Can you explain to me why it is necessary to use the vein in the hand for an IV?
The reason I ask is, I have no problem with needle sticks most anywhere else on my body. I have great veins, you can nail one with little effort on my arm or elsewhere. But the ones in the hand, they hurt! I always jerk, despite my best efforts, thereby necessitating multiple attempts by staff coupled with, “Oh, please,” narrowed and/or rolled eyes. I feel bad about jerking, but it’s entirely involuntary.
Why not just choose an easier and less painful spot?
I cleaned, I vacuumed, I changed Spot’s litter. Laundry is is the washer, and Southwest quinoa and chorizo is going on the stove.
I dreamed I was late to work because 1. Had to fight off assorted demons and succubi with a push broom. 2. Bank wouldn’t give me my credit card to pay for car repairs. 3. Traffic jam due to a horde of trash pandas looking the Big Yellow Dumpster.
After reading about all the food in this thread, I thought I would post this.
We had ordered a half-shoulder of lamb for Saturday dinner, which I was planning to cook in the slow cooker. However, they didn’t have any, so I took a chunk of beef out of the freezer instead.
The beef wasn’t good enough for roasting, and we often have beef stew, so I wanted something different. My favourite food-porn site (BBC Good Food) came up with a recipe for boeuf bourguignon. I had most of the ingredients, including a bottle of cheap plonk - a whole bottle was needed.
Eight hours later, it was done and delicious. There are at least two more meals left—one in the fridge for Monday and one in the freezer for whenever.
NO idea. I can tell you that the worst part of immediate post-op for my knee was when they had to change out the IV drip. I think they pump saline first to clean the puncture, and that hurts like a bitch.
Good ideas. Not in the sewing basket. Splinters too deep to get with tape yet. I’ll do a soak in epsom salts later, but since I have more mulch to spread, I’ll wait until evening for more removal attempts. I could wear shoes and gloves, but I like to feel the world when I’m gardening. (No rattlers or vipers here, though the neighbor is concerned about the number of garter snakes because they squick out his wife. We, OTOH, would be happy with as many chorus froggies and garter snakes as the yard will support. We have three species of garter snakes in our postage stamp of a yard.)
I have a vague memory that I dreamed … something … about a push broom? I think it was about wanting one for my home.
Which was clearly a manifestation of my anxiety about the state of my house.
So I got my act somewhat together a bit ago, dumped out 90.2% of the household trash (gotta roll that bin out!) and as soon as I take a shower imma do a half-bed change (pillowcases & the against-the-skin blanket).
Changing & replacing the fitted sheet is an enormous PITA here (teensy room, so the bed has to be right up against the wall & the other side has mere inches clearance, so fitted sheet = awkward crawling-while-tugging) and I just don’t feel like all that right now.
Last few days have been exceptionally blurfy, and I’m kinda wrung out, plus I open → close today and there’s only so much metaphorical gas in my body’s tank, yanno?
The blurfy is also why so much … stuff … piled up.
But I can shower pretty quickly, and then I’m not “fighting” the tank for hot water.
That is impressive, both in your ability to support wildlife, and your knowledge of the details!
100% of household trash, thankyouverymuch. Ratties have food & water, tho I need to remember to beg a few rat crackers (baked “dead” dough) tonight.
Also, I let Monkey out while all this was occurring, and he came obediently trotting back in with a friendly meow when called, so guess who just got some squeezy-crack?
Good afternoon all. Decided to go to Red Robin (yum) and as usual when I visit there I overdid it a bit (Monster Burger, 2nd helping of fries (free), salad and a 22oz Coors Light). All was good until I got the bill…with my usual tip, it added up to $34, which is a bit steep for what amounts to a fancy hamburger joint. Could have gone to Logan’s or my steak places and gotten steak along with free rolls/bread and paid no more and probably less than that. So I don’t think I’ll be returning there too soon.
Anyway, will head over to the gym shortly to work off some of those excess calories and process all the protein, and come home for mowage. Up to 72F now, so definitely a good day for it.
BBBoo, enjoy the kid’s day and hope the weather cooperates.
rocky, that’s a custom I was unfamiliar with (picnic with the departed), thanks for the info.
A man after my own heart! (what kind?)
Oopsie, enjoy the show!
Cookie, make sure you batten down the hatches…
2bob, enjoy the beef eatin’.
shoe, hang in there, hopefully work will be light today.
And time to collect the shorts and sock and t-shirt that is my usual wear around the gym and get busy sweating.
I seem to be okay, head wise, thank God.
Church was good, I got a 9 pack of t.p. which will last me 9 days. Puffs, and Dove soap.
I am to return to the foot dr Thurs but may find a different one to help me with my hammertoe ( there are splints) and pincer toenail.
I threw out the steroids.
I think he meant them for my back, which improves slightly every day. He wanted me to get lumbar radiation.
Anyway, tomorrow will be dry and 70+ so my plan is to get groceries and hopefully some library books on order will come in.
MetalMouse, I’m embarrassed to say that I can top that meal price. We just ordered pizza for the three of us. MusicMan wanted a salad and some breadsticks as well. The price for everything was $96 with the tip!!! Let me assure you that won’t be happening again soon.
The only reason that it happened now is because I was exhausted and didn’t want to make dinner or ask MusicMan to do it since he’s been working his behind off today and part of it was helping me. Speaking of, a little piece of me broke today. I have been wanting to get up to the attic to look for clothes stored up there that might fit me. This afternoon he cleared the way through his music room and we both went up. Walking up the attic stairs was terrifying to me. This has only been this way since I started having knee trouble. Anyways, I picked out two totes and one large garbage bag full of clothes and he carried them all down for me as I backed down the stairs.
When I sat down and started looking, I found many potential shirts and such that might fit and even some that might be too big. What I wasn’t expecting to find was one of the shirts from my business which I started over twenty years ago to be in there. Actually, let me say that more clearly. I wasn’t expecting to see one of the shirts with my logo on it and saying “Sticky’s Dad” on it. I had forgotten that this shirt existed and it took me by such surprise. Thank goodness that MusicMan was there as I sat there sobbing while clinging to the shirt.
The best news was that in all the careful climbing up the steep attic stairs with my cane, I had NO pain in my knee. Thank goodness the shot appears to be working!
Here too - I closed most of the windows last night and wore my hoodie outside most of today while we worked at Daughter’s. Just a bit chilly for me.
Back from Daughter’s - almost but not quite done installing the mini-split. FCD was really hurting and he did as much as he could. He’ll go back tomorrow and finish. While he and I were messing with the a/c, Daughter and her spawn were painting 3 of the walls in that room. She’ll do the last wall when the kids are in bed, I guess. The walls are all different colors - she’s using up the leftovers of the paint from her house.
I’m going to call around and get a rough estimate of what it would cost to have the floor done in a cheap vinyl. Right now, it’s just plywood and they don’t want carpet because the kids will be messy. It’s a 12X16 room, no funky corners. I’ll see what our flooring guy has to say and maybe call another. I know peel-n-press tiles will run around $250 for the cheapest ones, but I’m not sure they’d prep the floor properly for installation. Anyway, I’ll ask.
We’re home in chillage mode for now. We went to Olive Garden for lunch. FCD only had salad and he says he’s stuffed. I had soup and salad. Not sure what I’ll do for supper. But till I make a decision, I’ll chill.
He might have said you might have ‘ Lumbar Radiculopathy’ Lumbar Radiculopathy, rather than “he wants you to have lumber radiation”. Those are two very different things. Unless you have cancer confirmed in your lumbar back, radiation isn’t indicated, approved or ever used. Among other things no radiologist or oncologist in charge of the equipment necessary would do anything resembling radiation treatment for minor back pain, short of cancer.
And if he is a foot doctor (podiatrist), he has no business, absolutely no business, treating your back nor should he be prescribing steroids for your back, also out of his area of practice. You should report him to the licensing board of podiatry in Ohio for exceeding his license.
And do take your hammer toe and pincer toenail to a different podiatrist.
Howdy Y’all! I did indeed get to plop in a pew today. Nice to sit with OYKW as we don’t often get to do that. Of course we sat in his pew. I even let him have his aisle seat. After we got Mcfood and et it in da cave. Then nappage and day drinkin’ occurred. Also the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I want ice cream. We have none and I don’t want to go to the sto’. Maybe OYKW will go if I give him sad puppy dawg eyes.
Went to church. The pastor is in Peru, meeting with a mission the Fellowship supports, so we had a pastor from a different church. Afterward, we went to the UPS Store and the ‘Dollar’ store. We got into the Jeep and I suggested we go get beer and oysters. Looked like they were mostly sold out of oysters, so we went for a Mexican lunch. Home now, I’ve applied glue to the pot I broke.
Hubs is doing pretty darn good but I’m only saying that in a whisper because I don’t want to jinx it. Both of the other times when he was doing pretty good, he came down with GvHD that set him pretty far back, particularly when he came down with it on Labor Day and ended up doing poorly through Sept, Oct and Nov. Then he was doing better in Dec & Jan but came down with GvHD again in Feb. But since that only attacked his liver, he was much better by mid March. He started receiving vaccinations post 12 months after transplant in January. He had 7 vaccinations in Jan plus a flu shot; he had 4 bandaids on each arm. In Feb he had 3 more vaccinations. He was supposed to get another vaccination in March but since he was prescribed steroids to combat the GvHD, the Dr said that the remaining vaccinations will be postponed until he is off the steroids and they are out of his system. He took the last steroid this past Tuesday. He also took his last Ursodiol since the last appointment. We have a zoom appointment with the Dr on Tuesday and we shall see what the impact of stopping those medications is. He’s down to just 9 medications now but 2 of them aren’t taken every day so some days he’s only taking 7 different medications. The most he has ever taken was 13 different medications, which was during the GvHD attacks. However, since some of the pills he has to take several times a day, at one time he was taking up to 31 pills/day. Right now he’s taking 14 pills a day and some days 15, so half as many as at the height.
Yes, Rachel made a point of mentioning them.
I looked up the recipe too. I have no idea what cream soda is. Little help?
BBBoo Best wishes that you receive a good report on your biopsies!
In the SE Mitten after 99% of funerals, the presider (if in a house of worship) or the funeral director (if at a funeral home) announces that the family invites everyone to a luncheon at a hall that has a caterer or occasionally at a restaurant. I don’t know if I’ve ever been to a funeral where attendees brought food then someone other than hired staff did cleanup. Although, I’ve been to 2 funerals, both of which were for people I had worked with, where after the service (one in a church and the other at the funeral home), nothing was said and people stood around wondering what do we do now. It was quite disconcerting that we were just supposed to go out to our cars and leave rather than sharing memories and celebrating the life of the deceased.
Time to take Bella for a walk. Not sure if I’ll be able to return and finish reading (only up to post 201) since we’re going to take Bella home then I will put crabgrass/weed killer on our daughter’s front lawn. I see that she’s just crossed into Indiana on her way home from Chi-town.
Long day at the museum. Opening went well, but didn’t have time to change the water in one of the exhibits, that’ll have to wait till tomorrow. Monday is happy closed day, so’s we can get shit done. Visitors managed to break one of the vitrines around a little mannequin in the Leonardo exhibit. I have been arguing against glass since this was first proposed, but I’m the new guy. The Mars rover’s battery died halfway through the day…the how big is a million glass was shattered…and I found out why the chair lift is shaking everything near it.
I was told Sundays were quiet. But I did get to organize the sandpaper. I know it sounds weird, but that made me verry happy. I’m slowly getting the shop into an actual useable place, you know where bins are labeled, and things are in logical places.
We suddenly have carpenter bees (and house painters a-comin’). I have a call in to see if we can get them sprayed without the whole-house service plan rigamarole, but meanwhile I’ve hung a trap (no bees trapped) and we’ve set speakers against the inside of the wall they’re in and are serenading them with Wall of Voodoo and Mickey Hart on repeat with the bass way up as I’ve read that they don’t like vibration.
