(OLD) Hey! It's The May-Day MMP!

Even after Vatican II, my mom always fixed meatless meals on Friday. If we went out to eat, Dad and us kids may order a burger or steak, but she always stuck with fish.

Is that what you would call a whirlwind romance?

cat glove, whenever I go to the good car wash (where somebody else washes and cleans the interior), I find both the passenger and driver windows remarkably clear of nose prints, so I get the clean glass thing.

wheelie, Nevada wouldn’t just transfer your Cali licenses? Whenever I’ve moved state (IN > CO > IN > TN), it was a simple transfer of DL. I do keep a SS card in the fire safe with my car title and other important papers though.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. The big things on the agenda today is a grocery outlet run, a stop at World Market for coffee beans and one at Staples to exchange a CO2 cartridge for the Soda Stream. If it doesn’t rain, I’ll take Nelson to the dog park. He did get to play with the standard poodles next door this morning, so his social life is still alive. :stuck_out_tongue: Now, off to do KP.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Yesterday was payday, which means today is bill-paying day and it’s time to face the damage that has been done to my credit card balance in the past few weeks (my usual expenses + the trip to NJ for my uncle’s funeral + around $2K in vet bills). I donwanna, though, so here I am. I’ll be calling one of my fellow volunteers shortly, to help him with using our Google Drive (at his request!), and I’ll deal with the financial stuff after that. Handling everything won’t take long, I’m just in no hurry to log into my credit union account and see the actual MasterCard balance…heh.

After I do the bills I’ll take a break for lunch, start my laundry, then log into my work laptop for a little while to put a dent in the proposal stuff. I need to go through all of the reviewers’ comments and identify the information I think it’s reasonable to try to add for the final version, and compose “here’s what I need” emails for each individual in question. I’d like to have those ready to go for first thing Monday morning.

Tomorrow I’m having lunch with a friend, then meeting up with two fellow volunteers to share some of the events stuff I have (branded tablecloths, flyers, etc.). They co-chair one of our committees and are sponsoring an event next month and need some swag, and right now I have all of it. I’ll bring the whole big Rubbermaid container, and let them pick some things. Their event is the same day that I’ll be staffing a table at another event, but I have plenty of extras. We were originally going to do this at the recent in-person general membership meeting, but that wound up being Bailey’s surgery day and I couldn’t leave her home alone that night. So, I volunteered to go out to their place – about 40 min away – and it turns out I have a friend who also lives out that way, and she was free for lunch. I love it when a plan comes together.

Definitely. :blue_heart:

Howdy Y’all! I went to help with mowage, but it was all done by others over the past two days, so I ran my mouth for a bit and came back to da cave. Et a sammich and am now in chill mode. Since I woke up early, I foresee nappage shortly. I saw the royals get their shiny hats. Now I feel all caught up on current events.

We took the truck to MIL and went to the hardware store. Now we’re about to pull wire…

Happy anniversary! May you have many more that don’t involve tornadoes.

Today I have been retired for 365 days.

Was meowed awake at 0615, per usual. Turned on the telly, as the wife wanted to see some of the coronating goings on. I mostly mocked them all, as it all looks a bit silly, honestly. They do pomp pretty well, though.

Potatoes and fried eggs and bacon on this gray morning. Heading out to see son and granddaughters tomorrow, which is always fun. The girls are both at pre-sulky-bitch ages, which is nice while it lasts. Their cat, however, scares the crap out of me.

Our fasts have been broken. Mrs. L.A. wanted scrambled eggs and bacon, so I made that for her. I let her put the cheese on top of her eggs. I had a 2-egg omelette with a slice of Black Forest ham, 2 slices of pepper-jack cheese, and some Rotel’s salsa.

The Spousal Unit has to go to the next town down today. I’m going to get some different eye bolts and washers, some cable, some turnbuckles, and those U-block things to clamp the cables. I’ve got the spare battery for the drill charging.

Dishes are washing. I need to break down the boxes from the greenhouse so I can put them out for recycling tomorrow.

Had a really rough night. Between the nausea, the coughing (from vomiting) and the nightmares, I got little sleep. My eyes are bloodshot as hell; tonight’s gonna suck.

Cautiously nibbling some dry Cheerios and hoping those - and some apple juice - stay down.

Oh, there’s a minir crisis at Casa De Shoe. We ran outta kibble, and 1a.) I don’t wanna buy more when the Amazon package should arrive by Monday, and 2b.) I feel like hell and donwanna.

However, there’s still plenty of cans, so the solution has been to give Monkey an unprecedented amount of gooshy-food. He seems okay with the compromise.

The GirlChild is visiting and naturally wanted to see the new house. Unfortunately, we forgot our rose-colored glasses for this visit and discovered that the seller, Jack, who went into assisted living, had a dog that he either couldn’t, or wouldn’t take outside to do his business. All the carpet in the house needs to be replaced. We will replace it before moving in, of course. Goes a way towards explaining why the house was sold as-is and significantly under-value. (Ask was at least $50k under market. We bid $25k over ask, 'cause there were 3 other offers the first day it went on the market. We’ll still be money ahead. It’s just going to be a nuisance to get the work done. We will prolly replace the carpet in 2 of the bedrooms and replace the carpet in the rest of the house with solid flooring. Waterproof vinyl, most likely. And rugs. We like rugs.
I knew the universe would mess with us. We should have noticed it earlier.
I hope this is all.

Sorry you’re feeling poorly, Shoe. Get better stat.

Later.

Damn shoe you’ve really got the crud there. Wish I could help. {{Hugs}}. One of the advantages of remote hugs is we can’t catch whatever you’ve got. So that means you’ll get a lot more remote ones than you might have gotten if we were all neighbors.

@Bumbazine …After you pull up 100% of the carpet and padding, you’ll be able to assess how much of the subfloor (probably plywood or OSB if the house is newer) has been ruined and will need replacing too. Animal urine gets everywhere and damages everything it touches.

You may find problems as well even where the current floor is hard-surface. Animal pee on e.g. pergo planks or vinyl tile squares ends up seeping through the cracks to get under the hard flooring where it festers & eats the subfloor. If the dog liked to pee in corners you should be planning on ripping up drywall too. And baseboards. Not all of it, but some of it in a lot of places.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. As nasty a problem as this is to fix in an empty house, it’s far worse in a house full of your possessions and new carpeting that you suddenly notice smells horribly of stale dog piss every time it rains.

I once passed on buying a house that was otherwise excellent except for the two chain smokers who’d lived there for 20 years. We concluded the only way to get rid of the stink was to bulldoze the structure, scrape off the top couple feet of soil mixed with countless ciggie butts & dispose of that, truck in a whole fresh layer of dirt, then build a new house on the new dirt.

Nope, the discount on offer would not begin to pay for that little exercise. Left that one for somebody else.

Here at Casa LSL we ate breakfast, then made a quick groc run for some staples that had run out, and now a turkey is roasting in the oven. We’d bought it at either Thanksgiving or Christmas frozen when they were almost free intending to cook it eventually. Today is eventually. Looks & smells wonderful. Then came lunch of leftover BBQ ribs, and now bread is about to be started in the magic breadmaker, so the apartment will have competing wonderful smells. Which offsets the irritating noise of the washer & dryer doing their useful, if unfun, thing.

Sadly I must have run over something with my car as I now have a slow leak in one tire. I can keep up with it using the air compressor I always carry in the car. It only needs top-up every 3-4 days, and could go a weekish, at some risk to the tire’s longevity. Now I just need to find a weekday when I’m sure to be home to drop by my favorite car shop. Oh bother.

Since last night I have totally screwed up my sleep cycle. I wanted to go to bed early so I could get u really early and watch the coronation. Couldn’t sleep well though, so I frinally got into the recliner to rest and be sure I was in front of the TV at least. I enjoyed the ceremony but I started getting sleepy and actually missed the instant the crown went on Charles’ head. Finally went to bed after the balcony appearance. Tonight will probably be a problem, as my body doesn’t know what time it is.

LSL Guy I want to eat at your place!

Well, Cheerios and apple juice are (reluctantly) staying down, so I have clean socks & undies, a bandanna over my hair, and off to earn another couple of pennies.

It just started raining, a lovely gentle shower, so 1a.) I don’t hafta worry about my seedlings that just started coming up, and 2b.) if I work the drive-thru window (and I likely will) I can at least enjoy a nice, cool breeze of fresh air. Last night I was on the fryers, and I think I was overheating a bit.

Meanwhile, after all those April showers, here’s a few May flowers:

Two trips to the hardware store. I got four, 6-foot lengths of ⅛" cable, four turnbuckles, eight cable thimbles (teardrop-shaped grooved thingies for preventing the cable from making too great a bend), a dozen cable clamps (since that was all they had – I may get four more later), four eye bolts that are smaller than the ones I bought yesterday or the day before, and eight washers. At the same time, I returned the previously-purchased eye bolts and washers. So that was one trip.

I discovered I bought three of the correct turnbuckles, and one wrong one (no hook). I also thought I’d paid too much for the cables. I returned the wrong turnbuckle and got a right one, and I discovered I did indeed over-pay for the cable; $1.79 per foot instead of 79¢ per foot. So I got a $24 refund on my credit card. (I need to remember to bring my reading glasses into stores.)

As of right now, I’ve drilled four holes in the greenhouse, installed one eye bolt, and put the turnbuckle on one cable. Having a cuppa joe.

On the second trip to the hardware store I was intercepted by the guy who says he a drummer for Creed. (I know I mentioned him a few years ago.) He really likes to talk. In the time we chatted (about the house, harmonicas, music, and motorcycles) I could have been to the store and back.

Home. We got the wires run to the bow thruster battery charger and FCD installed the outlet and mounted the charger. It took a lot out of him, so we’ll do the stern wiring tomorrow. His mom and brother filled our truck with boxes and stuff to be stored in our garage, so I dropped him off at the apt to get the truck, and I came home via CVS to pick up his meds. I got home first. I WIN!!!

Chillage to follow.

Afternoon all. Soccer has been refereed (12U girls and 10U girls) and coached (we lost 0-4, haven’t won a game all year) in something between 64F and 78F clear skies…so probably a little sunburned and definitely a little tired. Re-hydrating now and probably head out to do mowage as there is still a good chance for rain tomorrow. And that should take care of any ambition I have left.

Flyboy, you should be getting well-known at that hardware store…and I’ve been caught at times by people who apparently have no other life that to talk your ear off…

{{shoe}}, hope you get feeling better soon.

Pilot, hope the tire keeps cooperating. And if you have to fly, may it be somewhere you find interesting.

Bumba, of your going to rip it up and replace it, make sure it’s dried out an no mold develops. There are companies that will put in driers/blowers to make sure the floor is ready.

Cookie, enjoy the visit and avoid the devil-feline.

Oopsie, I check my credit card balances every 5-7 days, just to make sure that there are no bogus charges. With the car work and a the hotel during cleanup work, it has gotten fairly large, albeit not quite to your level. I pay them on the 20th of each month, so need to discipline myself for a couple of weeks.

Taters, good timing on the breakfast.

OK, had about 90 minutes of rest, so heading out to tame the wild yard. Take care all.

OMG - Daughter just sent me a video. There was a spring festival at the fairgrounds and Roxy got up on the stage with some other kids and the belly dancers to dance. Then Tobias climbed up on stage and did his particular dance - it was hilarious!! I’d share it, but it was a PM and I don’t know how to do it. But that boy cracked me up!!!

Mrs W found some old W2’s with our full SSNs on them, so we don’t have to request new cards. Yay!
Next available DMV appointment is June 13th, so we’re California drivers for a few more weeks anyway.

The greenhouse is tied down at the corners. The tops of the cables are too long. I will get more cable clamps when they’re available, just to be safe, and then use bolt cutters to cut off the excess cables. Now we cross our fingers that the coming Spring and Autumn gales don’t blow out the panels, and that the cables hold the structure fast.

shoe, it sounds like some scrambled eggs would do both you and Monkey some good.

Taking a break to consume some pizza bites and a salad (makes it healthy, dontcha know), then I’ll do some cutting in the studio. I opened up the front door for a bit and Nelson decided to bark at anything he saw / heard through the screen, so I wound up closing it back up. Little turd. :stuck_out_tongue:

{{{shoe}}}

You can even eat meat at Friday’s!

Ditto…

One of Fluff’s kittens made an escape attempt this afternoon, but Lady SCAdian heard it and we went out to return it to its mother. Grey and white – looks rather like our Angel.

Spring has definitely sprung at last – 40% chance of rain tomorrow night, but other than that it’s supposed to be good weather all next week, with highs in the 60s and 70s, and lows in the 40s and 50s.

Lady SCAdian’s car is making horrible noises, which seem to be emanating from the rear wheels. Can’t get it in to the shop until Wednesday, so I’ll be without a car for a few days while she’s at work.

We decided to try ordering meals from Every Plate. We’re getting double rations – four servings – but dividing them into six to provide leftovers for lunch. Quite satisfactory so far.
