(Old) Happy National Shrimp Scampi Day in the MMP!

And a happy late afternoon to all. Been a relatively active Sunday for me, did the mowage this morning (3 bags full) and then had some sammiches, followed up by a trip to the gym for some more pedaling, and then drove over to the (now open) soccer fields to watch a game. Ended up volunteering to help a young referee by being his Assistant Ref (what, you don’t have a spare referee uniform in your car?) and while waiting for that game to start I was asked if I would like to Center another game on the field right next to it, so I did. So today was a quite active one and I feel pretty good despite all the working out, we’ll see how I’m feeling about it in 4-5 hours. Have had a banana and will fix some dinner here in a little bit, then internet and read and puzzle-solve with the NY Times until bedtime beckons.

FCM, I probably won’t renew with BJ’s either, it’s a nice place but the portions of what I would get are all way too large for my uses, so I probably won’t renew the membership either. Never have been a Sam’s or Costco customer for the same reason.

Shoe, re: fridge appointment: Oops. And you’re a member of a cult now? And the story of the kerchief and the little girl made me smile…thank you for that.

Cookie, happy birthday anyway.

Herald, I hope that the pain abates and the Docs can do something, being in that sort of hurt is no fun at all. Take care.

Cat Glove, I usually get my weekly bits and pieces from Kroger on Fridays (4x points) and Sundays (week-ahead stuff). Will have to look into that Sweet tea and Lemonade stuff…

Real Fish, thanks for the update, sounds like life is being a bit…complex…for you right now, I think (FWIW) that you’re making the right decision for your Dad and hope things work out for the kids and Hubs and ‘friends’. Best wishes on the neck recovery and a nice pic.

Pilot, y’all sure your having enough sex?   To borrow from a writer I admire who once said: “Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks.”

nellie, you’re making me glad that on my train rides in June/July I’m booked in a sleeping car with a (mostly) private room.

OK, need to fix something (mostly) edible for the evening meal and then proceed for the next few hours. Take care all and if I don’t get back to you later this evening, I’ll catch you all on the next MMP.

sorry for the writing I am using my left hang alone as I brokr a bone in my righy shouldre on Ffriday and it hurts like hell. tomorrow I will speak to the orthopedic doctor about wha will be done.

:people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging: to you too.

I’m sorry about your dad fishy. Hugs.

Ouch baker. Take care of yourself.

Ah, baker, I hope things go well tomorrow and you can get some sleep tonight.

Name days are big in the orthodox world as well. Sometimes even bigger than your birthday. My birthday will sometimes fall in great lent. Having my name day in a non Lenten time really helped.

Pascha is the only Sunday that you sleep in ( ‘cause you got home around 3-5 am), the churches that have paschal vespers are usually 5 or 6 pm. It is usually a lazy day with family.

Today along with the usual kielbasa, pascal bread, and cheese, there were margaritas for cinco de mayo.

We finally finished off the poke Cheops for dinner tonight. I didn’t want any mashed potatoes and gravy, so I gave Mrs. L.A. most of the potatoes and tossed the rest. She left come gravy, so I put it on my chop. One of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her some frozen catfish filets. I’ve put them in the fridge for tomorrow. She wants hers breaded and fried, and I want mine blackened with (home-mixed) Cajun seasoning. She likes my Cajun salmon (recipe from the ex-husband of a former Doper), but she can’t do ‘spicy’ anymore. I think I’ll get some spinach and sauté it with bacon.

Out of curiosity rocker, are you Ukrainian? My great grandparents, along with my toddler grandfather immigrated from a part of Poland that was sometimes in Ukraine and some of your Pascha traditions seem similar.

Oh, Baker, I hope you get some relief tomorrow. Do whatever it takes to be comfortable tonight!

I’m sorry about your Dad fishy, but I’m glad that you are at peace with his passing.

I was wondering, it seemed like he had wasted a few opportunities in his scheduling.

I’m sure your young ladies will love their stickers, but yes, I’ll bet that getting to dye someone’s beard is always the best fun ever!!!

Awwww! So sweet that she was looking for the beauty instead of focusing on the filth.

Yup. I blinked and thought and then nodded. I’ve heard many a preggy person saying how much they just. want. this. over.

Hubs has let the realtor know that if the sellers want to move the closing up a week, we would be able to take possession earlier.

If it helps take your mind off the pain for just a few minutes, I say keep on keeping on!

Are you in a state where you can get MJ laced edibles? If so, have you considered it? Pot doesn’t kill the pain, it just makes it so you don’t care.

Learning to smoke weed at this stage would not be a good idea, the first thing that will happen is that you will cough your lungs out onto the floor. That shakes your body way too much to help with the pain, which is why I suggested edibles. Shoe might suggest tinctures and would probably be righter than me but I have no experience with them. If you are able to try edibles, start small and remember that they take a while to digest and go through your system.

She loves you.

And you get to keep your crabby old man creds for the next year, LOL!!!

Looking at the clock, it is almost time to get dinner warmed up so the rest will be brief.

Today I had lunch with a local friend and we fought over the check. We have always had separate checks in the past and I wanted to order Hubs a burger to go, so felt badly when friend grabbed my check as well. I fussed and she ignored me, the bitch.

She’s going to be having a yard sale in a few weeks, so I offered her some things we were going to donate. She thought they were nice things and wanted me to price them so she would know how much I wanted for them. I told her that we had planned to donate them, which meant that we didn’t want anything but for them to be gone and she said she was going to send me a check for half the money. Whatever. We don’t have the patience or time for a yard sale so if she wants to deal with it, she can have all of the nickels and dimes she will get.

It has been horrible windy today so I haven’t been able to have any porch time but I am really admiring our pyracantha. It looks like it is covered with snow, the tiny white flowers are covering all of the glossy green leaves. Our fruiting mulberry will give me fruit before I move and the other, younger ones are looking like trees.

We really do have a beautiful home and yard, it has taken almost a decade but it is finally coming together. Too bad it is so hot and stinky.

I just got the call. My dad passed peacefully this evening. A nurse was with him.

Now I’m going to grieve.

:people_hugging:

I cleaned. The Canes forgot how to hockey. I had a Wisconsin Old Fashioned in honor of Cinco de Mayo.

That works.

I like the idea of Nelson slinging Tennessee Whiskey in a Nashville dive bar.

I don’t get one anymore. I like to think I sinned enough that the Catholic Church went to the extreme of decanonizing a guy just to keep me at arm’s length.

I visited my dad in San Diego in 1998. Shortly after returning to my apartment in L.A., I got The Call. I know how hard this is. {{{Real Fish}}}*

Well, no, since it was early afternoon. I decided to act like this was all a part of a day’s work. I couldn’t find anything in the lease that would prohibit distributing potting soil. This place is lousy with cameras, though, so who knows?

Oh. I’m glad a nurse was with him. Wishing you a gentle grief for a gentle passage.

My Siamese Moxie would be slinging Negronis right beside him.

I’ll be holding you and your dad in the light :candle::candle::candle:.

My deepest condolences to you**, fishy.**

Small crustaceans seem to be the source of one of the many language differences between the UK and the USA. “Shrimp Scampi” is nonsense to us.

To us, “shrimps” are tiny little things, usually found in a “cocktail” of Marie Rose sauce and some lettuce leaves. "Prawns are bigger and get served in many different ways, sometimes peeled and fried as tempura, and sometimes complete with carapace, head and all those legs.

“Scampi” is properly made from the tails of langoustine ( Nephrops norvegicus), which is a small lobster, but supermarkets and many restaurants might label any white fishy stuff, fried in breadcrumbs as scampi.

its late but condolences … i didn’t get to grieve much because my mom passed a day or two before she was supposed ot come home and since I was about 3 weeks shy of 21 and running the house for the months she was in and out of the hospital I had tons to do … then 5 months later something reminded me of her and I just bawled for hours …

this is what my cousin told me might happen and she was right. Mom had passed on a Dec 22 a number of yrs ago and when Mother’s Day came around, I cried and cried.
