(Old) I owe, I owe, so off to Mump I go - A Tax Season MMP

We can choose two of three floating holidays: MLK Day, Presidents’ Day, and Juneteenth. I’m taking all three. And the last Friday (or a couple of first Mondays) every month. That will burn up the 90-hour surplus of PTO that carried over from last year (even though it’s use-or-lose – El Jefe is pretty cool that way). Now how to I use the four weeks I have for 2024?

Anyway, I’m taking Monday off.

Continous good vibes to FCM and uour family.

8 ferrets, hoping it gets up to the predicted 25 tomorrow.I love that Weather Underground characterizes this as “much warmer.”

Much laundry has ensued, thanks.

Storage space is becoming an issue - when I was putting stuff away the other day in my closet, the shelf two planks across a pair of brackets failed. The planks had curved juuuuust a wee bit … but it was enough for them to not be long enough anymore.

I have some odds and ends in the basement; need to take measurements and then go poke around & see if there’s a suitable board or two, so I can put away all these nice, clean blankets.

Speaking of basement, I did fetch up a larger tank, with its lid. Gonna get that set up over the next coupla days & then move my colony so they have more space.
One of the girls is quite rotund, so we’ll see if she pops out a litter before, or after, the move.

I’m “meh” about cold sandwiches, although I do like cheese (and cold cuts!) on Triscuits or similar crackers.

And I moved here with a big-ass huge honkin’ fridge. The freezer is quite adequate, and currently stuffed with Stouffers and similar quick, easy meals.

Currently having some hot egg drop soup (last of the leftovers from last night) and will probably slice up an apple to have with cheese and peanut butter.
Triscuits are happening tonight already, too, with butter and gochujang sauce (a slightly spicy, slightly sweet Korean sorta-like-ketchup condiment) or with slices of cheese.
I found butterkase locally! Yum.

Weather Underground shows 25 Ferrets at 1600 tomorrow up here too. Probably won’t thaw the pipe, but it’s better than the 10 Ferrets we have right now.

I went outside earlier with a long-sleeve T-shirt, a sweater, a hoodie, and an RAF ‘Irvin’ jacket and I was still shivering!

:rofl:100

:open_mouth:

If Jim Cantore is standing in front of a closed Waffle House, even Cthulhu is evacuating.

Thoughts sent

Well hey, I found a semi-suitable board; it’s not perfect, but it’s a start.
Put away about a quarter of a metric buttload of socks and work shirts, and have one last load in the dryer - it has a towel and a thick bathrobe in it, among other things & is taking for-fucking-ever to dry.

… who?

{ crawls back under rock }

Next time, try adding pants to the ensemble; see if that helps.

I’m heavy-hearted. Doc now says my SIL won’t get the sight back in the eye that had the detached retina. The surgery has a very high success rate (like 95%). He can’t see the retina too well because of the “bandage” on her cornea, so I don’t understand just how he arrived at that prognosis. Her corneal ulcer hasn’t healed yet (also the diabetes in action), so she may need a transplant. I’ve had four. I may need to go out there if docs decide to go that route.

Her other eye is at risk.

Diabetes is a terrible, terrible disease.

People keep mentioning this, so I googled him and found this video from yesterday: Thundersnow. If I had access to The Weather Channel (TWC), I’d probably be watching him right now. He’s so excited about the weather.

Besides the snow itself, I remember watching a lot of TWC during the 96 blizzard, when I was in northern New Jersey. Central Switzerland doesn’t get the same kind of exciting weather. Which is probably a good thing.

I hope tomorrow (already today  ) brings good news and warmer weather.

I know where the party is! Gin is something I can take or leave, but cranberry anything has to be tried.

I’m sorry Nellie. :people_hugging:

We’re still at just below freezing. Fortunately it’s been dry enough so most of the sidewalks are clear. The building site across the street already had the lights on at 7:00 and I hear some noise. Probably no concrete trucks today, but getting the forms ready for Monday. Glad I have a job that keeps me indoors.

Today is running errands, including dropping off a watch for a new battery and seeing if they have a suggestion for turning it into a pocket watch.

Also need to take out the recycling and go to three different grocery stores.

But only after I make french toast for breakfast.

Happy Saturday!

I think some of your ferrets are here - it’s 52° at 6AM. The rain overnight was apparently ahead of a warm front. So weird. Tho by the day after tomorrow, our highs will be in the 30s for a stretch of days. Long-range forecast still has a decent day on Thurs for when we leave, and sunny in Dallas where we change planes. So…

Apparently they kept my mom in the hospital overnight. I messaged my sister about contacting the embassy there for help, but they’re closed on Sat. I may try calling the State Dept traveler line and see if anything can be done from here.

I’m a bit ticked at my sister - she was whining about how this is affecting her. I’m hoping it’s just a stress response and not that she’s more upset about her lost vacation than about her 90-y/o mother being hospitalized in a foreign country. I hope they sprang for the higher level trip insurance - it should reimburse them for the travel expenses home, which should be on the high side. Now I’m having visions of getting a message on our cruise when there’s no way to get home.

No I’m not whining - just worried. Not sure what’s up for today, but it started with discovering my loaf of Italian bread was all moldy. Dammit. At least I had some whole wheat in the freezer. It can only get better, right?

Happy Saturday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 52 and N.O.S. for the day. The agenda calls for a day of sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. Nowhere we either need or want to be which is fine by me. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich stuff and so forth.

MOOOOOOM sorry for your mom’s hospitalization in Martinique. Glad to know it’s not too serious. Hope mom and sis can get back home soonest.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This is the perfect type of weather to not fucking eat Tide Pods. Seriously, just stop with the fucking dumb internet challenges.” It’s sunny out there, and I have never been tempted to eat a laundry pod, so I think I’m safe on that score.

Moooom sorry to hear about your mum’s hospitalisation, and your sister’s strange attitude. I hope today’s news is better and they can get themselves home quickly.

nellie so sorry to hear about your sister’s eye, sending you both a big hug :people_hugging:

flyboy ouch on the coffee accident! And Mrs LA’s spilled milk. I am joining the club, last night I managed to drop the water filter jug and break it - in my defense, 'im indoors had taken the lid off and didn’t put it back properly so when I filled the kettle, there was water all over the place. Realised it was the lid not seated right, tried to fix it and it slipped out of my hand.

I’ve had a busy day so far - got up at a reasonable time, fed the cats and cleaned litter trays, then had a cuppa and went to the gym. Did two classes, stopped off on the way home to get the car washed, then stopped at the pet store for three large bags of cat litter.

Home for a quick shower and more tea, now it’s time to go into town for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, errands (including buying a new filter jug), need petrol as the warning light’s about to beep at me, and then home for an afternoon of domestic drudgery.

'im indoors is making pulled pork tacos for dinner tonight. Pork is in the slow cooker already so that will be doing its thing all day, and he’ll be making the tacos later. Time to get tidied up to be amongst the Great Unwashed now, I need food!

Another snow storm bust, at least in our part of the city. Lots of wind and cold, but minimal snowfall. What a weird winter. Hashbrowns and eggs this morning, then on to making cookies and maybe a meatloaf.

Musta sent it our way - it is comin’ DOWN out there. (And on a diagonal sometimes, too.) The big, puffy lake effect stuff, that looks soooooooooo pretty - and sounds so wonderfully muffled - but damn is it gonna suck to shovel out the drive.

Ugh, maybe we’ll close early again tonight. I don’t know that they’ve ever done that two nights in a row, though.

Thanks for the idea! Having a hot cuppa m’self while watching the snowglobe outside, fortifying myself with more crackers/apples/cheese (hey, they were conveniently directly on front of me on my table) before resuming hibernation.

The tablet that FCD ordered from Da Jungle that was supposed to be here last Tues just left Seattle this morning. We’re picking up a replacement at Target this morning, then cancelling the other one.

Sister just texted - Mom was moved to another unit last night and my sister won’t be able to see her till 3 today. So they’re not getting home tonight. That’s all I know for now. Anyway, off to Target and Michael’s and Best Buy and the dog groomer…

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 16F with an expected high of 24F and clouds. We never reached the predicted high temp yesterday. It topped out at 21F and then descended. However, there must have been a slight warming up for a minute overnight because all of the snow disappeared; not that there was much to begin with.

I don’t have much on the agenda for today; I may go get some dog treats, but that’s probably the extent of my planned travels.

I went to the HOA meeting yesterday, but there were only three of us there total, so the meeting was short. I paid my dues, we discussed some ongoing issues with proposed solutions, talked about our dogs, and that was that. Over and done in 30 minutes, maybe less.

nellie, I’m so sorry about your sister’s eye. I know that must be difficult news to hear for everyone involved.

FCM, I hope the news regarding getting your mother home is better today. Maybe your sister is just stressed out with all that’s going on, and it just came out the wrong way.

shoe, I love Butterkäse. I was lucky enough to find some at Whole Foods a while back. I’m sure there is some at the German deli clear over in Lakewood, but, like Whole Foods, it’s a bit of a drive just for some cheese. I mean, I love me some cheese, but I’m not interested in driving all over the world to get it.

Although I’m happy about the cold, I wish we would have had some real snow to accompany it. But that’s life on the west side of the PNW: much ado about proposed storms, and then everything fizzles to nothing. It definitely got windy, and I know there were power outages up Johnny’s way.

I just saw your update about Mom, FCM. I’m sorry she hasn’t been able to come home yet. I hope there is better news later.

Okay, it’s puppy breakfast time. My best to all.

Added a Toaster Strudel (don’t judge!) to the morning’s food assortment. Hey, at least it’s breakfast-ish. Sliding back towards sleepy-ville, especially now that Monkey is sprawled across my thigh, being all warm and purr-y.

Peering out the window, the roads still look pretty okay. Nobody’s fishtailing at the stop sign by my house … though most folks aren’t bothering with a full stop, either.
As expected, it’s getting in/out of my driveway, and then in/out of the parking lot at work, that’s gonna be the challenge.

Last winter, TweedleDee and TweedleDumber had to come out and push me off the street and into the parking lot … 'bout the only useful thing they ever did for me, and I can 128% guarantee they were sent by Sweet Manager and then told themselves and each other how macho they were.

They’re both long gone, thank gawd, but now who’s gonna push? I may wind up leaving it on a side street - we’ll see.

Was briefly confuzzled, since I know you don’t live near where I used to live, which also features a Lakewood.
I swear, there must be a “Lakewood” area in approx. 54% of American municipalities.

NOTE: all percentages in the above post were pulled straight outta where the sun don’t shine.

Wait. Whut?

9º now, but the weather guessers at TWC predict we’ll be up to 21º by noon.

Yawn. 6:30am wakeup Saturday morning to take my kid to swim class. And Winter has finally come to my corner of Michigan so the roads aren’t… fantastic. My beloved husband got up early to shovel and clear off my car, so points to him.

Wee Weasel is doing well at swim class, but a couple of things are holding him back. He won’t stick his head all the way underwater because he doesn’t like the feeling in his ears, and he can kick really well but does not grok paddling to stay afloat. I’m trying not to make it my problem .. this is why I pay people to teach him.

My husband started attending a support group for parents of autistic children, but we don’t think it’s quite what we’re looking for. A lot of people in those support groups have kids with severe issues and giftedness is not very common. I told him what we really need is a twice exceptional support group, for parents of kids who have a neurodevelopmental or learning disability but who are also gifted. I think we want to feel we can celebrate his incredible potential without anyone downplaying his limitations.

I think he needs it more than I do.

He’s also trying to talk me into two birthday parties now, Og help me. One for the ABA kids and another for the family. I don’t even want one. If I had to pick an animal to represent me, I would be a snail. I’m goopy on the inside and spend a lot of time in my shell, and that’s how I like it. I think my son is much the same way. My husband in contrast always wants to be doing something, or seeing people, it’s just exhausting. Right now I’m really struggling to figure out how to balance our different needs.

I’m so sorry.

Well I don’t know your sister, but that does sound pretty stressful. Some people hold up better than others.

Morning all. Indoor soccer is on the schedule from 2-6pm, both coaching and refereeing, so that should keep me busy and out of trouble. Thinking about going to the gym for a little bit this morning, we’ll see how I feel about it around 45 minutes from now. 30F heading for 46F but all the rain has gone away so that is good. Need to do some readings on water usage, make sure that leak is gone away.

FCM, hope Mom is doing better today and can make it home soon.

Preach it, Sister!!!

Looks like all the snow and ice is out of the Middle and eastern states, just make it through the cold now. Be safe all.

shoe, I do laundry when I run out of underwear, which should be sometime this week.

{{{nellie}}}, for your sister. Hope something can be done for her, but I agree, diabetes is an insidious disease. Nephew was diagnosed when he was still a teenager and while he is doing well with the medications, I do worry about him.

And off to…something. Have a good Sattiday all.

Does he have any clue how overwhelmed you are, or care?

I’d tell him “you want these parties, YOU make it happen. My plate is already overflowing”.
