(Old) Getting Organised in the MMP

That would’ve been some elegant passive-aggressiveness, though. Juuuuuuust annoying enough but under full cover of, “What? I’m just trying to smoothly move things along. I thought you wanted this divorce?”

Fridge removal guys, from an actual junk hauler service, are supposed to be here in a coupla hours. Wish me :crossed_fingers: :four_leaf_clover: luck this works out this time.

Lawn mowing guys still haven’t shown up; wanna bet they’re all here simultaneously?

Anyway, I gotta put on … not really adulting clothes, but something involving a bra would probably be rather presentable.

Somehow I managed to lose my post last night. I’m a genius at losing things. Then I was too tired and frustrated to rewrite it. Starting again!

Ms. Dog and I had a wonderful hike yesterday. I decided to take her to the falls. She’d never been. I thought the roar might intimidate her–We stopped at a park restroom en route, and when I flushed the toilet, she tried to squirt out under the stall door–but it didn’t. She LOVED the trails and didn’t want to leave. She saw a bunny, geese with goslings, and many other dogs and sniffed sniffs she’d never sniffed before. All told, we did 10 miles. My knee was unhappy, but tough.

In the early evening, we picked up her person and did another mile, mostly so Ms. Person could talk. 11 miles altogether. I later iced my knee and elevated it.

I seriously don’t know what to do about the noise upstairs. I know taters has it much worse, but the stomping is driving me nuts. I’ve tried to block it out, but no go. My daughter could hear it over the phone. I sat on the balcony and could still hear it, only now I realized one parent is chasing the kids for fun. I actually yelled, “STOP RUNNING!” at one point. They didn’t hear me over the stomping. There’s a playground they could reach in 3 minutes, and that includes hunting for a lost shoe.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VanGo! Wishing you smooth sailing and many appreciative consumers of your wonderful craftsmanship.

Sari, poor Misiu, but glad he got a thorough exam and the more minor issues addressed, too. Any idea how long it’ll take for the cracked nail base to heal?

JtC, trial runs on the buses is a great idea!

flyboy, I’m so sorry about your friends. What a crappy situation all around.

taters, the neighbors sound intolerable. My son and his wife had a nasty neighbor who made racist remarks (My DIL isn’t white.) and blared Fox News all day. He put speakers near the fence and blasted music (I think “Proud to Be an American” was one song.) at them at 2 a.m… The cops finally read him the riot act, and that helped. They moved, which helped more. But you shouldn’t have to move. Damn, I wish I had a suggestion. Maybe wake them at 7 a.m. with the song, “Silence is Golden”?

FCM, I hope FCD gets through the trip with more than one nerve left. Is MIL at least appreciative?

You’re a good soul and karma will come you. It’s waiting for it that is the hard part. You gave grace and it will come back to you.

Being there, doing that. No fun at all for anybody. It is an invisible disability which causes a surprising number of additional problems to be overcome. It’s not just I could do X if I just tried harder, I’m not forgetting things or responding slowly to be annoying or self-indulgent-it takes my brain 10 times longer to do something that I used to do instantly without having to even try. Traumatic Brain Injury: the gift that never stops taking.

Keep doing what you’re doing, touch base with him occasionally and remember it does him good even if he doesn’t remember it later. You will probably have to be the one reaching out, many people with TBI have challenges initiating actions, even those they want to or intend to. Stuck in a waiting room or a TSA line for an hour? Give him a call or drop him a text “Hi, it’s JohnnyLA, how’s it going?”. Tell him who you are at the very beginning, saves his brain from having to struggle to recognize you and put you in context. Sometimes I can’t remember the name of someone I run into but I know that know them (and probably have for 10 or 20 years), I just often can’t retrieve how I know them or the context or their name. The next day, long after the encounter is over I’ll have an aha! moment in the car waiting out a turn arrow “Diana Wild, we used to volunteer together at the Childrens Musem!”. Takes my brain a full day to percolate through the bazillions of synapses what it used to do instantly. Same with word finding. Meanwhile, Diana Wild is long gone, feeling hurt because she remembered me but I couldn’t place her. Sigh….lather and repeat all day every day.

Thanks for telling me this. My grandbabies love fun little facts like this. The 3 year old was fascinated by the whale skeletons at the NH Museum, surprising ALL of us since it is the first time in beau coup months that he has been interested in anything other than construction vehicles. All of the wonders of the Smithsonian museums at his feet and whale skeletons made up for his parents making him ride on a scary plane. Go figure. First thing I did when I heard? Went to the library and found him a stack of non-fiction and fiction picture books about whales. First night they were home he went to sleep holding a whale book.

And you are making the day of PTs and nurses all over the world! Good girl!

This was the GG part and yes, he does that as well, LOL!

Booo! I was wrong, it was his rented recliner that was scheduled today. He has a nice electric recliner with all the bells and whistles, but it won’t be here until the middle of July, so he picked one out at the local rent-to-own place to use while he’s waiting.

The plumbers are still banging around which isn’t sparking joy in GG’s life. I’ve gone in to check on him a couple of times and he’s very disgruntled.

I am a thread off on my piece and I’ve recounted it several times and can’t find the mistake. I think I’m going to leave that section alone until I’m finished with the whole piece before ripping it out and doing it over. That way I will know what threads I’ll have to replace and have a large section done that I can count off of. I’m not as pissed as I could be at myself, I’ve had other things on my mind and think I can be excused. This time.

She could have taken it through TSA as a medically necessary liquid, no need to limit it to 3.4 ounces. Just tell the screener that it is medically necessary.

Dammit, wish I’d known that, BBBoo. Crap.

nellie - MIL tries so hard not to be a bother that she drives us both crazy. It doesn’t help that BIL is a hot mess himself and can’t share the load. We need to get some respite help. I think I’ll look into that while they’re gone.

They got to Indy ok, but FCD is already done. I told him to claim exhaustion and hide so he can chill. His aunt is well-meaning but a bit of a pain. Meanwhile, Roxy and I are having tablet time. We’re both yawning…

I gotta read more slowly. Skimmed this one and … initially had one helluva different understanding.

How very Seussian.

Have we seen a pic of Ms. Dog yet?

Sorry, my GPS wasn’t working right.

Maybe by then you’ll have either found the mistake naturally, or learned to live with it.

Oooh, they just called to confirm the appointment! I expressed concern about them having to take the door(s) off, house trim, etc. and he assured me they’re a “full service” company.

The electric co. guys said they’d still make good on the rebate if I can just get it outta the house (they’re supposed to haul it off the rest of the way, in exchange for the rebate which is intended to finance a newer, more efficient appliance) so I’ll have a ginormous fridge in my driveway soon - landlady’s gonna lurve that if she sees it.

Happy Birthday VanGo!

Yesterday’s interview went well. Today’s interview went well, too. However… I don’t think that either job is going to be the one for me. Especially today which was for a religious school and you have to be a member of their religion to work there. I didn’t know that or I wouldn’t have applied and wasted my time and their time.

Went in and trained, again, on a tablet for 2 hours. I got 5 chicken tenders free! Nice perk!

I’ve seen some documentaries about several big strong workmen visiting a lady’s abode.

You might not need that bra after all.

Sounds seriously snifferific.

Yaay for happy pooches.

Better than sulking cats. Allie was subjected to a bath, Buddy got waterless flea shampoo (neither of us is brave enough to put Buddy in the tub). Little flea factories.

My cow-orker went out and got me a pound of freshly-made chicharrónes. She put the bag into a gift bag and added a balloon-onna-stick and a helium balloon. She also notarised my signatures for the forms I sent to California’s Unclaimed Property Division.

Mi Espose texted me that she’d found some Argentine Spanish lessons on YouTube, and she’ll show me them when I get home. I told her ‘Bueno!’ (without the leading inverted exclamation point because I don’t know how to do an option+4 on my iPhone).

On Android you press and hold the desired basic symbol or letter, then a pop-up appears w the various international variations, then you slide your finger to the one you want and release.

¡Bueno!

I don’t know that iPhone / iPad is the same, but it feels vaguely familiar from my now-retired work IPad. Worth a try in any case.

Thanks! It works the same on an iPhone.

De nada

Thanks for all the B-day wishes. Means a lot to me to have my imaginary internet friends reach out.

Quiet day here. I had to turn on the heat…in June…ridiculous.

Here’s some more birthday wishes for ya, Van Go. Hope you’re having a fine day!

I checked the DMV website this morning, and to my great surprise, the insurance issue has been resolved. I had been girding for a long battle. No fines, no registration revocation, nothing to fight.
Nice to have that off my plate so quickly.

I had to learn it about liquids I needed to take with my oxygen and CPAP equipment. You have to dig pretty deep to find the exceptions, all while the TSA screams “no liquids over 3oz only what fits in a quart ziplock bag!!” over and over again.

Those potassium pills are huge-I can see why FCMiL prefers the liquid-I would too. Glad to read you were going the extra mile so she’d have the needed potassium with her, it’s extra important with cardiac issues. The recliner thing is pretty funny-didn’t her husband’s hearing aids hide themselves inside a figurine? Did you look inside all the art figurines at FCEstates for the honking huge potassium pills?:rofl::sweat_smile:

Some updates on my ongoing trip here in beautiful Panamá. …

Last night here was rather rainy, so after cocktails at the hotel and wanting only a snack we walked only a short distance to ZIBA MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE - Tripadvisor. A pleasant little place with wonderful friendly staffers. Most of whom were from Colombia.

The traditional early 1900s architecture here is like many Latin countries or New Orleans: 2, 3, or sometimes 4 story buildings with full-frontage balconies on each level and even larger eaves off the roof so the balconies (and sidewalk below) stay relatively dry during rain. This place is on the second floor so we sat outside, watched the flow of cars and people below and stayed dry while it rained off and on. A fine snack of 2 kinds of hummus and a magnificently spiced babaganoush plus pitas was had as well as local Panamanian beer. Much conversation about the trials and tribulations of our last 35 years and the hopes, problems, and promises of the former and current women in our lives. Eventually the night wound down and we walked the block back home.

We’ve elected to stay at this hotel (La Compañia cited above) for the duration. Which simplifies our logistics a bunch.

After a great night’s sleep we had pleasant late breakfast at the hotel today, where I enjoyed a Latinized shakshuka. 40 years ago you could not buy a bad meal in this city and it still seems to be true.

Then we Ubered off to the Panamá Canal Miraflores Visitors Center to get the tour. A very well done ~30 minute IMAX movie was shown, then we trooped outside in time for a sailboat and a car-carrier freighter to lock through the original locks that are still in use for the ships that fit in them. More eventful than watching paint dry, but still a lot of very slow motion. An hour later they’d moved on and so did we. Mercifully the rain has stayed away since shortly before sunrise.

We’re now regrouping at the hotel and in a bit intend enjoy a starter cocktail at this hotel’s rooftop bar, then walk a couple blocks to Casa Casco Panamá for a rooftop Latin / Asian dinner. Sort of sushi meets tapas and has babies. Ought to be yummy; they come well recommended.

In terms of adventures per minute, this trip is a bust. In terms of just plain pleasant, it’s been a home run. The company is great, the ambience is wonderful, and the food is fantastic.

Besides, I get to yak w you folks too. What more could one want on a trip?

Cheers!!
