Hey, we could probably make it if you do. We have family in Charleston.
Oh Yay!
Another get-together! I am so in. And this time I’ll be too far away for crises to pull me away!
Sunday the 31st? Sounds great. Anyone planning on camping? How about the GeoFamily? Those tykes need to learn to enjoy dirt and mosquitos sometime …
October 1–thirty days hath September and all that. We may do a hotel for the weekend; The Dudes aren’t ready for the great outdoor experience just yet, I don’t think. Maybe next summer when they’ve got the walking thing down.
I’m seriously considering camping overnight. Depends on whether or not my newly-acquired significant other is up for it, though. I’m gonna try to wow her with my skills. 'Cause you know chicks dig guys with skills. I’ve got computer hacking skills, bo staff skills, firebuilding skills, wilderness survival skills. . .
Tripler
And I can hunt, kill, and skin Ligers for dinner, too.
Well, now that she’s seen your handyman skills, I don’t see how she could resist.
Sweet! Charleston proper? You want I should drag them to GA?
James Island. My husband’s family is blissfully unaware of the SDMB, and I think he wants to keep it that way. Heh.
No way! I just bought some property over there in July w/ the hope of putting a house on it some day, in the Queensborough subdivision.
I know what you mean about the unaware family; my mom reads here but doesn’t know my handle.
Good news! I called to change the reservation, and picnic shelter #7 was available for Sunday, so I snapped it up. The only thing #3 had going for it was it was closer to a bathroom. Those who were at the last Red Top 'fest will remember 7 is the one down at the end on an almost-island, with a beach right there, which will be perfect for the boaters (those who have their boats ).
So:
Sunday, October 1 at…let’s say noonish?
Red Top State Park picnic shelter #7
Be there!
Oh yeah, and besides Archergal’s pimento cheese sammiches, what other foodstuffs? We’ll probably want burgers and/or dogs, some side items, dessert, beverages…
What kind of grills are there? Are we talking charcoal? If so, I’ll bring a bag or two, along with a few pounds of burgers and dogs (figure a pack apiece).
Count me in. . . whatever day and time.
Tripler
Oh, and I’ll bring sumth’n flammable to start that charcoal.
I’ll make sure that Dominic and I have food so nobody has to worry about our freaky vegetarian ways. We’ll either bring something side-dishy or maybe cookies or something. Depends on how busy I am that weekend and whether I can bake or just have to run by Publix.
Yes, there is a charcoal grill.
Anybody who’s been there, do you remember whether there are electrical outlets? I’m thinking about doing pulled pork, but I’d need to be able to plug in the crockpot to warm it.
Bump.
Oh, and an update on the canoe:
I hadn’t heard from the moving company in over a week or so, so I called them up just to follow up on things. The one lady, “Ashley” to whom I first spoke apparently doesn’t work at the company any longer. Concern for my canoe leads me to ask, “Well, does anyone else know about the matter?”
Lo and behold, the owner of the company gets on the line, and politely chitchats with me on how it got accidentally left behind. I tell my side of the story, and he sees it as it is: a mutual oversight by me (when I signed the invoice) and by the company (when the nice lady filled out the invoice). Anyway, after some “oopsidaisies” on both sides, the owner says, “Well, what did it cost you to buy?” Not wanting to tell him I ‘inherited’ it for free from my cousins, I mentioned that “. . . well, man, we bought that thing 10 - 15 years ago. . . it’s been so long. . . Why don’t you make me an offer?”
He flat out says, “I’d like to buy it off of you for $400.” I say, “Hrm, yeah, I think I can agree to that!” “Excellent, Sir! I’ll put a check in the mail today!” I reply, “Sounds good! That’ll take care of things on both ends.” Today, my check arrived, and I’m promptly mailing it down to my bank for deposit.
So, I just sold a free canoe–which I hardly every used–for a nifty little penny or two. Anyone in the market for some used paddles and seat cushions?
Tripler
Maybe I’ll buy a kayak now. . .
Heh–that’s awesome! Score!
If you want to rent a canoe, Bill found a place that had them for like twelve bucks a day or something like that. Included all the stuff to secure it to the top of the car and everything. I can see if he remembers the name of the outfit if you’re interested. Or, there’s a boat rental at the park; they only rent powered boats, but that would be a fun thing to do.
One more week, people!

ShelliBean
SnakesCatLady
Slithy Tove
Anybody else wants to come, speak up! Or just show up at Red Top picnic shelter #7 next Sunday afternoon sometime.
I think Dear Robert will have to work, alas!
Oh dear, no Dear Robert!
I did get an email from Slithy Tove, however, and he will be attending.
Geobabe,
I plan on being there. I was really interested to see that they’re going to have a re-enactment the following weekend, I may have to get back for that as well! I’ll bring cut fruits & veggies for what, ten?
HAY! LOOK HERE! (It’s a bump).
Look, my new Significant Other might be taking Monday off to be able to travel to this shindig. I tried to get a campsite for Saturday to Sunday, but they were booked solid. So thus, my babe must travel long hours. . .
Anyway, it’s a bump. I think I did it already, but I’ll do it again since we’re like three days away.
Tripler
This gal is a keeper. I’ve driven for her, yet she’s willing to travel hour upon hour for me.
Looks like I can make it.
I’ll be staying nearby the night before so I can only bring store-bought food. Let me know what we need. So far it looks like I should get drinks? (Soda and beer?)
I was hoping my dogs could come too, but looks like that won’t happen. Oh well. I’ll be spending the morning riding my bike. (Is the park itself a good place to ride?)
