[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

Mornin’ all.

Got rolled out of bed at 5:15 to go to irk. Some flight that was supposed to depart at 7:30 last night did not go. Probably due to severe weather in the upper Midwest.

So now, 12+ hours later I and my 5 crew-mates get to rescue these poor folks most of whom probably slept in the terminal. Ouch. Sux to be them.

My car’s in the shop until Monday so it was a mad flail for me to get clean & out the door, ordering a Lyft as I’m in the elevator, to get to the train station on time to catch the train. if I miss it, it’s another hour of waiting in the pleasant dawn for the next train. Weekend mornings don’t have much service. We made more than the usual fair share of lights & I had two whole minutes to spare getting to the train.

Just about to arrive at the airport station now. Then hike and people-move to the airport & begin the workday.

Done before dinner, then back at tomorrow pre-dawn.

Best of luck to all on your weekend, my Moanday.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 10c/50f outside with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s gray outside, sort of like my sad fucking life” which is, of course, nothing like mine

I’ve been absent for a few days (and about 170 posts!) due to new job and suchlike. The job’s going well, I have got access to most of the stuff I need, and I’ve been able to do a few small tasks so far. It’s annual staff review season so everyone’s been busy trying to get their meetings and paperwork sorted out before our easter break so it’s been a bit full on. I had a meeting with new boss and have offered to take a large and icky job off her hands next week which she is very grateful for. It’s exams-related, and something I’ve done before in my own dept and probably in way more complexity than theirs so I am looking forward to it, and not expecting it to be a huge challenge. She’s also suggested that I stick to my normal working hours as I’m only going to be there for 4 months, which suits me fine.

{{{{{all of mumperdom}}}}} Big hugs all round today, sounds like everyone needs one at the moment.

Nothing much going on here, I went tot he gym for 3hrs this morning, came home for a shower etc, then we’re off into town for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, and errands although I don’t have much to get done today. We do need to stop off at the pet store to stock up on cat litter as we’ve opened the last large bag and we need to make sure there’s enough next week as we’re going away on Wednesday night so the cat sitter will need to look after Shadow’s litter trays.

Other than that, I predict a weekend of domestic drudgery as the floors need cleaning and there’s the inescapable laundry to get done before we can go on our little hollibobs.

Onwards, buttercups!

Well, it did rain overnight but apparently not that much because the fields are open and I’m off to referee and coach until 3pm or so. Will write more once I’m back.

After torrential rains yesterday, it turned to snow in the evening and dumped about a half a foot overnight. Not much moving out there this morning. There’s one car stuck on the offramp and other poor slobs are trying to help dig him out. Another guy is stuck in his driveway across the street.

It’s our 30-year anniversary today. We have reservations for brunch, but it’s not looking too good.

G’morning/afternoon/evening, all! Just a quick pop in this morning, as my busyness is about to take off. I’m just taking a minute or two to read and respond a little before heading out. Thankfully, Hubby’s check did drop so I’m REALLY looking forward to putting gas in my van. Still no news about Dad, but I’m not expecting it this early. I heard that there was a tornado in the vicinity, but I haven’t been able to confirm it. I’m just glad that there was nothing more than wind and rain here. I may have a disappointed CtE. In making my plans for the weekend, I didn’t necessarily set aside time to get haircuts. CtE wants to get theirs shorter so I can bleach and color it purple for them. Of course, I wasn’t expecting all the driving I’m doing… but I am hoping I can make time to bring them in at some point.

It’s hard to say. When I’m depressed, I have a tendency to either eat nothing at all or overeat. When I’m having good days, my diet can also be all over the place - sometimes fast food, sometimes healthy home cooked meals, sometimes forgetting to eat. I am far from the poster child for good self-care, though I’m trying to get better.

I’ll have to look into that. I’m not sure but if it turns out that there is, you better be sure I’m going to be filling it out!

Exactly! It can’t just be Boo and I down here!

Yep.

This doesn’t surprise me in the least. The toddler is now CtE, 17 and, while I still think they’re cute, they’re definitely not a toddler anymore!

And with that, I’m off! Have an awesome day, my friends!

Happy Saturday!

It’s a rainy 58 degrees this morning. It was nice at the dog park, since it’s not so cold and we can sit in the pavilion. Everybody was bundled up but me, I was comfortable in a light jacket. No drama. Roxy and Molly were there, we hadn’t seen them in a long time so it was nice to catch up.

The wind hasn’t started yet.
Ooopsie, I think it was a good idea to cancel your event.

I’m planning on staying indoors the rest of the day, but there is enough to do around here to keep me busy. I’m debating taking the day off from irk. I’ll at least send them an email letting them know I am in the wind zone and may lose power.

JtC, your cats are more spoiled than Nelson on the treats! (and he’s pretty spoiled)

doggio, when I am packing my lunch in the morning before irk, Nelson knows the sound that the opening of the baby carrot bag makes and comes running. I used to give him a whole one, but kept finding partial carrots in varying states of decay in the bed when I changed the sheets. Now, I bite one in half and he eats his half.

Happy anniversary cookie!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Today’s agenda includes a bit of yard cleanup (small tree litter from last night’s storm), going to the tax lady to finish what we didn’t get done last weekend and likely swinging through Lowe’s for some plants if I have enough ambition.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My brain went into FCM mode, and I woke up at 4:00 and d couldn’t get back to sleep, so here I am. It was raining buckets, but it’s stopped now. I have a few mundane tasks to do, like try again to order that book, but other than that and doing some genealogy stuff, no real plans. I’m kind of itchy, but the knee feels great.

My daughter and her husband are still dealing with Covid. Thank you again, science, for the vaccines (and curses on the idiots who refused to mask up and get vaxxed, ensuring The Plague would endure)! As sick as they are now, I’m sure they’d have been hospitalized if not for the vaccine. Since I can’t be there to cook and care for them, I sent money for them to order in. They don’t need the money, but I needed to send it.

BooFae, glad the secondment is going so well.

RealFish, yay on the check coming through, boo-hiss on the hospital.

Boo, how are the dental issues doing? My very science-y, completely un-woo sister recommends clove oil to tide you over. It contains eugenol, which has anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. You can get it at most pharmacies. You mix a few drops into a teaspoon of olive oil and dab it on with a cotton swab. I don’t think it’s too expensive, and a small bottle goes a long way.

JtC, thanks for another great story to tell my daughter.nd M

Cookie and Mrs. Cookie, Happy Anniversary!

[sniveling and reaching way up to knock on the curb] Hello? Hello?

{{{{{depression sufferers}}}}}

We got rain & lightning last night here, too. They’re predicting more snow today (!) so I set a reminder to haul my lemon tree back inside AGAIN before I leave for my Long Night shift later today.

Speaking of, the one day I reeeeeally need to sleep in, Monkey woke me up at atoopit o’clock (it was barely 10 am when I got up) so imma snack & go back to bed.

Scootch on over, little fishie. I have a terribly dirty sense of humor - it just doesn’t show up here much, for fear of much pearl-clutching and searching for a fainting couch.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s currently 38 degrees, wet and dreary outside. The expected high is 47 with rain or rain showers expected all day long.

wordy, I’m so sorry about your mothers.

FCM, I’m no expert, but I think you did the right thing. I am also glad your SiL felt he could contact you both. That speaks volumes. I hope your SiL can find the right mix of help to come out on the other side.

BBBoo, I hope you find an appointment sooner and that you have something to help alleviate the pain.

JtC, being a melty puddle on the floor and searching for the treat with his tongue, sounds exactly like my Polar does. Huskies can be very catlike, or GG can be very Husky-like.

nellie, I’m glad the knee is doing better but I hope the itchies remain at bay.

Happy Anniversary, cookie!

I woke up at 2:30 am and stayed awake for a while but forced myself to go back to bed. I didn’t really sleep, unfortunately, so I gave up and got out of bed again at 6:00 am.

I’m not sure what’s on the agenda today. A little of this and a little of that. The weather is crappy, so car washing plans are out the window. My poor Jeep needs a bath, but I don’t see the point in giving it one when all it’s going to do is rain all week long. The usual tidying up will occur, of course.

I need to fill the bark butter and suet feeders, along with one of the seed tube feeders. The birds have been hitting the feeders hard these last four days or so. My favorites are still the bushtits, with their angry little faces and the mobs of them hanging off the suet feeder. I’m seeing Yellow-Rumped Warblers now, too (affectionately known as butter-butts). The house finches have returned in large noisy bunches, along with the American Goldfinches. The black-capped and chestnut-backed chickadees are busy as always, along with the dark-eyed juncos. The robins and towhees are all over the back garden and yard, along with the varied thrashers rooting around in the mulch for grubs and bugs. The crows come often and rip hunks of the suet and bark butter, but not do not bully the other birds, which is nice.

I guess it’s time to clean up the kitchen and get on with the day.

I’m going to a charity luncheon at the fancy country club today. I’m dressed in something other than breeches/yoga pants. Is the world ready for me???

The storms passed last night without incident, thank the lord. Today is ugly and grey with a chance of snow showers. I have no idea who is in the Final Four but I will watch.

Basketball Jones, I got a basketball :basketball: Jones….

Oh yeah, like that would happen here… MMP can also mean Many Many Perverts…

We’re going to Texas Roadhouse for lunch - a good excuse to get out of the house for a bit. It’s rainy and windy but the thunder has stopped, so there’s that. I’ve been crocheting a mermaid - pics later.

How is it I went this long without understanding this?? Sometimes my brain is so dense!

OK, time to head south for lunch!

That’s what we assumed when we saw them yesterday.

We had a cardinal build a nest in our butterfly bush a few years ago. She decided having it two feet away from the window by the kitchen table was a bad idea, though, and moved elsewhere.

Except for geese and a couple of crows I haven’t seen any birds yet this year.

51 degrees out and the sky is falling. (NWS actually does say 100% chance of rain today!) Currently no weather advisories for us, though there are gale warnings offshore and a hazardous weather outlook for most of the state, and we have a chance of thorms tonight.

Woke up around six and my left had was stiff; that’s not particularly unusual, but my right hand actually hurt – first time I’ve had that happen. Spent a couple minutes flexing my fingers and the stiffness and pain went away, but that hand still aches a bit.

Nandi keeps wanting to wrestle with Angel – he needs to get it through his head that when she is swearing at him like that, she is not playing. The void were gathered at the other end of the room, watching with great interest.

Morning, all!

At 11:45am it’s in the low 60s but grey/windy/rainy, and I’m glad that I decided to both skip this morning’s rally and cancel this afternoon’s outdoor event. I slept until a little after 7:30 and then dozed for another 40-45 minutes, and so far today – aside from turning a dry dog into a wet dog (ugh) and making sure she’s fed and watered – I’ve just been putzing around online. I replied to a few emails, checked in on some other threads here, etc.

I also decided what I want to sing at tonight’s piano bar, and have run through each song at least once and printed chord charts/lead sheets for the accompanists. The hostess figures each singer will get to do 2-3 songs. Other people tend to do ballads* (slow songs) at these things, so I generally choose more up-tempo numbers: my first two songs will be swing tunes, but if I get a song #3 I’m going to let myself do something on the slower side. If most of the folks who sing before me wind up doing up-tempo stuff, though, I might break out the ballad sooner.

*This is because we’re almost always amateurs: if you can sing at all it’s not hard to sound good on a slow song (plus they call for little-to-no improvising), but doing a swing tune well takes a little more skill/effort.

I’m about to relocate to the living room. I still have more than 4 hours before I need to start getting ready, and I want to get in some quality slothing with the dog…including time spent being all cozy on the couch while we listen to the rain/wind.

Happy anniversary! :tada:

Happy Anniversary! I hope the brunch does end up going off without a hitch.

That sounds like an excellent plan. I’ve been out in the wind today and I thought the van was going to be blown off the road.

Ok, we’re going to need something bigger than a gutter for all of us to for in. How about an underground cavern linked to the gutter? Then we can all be comfortable while letting ourselves get dirty.

Oh, and shoe, I can’t imagine the boards changing so much from my days as Head of the Flirt Academy that there would be pearl clutching and fainting couches for a lot of the denizens.

I like that acronym. Or Many Merry Perverts. We usually are quite happy down here in the gutter. :innocent:

This sounds like a lot of fun! Definitely let’s us know which was you end up going with your songs!

Today has gone not exactly as planned. I drove to MFN’s and he was pretty tired but really ready to be done with this. Unfortunately, the place we went to first wasn’t by here/ pay here. The rest of the places we tried were either closed or wanted more down than he could afford. We stopped because he was just too exhausted and needed sleep. So we’ll be going out again either Wednesday or in two weeks when he gets his next check and had more money for a down.

The one nice person at the hospital called me and let me know what time Dad’s transport would be there - not until 1330. It was the earliest they had so she took it. I asked her to let Dad know and to let him know I knew. Dad messaged me later to let me know that she had. When I find and take a survey for the hospital, she’s the only one I’ll be praising.

Now I’ve gotten Hubby’s pain meds for his foot and then shopping needs to happen. Hopefully, haircuts will happen at some point in her too. But at least I’m feeling upbeat and I have my gummies for after I get home and can relax. Enjoy your Saturday!

So in today’s fallout and damages, there was a shaft, 2 ball valves, and a coupling. Also, I was at the 200 slide, and Panamanian Vince didn’t come in, so nobody put up the diverter in Small. 30 bags worth of Smalls went past. :grimacing:

Happy Anniversary!

Congratulations! Ours is later this year.

Happy anniversary, cookie!

The weather guessers said it would be cloudy and rainy today, but instead it’s a lovely 65 and sunny out there. I’ve got windows open, but they’re calling for perhaps snow tomorrow.

I successfully replaced the light over the kitchen sink, even with no power tools. Using a manual screwdriver, overhead, while sitting on the sink is no fun. I installed the original light when I moved in here, some 20-ish years ago, and the LEDs were about to die. It seems my “home” drill has a bad battery–it won’t take a charge. I guess it’s time to bring one of the many from the shop back to the house. I still need to dress the wire, but that can wait until I have a real tool.

Have a great rest of the weekend, y’all!

Thanks for the wishes, folks. We’re postponing out brunch until next Saturday, but we’ll have a spaghetti/marinara dinner.

Decided Long Night shift merited a coffee, so I went by Tim Horton. They didn’t have the kind of bagel I wanted, but I couldn’t resist a donut.

But dangit, I really wanted a toasted sesame, so I went to the Good Bagel place (Brooklyn) they have nice coffee, too, but it’s way pricier than Timmy H.

TL:DR all my food has a hole in it!

(Note to self: Brooklyn still has the blue raspberry Red Bull slushie, and that hummingbird nectar is tasty as well as one helluva pick-me-up.)
