[OLD] Have As Good A New Monday MMP As Possible

Managed to load yesterday’s dirties into the dishwasher, plus I scrubbed the soup pot. Not bad before 7:30! SIL should bring the Toddler Tornado here within a half hour. So I have a little quiet time. To the recliner!!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 9c/47f, and rain showers. That’s why I got wet going outside to haul the rubbish bin back off the pavement. Weather app says “Rain is the perfect reason to stay inside and stare are the fucking wall”. I’d agree with that except I have to go out later.

The vet phoned this morning to remind us that we’d left Whisper’s cat carrier with them when we took him in recently, so as we’re off to the supermarket tonigth, we’ll stop by and pick that up on the way. It’s actually in the opposite direction to the supermarket but “on the way” equals “out of the house and in the car”.

nellie I hope you’re ok and the knee is not causing too much stress

BBBoo big hugs to you with the cable trauma…hope you can get sorted. Just close your eyes and picture us all waving to you!

swampy glad you’re feeling less ick today, must be something in the water, right?

metalmouse been on amazon downloading your recommended book, and then found there were two more “After Cilmeri” books I hadn’t yet got so I’ve added those to the collection.

Niner welcome to the party! Please send offerings of chocolate to FCM because she’s nice, dammit…and remember to use a coaster

Quiet day here, I have had a chat with my new boss and been sent some stuff to read through. I’ve got a brief meeting with my new minions this afternoon just to say hello to them properly, and tomorrow I’ll be on campus with them so that will be fun. I have to arrange a building induction so they can show me the emergency exits, and I have to swap my old laptop for a swanky new one that will fit the docking hubs in the new office. And I should be meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow too. Oh, the excitement!

Here’s hoping your Tuesday lives up to expectations, and you haven’t set the bar too high!

{{{BBB}}}

Glad to hear so much good going on for so many folks and so early.

Usual dawn weather here: 75F/24C going to ~85F/30C later. The usual bit of morning cumulus over the water that’s cooking off as the Sun gets higher.

My day has started with the minor frustration that I/we never got out of the house yesterday to buy coffee cream. Black is fine w me, but I usually enjoy my first cup buffered a bit. Sigh. If that’s the worst thing that happens all day, it’ll be an outstanding day.

Today I get to get a tune-up on my new hearing aids. My car’s in the shop, the hearing aid place is about 3 miles away, and the appointment is at the crack of 10am when Her Ladyship is barely conscious, much yet sufficiently primped to be exposed to the public. So it’s either a short Uber or a long walk. Unfortunately the only practical walking route is along a busy thoroughfare where the speed limit is 45 and the speed of traffic is 65. I hate roaring traffic noise. Might do it anyhow, just substituting earplugs for hearing aids. Oh bother!

Early afternoon is a haircut, but that’s just a short pleasant backstreet walk from home.

Should hear from the doc’s office what time to show up on Wednesday to have my latest skin cancer removed. Right now the whole day is blocked off. That too will have the uber / noisy walk / wife dilemma attached unless showtime is near/after noon.

It being Tuesday, craft tacos at the local Mexican joint is on the agenda for the evening.

Cheers all!

Somehow I lost my Ralphie avatar. I will look into it.

Today we have our second meeting with our investments guy. The former guy had an office in and was attached to the bank we used for years. Our younger daughter also worked at the bank but left four years ago for a better job and to get away from the toxic environment that had developed there. The investment guy evidently quit with no notice and we were not notified for six weeks. This was typical of the deterioration of customer service due to the aforementioned toxic environment.

Our daughter reached out to people she knows in the industry and has set us up with Ed. The first meeting went very well. The signatures have been done and the accounts have all been transferred. Today we will discuss our plan going forward.

Our daughter ran into the former guy at the bar she frequents. He said he just couldn’t take the environment any longer. His non-compete clause would not let him contact us.

ETA, while I was writing this my avatar returned!

And a good morning to you too! It might be record-cold for April up here in the Northern Valley, 3f/-16.1c and lightly snowing. I’ve made some friends up here but I’m still pretty lonely - probably why I’m suddenly posting after mostly lurking for like ten years.

Another day of mostly killing time for me today - I have a meeting with a potential book vendor scheduled for Thursday, so that I can maybe start doing some actual librarian things. In the meantime it’s mostly just keeping things tidy, light weeding, and helping the rare student.

Morning all. Cooler today, only getting to the mid-60’sF but still no rain in the forecast. Nothing planned but a trip to the bank for some cash and some gym time. Ordered some new checks, I’m down to my last pad, but only a small quantity, since most of my stuff is done electronically now. Last order was on 2019, so these should last quite a while.

Think I’m going to see the Doc here. I’m having pain in my left shoulder area (around the chest), it moves and flexes fine and I sleep on it, but if I cough or sneeze it hurts; so I don’t think I’ve pulled a muscle or anything. Not an emergency room trip, but at 70 years of age you check things you’d have ignored 20 years earlier…

NinthAcolyte, having looked up Acolyte, I am stumped for a MMP name, maybe swampy, being that he is an Acolyte himself at times (IIRC) can make a suggestion…or anyone else, for that matter. And sounds like as good a day as you could ask for…

{{{BBBoo}}}. They should be able to fix it, I hope, but don’t lose hope or contact. We’re here, and always will be, for you.

Hippie, glad you have an investor you can trust (but verify…). And yea! for the returning Avatar.

Pilot, safe walkies (or Uberies) today and tomorrow.

Boo fae, hope you enjoy your reading list. England doesn’t show up until the follow-on books, but see if you like the style or not. Sounds like a busy Wednesday.

swampy, know the feeling, so far ick has avoided me but sloth is still going strong…

FCM, yeah, I remember you mentioning the mounting blocks, hope they work out good.

Butters, like shoe said, that’s is a lot of garden. Enjoy the fruits of your labor in due time.

Seanette, may the cat’s get over their annoyance quickly.

JtC, $300/month for internet! Wow, that’s a big one. But figure 1-2 gallons of gas per day saved + lunch each day probably evens it up pretty well.

OK, need to Break Fast and make the Doctor Appointment, so all y’all be the best that you can be on this last 2sday in March. Take care all.

Most folks most places just call me “Nine!” When I was working on changing my legal name I considered choosing that… But I chickened out, figured I didn’t want to be explaining it every time I met anyone for the rest of my life.

Our realtor when we bought this house was named Nina, pronounced NINE-uh.

Tobias is in a mood today, or maybe he’s so advanced, he hit his Terrible Twos at 16 months… wonder if he’ll nap today? That’s probably too much to hope for.

Ok back to wrangling.

fun times with water in philly. people have gone a bit crazy getting bottles water. i ordered a bunch for the office. i’m drinking the water, so far so good. i do hope they come up with a way to divert from one water treatment plant to another in these situations. phila has around 4-5 wtp that service the region. they should be able to switch from one to the other.

163x’s is a really good series of books. for me i found it fascinating to contemplate what i would do in that situation. given the technology and knowledge of history what changes would you make? also the interactions between the people of that time and the ones from the future, so funny. 1632 men seeing cheerleaders at the wv high school. so amusing.

SSLAW 1 is still down, and Carmen is still not key-ing. At least Lyft works.

Typical cat.

Sounds good. And welcome!

My mind keeps insisting that should be some sort of Shoulder-fired Light Antitank Weapon…

:+1: :+1: :+1:

I’m hoping Flint’s widow will give permission for authors to continue the naval and American story lines.

Boofae already used “Niner”, which sounds good to me. I’m thinking it’s time to update the name list – we seem to have added a bunch of people.

So far it’s been an unusually busy morning for me – gave Angel her morning glop, read today’s webcomics (Darths and Droids and The Whiteboard), and went for my periodic INR blood draw. And it’s not even noon yet! Two more hours until breakfast.

We were supposed to have dirt delivered tomorrow morning, to top off the raised beds, but with rain expected tomorrow afternoon/night we postponed it until Thursday. Don’t know when we’ll be able to start planting – there are two nights this week with predicted lows of 29. We’re planning peas, radishes, lettuce, jalapeno and serrano peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, onions, and I’m not sure what else. In the meantime the daffs have bloomed, and the tulips are starting to show buds.

The bins will go out to the foot of the driveway tonight, after we finish using cars. And that’s about all I have planned for the day, other than reading and sloth.

We’re out of half-caff. :scream: I did find a half dozen regular K-pods of regular coffee in the cookie jar, so I have a cup of that brewing. The docs told me I shouldn’t drink coffee, so I compromised by drinking half-caff.

I woulda just gone back to bed, but I had to put the big trash can out in the alley for the garbage people. Usually I do that Monday night, but we were supposed to get high winds last night, so I put it off 'til this morning. The winds never happened. What did happen was rain. It’s still kinda raining. Oh well. Retired people problems.

Also I forgot to cover the barby last night, so it’s soaked.

Speaking of reading, if you like British police procedurals, may I recommend Ann Cleeves. She wrote the books that became the TV series Shetland and Vera, (not that gawd-awful Scooby-Don’t spinoff series) among others. She’s good with words.

The GirlChild is visiting for the week, but she didn’t bring her hubby or Archie. She and her mother are planning on doing a bunch of painting this week. I hope it stops raining so they can go outside to paint mountains and stuff.

I also hope you all have as good a day as you can tolerate.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry is laundered and nappage has been accomplished. ‘Tis a very rainy day, so glad to be inside and dry. There will be day drinkin’ on the back porch as both of us like to sit out there when it’s rainin’. Envy the excitatement that is us!

Boo hope your ipad woes are taken care of today as painlessly as possible.

Niner welcome! Come in. Set a spell. Take your shoes off.

I’m a Whiteboard fan too. Wonder if Doc will ever propose (give it about 4-5 more years at the speed the comic moves…). Will have to look at Darth and Droids , right now I read Girl Genius, Freefall, Spacetrawler, Atomic Robo, and Drive.

Niner sounds appropriate, so let it be written; so let it be done. And Herald, I’ll try to work up the ambition to do a name list…you’d be surprised how many folks there really are.

Banking is done and did a little shopping, so off to the gym in a bit to knock off a few more calories.

OK, need to dress (mostly) appropriately for the gym and get pedaling to nowhere for an hour or so. Remembered to buy a new body/hair wash bottle, I never get quite finished with one before forgetting it at the gym’s showers.

Take care all.

Besides the two I mentioned, I read Freefall, Swords and Sausages, and Nine to Nine. (The latter two are tied together, and there’s a “prequel” strip, College Catastrophe.) I love the Foglios’ work, but there’s too much backstory to catch up on.

And speaking of catching up, todays D&D strip is #2288. It’s a screen-cap comic, in which Star Wars is an RPG campaign being played in a world where the movies don’t exist. The Comic Irregulars began on 14 Sep 07 with the opening crawl from Episode 1; they’re now 55 strips into Episode 8, having also covered Rogue One and Solo along the way. One of the best parts is that Jar-Jar Binks is explained as the creation of a little girl; one of the players was stuck baby-sitting one day and took his sister to the gaming session, where the DM offered to let her join the game – which eventually led to the line “Jar-Jar, you’re a genius!”

Evil time change.

Sending lots of good thoughts. I hope the fix is easy and not too expensive.

Not much exciting going on here. Winter blew back in for the weekend, but Wednesday’s supposed to be back to spring temperatures.

I put fertilizer on the grass in the side yard last Tuesday, but didn’t do the back yard until today. Hope it helps. Last year’s drought really did a number on the grass, so it needs all the help it can get. The winter was mild and dry, but the spring is being damp, so maybe we’ll be lucky and get enough rain to prevent a water shortage.

Happy Tuesday!

Hey all. I posted a thread in the Pit if you want to know more, but I was at school during a shooting many years ago. For some reason, this last shooting is the one that has wrecked me. I can’t stop crying. I hate this situation so, so, so much.

Flying from Portland to OKC today, and just landed in Phoenix for a layover. The captain announced local time as 11:00. Well, a lady in a seat behind me was confused because “I thought Phoenix was on Mountain Time, and it’s the same time as in Portland now.
Being the helpful sort, I told her that Arizona doesn’t do Daylight Saving Time (which I thought would clear up her confusion). Taken aback by this, she said “Are we on Daylight Saving Time?

Uhhh, not right now.

This is how in my own stuff I’ve been - I hadn’t even known anything was happening with Philly’s water. Hopefully they’ll be able to get it straightened out sooner rather than later. (Then again, I seem to remember Philly’s water not being that great when we lived there…)

{{{{Sunny}}}} I’m so sorry, hon. I’m in Nashville, so this one has wrecked me a bit too. It really is getting to be too much and I’m so sorry that you have a personal connection.

Today has actually been a pretty good day for this little fishy. I drove CtE in to school and was glad that I got gas on the way in. When I finally made it back to this area of town around noon, I found that gas had jumped 20 cents/gallon from what I’d paid this morning. I did come back here after dropping CtE off to get BtY and drop him off before going to my doctor’s appointment.

Doctor’s appointment went really well. My doctor made me stand up and turn around because she said I’m thinner than she’s ever seen me. She’s really pleased with the weight loss, now we just have to hope that Rybelsus gets passed the third clinical trial so I can get back on it and continue with the loss. She said my heart and lungs sounded good, then sent me for blood work and to get the latest COVID shot. I was able to see the results of my blood work when I got home and almost everything looks good. My LDL Cholesterol is a little high but not terribly high and the rest of the numbers are great.

Then I headed over to my library branch. They have SOOOOOOO many books waiting for patrons, but considering they were closed for 3 weeks and the branch they’d been moved to wasn’t as convenient for all involved, it really isn’t a surprise. I did get a chance to hug the children’s librarian and chat with her for quite a bit before picking up the 8 things that were waiting for me. I’m so glad that they’re back where they belong, though. I love my librarians.

I’ll be posting about Dad in a bit in my thread about my him. Things are starting to make sense a bit, which is helping with my mood too. That, and having long silly conversations with a friend, finding out another friend that had been in a coma is out of it, and getting pictures from one of the vice-principals at BtY’s school of him laying down under one of the tables. Though with that one, I am slightly concerned. That is a behavior that he had in elementary school when he’d get overwhelmed and wanted to shut out the world. I don’t know if he’ll tell me anything, since he’s very closed mouthed about what’s bothering him, but I need to try to see if something is overwhelming him so we can try to address it if it is. For all I know, it could just be a matter of processing the shooting yesterday. I won’t know for sure until I ask.

Well, mumpers, have a great rest of your day, however long or short that may be! I’m going to enjoy a little more of the sunshine pouring through my window as I type.

Hello, everyone! I’m here! I got caught up in family stuff going on, and then my daughter called to say she has Covid. She’s fully vaxxed, but I worry because she’s not strong. She just had a flare-up of her still-undiagnosed stomach issue, so she’s basically malnourished and has dropped even more weight. They’ve run all kinds of tests but still don’t have a diagnosis. This is when I really, really wish we lived closer. I want to go over there and take care of her.

My knee is about the same, but my itching has definitely decreased. Hooray!

{{{{{sunny}}}}} I’m a wreck with every school shooting, and I’ve never been in one. I’m so sorry you had that trauma.

Boo, I hope your cable/iPad problem is an easy fix. If not, please check with your local library. Many of them let you check out an iPad for 1-2 weeks.

Have read all but haven’t retained much. Will do better, promise!
