You don’t suppose she’s disagreeable because she knows there are other cats in the house and she can’t hang with them? Or she can’t chase them out?
Today we’re, theoretically, going to finish the HVAC installation at Daughter’s. With a stop at Lowe’s on the way, of course. It’s in the 40s this morning and may hit low 70s later - a good day for outdoor labor. Meanwhile, I started my day by loading and running the dishwasher. I should have done it last night, but the lazies took hold.
And, of course, there was the very very weird dream that included, among other things, me getting a ride in a fighter jet that not only held 2 crew members, but also had a kitchen and a sofa aboard, and there were 2 other passengers besides the pilot and me. (Bigger on the inside, apparently.) And at some point, the pilot left, but not before programming the plane to fly a while, then go down a street and land for a parade. At that point, the pilot came back, and his boss (not in the military) came back to yell at him. And somewhere in there, I had Ziva and had to feed her. Oh, and the pilot was hitting on me. I dunno.
When I hear FCD up and about, I’ll get in line for the shower and prepare for our labors. It shouldn’t take long, but I didn’t factor in half a dozen trips to Lowe’s for items forgotten… because that’s how it goes.
She’s spent all her life as the only cat in someone’s life so she’s definitely not used to sharing I’ve tried both options - she’s spending her time in the corner of a room, so at night and when I’m out the door is pulled closed but not completely shut. When I’m here, I leave the door open partly for air and light!
She knows there are other cats in the house, she’s seen them and growled at them for coming too close to her although they’ve not been tempted to get very close. She’s had plenty of opportunity to leave the room if she wanted to, but she stays in the same corner. She’s loafing, so I don’t think she’s scared of me or the girlies, but she’s also not willing to come out of her corner or be particularly friendly. I’m still working on that bit!
Good morning, everyone! I am feeling much better today. Thanks for all the good wishes!
BooFae and Swampy, if you hadn’t heard, I’ve got some extra pasta available here that I’d be happy to share.*
VanGo, good luck!!
MusicMan is still sleeping which is good. I’m glad he’s getting the rest that he needs. My mom, Annie, and I are all breakfasted and chilling out for now.
*As mentioned on fb, I bought a quantity of two packages of wide egg noodles and didn’t realize that I was buying a multipack. Now I have 12 bags of noodles!
Sometimes duct tape will pull small splinters out.
Because you are too tired to relax properly and it is hard to sleep when your brain is still spinning at top speed.
I’ve looked at that bridge before. Bridges are very cool bits of man-work and the architecture is sometimes just amazing. There’s a pedestrian suspension bridge across the river down the road a bit. It looks like it came straight out of a movie with the rusty cables and wood planks for steps. It is also chained closed but because I look at it every time we go by, I can tell that some people still use it.
It would take a serious, life threatening event to convince me to even take one step off the road towards the bridge. It would have to be big, fire or flooding wouldn’t be enough.
Everyone I’ve taken has always raved about the experience, I’m glad you enjoyed yourself as well. I’ve always admired their parking lot, it is nice and clean and in good repair. I think they refresh the lines every year, too.
Nothing bad has happened to her there, why risk coming out and having something bad happen somewhere else?
I sure do hope he gets next Sat. off. He needs to have time to do more than rest his body.
So I’m up early for me. My hip is still achy from the long drive yesterday and Jolene insisted on sleeping across my leg so I couldn’t move it. I’ll be heading to the gym in a few minutes, I needed to get myself around some coffee first.
I’m still not really swimming, I don’t want to put that much stress on my ankle. I kinda move my arms in big circles and pull myself through the water that way with my feet kinda waving up and down behind me. It moves me well enough that I’m still using the lap lanes without getting side-eyed by staff and it makes me feel like I’m actually doing something good for my body. I’m really hoping that my ortho guy says I can stop wearing boot and/or brace. Just one would be enough to make me really happy, but it has been almost 6 weeks and I’ve been really good, so I think I deserve to lose them both.
I got an ad (I wonder why ) for the Botanical Garden. Good thing I have enough of my own garden to keep me busy. Some day I might pull the trigger, but only after the ones in the queue are done. And I’m leaning towards holiday Lego - I can put them on top of the display case where I put other holiday decorations.
Cut suitcase.
Wow, that’s fast. Glad they’re able to get you scheduled quickly.
My mom did that when I was still at home. Now they have a small compost bin with a charcoal filter in the lid as the compost gets picked up separately from the trash. Plus milk rarely comes in cartons.
Is this similar to the sedation for a colonoscopy? (Glad to see you sharing your expert knowledge, and your own recent experience.) And now that I have read further, it seems that that part is the same. No numbing eye drops for the colonoscopy though.
Mom and Metal_mouse, we decided for the cruise that leaves from Amsterdam in August 2026. Reading about the challenges to get from the cruise terminal to the airport, I think we made the right decision for my parents. And they’ve never been to Amsterdam, so we’ll spend a few days there before the cruise.
Crossing fingers, legs, etc. that this works. Nice of the manager to let you put up a flyer.
As a person in their 50s, yes, the medical stuff starts piling up. Hope the PT helps your back - pain is exhausting.
I was very appreciative of the grab bars when we were on our latest cruise. There was only a few hours of a rocking and a rolling, and the grab bars made showering a possibility.
That’s adorable. I like the idea of leaving little surprises for the next owner. We just left the vacuum cleaner (which was agreed).
Glad that the nausea’s gone. I’d rather be sneezing my head off than having even a bit of nausea.
So sorry for your friend’s grandson. Way too young.
After reading what was done to you as a child, I don’t blame your hind-brain. Tell the medical team, so they can give you something extra if necessary.
Now I’ve got the Batman theme in my head.
I am so impressed at those who can sing at the funeral of a loved one. Sounds like a lovely service.
Sorry, I laughed. A number of my relatives (including my parents) have done that.
You mean, they make the caramel popcorn there? Sheesh, sometimes I miss U.S. grocery stores.
Yesterday we took out the recycling (cans and glass), went to the restaurant store (bought more little glass bowls which are marked for mise en place, but get used for snacks), shoe store (hubby got two pairs), three other stores where we didn’t buy anything, Japanese food for lunch and then home for Doctor Who.
So far today we did vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen, plus the washer’s on the third load of laundry. Since the kitchen was clean, I decided to make cookie dought (still need to bake them), biscuits and will also make blueberry cake again. I make about 3-4 different snack cakes, which hubby eats for breakfast. Better than pop-tarts (I think ), but takes a bit more effort. Now that I’ve caught up, I need to go find the stuff to patch the wall. I think there’s a hole where ants are coming in. They are mostly in the bathroom - strange ants.
And then clean up the kitchen and make another mess. I guess that’s what the kitchen’s for, right?
This reminded me that @JaneDoe42 should know the cataract surgeon might prohibit swimming for a period of time after each eye is done, so there may be another period of limitation on her pool time-but it will be much, much shorter, like a few days or a week for swimming or a pool. Just to keep communal germs, etc and strong chemicals away from the eye and tiny surgical incision. I could shower the next day. I remember there was a weight limit on what I could pick up, either 8 lbs (milk jug) or 25 lbs (had to put off picking up beloved grand son) but that was just for 24 hours. So our JtC might have to have hubby do the Jolene and GG picking up for 24 hours. Every surgeon will have slightly different limits but JtC might have a week of no swimming after each eye and hubs will have to pick up his own damn motorcycle for a week.
Can’t remember if I mentioned the rigid eye shield over the operated eye overnight after surgery, which you get to take off the next morning and can then shower or wash your face. Then you only have to wear the eye shield at night for a week. To protect your eye from you rubbing your eye in your sleep or a husband rolling over and whacking your eye in his sleep. This one step is pretty important to follow for the week but it’s only at night. They even sent me home with a couple of little rolls of super gentle surgical tape to use.
In the three times I had the anesthesia done since the 14th of January, yes, exactly like colonoscopy sedation. The only needle poke is the little IV in your hand.
Yep, JtC should be sure to mention that to the team, that she has had a traumatic experience related to eye surgical procedures so a little something more might be needed to induce and maintain relaxation and comfort. Mention it in the pre-surgery interview and first thing when she meets the anesthetist just before the procedure each time. My nurse anesthetist was happy to give me a little squirt extra of Versed and earlier in the process to ease my PTSD. They all want it to be a comfortable experience for you, not one you have to guts your way through. The last thing they want to do is re-traumatize you 2 weeks before you’re gonna have to do it again. Just ask and remind them every time, pre-surgery the week before and when you first see the anesthetist.
Right! No numbing drops for da colonoscopy.
I can’t remember if I mentioned that the numbing drops happen twice, apart 20 minutes apart, pre-surgery, before they roll you into the OR. The first set might have stung a little but but only for a few seconds and they make your vision blurry but by then they’ve already taken away your eyeglasses so it’d be blurry anyway. The second set 20 minutes later I don’t remember being stingy at all.
Later today I’ll try to remember to post about the two other things about cataract surgery I should have mentioned to @JaneDoe42 and I think @FairyChatMom. Or maybe it’s three things. Nothing scary or icky, just details. You all remind me if I forget. I should have the time this afternoon while hanging out with my 3 yo grandson up his room while he supposedly naps.
And a good Sunday morning to all. Have obtained the Sunday NY Times for my week’s reading pleasure and will probably gym this afternoon and mow the lawn this evening, weather permitting. Looks pretty nice outside now, but like most places I’ve been the old adage “if you don’t like the weather, just wait 15 minutes” applies.
FCM. think I’ve said it before, I envy your (and other Mumpers) ability to remember dreams like that; I very rarely do.
boo fae, good luck with Muffin, but I concur she will be happier eventually in a 1-cat house.
Sticky Buns, glad to hear your feeling better. And I foresee lots of pasta dishes in your future, thanks to the noodle incident…
Zombie Horde? Godzilla?
JtC, don’t worry about your style (I am the poorest backstroker you’ll ever see), just as long as your beating the water into submission and moving along. Finger crossed the ortho people agree with you.
Be sure you take them here: https://sexmuseumamsterdam.nl/ (probably NSFW). Seriously, Amsterdam (and all of Holland) is nice to visit, but expensive.
I laughed out loud at that one, since I am old enough to understand the reference…
OK, need to do some internetting and then decide between Logan’s and Red Robin for the Big Sunday Meal. Have a good one all.
Dumped the purring, melted Siamese off my lap to go make my life-giving second o’ morning joe. She came back of course is now purring again, standing on my lap so she can lick my chin. Make drinking hot tricky.
Then, must purtify a laswampy and head over for my sacred Sunday with the grandkidlets, through their bedtimes, so kid wrangling for just about 12 hours, give or take.
If the weather holds I think the plan involves play, cuddle new baby, play, eat lunch, nap time with the three yo after lunch (no actually napping will occur, just quiet time in his room with me, watching kid stuff on YouTube on my phone), then more play. The parental units are hoping to do lots of backyard flower and vegetable planting with the kids during the play time if it doesn’t rain. It’s looking gray and gloomy right now so who knows if much will get planted today. Any earthworms turned up will get served to a mother bird who has made a nest on top of a light fixture on their front porch, so that’ll be fun at least even if seeds don’t make it into the ground today.
Today is st Thomas Sunday. That means orthodox types will flock to cemeteries to picnic with the departed and priests will circle around blessing graves. A mix of sacred and tailgate. Liturgy is usually scheduled as early as possible as the priest is pulled all over the cemetery and sometimes has to fit in 2 cemeteries.
My office has a charity event at 1pm and logistics would be tight so I decided to skip the very early liturgy and lean on the charity for deheathanization.
Then the condo called at 9am, would I be able to clear out the community room for a party. That’ll teach me to skip church! 45 minutes of chair stacking, table moving, and item hiding.
I am now having ice cream for breakfast.
The building had quite the crazy weekend schedule going, with furniture moving all over. Final Friday building party, earth day Saturday, and private party on Sunday.
Jtc, buying geese just maybe a working threat! I recently saw a video where a goose landed in a tiger enclosure. The tiger ran from the goose!

Suddenly, wind chill factors are back in my awareness: after yesterday’s storms the temp dropped considerably, and it got very windy. The gusts (up to 30 mph) are continuing today: the current 53°F feels more like 48. At least it isn’t cloudy! Things will warm up again tomorrow – sunny with a high of 75 – and high temps return to the low 80s for the rest of the week. Today will be a weird “more like early March than late April” day, though.
I’m looking forward to this afternoon’s lunch and show with my friend. She just offered to pick me up: we live close to each other and she drives a very nice sportscar, so I was happy to agree! I do need to get some groceries after the show, but the store is near home so I’ll just hop from her car to mine after she drops me off.
I rented Legally Blonde yesterday, and I’m glad I’ve reminded myself of the major plot points and events. I’d watched it once before, a long time ago. Not a favorite movie, and the musical isn’t a show I would have chosen on my own, but my friend helped work on the sets and invited me. I’m happy enough to check it out. And I’m curious about the production quality, because I might want to get on their list for audition notices. I haven’t done a show since college, but I was heavy into theater (especially musical theater) for most of my school years and I kind of miss it. The right show could be a good creative outlet; it would also depend on the rehearsal schedule, etc. Knowing about the auditions is a critical first step.
I should have included a link in my post! Here’s what I ordered. There are several size/weight/color combos: I went with light grey, 36" x 48", and 3 lbs (for $23).
(This and the anxiety bookshelf are supposed to be delivered today: I hope they shipped in the same box, so the bookshelf won’t blow away if it arrives while I’m out!)
I’ve had Maus I for a while, but haven’t gotten Maus II yet.
There’s no “supposed to.” If I can read the spines, I’m sure I’ll play with shelving them in alphabetical order – by both title and author – as well as by color and other attributes.
That is awesome. I’ve long planned to leave a note/tips for whoever rents this place next, but now I’m also gonna think about hiding a Lego minifig or two!
One of us! One of us!
Indeed. I sang at both grandmother’s funerals and one uncle’s funeral, and those were difficult enough: there was no way I would have been able to sing at my mom’s funerals (we had one in MD for her local friends and one in NJ for family). Even my father, who is usually the organist at all family funerals and had been divorced from Mom for 30 years, opted out of those.
I can’t imagine losing a child, though. Joe’s performance was fitting, yes, but quite impressive.
I also sang at a friend’s wedding Mass (the processional “Ave Maria”), which was hard but for a different reason.
This made me laugh out loud!
I indulge in year-round holiday Lego collecting: I only have to figure out how to display them for a month each year, they’re a little cheaper off-season, and last year’s small Lego-centric display made me happy. I have those sets bagged and stored for reassembly this November, and so far I have 4 still-in-boxes sets to also put together. I’ll start getting very happy around Halloween!
A few years ago I rearranged my home office, and thought I was going to get rid of my bookcase so I donated most of my books: I kept a very few, and Maus I is among them.
(These are just the books in my office; I have more in the living room.)
Last night’s concert was a trio headed by Tyshawn Sorey, a Pulitzer-winning jazz musician, who had a pianist and a bass player with him. Interesting music, although his drumming overpowered most everything. I prefer percussion to be subtle unless it’s a rock band.
Looks like some rough weather is headed our way tomorrow, with a forecast of heavy rain, hail, t-storms and possible tornadoes. Sheesh!
My living room is a library. 6 bookcases against one wall, 1 British telephone shelf unit with Harry Potter and other British books, 1 shelf unit with to be read, along with 4 baskets of to be read scattered about, and finally 1 float shelf for cookbooks in the kitchen.
