Roxy and I made a run to Food Lion. We had to go out the other exit/entrance for our neighborhood because the road next to our house is being asphalted. No biggie - thankfully I remembered to come in that way when we returned. She’s watching Spongebob and I’m trying to decide how to kill time till lunch and our visit to the museum. A serious RDOS day here.
That’s the problem; my schedule isn’t that flexible. My primary job is teaching university voice lessons, and we’re in the run-up to end-of-semester recitals and juries (evaluated performances). I can’t cancel lessons.
I needed him to hold on for another couple of weeks.
I’m back from the stores. I managed to score a large bag of mixed eggs (mini Dairy Milk eggs, mini Creme Eggs, and mini Caramilk eggs.)
What time will you be here??
I just finished eating lunch and I’m just kinda chilling out for awhile. Because I was lazy and thought it would be ok, I wasn’t wearing my shoes with the orthotics and braces when I went upstairs for a couple of hours to put away clothes and tidy things in general. Let me just say that it was a dumb idea not to wear the proper shoes.
The good news, I guess, is that this is the week for progress. I have physical therapy for my left foot on Wednesday, gel injection for my right knee Thursday morning, and I’m getting my new brace for my left foot Thursday afternoon. So, it sounds like I should be singing and dancing perfectly by Friday afternoon!
I’ve planned a long hike today (mostly urban), but my tummy is crummy, so I’m waiting to see if it settles down.
My big news is that the Part D insurance called this morning and said my request for the self-injectable itch medicine has been approved! HOORAY! This means I won’t have to time trips around shot days. This may sound odd, but I’ll miss the nice staff at the infusion center where I got the shots. A couple of times I was privileged to be there when a cancer patient got to ring the bell (signifying finishing chemo), and it was really moving. But the self-injection will free up my every-other-Wednesdays, so wheee!
I’m very sad about Pope Francis. He was more open-hearted and inclusive than any other pope in my lifetime. Like red, I, too, am hoping for another pope with similar views and character.
From the last MMP, I hope everyone understood that my line about holding babies was directed at Boo, whom I know loves holding her grandbabies. I know not everyone likes the wee creatures (especially when they wee) or finds any comfort in holding them. When the OKC bombing occurred, I somehow didn’t know until evening about the children killed at the daycare center. I was quite upset. I picked up my sleeping baby girl and held her for a long time. I figured if we parents shared the grief, then in a way, maybe we could share the comfort, too. It was probably silly, but I felt like I was holding her for all the bereft mothers.
Anyway, that’s the kind of comfort I meant. I’ll all for whatever comforts someone.
doggio, brilliant song! And now “Mr. Sandman” is going through my head. I’ll have to memorize your lyrics. Trash day here is Thursday for recyclables and Friday for trashy trash. We, too, have a compactor, so no hauling biiiig trashcans to the curb.
I’m at the ortho waiting to see the PA. They’ve taken x-rays, so it shouldn’t be long.
To answer OP, like doggio, I’m an apartment dweller with a dumpster that can be used anytime.
I went to Giant Eagle. Apparently, there is some sort of “treat” called gummy swedish fish-glow up, strawberry watermelon falvor.
It has edible confetti which glows under a black light.
I am certain drugs were involved in this creation.
Saw the ortho PA and my official diagnosis is a hairline fracture of the wrist. He gave me a choice of a hard cast or a hard splint, which is removable. I’m going in tomorrow to be fitted for the hard splint …
Roxy and I had a nice time at the museum. And for the first time in all the years I’ve been going there, I saw this:
a snapping turtle in the wild!!! It was swimming around the nature walk boardwalk thingie. Very exciting!
They’re updating a lot of the exhibits at the museum - long overdue, since some are probably 30 years old! I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Afterwards, we ran to Aldi so I could get a pack of tortillas, then on to pick up Tobias. Daughter got home about 10 minutes later and I’m back in my quiet, child-free house. Much chillage on tap tonight. Tomorrow it’s back to the sewing machine.
And that’s my day.
Bravo! Great doggerel, doggio!
Our big bin goes out Monday evenings unless there has been a recent bear report, then it goes out first thing in the morning. From what I’ve learned, Javalina are preferable to bears when it comes to trash raiding because Javalina just knock your bins over and spread trash all over. Bears will also tear up your bin.
Hubs had to buy a trailer so we could take our trash to the local landfill and save money by cancelling the truck, but that hasn’t happened yet.
We drink a lot of canned beer so I’ve been putting those cans in a separate bag so they can go to recycling. I’ll put them out by the fence (but on the inside) for a woman from town to come and pick up.
I used to just leave them out by the street for anyone to take, but she came to the door and asked me to save them for her and so far she has always been over to pick them up Monday evenings so it is working out for everyone.
She’s lovely, but I can sure see her sass! I hope she is feeling a little better today.
I hope they do a good job and don’t cost a whole lot of money.
Like you really think that is a possibility. EVERYONE will be called!
I liked this pope, he was softening their churches stance on birth control. Sending someone to scold the couch molester was just perfect. I’m already hearing people wondering if Vance had something to do with the pope’s death.
More for us!
Your bag goes to a lot of places used by many people and many vape pens are fairly scentless. They also leave a residue that can easily be picked up by fabric.
The one and only time I got picked for a “random” bag search, my quarter pound of weed was in the other bag so all they found was my vibrator.
That’s a surprise, I would have expected black or dark blue cause you don’t really seem to be the flashy sort.
Sounds like my kinda grocery shopping!
Progress is great and I hope things work out well. I’m sure your singing is already perfect now!
Oh good, that’s going to make it much more convenient for you. Are you going to have to do anything complicated on shot day, or is it just a regular injection?
I was on-boarding at the VA hospital and remember several mothers who had to reschedule so they could go home and hold their babies.
I"m so glad you got the choice. Being able to remove the split to have a proper wash really does make all the difference in the world.
My doctor told me that I should keep wearing my wrist splint for another week despite the pain almost being gone. I’m still a month out on the boot, which is annoying but not as bad as my wrist.
I have an ortho consult next week and I’m pretty sure they will say the same thing. Doctor also said that all of my lab work came back great, but my sodium levels are low and he wants to look at my blood pressure meds. Everything is working, I don’t want to change so I will start eating lunch at a fast food place the day before visiting the vampires.
BossLady had time to chat today. They did indeed take the train to the Grand Canyon, a wonderful time was had by all and many memories were made. Her son thinks he doesn’t want to go to college in AZ which of course makes her happy because she would like to see him on weekends.
Her cash register is telling her that traffic as well as sales have been up since I started and we both agree that it is the novelty factor because I really don’t know anything about selling seed potatoes.
Her dad told her about my new cross stitch friend so she had him bring two more stools so we can both have a place to sit and stitch, plus someone else might want to join us.
We have had a lovely rain today so I put my new fern out to get a shower. I haz a sad about it, our front porch isn’t deep enough to stop it from getting direct sunlight for a couple of hours in the morning and some of the fronds are sunburned. I can’t bring it inside, we only have ten ft ceilings and GG can jump 6 ft in the air without even crouching. He’d end up pulling it down some night and I’d get mad and yell at everyone.
I guess I could move it to the carport wall, but then nobody would be able to see it. I’ve already offered it to Mrs Harry and been turned down. Maybe I’ll take it to the library and ask the ladies there to try to find it a good home.
Neat! How can you tell the difference between the nice turtles and the bitey ones? Oh wait, do they have those in WV? Is there a chance I’ll get to see one too? SWEET!!!
Open up your computer and I’ll send the chocolate eggs through the internet.
I’ll try to remember to practice piano tonight. Practiced clarinet earlier today.
Doggio, a triumph.
BooFae, she’s a beauty, for sure. But as JtC points out, the attitude is very evident. You’re making progress, though!
Big congrats! I’m sure you can still drop in at the infusion center to say hello whenever the mood strikes, too. Your life just won’t be hamstrung with the obligation of having to turn up for your injections.
This is how I feel, too. But quite unlikely he’ll be replaced with a similar sort of person, I suspect.
FCM, we have the silly things thriving in a pond just down the road from my house. They like to vie for top spot on the log, and it cracks me up:
Glad you and Roxy managed to catch sight of one in the wild.
JtC, we don’t have javalinas, but we do have bears. For this reason, I keep all my trash well secured in the workshop. And the stinky stuff goes in the freezer until I can haul it. So far, so good!
Trash/Recycling Day here is on Fridays, but I don’t notice except for seeing some neighbors’ bins out. I haul my own to the transfer station down the road about every 6 months. I used to pay for the service, but then they stopped taking glass for recycling. To heck with that, then!
My day has been comparatively uneventful. Ollie the Dachshund is a hot house flower who had to go to the vet today for a routine visit to address his Issues (injection for skin allergies and anal gland expression for… uh, relief). Apart from that, it’s been nice and quiet. I’ll enjoy the peace before the next onslaught of frenetic activity.
We don’t have bears or javelinas, but we do have raccoons. We have a closed trash bin.
We also have squirrels that will eat holes in the garbage bags and chew holes in compost bins.
It’s turtles all the way down!
I’ve only seen one bear (I think, something big and black and shaggy stuck it’s head out of the forest but I didn’t really get that good of a look at it) but we are following Harry’s advice…which sounds just like what you do too! I’m guessing that the best way to keep bears away is to not attract them in the first place.
His folks used to have squirrels all over the place but there is only one big, fat gray squirrel here. I’ve watched him run other squirrels off. He also runs the ravens and starlings off, he’s kinda cranky.
There is a Southern Flying Squirrel colony back behind the gully but they don’t come out until Mr Crabbypants is asleep.
Howdy Y’all! Been home for a bit from men’s night. We had a fair crowd on hand, and, as usual, solved all the world’s problems, but no one ever listens to us. This was a nice day of RDOS inactivities. Now it’s time to see what’s up on teh intartoobz.
And a good evening all. Well, the rains came and soccer got cancelled, but I did my swimming and weightlifting so not feeling guilty about going out to Whataburger for dinner. Of course, as soon as I got home with the Burger and fries, my neighbor stopped by to wish me a Happy Birthday and give me…a gift card for Whataburger…(missed it by that much…). Anyway back in the house and the meal is assimilating in my belly, so all is right with the world.
We can rebuild her; we have the technology…
I am afflicted too; I always leave time for Murphy’s interference and when that doesn’t occur I have extra time to spend wherever I am heading.
nellie, good news on the Part D approval.
Coppertone, I have never heard of “gummy swedish fish-glow up, strawberry watermelon flavor” and based onb your descripion I will not be googling it anytime soon.
wet one, concur with others that a hard splint was the best option for you. Take care.
FCM, well, not exactly wild if it is part of the museum, but I get what you mean.
JtC, sounds like a good system for both trash and beer can disposal. And glad BossLady made it to the Canyon, it is something everyone should do, if they have the opportunity. And I’m sure someone will give your fern a good home.
Bright Tree, glad Ollie (great name for a daschie, IMHO) could ‘express’ himself.
And that’s all for now. Take care.
I rearranged my closet with some(matching) totes, did a load of misc. laundry, and napped. I had the usual Old Fashioned and cheeseburger. So goes Vacation Day #2
Outstanding!
HUZZAH!
< takes bow >
“There can be only one!”
MetalMouse - the snapper is, in fact, in the wild. That water is Back Creek in Solomons, which connects with the Patuxent River and all waters beyond. While the creek is museum adjacent, it isn’t museum property.
We watched another Vera and I got the dishwasher sloshing. So a little was accomplished. We shall see what tomorrow brings. The rest of today brings
Weird day. Second half of the month, which means things are slower. I made a spreadsheet for one of our Account Executives that lists the report correction requests I sent to BMCRA over the past two years. She liked it. That took some time. Did some other stuff. Watched a recording of our Member Outreach meeting. (We’re all reaching out to our members to make contact and to see if they need anything.) And, as I’ve expressed a desire to be our northern-area representative – despite my utter lack of sales experience – we’re working on a plan to get me trained.
I was a little rattled this morning when I read an email from La Jefa asking what our members get out of contributing their accounts receivable data. Honestly, it would be much easier if I were to win the jackpot in a lottery.
They took some different x-rays at the ortho today and found a disc waaaaaay out of line pinching a nerve. I’ll be doing PT and re-evaluating a return to irk on the 15th.
I had a surprise awaiting me in my mailbox at home: a statement for my long-forgotten retirement plan from a job that I began in 1996 and closed the plan four years later. Our last contract gave us a 401(k) option to participate in (I did and moved ~$4K to another), but forgot about the union bargained retirement plan (one that I didn’t have to contribute to). The $5K that I left behind has grown to $18K at this point. Yay!
I ordered a new bed yesterday. It won’t be here until the 30th, but I’m hoping that it will help my back.
I’m thinking about retirement again. I need to see if I can swing health insurance with reduced benefits and attempt to get on SSDI. Who knows, after treatment, I may be abel to wait another couple of years.
