And the dishwasher repair folks called and they’ll be out today instead of tomorrow, somewhere between 12-2pm. While this is a good thing, it may preclude me getting to the gym if the very bad weather settles in on-time. We’ll see.
First JtC, now you, Cookie; it’s a heart-wrenching decision and {{hugs}} to you and your feline friend.
FCM, I recycle my plastic too, I usually use the self-service lines so I stuff them pretty good. Surprisingly Kroger doesn’t have any place to recycle them so I have to go to Publix or Wal-Mart to turn them in.
OK, need to get myself presentable for the applicance folks here in a bit. Take care all.
I lived in St. Louis for 20 years. We spent 3 solid months every year under “torcon 7”, an invention of The Weather Channel solely to attract eyeballs and clicks. Never had one in our county over 20 years.
People forget how localized a tornado is. Posts like that scare everybody within 3 states, while even if a strong tornado (the rarest kind) lands someplace, the total area destroyed is the size of a shopping mall and associated parking lot, just stretched out in a long narrow line.
Quit worrying over nothing. When the sky overhead turns green, hide under the nearest solid thing. Until then, chill. You’re as likely to win the Powerball as you are to experience a damaging, much less devastating, tornado. Not because a tornado won’t happen somewhere, but because it won’t happen where you are when you are.
Good luck w the new job and getting paid for the old one. Bastards.
I remain in awe of your level of aerobic exercise.
My late wife was a not-very-successful personal trainer. But spent a lot of her healthy years in the gym. One of her sayings was “You can’t out-train a poor diet. Whether poor is measured in terms of quality or quantity.”
Seems like I’ve got one half mostly under control and you’ve got the other half totally nailed. Between us there’s a superman and a terminal couch potato; just not assembled correctly . Overall I’d bet you’ve actually got the heathier half of the bargain. Everyone has their areas they’re strong, and areas were they’re helpless against temptation.
It takes me over 3 hours per day every day to read everything and respond to some things. It’s becoming overwhelming to me too. I think we’re all getting chattier, and swampy has it figured out: a 2 paragraph update in the morning, skim the rest, offer an encouragement to somebody suffering, and get on with your life / day.
I’m about to adopt a similar approach. I had not intended my part of the MMP to turn into a blog or a fulltime job. And yet it has done both. Oops. They say recognizing you have a problem is the first step on the road to recovery.
That always works great for me. Until the tank splits at midnight. Good luck! Seriously, not snarkily.
Boy, the hits (as in “gut punches”) just keep coming, don’t they? Best of luck on the rocky road ahead. {{Hugs}}.
Between management training to segregate hot from cold and food from not and fragile from not, and packaged from fresh and … plus young folks’ concerns that anyone with gray hair can’t lift a bag with more than 2 items in it, it’s amazing how many bags they go through around here.
Then they ask me if I need a bag for my e.g. 6/8 pack of soda / beer along with the 20 other barely occupied bags. Heck, I need that last bag more than I need about half the others; darn hard to carry 12 bags, six hung on each arm, while keeping hand(s) free to juggle fobs, keys, doors, elevators and … but now they want me to somehow juggle one or three un-bagged items that don’t have carry handles and so can’t hang on my arms. Idjits.
As to me. …
Up at 3am, out the door at 3:45, on the plane at 5:30, just passed through DFW and now at noon am airborne again on the way to Mazatlán. So far, so nominal.
Assuming no ground transport snags I’ll get to the hotel three-ish hours before check-in time so there may be some awkwardness there. That was never an issue at work: the hotels had our rooms ready aligned around whatever our arrival / departure schedule was. So I’m just not used to considering this factor and was surprised by it this morning. The infuriating habit of Outlook to silently display some things, but not all things, in an unexpected time zone doesn’t help.
Let the adventure begin.
Best of luck to everyone beset by the current hail of slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.
Coppertone there are actually a couple schools down here that dismissed early. And I have been in a ‘miniburst’ here in Ohio. It was, uh, exciting. It ripped part of the roof off of my house and took out every other tree in a line in the backyard. Hopefully, though, today it will slide through between the two of our areas and fizzle out in the middle of an empty field(s).
PT was ok this morning. I’ll be going twice a week. This evening (assuming it’s not canceled) I’m going to a local center for people with special needs to start volunteering. Since it’s Autism Awareness Month, there will be special events and we were requested to wear special gear. I went into MusicMan’s closet and found a shirt that almost fits me that has a saying about Autism. And MusicMan (who is autistic) said, “oh, it’s husband awareness month!
Took a bike ride yesterday with my sister and my 8 yr old granddaughter who was off school. (The kid made it 12 miles!) On the way back, the kid told me to turn one block before her street. I figured it out and played along, asking where her house was and saying I was lost. She delightedly called out “April Fools!” and led us around the block to her house.
I usually ride point, with my sister in back and the kid in between. Sis told me the kid had been planning - and chortling about - fooling grandpa since we had turned around 6 miles back! Yeah, it is fun being a grandpa!
And a good afternoon all. Well, for once the timing went pretty good, the appliance guy got here about 11:15am and was done a little after 12, so did make it to the gym and have returned home before the weather sets in. Have already called off soccer practice, they’ve closed the fields and the schools dismissed about noon, so it’s more than just me worried about the weather here. There is some rain and thunder about now, but nothing really severe, that’s due in a couple hours.
More awesome is the 12 or so hours I spend slothing around the house and computer…And yeah, while I count calories and am trying to eat (slightly) healthier, too many burgers, bread and meats and not enough veggies to really make for a good diet here. Have started eating either 2 apples or 2 bananas per day, but also have a few small snack packs of Cheetos left over from the soccer games and…I’ve decided I’ll probably never do better on my eating, so just trying to restrain the quantity and frequency to manageable levels (one 5 Guys vist per month only!!!)
And I never counted, but probably spend several hours a day on the SDMB, a fair amount of it in these threads.
Enjoy the trip, Pilot.
Sticky Buns, nearest I came to a tornado was in N. Ohio about 30 years ago. Was in a Hardee’s and …something…passed real close, later on we saw trees down on the roads a few miles away.
Dinsdale (do you have a MMP name yet?) that story made me chuckle.
OK, need to unload dishwasher and shut off the water main (still being paranoid) before the weather gets real bad. Take care all.
I go through Indy 3-4 times a year wheelie. Other than spending the night there when I was hit, I haven’t stopped anywhere other than a gas station on the north side in years.
{{{cookie, MrsCoookie and Q’iteh}}}
It’s raining here in middle Tennessee and has been most of the day.
On the way home from irk, I saw karma chalk one up. There’s a stop light about 100 feet from the beginning of the school zone for one of our middle schools and the high school, where the speed limit drops to 15 mph. I usually don’t get past the 15 until I’m out of the zone, so they get a few extra feet from me.
When I began to move after the light turned green, some @$$hole in a white Nissan came up really fast behind me and got within a couple of feet from my bumper. As he pulled around to pass me, he nearly picked off the crossing guard and hit the non-school speed. Karma bit him in the butt when the officer pulled out of Bulldog (the school mascot and the street that borders the side of the HS) Drive and lit him up. I hope that the bastige is fined the max.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got done and put away where it lives until it gets dirty again. Much sloth has transpired, along with nappage and day drinkin’. Sup got made and et and the kitchen got cleanded up. Life is so excitatin’ here at da cave.
{{{Cookie, Mrs. Cookie, and Q’itih}}} I don’t know what else to say.
Pilot hope you made it safe and sound and without a glitch in the reservation.
Y’all who are in the path of all the bad storms stay safe!
red that story made me smile. Hope the fool is havin’ the worst day ever.
Well. It was a day alright. I got up early to be ready for work, and, as has been going on for almost 2 years, had to take anti diarheal pills. Sometimes I have to take 8 at a time.
I haz a doctor appointment tomorrow to get to the bottom of this.
Training was easy. The place feels nice, I get vibes from places.
Since they’ve got me on Tuesdays and Saturdays, I walked 5minutes and asked for an interview, couple days a week.
He asked me for my e mail and said they are making the schedule on Friday, so this sounds like they want me. I Am a good interview.
Then I take the bus almost home, pick up a library book and snacks, and transfer to a bus that gets me almost home.
After I get off, I realize I’ve left my bag on it.
I called Laketran and told them to call the driver, he knows me.
So I was waiting when he returned from the college.
He gave me a pumpkin cheesecake poece his wife made, hes done this before.
Here I is eating my second helping of spaghetti.
Today was very subdued. VBC used to snooze on the spare bed so I could reach her when my hands needed a break from stitching and I still keep turning to look for her before I get slapped in the face with hard reality again. GG keeps looking for his mate, he’s having problems with the empty bed as well. I’ve seen tears in Hubs eyes at times as well.
Our pet sitter came by today to give back the key and tell us how sorry she is. The poor lady feels responsible despite us reassuring her that we know she is wrong about that. If repeated vet visits, tests and x-rays didn’t find the problem, there is no way she could have changed the outcome by doing something differently.
While we were in WV, I bought her a pretty piece of polished pyrite as a Thank You gift (WV is known for coal and glass. She has cats, so while a glass cat would be perfect, glass tchotchkes aren’t the smartest gift for cat slaves. Pyrite is often found around coal AND is pretty cat safe.).
She seemed to really like the pyrite, took her measly forty bucks and let it slip that she uses pine litter which was good to know because of our plan to have litter and gooshy fud shipped to her home. Hubs got that taken care of after she left.
While we were in WV, my phone slipped out of my pocket and the screen shattered. It still worked but I now had an icky screen. We didn’t have time to deal with it at the time, so today hubs called the shop that fixed his comp and learned that replacing the screen would be around 130.00. While I’d rather not send another tech toy to the landfills (yes we do take them to recycle places, but I’m sure that most of the parts get tossed), replacing my cheapo droid will cost much less than having the screen replaced.
Hubs looked around online, found a couple of phones he thought I’d like. I picked the blue one because we both have black phones now and that causes confusion at times.
I grinned when I read it too! I love it when jerks like that get instant payback.
Have caught up but haven’t retained very much so Yays, Boos, Noogies, Hugs, Chitlins and How you doing to all. Well I think extra hugs are in order so {{{{{{{{ }}}}}}}}.
Some days it’s all I can do to keep the balls from hitting the floor. Since I stayed up last night watching the women’s Elite Eight (congrats to Iowa for beating LSU and making it to the Final Four; also UConn beat USC), I didn’t wake up until 8:45. Had to hustle to get Hubs breakfast as he’s supposed to take his morning pills at 9am give or take. I was supposed to make ham and eggs for him but when I got in the kitchen, he texted and said he’d be good with Cheerios, with sliced banana and slivered almonds. Then brought up OJ and refilled his water glass; he’s very particular about this, I have to put in exactly 10 ounces then 7-8 drops of lemon juice and 2 ice cubes. Made self several slices of raisin cinnamon toast .
Texted our daughter and asked her to ask the Host of an airbnb that I’m thinking about for the weekend if the tv gets the TBS channel; if not, it’s a NO GO since the Final Four is Saturday and it’s on TBS.
In meantime sliced an apple and took the skin off half for Hubs. Then showered, slathered on lotion, my legs get very dry in the winter.
Hubs asked me to go to Kroger and get Dave’s Killer Bread since it’s currently on sale and today’s the last day. Before I left, he texted and asked if I would go to the health food store and buy a bag of blood orange ginger chews and a bag of mango ginger chews. The nurse at the Stem Cell Transplant clinic recommended them for stomach issues and they work well for Hubs. But first I peeled a mandarin orange for Hubs and took it up to him. So, off I went, bought the ginger chews then on to Kroger. As I pulled into the parking lot, it hit me that I was supposed to bring the heart monitor to the post office to return; they had called Hubs and threatened him with something if it didn’t get returned (I don’t remember what). Oh well, tomorrow’s another day. I had forgotten my list for Kroger; it only had 5 items on it and 4 were easy to remember: Dave’s Killer bread, nanners, Better Made potato chips (on sale), chicken breasts (again on sale but the packages were way too big so passed). Couldn’t remember the other item but I asked a gent if I could briefly look at his circular and it reminded me that the last item was Simply Orange with Mango. When I got to the case, I noticed that the sale isn’t over until next week so I decided to wait until Friday (4x fuel pts).
Just before I left for Kroger Hubs texted and said it might be a good idea to get the medication to be infused out of the refrigerator before I left. I had totally forgotten today was an infusion day. I had also forgotten on Sunday. At around 2:45 on Sunday Hubs asked if I was ready to administer the infusion and I replied that I hadn’t even gotten the medication bag out of the refrigerator so it would be at least an hour until I could infuse it. So, when I returned from Kroger today, first I made a sandwich for Hubs then I got the infusion going. While it was infusing, I got on the NuStep and did 40 minutes with my legs then another 8 minutes with arms only. Started to tidy up a bit but then the infusion pump started beeping indicating that the infusion was complete.
Just before I left for Kroger my sister had also texted me asking if I had noticed that she’s been texting me every Tuesday recently. Reason is because she’s been taking a smartphone 101 class at the senior center. She said she won’t be texting again unless she has another reason to turn on her cellphone which she very rarely uses, basically when she’s away from home on a golf trip and wants to speak with her husband. So, when I got back from kroger, I texted her and let her know that I received her text but that I hadn’t noticed that she had been texting on Tuesdays. Then I texted daughter to ask her to text her Aunt quickly before she shut her cellphone off. I thought my sister would appreciate hearing from her niece/goddaughter.
After I put the infusion equipment away, I started the process to filter 4 gallons of water. Then started on making million dollar pasta casserole. While I was in the process of all that, daughter called and said the Host of the airbnb had confirmed that the tv did in fact get TBS. So, I asked daughter if she would mind making the reservation. I don’t, or should I say didn’t, have an account with airbnb. So, this process took 45 minutes during which time I kept having to empty the filter into water bottles, and continue with making the casserole which entails dicing onions (and I put in red bell peppers today), sauteeing them, browning ground beef, heating up sauce and adding italian seasoning and extra oregano (Hubs says you can’t have too much oregano), making the cheese layer (cream cheese, cottage or ricotta cheese, sour cream) then assembling and baking. Had to give daughter CC info, take pic of my license several times and send to her (first 2 times were apparently not sharp enough), then she had me download the airbnb ap and go through a lot of steps that she patiently went through with me. Finally the reservation was made so I’ll be in Norton Shores this Saturday and Sunday leaving Monday morning. Planning to do some walking on the beach along Lake Michigan and doing some hiking in the woods. There’s a sauna in the airbnb so I’ll plan to relax in there a bit.
Heated some broccoli and toasted some Texas garlic toast. After the pasta casserole came out of the oven, I put a Marie Callendar’s strawberry rhubarb pie in to bake. After 40 minutes, I put the struesel topping on then popped it back in for another 10 minutes. It’s now cooling so that I can cut it in a bit.
Today is the day I’m supposed to swiffer and change the sheets in Hubs room but perhaps I’ll wait until tomorrow. I’m beat.
{{{JtC, Hubs, GG}}}
I wish that karma would hit the drivers that pass me in the middle turn lane on the 25 mph street going around 40ish.
Oh forgot to say Congrats to the NC State women wolfpack that won their Elite Eight game on Sunday, IIRC, and are going to the Final Four.
I had a dental appointment this morning for cleaning and a check-up. The tech gave me an A for plaque and said I had no calculus (Math was never my thing.) Dentist said the same. Also, no new gum shrinkage in a year. This is when I’m glad I floss, use the Waterpik, etc. I got a fluoride treatment, too, just 'cause, but–and this was a real letdown, no swag! Hmph.
I had a hair appointment this afternoon. Now my hair looks good, and I have no place to go. Old Flame called, and we spent an hour talking about history.
I measured George, the crazy hyacinth yesterday, and it’s now 19" tall, so 7" over the max height. It’s got to stop sometime, doesn’t it? Doesn’t it?
Your guys could give my guys lessons, MetalMouse. It took three of them three full days to put up 12 feet of fence. To be fair, it’s probably harder to hurry when you’re high. Anyway, Taters, I hope your fence guys are like MetalMouse’s.
That reminds me…I walked across the street from a house that had a huge “BEWARE OF DOG” sign on their fence. As I watched, a dog shot out from the big gap under the gate and took off down the alley. He looked very pleased with himself.
Well, aren’t YOU the saucy lad? Nicely done, doggio, nicely done.
Fingers are crossed for everyone experiencing storms. I hope your hatches stay battened.
red, that was a very satisfying story. I like to imagine the look on the a$$hole’s face when he realized he was busted.
Coppertone, that was one kind bus driver. I’m sure he thinks you’re pretty nice, too.
A good night to all. Been pretty much a damp squib as far as the weather, had a little thunder and some rain on and off, but nothing resembling the major storm that had been predicted. Guess safe rather than sorry applies, but still feels like a wasted evening. Did get some soccer stuff done for my teams and the dishes are washed and put away, so that much has been accomplished.
red, nice piece of Karma. people who speed though school zones should be whacked upside the head with a boxing glove (with Mike Tyson’s fist in it).
Coppertone, glad you could recover your bag, now if you could find the key for my lock…
JtC, it’ll be a little time for everyone to recover from the loss; hope the new blue phone works well.
Cat Glove, sounds like it was a very busy day. Hope Hubs appreciates all that you are doing for him. Glad you are getting some relax time soon, you were on a burnout path there.
nellie, yay! for the positive dentist trip.
After 9pm here and I’m starting to wear out, so bedtime will be sooner rather than later. catch y’all tomorrow.
Sleepy. Love to you all! (This just means I haven’t retained enough to make separate comments for everyone.). Wait a minute, it does mean that I love you all as well.
We’ve survived at least the first round of the storm. I don’t know for sure, but there may be a second. Our tornado sirens went off, but there were no actual tornadoes in our city. My mom, Annie, and I hunkered down in basically the front foyer area. She and I aren’t very good with stairs and the basement is CREEPY, so, we pick the place with the least glass on the first floor. Annie was not amused.
I did have one interesting discovery, though. I’ve been campaigning for a new couch because ours is horrid. While we were in the foyer area I was sitting in a little wooden loveseat-ish thing. It would be perfect for Annie and I to sit in when I’m working on my iPad. Then, if I’m just relaxing, we can move back to the couch. That way no one has to spend any money on a couch right now. And, theoretically, my posture will be better as I sit up and use MusicMan’s laptop desk instead of just using a little cheesy lap desk.
Before I had this idea, I did find my dream chair. It wouldn’t however, be very practical for Annie and I both to sit on. Still, [it is quite lovely.][It is quite lovely.](BELLEZE Modern Gothic Style Velvet Accent Chair, Elegant Seating with High Back & Button Details, Contemporary Design for Living Room, Bedroom, Fireplace - Tufted (Purple) https://a.co/d/7J16hNc)(BELLEZE Modern Gothic Style Velvet Accent Chair, Elegant Seating with High Back & Button Details, Contemporary Design for Living Room, Bedroom, Fireplace - Tufted (Purple) https://a.co/d/7J16hNc)
I don’t know, link madness up there. Whatever. You have two opportunities to see the super cool chair now!
I didn’t have to get up early today, so of course I woke up at 530.
I went back to bed at 7 and slept until 11.
It’s been raining all day, and I think it’s supposed to rain for the next few days.
The GR have been getting the zoomies.
They were playing outside during a dry bit and Misiu bursts through the doggie door and races around the house and plows back through it out to play with Rayleigh.
I think I am getting sick now. I hope not, I just can’t deal.
I’m staying up tonight, my son is supposed to get out of irk around 1230.
That is not even worth going in.
On the minus side, traffic was exceptionally heavy when I went out erranding.
On the plus side, Winco had lime sherbet, so of course some of that jumped into my cart, and I now have a bowl of it next to me. The cats are spending much time under the bed the last few days, and Buddy’s a grump. I’m sure they didn’t like the flea pills they were dosed with, but I would think they’d hate having fleas even more.
