(OLD) Hey! It's The May-Day MMP!

Jeebus, I was sick for a couple of days and missed over a hundred posts, so … um, yeah.

I am cautiously upgrading from water to Vitamin Water, and we’ll see how that goes. Had to call out from work the other day - I rarely call out, but when I do, you do not want me around food.

But in a few, imma put on clean pants - oh hey, TweedleDumber is off today, and one of my favorite coworkers will be there, so that’s a plus.

That new girl left. Sad! I didn’t overhear all the drama, but enough.

Alright, that’s the Shoe report. I’ll try to check in better with my friends.

Home. And now for the news…

We went to Marie’s Diner for breakfast - they have the best omelettes and home fries. And the biggest pancakes!!! We were well-fed for less than $30 including tip. yum.

Next stop was the rental office of the new apartment complex. We turned in the requisite paperwork and got a move-in date of May 10. FCD will take his mom over to do the pre-move inspection, get the keys, and sign the lease. Then the move will begin.

Except on Sunday, we’ll take our truck so they can load the stuff they want to store at our place. We set up two pallets (leftover from pellets - old pellet pallets!) where we can stack boxes and bags and whatever. It’s in the part of the garage that has not yet gotten wet, but no taking chances. At the new place, everything gets paid with the rent check - it will include all the utilities, trash, and cable/internet. All costs are fixed except for electricity - that will be billed according to how much they use. But the complex tracks it, so we’ll cancel her current (hah!) service as soon as she vacates. We’ll get an invoice emailed every month and I’ll get it paid. Easy-peasy.

Next, we went to Lowe’s for some 'lectrical stuff, then to the boat where we poked around a little, then decided to come home. FCD is just worn out - largely from stress I think. So he’s vegging in front of the TV right now. My good deed for the day was vacuuming both cars, so I’ve earned my right to veg.

Tomorrow, we’ll head over early to pull wires and wax the hull again. The rest of today is probably for chillage.

Happy Cinco!!

Speaking of seminars, Wifey, RN, ex-WO2, has signed up to attend the Veteran Cultural Engagement Workshop later in the month. It’s three days, ‘free’ (although she mentioned a $45 fee for something or other), and accommodations are provided by the VA. It’s worth 20.5 points, which she hopes she can apply toward her required CEs (Continuing Education). It doesn’t have anything to do with foot care, and from what little I’ve read it’s not about health care. But many of her patients are elderly veterans, and she’s a combat veteran, so it might work as ‘The workshop helps me to relate to my patients.’

Howdy Y’all! We took care of candle duty and brunched. Nappage was also accomplished. Next up is day drinkin’ margaritas.

JtC paper products are an excellent idea. I’ve done that for folks and it’s always well received. Makes me think about the potluck joke that if you are always asked to bring plates, napkins, ice and cups that means you can’t cook.

Yaay Shoe; welcome back to the land of the tentatively living. We missed you!

'Tis late afternoon here now. Other than eating and slothage I managed to do one of my admin tasks, cross another off as not worth doing, arranged for then obtained a haircut, enjoyed a cappuccino in an outdoor café, retrieved my drycleaning, and conducted a careful 360 degree reconnoiter of the construction site and now-disappearing crane. All of which were connected by a pleasant walk in the sunny afternoon. Walkable is a great way to live.

The crane crew managed to remove 3 more segments since last report, a total of 4 today then disappeared at ~1pm not to be seen since. Now the crane is scarcely taller than the building; I’m not sure they could swing it freely in a circle without the fully raised hook dragging the shiny new roof. For sure they won’t be able to after another segment is removed.

From my peregrination I confirmed the crane is free-standing in a narrow breezeway between the two now ~10 story buildings it built. They’ve got the boom rotated to align with the breezeway and it seems that from here they could continue to use the crane to remove segments from itself until the boom was lowered to about 3 stories above the ground. At which point if it went any lower the counterbalance boom would collide with existing low-rise buildings on an adjacent unrelated plot of land.

Then comes the fun of removing the horizontal boom & counterbalance boom. Without tipping anything over or dropping anything on those buildings. Which is the part I’d really like to have a ringside seat for. Sadly that would require me grabbing a lawn chair and cooler and repairing to a vacant lot on the far side of the building for a few hours at a time. At least the vacant lot has mature trees for shade.

It’s time now to go downstairs for the Cinco De Mayo snacks, yaks, n’ drinks event. The management company puts on a nice spread about once a month for whatever holiday or other random excuse they can come up with. Her Ladyship is now all polished & I shall do the same quickly.

Cheers all!

I have returned. I’m sure you’re all appalled at the prospect.

3 double margaritas and a bunch of generic Mexican food from Moe’s Southwest Grill (moes.com) later, I’m properly fortified for the evening. It was perfectly adequate chow, quite plentiful, and utterly free. Although considering what we pay to stay here each month, “free” seems a wee bit of a misnomer. At least the help is super sweet.

About 50 of my co-residents attended and Her Ladyship & I had a nice yak with a 30ish married couple of young professionals down our hall on our floor that we’ve made a mutual plan to become better acquainted with. They’re hoping to make a baby soon. It’s so cute I want to pinch their widdle cheeks & make cooing noises. Or shout “Go back! It’s a trap!”

Hard to know which is the better response.

Still trying to decide whether to stay up all night or get up dark and early for the coronation. I’ve got supplies in for a modified full English and coronation chicken. Tiara at the ready!

I’m with you on the state of healthcare wordy. I live in one of those states too.

That stinks about your dealership metal mouse. I experienced something similar at the dealership where I bought my car. Fortunately, I have another Hyundai dealer just about as close and much more reliable.

Glad you’re sitting up and taking nourishment (a nod to one of my former cow-orkers) shoe.

Houseirk and laundry is done, groceries bought and zoomies abated via a trip to the dog park. Now for chillage.

I had to have a talk with Molly’s dad today about her uprooting my herbs next to my patio. She uprooted the elephant ears that I planted there last year (yes, I caught her both this and last year) and now she’s going for stuff in pots. She’s usually a pretty good girl, but her dad leaves her out unsupervised and that’s a recipe for disaster.

So sorry to hear that; I had been wondering where you were; what sort of shenanigans you had gotten into. Heck, sick :blech:
I hope the new young woman didn’t leave because of family drama following her to new location.

Mooooom That’s truly great that things are working out for MIL…and for you and FCD to have her closer; seems like Win, Win.

Another busy day but it’s finally a very beuuuutiful Spring day…so my mood has improved from earlier in week. First was 9am palliative care appointment; quickly dropped Hubs off at home and went to irk for 1-1/2 hrs. Didn’t finish everything but needed help from a coworker on a task I’ve never done but he wasn’t available this afternoon; he said he could help me over the weekend. Then home for a quick minute to make a sandwich that I ate in the car while driving Hubs to PT. After a confab with the Therapist about Hubs’ new 'scrip for the other hip, I went to the local hospital to pick up 2 new prescriptions, then to Home Depot to get 3 keys made for the new back doorknob Hubs installed about a week or so ago; one for self that I like to carry when I’m walking so I don’t have to take my big key ring, one for key rock and a special one for daughter. What made it special is that it is colored as a cheetah. She has clothing, purse and rain boots that are all cheetah colored so I’m hoping she appreciates new key. Who knew they now have vanity keys. If I had known before the attendant started making the key for me, I might have chosen the Spartan key blank. Then back to office to pick up info needed for coworker to help me with task tomorrow then to PT office to pick up Hubs. Had to go in to confer about schedule for next week. Good thing I did because Hubs had said he would like to come at the same time he has an appointment with his Hematologist/Oncologist. He doesn’t put them in his phone; I do. Then home to roll the trash bin and recycling bin into their places in the backyard and carry the 2 trash cans that held the grass clippings into the backyard. Quite tired but instead of napping or at least resting, have been internetting and watching soaps. Now have a second wind which is good as Hubs came down asking for dinner. I fixed chicken tacos with avocado slices on side. Trying to decide if I should go Krogering today or wait until tomorrow. Also SHOULD go to Fitness Center since I haven’t been since Sunday. I need some motivation.

Margaritas were consumed out by the cee-mint pond. ‘Tis cloudy, but warn out thus nice to be out there. Netflix is now bein’ watched.

Shoe glad you feel better. Hope irk is not too irksome.

Pilot adequate is the best description of food from Moe’s. Haven’t had their food in a long while. It’s food, I ate it, and didn’t get sick or die is also a good description. It’s Mexican MickeyD’s.

Rocker tea and coronation chikin does indeed sound like a royal celebration. Long live King Chucky!

I’ve browned a pound of ground round, and put taco seasoning in it. We have shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, Rotel’s salsa, sour cream, and cheddar cheese. The Missus is heating some Amy’s refried beans with cheese mixed in. She’ll have soft tacos (corn tortillas), and I’ll have burritos on Carb Balance whole wheat tortillas. And since tequila was on sale, we’re having margaritas.

Smalls Heave was OK, but te 100 Sort table was a mess. But that’s how I make my gin money. Although I’m having a margarita, to honor the Mexican victory over the French in 1862. :cactus: I did a load of laundry. Spot knocked his bowl off the kitchen table, and spend 2 minutes alternating between looking down at the bowl at the floor, and mewing pitifully at me, before I stopped laughing and cleaned it up for him. I did take a walk in the park up the road. Spent 20 minutes dodging disc golf discs, but no sign of Darci. :frowning:

wordy, I hear you.

suzie, soulds like a good Sunday plan.

We’ll vouch that you’re certifiable.

He follows me around like a puppy.

{{{{shoe}}}}

Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony! :dagger: :guardsman:

Well, I was a little over-ambitious on my burritos. One came out taco-shaped; and the other, I couldn’t fold the ends. I’m stuffed. But not so stuffed that I can’t have another margarita.

Evening all. Swimming and sauna were accomplished and the weather has cleared some, so looks like soccer is on the schedule for tomorrow. Was 15 minutes to late to pick up the dry-cleaned comforter, so will try and remember to stop there tomorrow.

I told the soccer team girls they could dye my beard using a Kool-Aid color, stopped by the Wal-Mart and ticked off the packets–so I’ll have either a Blue Raspberry, Orange, Black Cherry, Strawberry, Pink Lemonade, Grape or Tropical Beard in a couple of weeks. Need to come up with a voting sheet for them. One or two still want to shave it off, but I think I’ll hold onto my beard until the Fall.

Cat Glove, sounds like you’re giving FCM a run for her money on the ‘wear people out by listing what you are doing’ category. Glad it all worked out well.

red, you probably already said, but how old is Molly? No matter how little, she should be learning about messing with other people’s stuff.

Pilot, sounds like a good time was had by all.

FCM, sounds like a good plan for MIL; now just get BIL squared away…

shoe, enjoy work, but take it easy…no relapses allowed!

Oopsie, enjoy the sloth. Swampy can give you pointers if you need them…

Well, dinner was not Mexican but I did wave as I drove by a Mexican place bringing back several Krysal Cheeseburgers (yeah, fat bombs, but now and then some decadence is good for one’s belly) for the evening repast. So internettin’ and readin’ will take care of the rest of the night. Up early tomorrow, have 8:30am and 11:00am refereeing jobs, so that will get me my exercise for the day.

Take care all.

I’ve been fever free for a couple of days, but everything has been sooooo busy. Not sure how much of the couple hundred posts I’ll get through, but I’m willing to give it a game try!

Yowch! This has been a year for expensive car issues. It cost $8000 for the transmission in my van. I had to get the emissions system done in our car which costs $1200. MFN found out that the rear main seal in the truck he bought a couple weeks ago is going and will cost $1200. Everything is getting too expensive anymore. Here’s hoping you’ll get yours taken care of with the cost being the only pain!

I think I’ve only read the first two. I should give them a try again since it’s probably been 30 years since I’ve read even those.

ooops, yay for better Bailey!

Oh, I know some 70 year old cis-males that can flounce with the best of 'em. Of course, now I have visions refusing to leave my brain, but sometimes that just can’t be helped!

{{{JtC}}}. I’m so sorry for the loss of your biker friend.

wheelie , great job with Murphy!

Taters, yay for long weekends!

Sensei, no one, and I mean NO ONE can be post and whiny like a 14 year old girl. I’ve been apologizing to my folks about being such a brat for the last 20 years! Nice pic, btw!

I feel like that with almost every truck I try to get into. Curse my short little legs!

doggio, you have all over the place dreams like I do. I’m glad I’m not the only one!

My aunt and uncle wanted to name their eldest son Aaron Scott. It would have made his initials ASS. They kept the name, changed the spelling to Earron. Sometimes thinking out of the box works! Though, because I was a sheltered child in a small town, I thought that the only way to spell the name was Earron. I got into a lot of arguments.

I’m not sure if I think this is ingenious or lazy. Or both.

It’s great having a governor like that. I wish I could say the same but… Tennessee. Hope you did get a chance to meet and shake the hand of said individual.

I am so glad that I’m not the only one who went there!

I am so, so sorry.

Bumba, yay on house purchasing! It sounds like an adorable house!

Quietly , I love that sentiment about students coming back to take care of their teachers. Especially since a good teacher can make all the difference in the life of a student.

wordy, I’m steaming for her. You’re right, it isnt the way this is supposed to work. More and more, I worry about the world my kids are entering into. Not that I have to worry about miscarries or ectopic pregnancies for either of mine, but I have a lot of child- bearing age friends that don’t deserve to be raised in this fear. My only hope is that the next generation continues the fight and get us back to sanity.

I’m with you, shoe. I’m trying to get caught up, but I know I missed things. I hope you keep feeling better. :people_hugging:

So that should have me (relatively) caught up on what y’all have been up to. Me? Well, the fever lasted through okay of the day Wednesday. I still haven’t really regained my appetite, but with all the extra poundage, that’s not necessarily bad. Wednesday night I took CtE to therapy and stopped by the library to pick up my holds. CtE came out of therapy with a lot of tears. They’re having a really rough time wrapping their brain around the future, and it kinda scares me. I’m thinking that we may need to try partial inpatient again, or possibly even full inpatient. They don’t seem to find joy in much of anything and I hate seeing them like this. I’m just not sure what more to do.

Thursday morning, they had an appointment with the PA that watches over their meds. It was a good appointment, or so I was told. They also didn’t fight me about going to school right after. If cleared my calendar up a bit, in the hopes that MFN would get the money he’s waiting on to fix his truck, but no luck. So instead I got all the sick person sheets off the bed and did a few more around the house things.

I also got a call from one of BtY’s teachers asking if I’d chaperone the 8th grade formal after the ascension (read: graduation) ceremony. Of course I said yes, because that’s the kind of parent I am. But it also means that BtY will be going to his 8th grade formal, whether he likes it or not. I just hope he’ll let me get him gussied up enough to show off that he’s more than hair and a Dr Eggman hoodie.

Today I had the 2nd/first part of the incontinence studies in doing. I’m REALLY wishing I didn’t have to ever drink Gatorade again, but I have the second party of that study the same days as BtY’s ascension ceremony. At least thanks to these two studies, I’ll be making $400. She also had me do a quick survey that netted me a $20 Target gift card. And she had a friend that had another study that will earn me $50. All just for filling my bladder. A lot. The woman and I doing the study get along great and spend much of our time chatting away about everything. Both of us are the “make friends with anyone” sort of people. We may try to meet on campus for lunch once in awhile.

As for this weekend, tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day so I know we’ll be hitting a few places for that, including my branch of the library. We’re also planning on going out to lunch at a place we visited when CtE was a babe and BtY wasn’t even a twinkle. They’re closing after 50-odd years, I believe. So we want to go one last time before they close. Tomorrow night, I’m supposed to go to a spoken word event. Not sure if I’m going to read any of my poetry, but I’m hoping to check it out. And Sunday, we’ve got a get together for one of our geeky meet up groups. It should be a good weekend all the way around.

Now I’m going to curl up on the bed and talk Hubby into watching a show or something. Have a great nightdayafternoon, all!

I got a tax refund from the State of California.

It’s a dollar.

Don’t spend it all in one place.

rocker my friend and I are having a coronation lunch. We figure some station will do reruns of the ceremony. I am bringing cucumber, tea, sandwiches, and chicken salad on croissants. I was going to do coronation chicken, but would need spices I don’t have and don’t want to pay money for to use a half a teaspoon. She is providing cookies and scones.

God save the King!

metal mouse, Molly is about Nelson’s age. Normally, she’s fairly well behaved, but doesn’t have nearly enough supervision. Her brother Jim is usually leashed outside (a number of us complained to management having a 90# dog who isn’t good with small dogs running loose), she’s just let out unsupervised to do her business. She’s gotten into the guy next door’s potted plants too (and his are much higher dollar than my herbs). He leaves his dogs out off leash too, but he’s always out there with them. I like Molly, but she needs more supervision.

Happy Friday!

I can’t keep up with what day it is anymore.

No park this morning.
I didn’t feel like dealing with B/H mom.
I’m in a funk anyway, I need to pull my ass out of it.

There’s a woman who used to come to the park. Really nice but she hasn’t been for a while. The last I heard she had cancer, again. She works at the same place as my son but their shifts don’t overlap like they used to.
She met my son at the park once and she said he is really shy, isn’t he? I said yes, and it’s a problem. She said she has a nephew like that and it’s bad. She said you can’t let him be that way.
Once they started working in the same place, she decided she is going to make my son talk.
Every time she sees him at work, she makes a point of going up to him, talking with him, and asking questions that require more than a yes or no answer.
My son saw her last night, it’s probably been close to a year since she was out with cancer and the shift changes.
My son got in the truck this morning and he says, mom, I saw Joyce today. She told me to tell you hi and she hopes you’re doing okay. Then he said, she asked me so many questions I figured I may as well just sit down and talk to her, because she is not going to stop talking to me.
Thank you, Joyce!
My son won’t admit it, but I think he likes talking to her.
I hope I see her so I can thank her. I know she is doing it because she cares.
I told Lily mom, who is their boss, that Joyce got ahold of my son and my son finally gave in and started talking to her. She laughed and said good, it’s what my son needs.

Echo has a UTI, and I hope that is all it is.
She is so damn hard to pill though. She used to grab treats and gobble them down, but since Ripple isn’t here, she treats everything I give her with suspicion. I guess when he was standing next to her, she thought she had to grab the treat before he got it.

Anyway, it’s past my bedtime and I will get back to everything going on tomorrow

Very well-said. As my brother once said of Navy food:

Crudity warning

Well, … It’ll make a turd.

They were founded in Atlanta (!?!) and now belong to the same Generic FoodService HoldingCorp as do Cinnabon & Schlotzky’s. I suppose they could simply rename them all Ersatz, Inc. and thereby avoid all the legal problems about them mis-advertising their products as actual, you know, food.

There’s no such thing as that stuffed. Margs fit very neatly into the crevices between other food in your tummy. There’s always room for one more. Whether there’s walking capacity left after one more is a different question with sometimes a different answer.

Sounds fun. I bet that crew can squeal like nobody’s business.

Yaay! Not much else matters. Keep up the chillage & the rest of the world can go hang.

There are none so deviously hard-working as those in dogged pursuit of stupid-lazy.

Cool. Frame that sucker but don’t deposit it.

For the next 20 years their books won’t balance and you can rub your hands with glee like Mr. Burns at every month end:

It’s all my doing! The fools; they cross me at their peril! I’ll teach them a lesson they’ll not soon forget!!! Their books are a shambles thanks to me. Meee! Bwah hah hah hah!

It’s totally worth a buck to do that!

I received an unexpected small check from IRS last week too. As I’d mentioned a few weeks ago, I was a bunch under-withheld this year and ended up owing a chunk on 4/18. TurboTax had helpfully computed that I owed a penalty for that. So on 4/18 based on the info on my return IRS debited my checking account for the tax shortage + penalty. So far, so ordinary.

At second glance, IRS seems to have disagreed with TurboTax, and a couple days ago sent me an unexpected (and unexplained) paper check for the amount of the penalty. Nothing to crow about dollar-wise, but a pleasant surprise just for what it means.
