(Old) A Drinking Problem in the MMP

We have one outside faucet, in the back of the house. To water the front yard, we stretch a hose from there. When I was clearing the deck for painting, I dutifully unhooked the hose, coiled it up, and put it into the catio. Mrs. L.A. mentioned in passing that when I pull up the hose (which was used today) for painting, I can just unhook it from the faucet and toss it over the side of the deck.

DERP! [insert politically incorrect ‘mentally challenged’ gesture] She said, ‘You always make things harder than than they need to be.’

I bought our house in December, 2003 for $96,000. I checked on Zillow today, and it says the value is $334,000. The photo seems to be from last Halloween, which is before we had the intrusive trees removed, and he concrete and lawn replaced. Not that it matters, since we’re not planning on selling. (FWIW, the mortgage is under $13,000.)

The housing market is nuts right now.

Not that it matters, sinvce we’re not selling; but it’s good to know in case I snuff it.

There’s always that.

Thanks, the break up wasn’t cheap, easy or fun. I highly suspect it was because I really didn’t want to successfully break up because meth lies and tickles and promises and I had learned how to get just high enough to sleep at night after doing a line so I would wake up energized.

I started smoking tobacco when I was 17 and smoked until I left my last job. Then I smoked all of the cigs I had left and never bought another pack. I didn’t like smoking tobacco for the last 10 years I was smoking, mostly I was using that stink so people wouldn’t notice that I smoked as much pot as I could on every break.

Many people have a lot of problems quitting tobacco and I highly suspect it is because they like it like I liked meth.

From what you have shared, I think you did a really good job with that!!!

OWIE! I believe our own flyboy has some finger crushing scars along with residual nerve damage. I hope the little one recovers quickly.

What was in it? Where did it come from? I love mystery boxes!

Sounds all kinds of yum, I’ll remember that for peach season.

Offers careful hugs and sympathy.

They are so sneaky and they don’t present like they did when we were young. I’m so happy it is something that is so easy to treat.

Isn’t that a PITA? We have two taps in the back yard and none in the front. That just wasn’t something we thought to look for when we bought the place. A while back, hubs had someone come out and put gate valves on the back taps along with putting a tap right by the back door, and asked about having water plumbed to the front yard. The answer wasn’t anywhere near what we wanted to hear so it didn’t happen.

I’m also sad about the failed next. I’m sorry you had to clean that up, such a not fun job. Here’s hoping the bird go away thing works!

We paid 139G cash for this little manufactured place in 2018. Since then, we have lost two very nice trees from the drought and a couple of the new trees have given up the ghost as well. Zillow says it’s now worth 250g. The housing market is just insane, we have a dinky (1500 sf) 3/2 home…that is worth a quarter of a million. Mind boggling. Young people don’t have a chance to own their own home and start building wealth that way and it sucks for everyone.

In other news, I’m trying to get GG and COC to co-exist without doors or bars. COC can’t jump and I don’t think he sees very well anymore but sometimes hubs gets up at night to sleep in his recliner and COC cries and keeps me up and everyone is out of sorts in the morning.

This has been stressing GG out so much that I’m now changing direction and looking at water bowls that a big idiot cat can drink out of but can’t splash all over the laminate floors in the middle of the night.

My BFF suggested filling a bowl with marbles and water to make the water splashing not so much fun. It’s easy to tell that she doesn’t have cats.

You can put the water bowl in the center of a planter filled with something easy (like pothos ivy) and then, the splashes water the plants!

Just get the same thing you got last time?

Check the package; it’ll list the dosage. (Typically 10x10 e.g. ten gummies, ten mg each.) Just get the same dosage type, and don’t worry about the little details.

NICE.

It is so smoky here in western Mitten State! The lovely half-moon is pink tonight.

Holy jeebus, that sounds so good!

Oh, we had another new girl tonight! I joked to my manager that it really is gonna turn into Mrs. Scribs.

She’s young, very quiet, but soaked up information quickly. The huge smile she beamed when she made an entire pizza herself and put it in the oven, on her very first day, was pretty special. We all applauded.

Okay, I have got to eat something. Y’all have a good night!

VBC would LOVE something like that, the rotten cat. Houseplants do not do well with our jerks.

My allergies have gone so nutz that I now have a sore under my nose. I can’t do Tai chi with a mask on and I certainly can’t go out with this stoopid sore right in the middle of my face. This sucks.

Up, caffeinated, and shevled. Off to heave. Read but did not retain.

Him: “Send dudes
Her: “Don’t you mean’Send nudes’?”
Him: “I’m in a fight, and I need men.”

Total, or per month?

Morning, mumpers! It’s a breezy 19c/66f with a predicted high of 22c/72f, and mostly cloudy. That fits with what is outside my open window in the campus office. Weather app has a question though - “Do we talk about the weather because we have nothing else in fucking common?” Well, yes, I suppose we do

Mooom I am glad to hear FCD has been to the doc and got some meds, hopefully he’ll be back to his usual self soon enough.

metal mouse students complain to us because we’re the ones who push the buttons that release their results, and we have an office so there’s a physical presence on campus five days a week. Some of them still haven’t got their heads around the fact that we don’t work evenings and weekends, and that some of us dare to take time off. They were emailed to tell them which dept heads were available in person or by email, but they usually ignore such important missives in favour of contacting us and whinging just because they can.

JtC sorry to hear you have a bleb, I hope it disappears quickly so you can be out and about amongst the Great Unwashed.

Good news of the day, my midweek pub night friend was discharged from hospital yesterday after nearly a week incarcerated with a nasty dose of Hepatitis E. The doc tested him for absolutely everything possible, eliminated a lot of things, and finally settled on HepE as his diagnosis. They let him out yesterday afternoon with an appointment on Friday for a follow-up blood test, some meds and a letter for his GP. He sent me a message to tell me he was free, and he’d gone to the pub for dinner with his g/f! The three of us would normally go out tonight but I’m not expecting to see him as I think he will need a bit of time to get over being in hospital, they’re usually the worst places to be when you feel grim.

Other than that, a quiet day here. Final year results release was remarkably successful, student complaints were not too numerous although a few were rather snarky so they went straight to the Head of School to reply to. We are waiting to find out how we’re dealing with the continuing students but they aren’t due for any release now until the end of next week. I’m in the office with my team, everyone else is at home (team manager looked absolutely shattered yesterday), and tomorrow we have a new starter in the office.

Since I’m sure you’re all very concerned about my drinking problem, you’ll be pleased to hear that I’m about to have a cuppa!

To quote myself in a thread I started

Beer is my buddy, wine my woman, but today, just for today, I must stay away

Sadly, that was a post from 2007, and it took another four years before I could quit her for good.

I’ve been really stressed lately. Suddenly being a single dad, even for just two week while TokyoWife was on business trip added to the pressure. Fortunately, I have found some other ways of coping so it’s easier to ignore the calls, but I do have to work on my stress daily.

Flyboy, I’m impressed as always with the amount of things you get done.

Cat Glove I don’t believe I’ve ever been to a Polish restaurant before. Not that many in Japan.

Metal Mouse, I need to start planning my trip to the States as well.

FCM good to have a diagnosis and treatment.

wet one how long will those fires keep going? That doesn’t sound fun at all.

The would-be marketers are nuts, too. I got an email proclaiming “We sold a house like yours near you!!!” Apparently 8 miles away in a different zip code is near me, and a 3200+ sq ft colonial with 4 BR and 3.5 Ba is like my 1624 sq ft 3/2 ranch house. From the photo, the place looks a lot newer than my place. And there ain’t no way our place is even close to $575K. Not that we have given any indication that we’re considering selling…

It’s taking everything I’ve got not to lay into him about his “I’m not a wimp” mindset. Had he sought treatment various times in the past before things got extreme, he probably could have avoided several spinal surgeries, emergency gall bladder surgery, and I’m not going to go on because it’ll just piss me off. Of course, observing his parents, I know why he is the way he is. At least his mom is now doing her PT regularly and she’s getting stronger.

Boy, did we have a frog-strangler last night! I was after dark, so we heard more than we saw. This morning, there’s a big hunk of broken tree in the front yard - the dead branches tend to plummet when the weather gets wild. The next few days are supposed to be nice, but, of course, come weekend, the rain is forecast to return. That’ll mess up many a holiday weekend plan, I expect.

We have no plans, apart from dog-sitting for Daughter. A lot depends on how FCD is feeling. He had a bad night last night and I don’t know if he’ll stay in bed much today - see the aforementioned “I’m not a wimp” paragraph. I wonder how long till the meds have an effect?

I may take the kids to a playground this afternoon - we’ll have to see how I and they feel. Today is water-play day at Roxy’s school, so she may well be exhausted. And tomorrow is her last day at that school. But she is excited about kindergarten and making new friends and having a new teacher. I just need to entertain her and her brother for the next few weeks.

But not just yet. I have surfing to finish. Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some fried chikin, so we shall get fried chikin plates from the Pubic Sto’ for N.O.L. which will take care of the main need to feed for the day. The usual quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, day drinkin’ and general overall uselessness also need to be accomplished.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I suffer!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Morning all. Seems that 7 hours of sleep is my new normal, so I’m up and more-or-less alert. Main mission this morning is the Braunsweiger run (for any newbies, the local groceries do not carry Oscar Mayer Braunsweiger, which is the only brand I’ve eaten for 60+ years, so I do a 30 mile drive to a place that does carry it). Also think I’ll go ahead and book that trip for the end of July. Along with swimming and sauna that should take care of my day’s activity.

flyboy, I’m lucky enough to have one front and one back outdoor faucet, don;t know how I’d manage if there was only one. And bought my house for $104,900 in 1997, it’s $258,500 now on Zillow.

JtC, I am glad you were able to break up with the bad stuff, I am grateful that I never smoked or took drugs (I really do wonder if I should have tried weed in college, but didn’t and too old now to start any bad habits). Go luck with the feline peace talks; might be as simple as the Arab-Israeli situation to solve…

boo fae, not sure I’ve heard of Hep E; I’m vaccinated from Hep A and Hep B, so hopefully I don’t have to worry. Hope pub friend recovers completely.

Ok, have just about finished breaking fast, so need to get dressed and hit the road early, so all y’all have a good Hump day.

More bad air today. I can smell the smoke. Have no idea how long the forest fires will last. I read that eventually they burn out on their own. I don’t know if that is true. Today I have a massage, then PT. Should be the other way round.

We thought it was crazy back in 2009, when we paid $350K for a small bungalow in Portland. Then we put it on the market last year (on a Friday) for $650K (which put me into shock) and on Monday it sold for $740K. Now that is truly nuts; we sat there looking at the realtor with our jaws hanging down to our belts. Not that I’m complaining, mind you, as we are now financially secure for the remainder of our lives.

My brain decided to mimic FCM’s and woke me at 3:30. I’m listening to sleepy chirps and twittering as birds start their day. I need groceries. Should I take the babushka cart and gut out the pain or have them delivered and let my muscles turn into mush?

My son sent me a link to an article in a medical journal that used DIL’s data. (She does research for a big institution.) She is a smarty pants. Recently I complemented her on her math skills. She said it’s just because her mother made her do algebra in kindergarten. I pointed out that the average kindergartner can count to 100 and thinks algebra is something The Little Mermaid wears under her clamshells. :woman_shrugging:

FCM, so glad FCD got a diagnosis and is treating the UTI! My mom got a UTI and had no symptoms, which I gather is common in older folks. She became septic, and we lost her. I used to think of UTI’s as painful but minor nuisances. No more. Is FCD good about taking meds, or does he require prodding?

JtC: would you please bring tell your hummers to spread the word that the ere aren’t some nice fuchsia in there PNW? I have had no visitors yet. I think of YOU when I gaze at my fuchsia!

lucky, the beverage sounds yum. I bet preach will be extra yum. Oo! You could make Bellinis!

sunny, fingers crossed you feel better pronto!

red, your family members tree must have some tangled branches. I have a friend whose mom was one of 22 children. I get confused whenever my friend goes into family relationships.

WetOne, I grew up in Chicago and never saw forest fire smoke until I lived in Montana. It’s astonishing. I sure hope it clears soon!

I know you’ll be great at it. How is Her Ladyship at general sloth and day drinkin’?

Is cat porn a thing? Tibby Does Dallas?

it was from birdmoss. Birdmoss: Glimpse a Magical World

the company…ah, sounds ah, bit twee. it is a lovely company very responsive and a pleasure. i decided to give them a try after cancelling another subscription box.

the first little intro box was wonderful, and this month’s box was delightful, it was hedgehog! it came with jasmine tea and little sugar doilies to float in your cup of tea. a hedgehog needle keeper, little hedgehog quills, a ribbon wreath, a wooden corner thing, i’m sure there is something i’m forgetting. oh! a strawberry charm.

i have another subscription box that i am considering cancelling. i give away more than i keep of that box. koritza and lager love the box, but i believe i could find them a better monthly box.

He’s good about it but sometimes I have to remind him.

Got a pot of veggie beef soup started- it smells good in here. Shortly I’ll give Tobias a bottl3 and try to get him to nap. Wish me luck.

Reasonable heave today. Apparently the Union broke off talks, since the company want to give us a 25 cent raise, and make us pay for our health plan now(they’re poor, because they had to spend $3.5 billion buying back defective stock )
