Morning all. Only getting to 59F today, but rain has visited already and more is on the way. Mowing the lawn yesterday looks like a smart move.
nellie, I feel for your friend, the blood-suckers out there tend to prey on older and oftentimes grieving people who are most vulnerable, I endorse most of the punitive ideas above and could come up with a few of my own, but I fear greatly the money is probably gone forever. Esme should still report it, maybe someone else can be prevented from having the same experience.
FCM, fascinating story of the COVID test site…had no idea it was that controlled and complex. Since I don’t have a cell phone, I wonder what they would do with me. Being I’m 67 and overweight, they’d probably test me if I asked, but I have no symptoms and feel ok, so not yet. Hope FCD’s nose is feeling better.
Sari, such is life but it doesn’t make much sense to me. From what you describe the dog park is a big place and people can distance without too much trouble.
Enjoy Baking and Flouring!
I got my face masks (100ea, disposables) that I ordered a month ago…guess they finally snuck into country and the Postal service moved them. Now all I need is an excuse to go out…
FCD’s nose is better this morning, so yay for that. Critters have been tended to and we’ve all breakfasted, including RoxStar. I’ve got a load of jeans in the washer, and I may have 2 more loads to do today.
I’m doing my best to keep my imagination in check, trying not to think “What if” about the impending surgery and rehab. Being male, over 60, overweight, and blood type A kinda puts my sweetie square in the sights of the plague. I need to trust the hospital… but I still worry. Plus the whole business of poking around his spine.
Rain is promised later today and overnight - rah. Plus temps in the 30s tonight, dammit. May sucks!!!
Not sure what my plans are today beyond laundry. I should start gathering the stuff that…
*
****** interrupted to take my car to the shop - I forgot!!! *********
… will go to my Mom’s on Moanday. On Sunday, I’ll dig up a couple of iris in a color that Mom doesn’t have, and I’ll load some empty pots into the car so I can get some hosta from her.
For now, just hoping the car repair won’t be too $$$$. Dammit.
**MetalMouse **- **FCD ** just got a pack of masks he ordered eons ago - the reusable type with replaceable filters. I want to rinse them or air them out - they’ve got a fresh-out-of-the-package odor that I just don’t like.
I’m glad I didn’t place the order that I was considering earlier this week - I had no idea he’d bought these.
And my car guy just called - valve seal leak, so not an obscenely expensive repair. WHEW! They’ll do the oil change while they’ve got it, and it should be under $300. WHEW!
Afternoon all. I properly overslept this morning, until almost 11, but oh well, it’s actually a public holiday here, so that’s allowed, even if the only difference is that more of the shops are shut.
I did make some sourdough bread (from an overnight rise in the fridge), so I feel like I’ve done something productive at least. I seem to be getting better at making the bread, but worse at not eating half the loaf before it’s even cooled down.
I should do some proper defilthifying of the place today, really, but I have a case of the dontwannas, and I think I may just call today a proper holiday, and do a lot of not much. Happy (checks) firday all!
We wanted Chinese food for dinner last night. There’s the Only Chinese Restaurant In Town, where we would order food about once a month. We haven’t been eating out during the shut-down, but I decided to see if they’re offering meals for take-out. When I went to their website, I was greeted with this message [line breaks redacted]:
We’ve had to
CLOSED BUSINESS
Due to our landlord not renewing our lease
we’ve enjoyed serving you over the past 8 years. Hopefully we’ll find a new place to serving you again very soon
Stay safe
For the only game in town, they were pretty good. I loved their wonton soup. Mrs. L.A. liked their crispy fried beef, and I liked the chicken & broccoli. Without knowing what I was going, I made crispy fried beef a month or so ago. It turned out well, but I didn’t have any kung pao chiles. OK, there’s another ‘teriyaki’ place about two-thirds of a mile down the beach that has Chinese dishes. And fish & chips, and burgers. It’s… ‘OK’. But it takes them half an hour to put some chowder in a container. If you order a meal ahead, they say it takes 45 minutes; then when you go to pick it up, they say it will take another 15 minutes. They’re overpriced for what they offer. And their crispy kung pao chicken is not especially great. sigh
.
We went to get take-out from the (one) Thai place in Blaine.
It’s a rainy 48 degrees, much nicer than the 32 degrees that was predicted.
Lily came by for a play date this morning, so the pups are tired and happy.
Echo and Lily are starting to have some issues with each other, we had to pull them apart a few times until Echo calmed down. My little girl has a temper.
They always kiss (literally) and make up, so they do like each other.
I overslept this morning because my phone died and the alarm didn’t go off. That is worrisome as I had 97% percent battery life when I went to bed.
I charged it this morning and the battery has dropped from 100% to 90% in just over an hour and I haven’t been using the phone.
I thought about taking the morning off irk, I have so much to do around here.
I have decisions to make, too, and I hate making decisions.
The front yard needs mulching. Every year I put down cardboard and several inches of mulch. Every year the weeds come back in full force. I don’t know what the weed is but it is everywhere. So this year I am thinking to get rock instead of mulch. It worked out pretty well beside the house and I like the way it looks. It costs more but in the long run it would be cheaper and easier. My son said the rock is easier to work with than mulch. I’m just leery of putting it out front where kids could get it and throw it around, but it’ll be up close to the house and far enough from the sidewalk I think. I have four bags left over from last year, so it’d be nice if I could get the same kind.
Just got our mail in ballots. Since we are boith registered Independents we can only vote for the mayor and city council. Since I don’t recognize any of the names, other than that the current mayor is running for city council, I’m going to have to do some research.
Not today though, too much other stuff to do.
Afternoon, mumpers! it is a public holiday here so no proper work for me, although I was up before 9am, critters fed, sat at my desk with the rest of my perishing project to finish. It has to be handed in on Tuesday so I really did have to get on with it. We are supposed to have been allowed three days away from work to complete it. The first day was immediately after the last campus-based training session (when campus was still open). I wasn’t able to have that day at home to work on it because I have to go to irk and meet various people for Very Important Stuff that nobody else could do.
We were then supposed to have two more guided learning days at the end of April to do more project stuff, when our trainer was available and at our disposal for questions etc. Did I get either of those days? No, I did not. Other work stuff intervened that had to be done and of course nobody else could do it. So I tried to get a couple of days last week to write it up. Guess what happened?
So here I am, not enjoying possibly the last sunny day for a while outside doing nice stuff, instead I am stuck in my office finishing off this project. On the plus side, I just saved it to my work laptop. 12.5K words, and I am declaring it done. If I don’t pass this course, I’m resigning!
Gotti, I gotti ask, who is PWAISDN ? Acronym of what?
Other than that I got nuffin. It’s May 8 and I’m wearing my winter coat. Something wrong with that. Ariel got her stitches out last week and you can hardly see the scar. I found out from the barn owner that she had split her head open in the past. Girl, I love ya, but that’s gotta stop…
Drowsy morning, not much better this afternoon.
I don’t feel good. Not ill, just not good.
Mr.Wrekker was supposed to go to Texas on a hog hunt. It was cancelled. All the others he hunts with are afraid of Texas. I was too. I’m glad it’s cancelled.
The weather is unseasonably cool and spitting rain.
I’m hibernating. The Grand-wreks keep comi****ng in to check on me. All the pets are all with me.
Much activity downstairs. Don’t care what they’re doing. FCM, hugs…I’m worried about FCDs ordeal to come. Thinking of y’all.
Goodluck.
Got my car back, and Paul was right. The final tab was $294 and change.
I also picked up the photos daughter had printed at CVS, then I stopped at the dollar store for some frames. So my mom will get some new photos of Roxy.
Shortly, I will have everyone place their dinner order. That’s as close to cooking as I’ll get tonight!
I have to make the turkey I put in the fridge on Toosday. I also have some sausage that needs to be casseroled.
I got two boxes from prime pantry today, both came earlier than expected so all that needs to be put away.
I think I have emough food here to last us for six weeks.
Sometime I have to pull myself together, put some makeup on, and get my son to take a picture of me to update the file at irk. Since everything is online and over the phone, for whatever reason they like to have a picture of us on file.
I’m going to smack my son, I just heard the oven beep. He is making a pizza and I told him to use up the stuff that doesn’t have to be frozen first.
The turkey can’t go in until the pizza comes out, and then the sausage casserole can go in, or maybe I’ll make something different and do it on top the stove.
I was going to make it with eggs and cheese, but maybe I’ll make it with cabbage instead.
My son likes it with eggs and cheese, he heats it up and rolls it up in a tortilla.
Or I could make half with eggs and half with cabbage?
Here we go with another damned decision!
So much easier to order pizza.
I don’t do decisions well at all.
Evening all. Managed to lose the message I typed, so try again. Rain lasted until mid-afternoon and I had no reason to go out (do need a head of lettuce, but I’ll get that tomorrow), so pretty much an internettin’ day. Meals have been consumed and probably need to run the dishwasher tomorrow.
Sari, I would dispute your last sentence above; I think you do decisions pretty well; there may be too damn many of them at times, but your batting average is high, IMHO.
FCM, anytime you get a car back from service under $300, you’re doing good these days.
boofae, you’ll not only pass, I bet you get an “A” (or whatever they call the highest grade possible over in England).
Assorted hugs, tears, smiles and snarky remarks to all as required. Take care now.
nellie, I feel for Esme and hope the scumbags who scammed her are prosecuted to the fullest.
sari, our dog park opened on 01 May when the city parks did. All but six counties in Tennessee are beginning the opening up process. As for your phone, first try restarting it. If that doesn’t fix it, go through and see if you have any unnecessary apps set to automatically run in the background. My S4 did that once when I went up north for my mom’s last hospitalization / memorial service. My niece showed me what to do.
I knocked off irk ~1:30, went to the Boro to grocery shop (I’ve really missed Sprout’s market!) and came home. The Captain fixed supper.
Y’all remember that $100K that went missing because of thievery last month? The CFO wanted to see if any of the other iPhone11s were affected, so ordered a cycle count of them. They landed on my desk about 45 minutes before I left. It looks like there’s potentially another $80K gone AWOL. That will up the ante for the charges of the alleged theft ring. I’ve seen some good sized theft that’s happened in the last 15 years doing this, but never to this extent.
