I figure that I don’t need to get in the shower – and thus actually kick the day into gear – for another 90 minutes, so I have time to putz around here.

It’s still warmer than average (currently 65°F with an expected high of 78), but very grey today. It being fall and everything the forecast changed overnight, and now includes a 50% chance of rain for a couple of hours this afternoon – from right when I’ll be setting up through when everyone is supposed to be at the brief outdoor portion of the event. So now I’m on the fence about maybe bringing our tent after all; I probably won’t decide until after I’ve put the table and chairs in the car. I’ll see what the weather and forecast are like then. The tent itself is kind of heavy/a pain, but the tent weights are much heavier and more annoying (and would be necessary for a parking lot setup). I’m planning to get a collapsible wagon – something like this – for next year’s events, vs the small hand cart I bought earlier this year, and I kind of wish I had it now!

I’m glad I mentioned the Netflix show Bodies: seems like it appeals to several Mumpers. I just have the finale left to watch now; I’ll finish it tonight.

My current car has a backup camera (my first one), but even after 3.5 years I still don’t really use it. I finally started looking at it, just to make sure there’s nothing/no one directly behind the car, but I can’t break the 30+ year habit of physically looking around before backing out of my driveway or a parking spot. Nor do I think I’d want to.

My holiday LEGO sets (wreath, tree, and Santa’s sleigh) got delivered yesterday! I might start one before dinner. My 22-yo “nephew” is super into LEGO – he’s actually why I finally gave them a try earlier this year – and has the tree and wreath, but not the sleigh. So I think I’ll do that one first, just because he and his folks won’t have seen it yet. To date I’ve only put together large/complicated sets; I’m hoping these will be relatively quick and fun builds.

I’ve heard good things about that show, but honestly the 1945 and 1743 settings really don’t appeal to me.

Thanks. We’ll be set up at an early voting location, and therefore won’t rely solely on the turnout for our specific event, but now I’m a little concerned that the forecast/rain might keep people from voting. We shall see!

I never get family-sized frozen dinners, because it never occurred to me to reheat those leftovers! I’m not sure if I’d want to reheat some of the things I like, but that’s an interesting idea!

Not at all.

OMG!! I want to change my name to Sharon and start dating a Mark just so “Shark” can be our nickname! :joy:

The company that cuts my grass does leaf removal, which I’m happy to pay for…and I’m happy to pay a little extra for them to also vacuum up the resulting curbside pile, because the county doesn’t offer that service in my neighborhood and I’m too lazy to rake or bag 'em.

I totally empathize with them: I don’t like to do anything super early, because it will likely mess with my stomach. Been that way all my life. In fact, Election Day – when I work as an election officer, with the alarm going off at 3am and me needing to be at the polling place NLT 5am – is always a bit hit-or-miss!

Ariel’s Jockey Club name is Boom Shakalaka….

My teams are making me hate handegg today. I need more gin to deal with this.

Mine did ok yesterday~here, have some of my :cocktail:.

Although I may need to refresh my drink when the Chiefs play later today, so leave one glug in the bottom of the jug.

Which teams are yours?

I’m so proud of myself for understanding this on the 1st try.

But .. but … I don’t want tough meatloaf!

I believe the phrase is “damning with faint praise.”

Better to have & not want, than to want & not have.

(It’s more concise in Polish, which is how I grew up knowing the concept, but spoken aloud it’s a bit of a tongue twister, and written down involves more "z"s than your average Yankee is accustomed to seeing.

Make that “28 year habit” and ^^ is precisely me.

Now get offa my lawn outta my car.

Oh, I didn’t realize this was a relatively new hobby for you! Boy, you really dived right in!

Can you show me on the nice dolly where the year 1743 hurt you?

Well, guess who called me up. At 1:30 a.m. Wasn’t expecting that, but since I had sufficiently decompressed by that point … and he did ask nicely …

Didn’t start making my pork chop till around 3:45 a.m. but the marmalade sauce was damn tasty & worth the wait. Had to cook quietly, but that was worth the effort as someone was rested up for Round II after I had sufficiently refueled.

Same here.

If they weren’t closed on Sundays, I’d probably be shoveling some into my mouthhole right now.

It’s so utterly nutritionally devoid - as only soft, beige food can be - but so dang good - again, as soft, beige food can often be.
My only “upgrade” was adding chopped green onions, during the brief interval at home between picking it up & heading to work. Definitely a welcome addition.

… but you swapped sugar for both protein and Vitamin C, so technically, much healthier.

Hence, I absolve you of your dietary sins, my Child, and counsel you to go forth and sin no more.

(But we all know you will. )

That reminds me … did Michigan, I dunno, do something last night, football-wise?

Funny you should ask.

No Michigan football this weekend~their turn for a bye (nothing scheduled).

But, and it is a big but, they could have used a game to distract everyone from the nasty sign-stealing scandal they are tangled up in at the moment. A staffer has been alleged to to have bought tickets to opponent’s games and attended and filmed the sidelines to decipher and steal signals. Heads will roll~whose and how many TBD.

My Cornhuskers are one of the teams the Michigan coach was found to have bought tickets to in the past few years, so grrrrr from me.

The sad thing is they don’t need to do the cheating stuff, they are the #2 team in the country, second only to swampie’s dawgs.

Should be fun to watch unfold.

Just in case your town’s favored team is Michigan State (closer to you, in Lansing), they got hosed by Minnesota yesterday, Minnesota Gophers 27, your local MI State Spartans 12.

Deheathenization was special this morning for two reasons. One, it is Reformation Sunday. I didn’t have anything good to wear that was red, so I wore a t-shirt with a picture of Martin Luther on it, that has the caption NAILED IT!!! I usually dress up for church but this was something I couldn’t resist. Also, today there was a confirmation. The young lady is fourteen and had been studying, and was ready for it. It’s good that she chose for herself, it gives one hope for the future.

It’s cold here, not surprising since it’s so late in October, but yesterday it rained hard and it sprinkled off and on this morning. When I left church, for about two or three minutes, there was snow. Not flakes, and not sleet, just teeny weeny ice pieces not even heavy enough to click when they hit the car windows. Like a lot of churches there will be a trunk or treat, but I’m not getting into that.

Sorry to hear about MSU losing. I lived in East Lansing for three years and still have feeling for the school. In 1988 I could hear the roar from the stadium when they beat Northwestern, assuring they would go to the Rose Bowl.

I should have specified, college vs. pro.

And thank you. 'Splains why we got a mid-shift RUSH last night for greasy-ass pizzas (“I’m sorry, you want HOW many toppings?”) to soak up all that consolation beer.

For pro, that means Lions, yes? In which case … { shrugs extravagantly } I don’t much care.
But in terms of work, it seems to be the college games that bring out the blue/yellow, or green, hats/jackets/open tequila in cupholders/five-pizza orders.

I’m in a needlework group at church and one woman helps with a project helping do Christmas stuff for an assisted living center. By now I’ve started crocheting Christmas stockings. Some are red and green, but I’ve also made a number of blue and white, purple and white, black and gold, red and blue, and red and yellow, for high school, college, and the KC Chiefs. Folks liked them last year.

Afternoon all. Did do some gym stuff, burned about half the calories from breakfast and immediately added several hundred more to my frame upon return home. Am waiting for the dishwasher to complete it’s cycle, but that is probably as active as I plan to get. 82F outside, so I probably should be outside enjoying it, but donwanna…

Oh yes, that is pretty much mandatory these days when I cruise. And concessions are stupid expensive everywhere…not sure if airports, movies or sports venues are the worst ripoffs…

Oopsie, I had my brother get me a wagon like that several years ago for Xmas to help with my soccer stuff and it’s been a lifesaver and is still plugging along. Well worth the cost, IMHO.

Shoe, thanks for the absolution, of course the two tiny Snickers Bars are only venial but not mortal sins (long as I count them in my notes). And glad G.C. was good for a encore performance.

Cupcakes, have considered getting my brother one of those Luther T-Shirts, but he’s about a 3XL or maybe a 4XL, so need to do some shopping around.

OK, buzzer just went on the dryer for the sweat-soaked stuff from my gym trip (they still go in the laundry baskets but somewhat less wet) and the dishwasher should be ready for emptying. Have a good rest of the day all.

: internal screaming :

We went to Bob Evans and had breakfast for lunch. It’s the second time in a month or so that we ate there, but I don’t see us going back. Slow service, mediocre food, no coke products. Blech!

We ran to Wal-Mart after and got vitamins and a new coffee maker for MIL. While visiting with her, I accidentally called my sister and so got an update on Mom. Now we’re home chilling.

Chilling is good.

shoe, your turkey dish sounds suspiciously like the turkey Manhattans that I used to serve in a midwestern cafe. We also served beef and pork Manhattans. While they’re a loaded carb bomb, they were comfort food.

So far, other than a good visit with Sis, my weekend has sucked mightily.

First thing was the PCP appointment. PCP highly suspects a kidney stone (hence the urology referral, for those following along) and, having had one years ago, I think he may be right.

The second thing was a phone call from Dad telling me that the no-contact sister (she is / was no contact for 4 of her 5 sibs for good reason) decided to fly to his house for Thanksgiving, when I had planned to spend a week with him. Sis who left for Dad’s today asked me to hold off on cancelling my trip until she talks to him. She’s pretty good at reasoning with him, but if b!tch sister and her spawn are going to be there, I’ll stay in Tennessee.

Does that sound like enough whining for now? :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had a McN.O.L., and achieved nappage. Oh and we day drank out on the back porch since it was nice and warm out. Malaria and scurvy were warded off. Twice. The biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I know y’all worry about that until I report in.

CupCakes we celebrated Reformation Sunday, as well. Not a big thing for Whiskypalians, but, we do have a Luterun mix, so it has become a thing we do. Besides, I like A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, so any excuse to sing it, I say. I wore red, not like anybody could see it under a black cassock and white surplice. I like the idea of the Christmas stockin’s in team colors. Rabid fans are always up for stuff in team colors.

MetalMouse Eggs Up makes some dang fine buttermilk pancakes. Plus the bacon is always nice and crunchy.

Shoe yay for a GC visit, with a round two to boot! Plus a poke chop. Sounds like a perfect evenin’.

Hope all the sickies are feelin’ better.

Now I shall see what else is up on teh intartoobz. See y’all tomorrow!

Sinuses are stuffy, and I feel tired. I took a nap for an hour. Mrs. L.A. ordered a Mediterranean salad and a carbohydrate pie pizza for dinner. After half the salad and two slices of pizza (and two glasses of wine) I’m feeling better. We’ll get into the Four Cask Laphroaig later.

I’m glad you are feeling better. I thought about you when I was making hubs some cheese snacks today:

Imgur

Grate a cup of cheese (I used mild cheddar, but you can use just about anything), line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and make mounds of cheese. I used a tablespoon for measuring and should have used a teaspoon because these are not bite sized.

Bake at 400F for 13-15 minutes and let them cool on the pan.

Hubs approved of the finished product.

As long as I had the oven hot, I made him a dozen mini-frittatas for breakfasts. I noticed that the bacon I had cooked last weekend was gone, so I baked a pound of sausage patties as well.

French butter cookies were next. @carnut my new Instant Mixer creamed butter and sugar like a dream. They are round butter bombs without sprinkles, because sometimes I get tired of sweet.

As you are working and have limited kitchen space, would you like me to start putting half a dozen cookies per batch aside for you as I’m exploring my mixer? The same offer goes for @purplehorseshoe or any other Mumper. When the freezer bag is full, I will put a couple of apple slices in the bag and mail it off so you folks can have some random, but good cookies arriving at unexpected times.

You do NOT get cookies! I have something else in mind for you

Hubs has put together a gallon bottle of Grey Goose vodka and juniper berries with plans to separate into smaller bottles and start playing with aromatics so he can get a good feel on how they affect the taste.

BBB can have cookies if she wants them though, LOL! (I might slip a small bottle in, you never know.)

I requalified for my cottage kitchen license and always use the same strict sanitation measures for all food as I do for cheese. It’s also a bit of laziness, besides knowing I’m making safe food, I don’t have to worry about skipping steps if I don’t get in the habit of picking and choosing at whim.

Thank you for the offer, but I was able to borrow one from a neighbor. This makes me happy, I can give it back when I’m done

I’m glad you having such a wonderful time. It’s a shame Her Ladyship wasn’t able to share it with you.

If you aren’t going to be using it long, pop-up canopies are not horrible expensive and are fairly easy to set up.

There have been a lot of unsettling events happening in her little doggy world, hopefully she will stop acting out once she is sure where she is now.

I think she is full of used bull food.

You have also gone through a lot of unsettling changes as well and it seems to me that you are coping very well. No listen to her, she’s just crabby because nobody likes her dogs.

ARGGGHHH!

It always amazes me that other countries also do that foolishness with their clocks. STOP IT!!!

This sounds like more of a chore than at our home. Can you not put the fountain in the dishwasher? Ours gets loaded into the dishwasher on the same day as our housekeeper comes over so we don’t pay it much mind otherwise.

I LOVE the back-up camera in parking lots because I can’t see toddlers with my mirrors if they run behind my car and sadly, there are many inattentive parents who don’t hold their youngsters’ hands when walking around moving cars. Grrrr.

W00T!!! and more W00T!!! fer seconds

Shudders with you.

Waves hello at another family sized suitcase. I hope her plans change.

I can buy cookies~I want little sampler bottles of hub’s gin trial. I loves some junipery gin (or any other botanical he decides to play around with). Is there time for him to make 25 varieties for an Advent calendar of wee gin nips?

Lunch with a cat:
Me: < gives Spot a piece of turkey >
Spot: < drops turkey, falls off table trying to grab it >
Me: < eats in kitchen >
Spot : < stands on right side of human, yowls loudly >
Me: “Step off, I gave you some.”
Spot: < runs around to left side of human > “Hi, I am…uhh…Tops the new cat. Can you spare some turkey for a poor, starving kitten?”
Sports wise, I imitated the beef and potatoes in my crockpot, stewed in my own juices for 6 hours, and now I’m done. Yummy.

< waves at heretics >

Elderberries get you taunted by the French.

Sounds like something that makes me glad I’m an only child.

Ooooooooo!

Turns out I needed more than one glug. The Broncos beat the Chiefs 24-9, a real drubbing. I watched the first half folding little kid laundry-I was much more productive than they were and I dropped fewer things. Poor lads~it was freezing cold, five thousand more feet elevation than Kansas City and Mahomes has a raging case of the flu. He played the first half but I bet they rammed IVs into him in the locker room during half time. Reading the Sports section in the morning paper should be interesting. Got busy wrangling grandkidlets and didn’t watch the second half; turns out I’d already seen all their scores-they were scoreless the second half. As it was Harriet the 6yo beat me at Concentration, Sorry and Uno so I was scoreless too, unlike our beloved shoe.

Did we ever find out which handegg teams were doing doggio wrong? We could suggest Mahomes goes and breathes on them. Guess he waited too long to get his flu shot.
