It’s entirely possible his parents didn’t know, but the kid knew he shouldn’t do it because he’d hidden it. We probably won’t get a follow-up, so we’ll never know.
Well, I just had a fun time. I heard a gawd-awful noise and ran back to find MIL wedged between her door and her recliner, with her walker on the floor beside her. I had a heck of a time getting into the room to help her up. She’d hit her head and cut her arms in 3 places and her leg in one. I immediately called Hospice and we’re waiting for a nurse to show up. MIL insists she’s “fine” but she’s all wrapped up on the couch sleeping. I had to bandage 4 bleeding wounds.
I mentioned that’s why we don’t leave her home alone. She claims she could have gotten up by herself. Yeah. And the award for the Stubbornest Old Woman of the Year goes to…
FCD was at the Hyundai dealer getting a part on his car - he’ll be here eventually. Hope the nurse comes soon.
A lot better than yours. Cat draped over my shoulder purring like an Evinrude, which will delay my deeply enjoyed first cup of coffee ritual. At least she let me get in that crucial first morning pee first. She’s all considerate like that.
And now the gel shots have been denied (according to my doctor’s office). Except, according to my insurance, they haven’t been denied, they just need more information from the doctor.
Morning all. Clear skies and heading to 83F, so mowage will be accomplished this morning to tame my yard. Then swimming and sauna this afternoon and slothage in the evening as this is my one non-soccer coaching day of the week. Having a Big Bowl O’Cheerios and an apple to break my fast, the rest of the day is forage and whatever comes to hand.
May have to go shopping for pajama bottoms, like everything else I had that was sized for 275lb me, they keep slipping off 215lb me, so probably need to do a Wal-Mart visit in the near future.
{{Sticky Buns}}, I hope some action can be taken in your behalf, sounds like you were royally scr… messed with.
I’ve never really understood why two things I would never eat alone taste good combined on a potato chip…ah well, to each their own.
shoe, glad some customers are appreciative; somewhat makes up for the…others…
shady, interesting, if slight gross, story. Don’t think I have had anything like that but sure understand the concern.
swampy, between the church stuff and tacos, sounds like body and soul will be well taken care of today.
Taters, hope your son enjoys the day as much as you do; sounds like he really needs that decompression time.
FCM, around here it’s Publix for the high class, Kroger for the great middle, Wal-Mart for the plebeians and Aldi for the edgy. Haven’t been to BJ’s enough to classify the shoppers there, probably for the big family folks. Enjoy the Power Boat show, but parking sounds like a rip-off to me.
And just read about MIL’s accident. Hope she’s OK. You too.
boo fae, another new word for me (lurgy). Glad plumbing is in order.
OK, give the lawn about an hour’s more sun for the dew to dry and get out there and bag some clippings. Take care all.
Ok, I learned something. Ask for the damn price upfront. The shots are apparently not covered because reasons. However, they’re less than $200 each if I pay for them. So, um, yeah, I’m doing that. Yay! The process is in process to get stabbed in the knee, finally!
Yeah, but it’s Annapolis, the colonial town of narrow streets, where the residents get parking stickers and all others get towed.
Nurse has been and gone. MIL has a goose egg on the left side of her forehead, so we know where she hit. And thank goodness they took her off blood thinners! All the bloody areas are skin tears - she has such thin, fragile skin. She’s in bed now and we’re supposed to rouse her every couple of hours to be sure it’s not a concussion.
BIL called to talk to her and I put him off - she doesn’t need to deal with his crap. Neither do I, but I promised to show him how to pay his VISA on line, so I guess I’ll be going over there soon.
I think my pulse is finally slowing down. Maybe. Helluva day.
Whoa. That is quite the morning. I feel for all of you. Just frustrating all around. Mil believes she should be able to do simple every day things. Then things go wrong.
that’s what it was …their cheese they use for their "lasagna " (cause they use egg noodles) some meat slivers some veg slivers and barely flavored sausage oh and grease…
Crap. I hope you recover quickly and without complications and undue distress.
This!!!
Thank you for the positive reinforcement, I always try to contact management about good service but I never really know if it makes a difference for the worker.
Low carb hubby makes what he calls a pizza bowl which looks to be about the same thing. Pizza sauce, pepperoni, cheese. I always eat mine with a ciabatta roll.
That whole thing sucks. I hope you can get some satisfaction.
Mixer tap? Hot and cold controls with one outlet?
Oh NO! How scary for both of you, I hope she isn’t hurting now.
Geeze louise. I hate our medical system.
I had to leave class early today because my foot kept cramping, which I thought was pretty odd. I’m probably not going to renew my class card when I run out, I honestly think that I get more out of doing laps on my own. I did meet some nice people so it was worth trying.
This morning it was foggy and very misty, I drove to the gym mentally begging “Stay in the forest, stay in the forest, I dont’ know what’s out there but please stay out there.” It worked, nothing jumped out in front of my car. It has cleared up some, but we are getting showers again.
I was starving when I got home so I made some chicken salad and served it on avocado halves. I gave hubs some chips with his but I was still feeling all virtuous about exercising (and they were kettle chips anyhow) so I abstained.
Jolene is just all full of beans today, the zoomies have been almost non stop. Poor GG is pretty worn out but he’s still trying to keep up. Hopefully they will go to sleep soon, It’s a wonderful day to stitch and watch the rain fall.
Weighing in on chips (American version). The only flavors I do are sour cream and onion and rarely barbecue. My top pick is Wavy Lay’s Lightly Salted. Frankly, I haven’t met a potato chip. I don’t like. Which is why they are now forbidden in my house.
I eat plain crisps/chips. I do make the sour cream and onion dip with the Lipton mix. I sift out the onion big bits and only use the powder. I also use the dip for latkes and vareniki.
Not baked or mashed potatoes. Those just get plain sour cream.
Me too, wet one, although I occasionally pick up one of those ‘snack pack’ boxes with 10 1oz. bags and test my resistance (if I can only eat one a day, I’m doing good), but a big bag won’t last two days. Waiting for the Super Bowl to come around, on that day I get one very big bag of Chips and eat them all during the game. Fattening, but hey, Tradition!
Mowage is completed, five full bags of clippings, so just had a glass of Instant Breakfast and will head off to the swimming place shortly. Take care all.
JtC, I’m pretty much a lap person, whatever you are comfortable with. And never go driving in rural New England (New Hampshire/Vermont/Maine), they have warning signs for Moose Crossings!
Aide has been here and gone. No shower but a wash-up and fresh bandages and a clean nightgown. MIL has some cheese and crackers and a dish of strawberries, and I expect she’ll fall asleep in her chair. FCD is running a couple of errands. I’m thawing a ring of fresh (not smoked) Polish sausage for supper. I’m thinking rice and broccoli for sides.
MIL is looking drowsy in her chair. I predict nappage soon.
And this reminded me to finally chase down my earbuds so I can listen to music at work. Two days of work which could have been accompanied by music and the earbuds were still in vacation mode (that is, not in my office backpack).
I made sure that our newest bathroom clock has the day of the week. But I didn’t realize that it was super cheap and doesn’t do English. So every Tuesday, it tells me “DIE”, which is short for Dienstag (Tuesday). But it’s also my Doper name, so it’s a bit amusing.
Sorry about that. Hope it’s a mild case.
Whoop!
And I’ve caught up!
Mature Cheddar and Chive (Tyrell’s) is the favorite one I buy locally. Comes in from the UK, because Switzerland only believes in plain and BBQ. They’ve expanded, but not to cheddar.
While we were in Quebec, I tried Pouding Chomeur with vanilla ice cream. It was GOOD. So I found a recipe by a site called Evil Twin. Have to try making it. Right?
Work is weird - my boss is on vacation, so all my instructions are from emails they sent last week, and I also got an email from their boss, who wants me to do something. So I am entirely unsupervised, but have competing priorities. So I’ll just muddle through.
We visited my sister-in-law last weekend. We saw 3 deer near her house. The next day we drove out and saw 3 deer at the same place. Same deer? Who knows. Didn’t get that close. Can’t imagine seeing a moose while driving.
Suppose I should join hubby on the couch and chill before going to bed at a reasonable hour.

<bangs gavel> I hereby establish the Mumpers United Against Kettle Chips Association (MUAKCA)!
The cleaners will be coming sometime today: they usually get here right about now so at first I was going to wait to have lunch, but I’m feeling kinda grumpy about something at work so I decided to take a break and pop in here…and then I realized I was hungry, so I just finished a banana and am about to have some Hormel pot roast. And I have a 2.75-oz bag of Utz ripple chips for later.
WARNING: The following is long and kinda rambly, and worst of all I’m not looking for advice…I just need to talk/write about it.
So, just four days ago I wrote this:
Well, at the end of last night’s personal training session my trainer told me that in a couple of weeks his schedule is going to change: he’s only going to offer private sessions on weekdays between 10am and 4pm – a total no-go for me. The rest of the time, only semi-private sessions (training with 1-3 other people) will be available. After some thought, I’ve decided to stop any kind of personal training…but I won’t quit the gym entirely.
He tried to talk me into the group training: he’s mentioned it before, and in the past year I’ve explained at least twice why I’m really not interested in that (I absolutely know that I would hate it). Frankly, all of his reasons and recommendations – including why he didn’t want to simply hand me off to another trainer – felt like they had very little to do with me and were more about his best interests. Which I get, but some of it was complete BS: either he flat-out lied about a couple of things or he’s actually been a terrible trainer for the past year. Anyway, like I said a few days ago I can tell that I’ve gotten a little stronger in some ways, and some of my lack of progress is definitely my fault (e.g., gaining almost 20 pounds), but there are things about his training that have bugged me for a while but haven’t outweighed generally liking him…but by effectively taking 1:1 sessions off the table, he’s made the decision to stop training pretty easy for me. (I don’t think working with any of the other trainers there would be much different; certainly not $8,000/year different.)
I’ll continue to be a gym member, though – at least, for now – because it’s a nice facility and super close to home and I like knowing that there’s a place nearby with good treadmills, etc., if I ever get motivated. And, now I’m going to want to try some of the classes again: they haven’t worked for me/stuck in the past, but when I’m not working out twice a week anymore maybe I can find some “oomph” for a class or two every now and then.
This also means that it’s time to get serious about my eating habits and this weight re-gain, and stop using workouts as an “excuse” to eat crap (right after I finish these chips… ). It’s also time to finally start doing some stretches and core exercises at home. And maybe even get back on the “check-up” wagon and schedule some bloodwork/a bariatric center appointment. My three-year surgiversary will be at the end of November; I’ll aim to set up an appointment for around then.
Whew; that was a lot! If you read it all, thanks for listening. I live alone and work from home: being able to organize my thoughts and yammer at y’all really does help.
Or a Buick?
I can definitely taste a difference between brands, I just like all of them.
Oh wow, Husband BFF is exactly the same way. He hardly slept all all during the first two years of COVID, because Wife BFF is immune compromised and he was super stressed that she’d get it. He’s still extremely uptight about it – more than she is, and more than even her infectious disease doc is. Wife BFF and I have discussed how we seriously worry about his health sometimes (mental and physical), because of how much he stresses about things.
Just when I think pics of the two of them can’t get any cuter..
Ooooo, good tip; thanks!
My dad loves their newsletter thingy; this wasn’t the first time he shared something he read in one of them. But, the target audience is always truly ~10 years older than me. I think I can wait a while longer, if nothing else!
Whatcha gonna get?
Meh!
Indeed!
The corporate equivalent recently happened to me!
There’s one gov’t person in charge of the whole contract on the customer side; he’s the equivalent of our program manager (PM). On Monday evening, he emailed the PM’s boss – who he knows because she used to be the PM – out of the blue and asked her to call him. That’s typically not a good thing, but it turned out that he wanted to compliment the PM, deputy PM, and me on all of our responsiveness and helpfulness! (There’ve been a bunch of random and/or last-minute data requests in the past few months.) We were all like, “Woah!”
Original Pringles quickly become too salty for me (even the really small “lunch” packs of them are too many), so I’ve been getting the “less salt” variety. Which only come in the tall cans. And yeah: by the end of a tall can they’re definitely a bit cardboardy! I know that’s not what you’re saying, but maybe you somehow started eating the low-salt ones by mistake…?
Most chips get too salty for me eventually, which is why I used to always eat them with dip (usually Utz’s creamy onion or the Lipton soup mix dip). I haven’t had any dip – or bought any family-sized bags of chips – since my surgery, though. Which is a good thing!
As a teen – and into my 20s – I couldn’t eat Fritos because they smell like paws (which I knew because (a) we had cats and (b) my brother used to eat Fritos in the living room)!
My Mumper experience exactly! Please feel free to yammer on anytime~it peoples my world and heaven knows my cat doesn’t converse back all that often unless there is something in it for her.
Busy day, being the first of the month; so I just went down to the supermarket for a rotisserie chicken for diner. It’s half the size of what you can get at Costco, but at least it cost twice as much. I’ve cut up some red potatoes with the skins on, and they’re boiling. I’ll mash them up with heavy cream, unsalted butter, salt, and minced garlic. And I have a packet of chicken gravy mix.
Seven minutes until the cats get fed, and Wifey, RN should get home around the same time.
