G’morning all, and Happy Father’s Day to the dads, granddads, like-dads and furbaby dads out there! You deserve a day of rest and relaxation!
I’ve been reading but trying to go back among ALL of these posts and make lots of replies is not something I have the brain power to do right now. I’m still in the middle of Con brain fog. I do have a few replies though before getting into everything that’s gone on here.
First, everyone that complimented me on the picture of me in my new dress: Thanks! I think it’s become my new favorite dress. I may take Monday morning to recolor my hair since I don’t have a game until 1900. It should be a shimmery teal that will go really well with the dress.
None of us NEED the number of pretty math rocks that we buy. That doesn’t stop any of us from buying them! If you’re ever interested in Diceless role-playing, that’s the Con I’m at now. It’s virtual every year and free, so it’s a great way to dive in and have fun.
On the note of playing, I found out one of my friends that I used to game with is moving back to the area in August so I may actually be able to have a live gaming group again!
metal mouse, I didn’t quite get into Amy’s head like I wanted to, but she was still a lot of fun to play and very useful. I was the only American player amongst a bunch of Europeans but they didn’t hold that against me. Two bits of fun/interest: Me, an American who couldn’t pull off a Scottish accent with a tutor, was playing a Scot. The Scot in the group was playing the only American PC. That American was Canton Delaware III, who was the only one that Amy recognized among all the companions that were there. He came in with Benton and when Amy went over to talk with him, she asked if Benton was Canton’s husband or “friend”. Both were very nonplussed. It was great!
Also, I’m with Boo, metal mouse. Dressing appropriately is rarely fun and I highly discourage it!
Thanks, JtC. I’m happier than I’ve been in a few months, and feeling good enough to actually run a couple more games next year. gulp
I love it! I should do that with the kids. CtE would get it and either respond accordingly or give me “the look”, depending on the day. BtY would ignore me as much as I suspect Gordie did you.
Thanks, doggio, sari, VanGo and BooFae!
Friday was Hubby’s 49th birthday. Mostly, I’ve given him permission for his birthday. He’s gotten really heavily back into MTG and found an app that does give aways and auctions for cards/packs/etc. I’ve told him he’s free to buy whatever he wants, so we’ve been having packages of cards showing up regularly for the last week. I also bought him a similar set of magnets to what I’d bought for BtY after he expressed interest in them. They showed up yesterday, and he loved them. So he’s had a good Birthday and Father’s Day. Next week, I’m going to make a cake for him to celebrate.
Last night I ran my second game based on the Leverage TV series. I had one person that was a repeat player from last year, and one person that the organizer asked if I could take on last minute because his game got cancelled so I had to help him pull together a character. Most of my players were familiar with Leverage and with the system I was running it in (a homebrew that a friend of mine created), but even those who weren’t caught up quickly.
It went better than I could have ever imagined! I actually had planned a bit more for this one than for the earlier one in the Con, and that could have been some of it. But some of it was just the energy between my players and I. For once, I didn’t feel like a fraud, which has been my GMing experience up to this point. I was able to think on my feet, move the plot to where the players wanted to go, and introduce them to the real life small town that I grew up in, to the point where I had several of my players feeding me information about the town that I haven’t been to in probably 10, 15 years. Not much changes in that town, and I did take some liberties but it all WORKED and that was the best. Even though it ended at midnight for me, I was stoked through the whole thing and even had a bit of trouble falling asleep. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about waking up Hubby - he slept in the living room because he had a game at 0400 and didn’t want to wake me when his alarm went off at 0300. I’m looking forward to running again next year, and this second group even wants to come back as a team to run a second half of the plot I’d set up. If you couldn’t tell, I’m STILL hyped about it all.
Today, I have two games in which I didn’t create the characters for. One is a full on pregen. The other is generated by the GM based on some info I gave him about the character. It should be a lot of fun either way. Tomorrow is the last day of the Con and I actually don’t have one in the early slot (though Hubby does) so I’m going to try to focus on other happy-making things.
The kids have been pretty good while Hubby and I have been occupied. When we’ve asked BtY to empty the dishwasher and CtE to fill it, they’ve done so without fighting too hard. BtY has been spending a lot of time outside, wandering around the apartment complex with his headphones on, finding sticks to play with. CtE has been staying in their room quite a bit, playing D&D and video games with their friends. I feel a little bad because they’ve been wanting to go out and walk with me, but with everything going on with the Con, I just haven’t had the energy. Tomorrow, hopefully, I’ll be up for a walk since we have more time.
So those are the high points from my little speck on the earth. Hope everyone has a fantastic day/night/whatever and I’ll see you all in the next MMP!
