider it a decent breakfast for someone whose stomach does not approve solid input too early).

Walmart: baking supplies devastated (but I did land a couple of boxes of sugar-free brownie mix for my pet diabetic), sparser shelves of ramen but did get the shrimp DH wanted (nabbed a 12pk) and four boxes of the Carnation Light Start (this might hold us for two weeks, but I’m not sure about that).

Foodsco: baking supplies OK-ish (little on the light side), ramen section devastated. Limited store-brand soda on the shelves, but they did have diet cola for DH (I’m still working on the regular the last Instacart idiot gave us instead of the specified diet), and I landed four boxes of their diet root beer, which we both like. This store’s our best bet for store-brand soda between taste, price, and not going flat as fast as Sam’s does. Didn’t think to check Carnation.

I didn’t even check paper goods or cleaning supplies. Didn’t need any paper stuff, and I know disinfectant cleaners are hopeless after the store’s been open for more than an hour. Feeling some urge toward laying in more Princess supplies (I have at least two months of canned and dry food for her, and about that much litter), but that’ll keep a week or two. Did pick up some minor items, such as some seasoning mixes that looked good and some chocolate cake donuts from Walmart’s “we made too much” rack, and some salad DH wanted.

Oh, mymymymy. I talked to Esme. She says an elderly cousin talked her into trying to get this federal “grant money” of $200k through these middlemen. You know: “We do all the work FOR you!” And this money is available to ANYONE who lives in the US! Isn’t that amazing? So first she sent them $1000, then another $1,000, and now she’s out over $30k, her life savings. And she was convinced if she could only come up with the additional $3500 they asked for, she could still get the $200k! She said she called her cousin, who said she did have to pay $30k but got the money. I’ve never heard of this cousin before, so maybe the “cousin” is really just an acquaintance.

I think I convinced Esme not to send any more money to these scum. I have not yet convinced her to contact law enforcement. I’ll keep working on that.

VOW, Esme lives 1,000 miles from me, back where I used to live, so unfortunately, I can only help long distance. But I’ll definitely keep doing that.

Between my sister’s situation and Esme’s, I’m tapped out for the day. I didn’t get much done on my list for today, but people are more important than list items, right?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 49 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. TWPTB say we have a fifty percent chance of rain tonight. We shall see. Today we shall accomplish mowage. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. Sloth is also on the agenda.

{{{Nellie}}} I hope Esme does decide to file a report and won’t send anymore money. I’m with VOW on what should happen to that scum.

Butters, doggio gave some sound advice on the WH food. Also, remember it’s best eaten drunk at three a.m.

I had heard the COVID test was ick and now I have confirmation. ICK!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

I also agree with VOW. ** Nellie,** I am so sorry your friend has been taken in by these criminals. They need to be found and prosecuted. (I would be more inclined toa less polite approach, but that is just the Leavenworth street boy that lurks beneath my surface)
