Acck, and ick!
I thought for a second you were going “ack! ick!” at the big dog beds.
I’ve pivoted from sushi, to a patty melt with kettle chips. Not much more different from one to t’other than that.
Guaranteed that at some point - way later than either Wally or Meijer are open - imma want me some damn fish, either smoked salmon or raw/seared tuna.
Git yer mind outta the gutter
Our daughter uses Califia Farms Extra Creamy Oat Milk although I cross out the word ‘milk’ and write Beverage.
just nice to get a hug from you, here’s a back.
and from you as well dicey; here’s one back
Pizza, salad and coke hit the spot (not Spot )
Going to sloth for rest of evening… The dishes and laundry will still be there tomorrow.
Wait a minute. Your Wally World and Meijer stores close?
Gentle hugs to the injured among us.
Evening all. Did get my swimming in, then watched soccer on the TV and followed up by refereeing it for some U10 girls. Now inside and awaiting the 70% chance of storms tonight and tomorrow morning, we’ll see if we beat the odds. Have Cheeburgered my way through dinner and am now relaxing.
doggio, not sure which is madder, your feline or your workplace. At least the overtime will be nice come paycheck day.
Use to have a big button saying that.
rocky, good news on the glasses. Right now I have five pair in the house, two new, one just replaced (I use them while in the pool) and two old ones I’ll donate at Wal-Mart one of these days when I remember them at the same time I’m going shopping.
Nettie, it’s been a nagging problem since the work got done a couple months ago, the leak detector folks then said it was too small to find, so I have been manually turning it on and off when needed (hey, some exercise!). Might be getting to a point that spending $350 for another detection run may be in the cards. Or might wait until after my vacation and the 4th of July so I know that I’ll be around for awhile.
Dicey, don’t think I’ve ever had Bird’s Custard, may have to look into that…
FCM, fingers crossed for Daughter. Might not be what she planned on, but just might be what she needs.
Oopsie, firing someone is tough; I never was in a position to have to do that, which is probably good since I’d be no good at it. And yeah, when you multi-task, it feel like you’re working so much harder even if it’s the same amount of time. And best wishes to Bailey and the new bed.
Cat Glove, sounds like things are promising for Hubs. And no pulled pork at a “southern’ restaurant?” The Very Idea!!
Van Go, ick! Don’t think I’ve ever been ticked, but hope you are and stay well.
Shoe, I do not eat fish (made Lent rather awkward when I was a practicing Cat-Lick), but hope the craving isn’t too bad.
OK, onward into the evening.
Huge success for my day. Was able to get the truck earlier than expected, get my apartment keys easier than expected, and loading the truck took me 3-1/2 hours, not the 6 I’d budgeted. Truck & Box Tetris went very well. So I got done early and had time to load my cleaning stuff and shelving into the car, take it to the apartment, and get it all assembled and emplaced.
Of course UPS had lost or destroyed one of my shelving units and somehow it’s in orbit between Amazon in Georgia and UPS in New Jersey. New Jersey is not really on the way between GA & FL, but sometimes air freight is far from straight. The tracking trail has it going from GA to NJ twice, but not the other way at all. Color me, or it, confused.
I’m inhaling a well-deserved prime rib, loaded baked N.O.T., Caesar salad, and Mojito right now. Then a couple of admin stops on the way to Mikey’s for a well deserved rest, then up early & kill it tomorrow.
I read everything but don’t have time to say much. But I will say this.
I had the same thought. Turns out there are special pillow sets for just your misconstrued purpose. Which set came immediately to my mind when I read Wetone’s explanation.
Several firm wedge shaped thingies of a size and angle to orient everyone and everything just right. With some mix and match features for variety. Just sayin’.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions, et N.O.L., napped, and day drank. Then I went to book study which was lively and fun. Now I am gettin’ ready for sleepy time.
MOOOOOOM FWIW Sonny’s is still good, but it’s gone downhill from what it used to be. Maybe it’s just the one in these parts. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages are crossed for daughter.
Coppertone At first I read that your friend got you bitcoin for your hair. I was awfully confused there for a second or two.
Shoe I am all “caint figger this consarned new fangled phone and all its doodads out to save my life” each time I get a new one. You will eventually. Possibly just before you have to get another consarned new fangled phone.
Nettie but, it’s that windowsill, the best windowsill!
Oopsie firin’ somebody is not fun, but glad you realize how necessary this was. Here’s hopin’ the position is filled by someone very competent soonest.
Your Wally World and Meijer stores close?
IKR?
For my lil’ hood, locally it’s Meijer at midnight, Wally at 11 p.m.
For those of us who get outta work at anywhere between 11:45 pm - 2 a.m. it’s a bit … inconvenient.
This change is rather recent, invoked since the world ended. Before that, they both apparently worked just fine, late at night. 24 hrs. All that capitalist nonsense.
Since the world ended my arrival in Mitten State, everything went to hell. You can’t even get Taco Hell after 2 or 3, sometimes 1 a.m. if they’re really feelin’ the hurt.
Git yer mind outta the gutter
NEVAHHHHH!!!
“caint figger this consarned new fangled phone and all its doodads out to save my life”
I hate you so hard right now.
Mostly b.c wow, way to nail it.
Getting those May showers and the tornado siren just went off. Need to be checking that out.
Up from naptime. I’m having a martini. Spot is less insane after our nap.
he and Allie are now squabbling over windowsill space. In a room with two windows.
“I don’t want a window, I want that window”
we’re going straight to the Jersey shore for two nights.
Reminds me of the old joke: “First Prize is a week in New York City. Second Prize is 2 weeks in NYC. Third prize is a week in Jersey.” But enjoy.
You may be able to replace the switch if you are attached to the lamp. I’ve done that with vintage lamps.
Nah, it’s just a really old $10 lamp.
And no pulled pork at a “southern’ restaurant?” The Very Idea!!
To be fair, the very best pulled pork is from a restaurant in a cinder block building that’s only open Monday, Thursday, Friday.
The tracking trail has it going from GA to NJ twice, but not the other way at all. Color me, or it, confused.
Well, if it got wrecked(and with the lack of packaging some people put on shelving units, I wouldn’t be surprised), and the damaged clerk didn’t cover up all the old labels, it might bounce back and forth, depending on which label the sorter sees when they sort it.
And looks like the worst weather stayed just north of me. So should be back with you tomorrow (of course, more bad weather is due about 3am…)
I’ve been itching to walk to Squaxon Park, so I hiked over there today. I’ve made this trek before but couldn’t do it last summer because of the knee. I thought it was about three miles away. It turned out to be almost five. Oops. My knee is mad at me, but it better learn to like this because I’m not letting it rule the roost. One of my socks kept slipping off my heel, so now I have an abrasion and a big ol’ blister. I’m really happy I went, though. It was a gorgeous day and a wonderful walk. I’m now sitting with my feet up and a medicinal mini-martini at hand.
Oh, and the flowers blooming around these parts are dogwood–so pretty!–in pink and white, rhododendrons (state flower) in all colors, plus all kinds of plants I don’t know the names of.
My plants are at day camp, aka the balcony. I keep hoping they’ll take inspiration from the big ferns and plants in the woods behind us. I think tomorrow I’ll transplant the flowers into the window box. It’s going to be in the 80s Friday. I don’t like it, but the flowers will.
Here’s hoping…
Fingers are crossed here!
It’s about 85°. MIL is in a sweatshirt, jeans, knee high socks, with an afghan pulled up to her neck. I assume her failing heart is the reason.
I can relate to your frustration. I used to call Mom’s studio apt. at the independent living facility Little Saigon because she kept it so hot in there. I thought it was because oldsters can’t regulate their body temp. I didn’t know it could be a heart issue. TIL…
Oopsie, firing people is always stressful, so I’m glad you’re relieved. And aw, poor Bailey. She’s a lucky dog to have a person who’s as dedicated to her comfort as you.
CatGlove, I’m SO happy for all the good news on hubs! Also, how do you eat only half a sandwich when you’re ravenous? A: You don’t. It sounds like the food and fun were worth the reflux.
VanGo, did you get out the whole tick? I’d be paranoid forever after if I found a tick. I hope you’re tick-free, now and forevermore.
I’ve pivoted from sushi, to a patty melt with kettle chips.
And a very wise pivot it is. What does it say about me that I’m not craving sushi now but am craving a patty melt?
MetalMouse, I really thought your leak days were over. There surely can’t be many more feet of pipes that could be problematic. How long have you lived in that house?
Shoe, you keep that mind right there in the gutter. Some of us live in Guttersville and need someone fluent in Gutter.
(of course, more bad weather is due about 3am…)
Wow, that must prevent normal sleep. I had a nun in grade school who told us that we should pray the Russkies would nuke us at night so we’d die in our sleep. It’s really a miracle our whole generation isn’t twitching with paranoia. Hope you come through OK.
Shoe, you keep that mind right there in the gutter.
Yes, ma’am. Can do.
The Dr was very happy with how Hubs is doing and his lab results and said now he’s graduated from weekly morning appointments to afternoon bi-weekly or even tri-weekly appointments.
This is wonderful news, you must be so happy!
Aack! I just found a tick on my back!
Oh, geeze louise. ICKICKICK!!!
I hope you don’t get Lyme disease, the whole thing sounds pretty not so much fun.
Shoe I am all “caint figger this consarned new fangled phone and all its doodads out to save my life” each time I get a new one. You will eventually.
That’s the way it is, you just finish teaching your phone what you want, you have to get a new one.
And looks like the worst weather stayed just north of me.
I’m glad you didn’t get tornadoed, things have been sounding way too exciting out there for my taste.
It has been very windy out this way and it was cold when I went to get surplus produce (a big bag of sweet potatoes, some really big white onions, 2 big tubs of cherry tomatoes, english muffins and rye bread, and a pork loin roast. Thank goodness he likes my recipe, I had already started thawing out the last surplus one.
I’m really happy I went, though. It was a gorgeous day and a wonderful walk.
That really is the most important part!
I’m thinking we are going to need a dogwood in our front yard. We are also going to need a flowering bush or shrub, but I’ve agreed that we don’t need more than that because of the trees all around. There were some serious negotiations about that due to Hub’s aversion to things growing in our yard.
VanGo, did you get out the whole tick? I’d be paranoid forever after if I found a tick. I hope you’re tick-free, now and forevermore.
I would freak out so much that it would take an ER doctor to be sure nothing was left under my skin. Shudders.
Pilot, I’m glad your move is going smoothly. Getting the keys early is super cool!
We got the final homeowners insurance quote today, so that is another box checked.
NF and her hubs wanted to take us to lunch at a new BBQ place so I brought my surplus surplus produce with us so NF could take what she wanted. I figured she would want some of the multi-colored cherry tomatoes but not a whole tub, so I brought a container so she could take what she wanted and gave the rest to Chicken Guy.
We went to the vet and got GG’s drugs, then went to the hardware store in town for packing tape and super glue (neither of which will be used on the cat). We stopped at the library on the way home and gave them what was left in our box and took the tomatoes and sweet potatoes to trade for a couple of cartons of multi sized eggs.
Now that I’m done with my fragile stuff, I’m moving on to my closet. That is going to be hard because I have things that Mom gave me that I can’t wear anymore and I just can’t justify dragging them across the country to hang in a closet until I die.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.I wonder if TVCTPMO has used up its spoons for the week?
I’m now sitting with my feet up and a medicinal mini-martini at hand.
Yay walks and martinis. Boot foot blisters.
And looks like the worst weather stayed just north of me.
Glad you didn’t need the ruby slippers.
That is going to be hard because I have things that Mom gave me that I can’t wear anymore and I just can’t justify dragging them across the country to hang in a closet until I die.
Maybe pick one that reminds you most of the good times with Mom?
Nettie but, it’s that windowsill, the best windowsill!
That particular windowsill is large enough for two cats. I’m sure Buddy would share, but a certain Princess Bratty Siamese isn’t having it, evidently.
Dicey, don’t think I’ve ever had Bird’s Custard, may have to look into that…
It’s a powdered custard mix which doesn’t contain eggs. I buy it for my Nanimo bar recipe, but I don’t need much. My current container is 2 years past the due date. Tastes fine, but I thought I’d use it for it’s original purpose. If I was in the U.S., I would probably just get instant pudding mix or pudding cups. Neither are available here and I bought the Bird’s custard mix from a specialty import store.
Here’s hoping…
Crossing fingers and toes.
I booked a beach-adjacent 2BR on Airbnb.
Sounds like you’re due a mini-vacation. Enjoy!
She also said that the next appt can be a video appt so we don’t have to go all the way down there.
Canceling appointments because they are no longer needed AND switching to video! That’s fantastic news.
I just found a tick on my back!
Is it early for ticks where you are? Our season started 2 months early. I should remember to ask the doctor about vaccination against tick borne meningitis. Is there a vaccination against Lyme disease?
Cat Glove, I was wondering what to do on Saturday for lunch. I think I’m going to try the pulled pork from the restaurant in my town. They are now open for lunch on Saturdays. It’ll be interesting to see their interpretation.
Third prize is a week in Jersey.”
When I was little, I said I would never live in New Jersey. I lived there for 8 years, and it wasn’t that bad. So never say never.
I’m really happy I went, though. It was a gorgeous day and a wonderful walk.
That’s a really cute park. I’m glad they renamed it - the new name is just fun to say! Hope your heel heals fast.
That’s the way it is, you just finish teaching your phone what you want, you have to get a new one.
Yesterday the apprentice asked me how to do something in OneNote, because he saw I had the meeting information in the notes I was taking. Some things are really not obvious, and it really helps to have someone else who has already gone through the learning curve.
My parents made the wise decision to get the same type of phone, so they can help each other deal with the learning curve. And as they both learn differently, they do pretty well.
We are also going to need a flowering bush or shrub, but I’ve agreed that we don’t need more than that because of the trees all around.
Redbud? One of my favorite trees.
HINTON, W.Va. — Blossoming across the eastern U.S. in spring, redbud trees were notably important during the settlement of the Appalachian Mountains, where they indicated the presence of some of the best soil for farming. Today, the pink-blooming...
Today’s Ascension, so that means that they local club will set off the cannon and a brass band will make some noise. And it also means that both today and tomorrow are holidays!
Got more rain yesterday, but today’s supposed to be dry. So far it’s not very warm. Probably will go for a walk later. For now, just lazing on the couch.
Lunch will be chili. And I’m considering to put my portion on top of a piece of toast. Worked well with the pot pie. I like toast.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 20c/69f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a decent fucking day outside. Have some fucking Toblerone.” I’m not sure why a nice day requires Toblerone, but I haven’t got any in the house so I won’t be having any.
Cat Glove brilliant news for you and Hubs!
VanGo ick!! I hope you managed to get all of the tick removed and there are no lasting problems.
Dicey yay for holidays! I booked myself a day off for today so I’m also having a mini-holiday although I do have to get up stupidly early for campus tomorrow but it’s only one day this week, and it’ll be Friday so I think I can live with that.
Oopsie firing someone is never fun, and of course they just pack up and leave straight away so you don’t get that handover period. Sounds like you are more than due a mini-vacation after all the work you’ve had to put in.
Pilot glad the move is going smoothly and you got stuff early too, always a bonus!
Today is almost entirely my own for whatever I want to do. We went out to see a couple of bands last night at a venue about half an hour from home, and I decided to book today off work so that I didn’t have to get up early. Usually I’m awake around 5.30am and out of the house an hour later to trek to campus, and I decided it really wasn’t worth the hassle today. Also, didn’t want to feel like I’d got to rush off at the end of the gig either which was a good plan since I got to hang around and chat with both bands.
It was pretty quiet for a weeknight, which was expected. Ticket sales had been low, and the gig hung in the balance for a while until they got enough advanced sales to guarantee it went ahead. Still not that many people there, but those of us who made it got an excellent night of music. I came home with a t-shirt and a CD so definitely a good night all round.
I had offered to take 'im indoors to the station this morning as he’s off to Scotland to visit family, and I had to plan around a delivery of cheese but (wonder of wonders!) the cheese has already arrived! That means I can take him to his train, go and buy cat litter, and go to the gym while I’m out and about. After that, I’ll be home for late lunch, and the rest of the day will be potentially reserved for some slothage.
Oopsie: Your absence had been conspicuous. And a tad worrisome.
I’m real glad you’re back and reading your post is just a cavalcade of you wiping out nasty problems that had been blocking and vexing you for months. Yes, each change is effort, but each change is for the better.
No more employee who caused you more work than they produced. No more volunteer work that was more drain than reward. No more failing with Bailey, instead a new plan that will work, and best all 2 nights at da shaw wit ya cuzin.
You will be a very much happier puppy with all those new things settled. Hooray. You go girl!!
I’ve done some kind of volunteer work about half my adult years. In each case the old saying about boats applies: “The two happiest days as a volunteer are the day you start, and the day you quit.”
I too am enjoying a big helping of “out with the blocking; in with the progress” right now. And the feeling is incredible. There’s plenty more of that for you too. Enjoy! You certainly deserve it.
