(Old) Imagine a world with no MMP!

Morning all. The back still hurts when I turn in bed, but it is getting better, I can cough now without agony (it’s weird, I can walk or sit without discomfort, bend and stoop and pick up weights, but put me horizontal in a bed and the whole back seems to tighten up and scream at me if I try to shift position). Anyway, prescriptions have been taken on an empty stomach and will fill said stomach in about 45 minutes. Nothing big on the agenda, might even get some <gasp!!> house-irk done.

Interesting comments about attending sports events, especially baseball. I’ve thought about going to an NFL game of one of the two teams fairly close to me, but looking at the prices plus travel plus parking and concessions…why?

Fruminous glad things are going well for Izzy, hope that she adjusts to school in the United States well. And seen the LoveSac commercials, they look comfortable but the pricing is a little high…maybe when the day comes I finally move to an apartment I’ll consider it.

Great name for a band..

not to mention Moose and Squirrel and Chip and Dale…

swampy, I should do a load of towels today, we’ll see if I can be motivated to do so.

Pilot, my nearest Major league team is Atlanta and that’s about a 4 hour drive for me, so I really would have to be motivated to go.

Only problem with that is some may add an ‘r’ to it and that would not be a good thing…

FCM, how does she take to losing? I have seen some 7-year olds melt-down on the soccer field because someone took the soccer ball from them or they missed a shot at the goal, but most just continue on as nothing special happened.

And need to check Not Always Right for my morning grins and play a couple of games of Spider Solitare before breaking fast. Have a good 2sDay all.

I had the same thought when whoever up near the top of the thread coined that word.

Apart from faking anger, she’s cool with it. Her parents never deliberately let her win at anything, so good for them. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometime it rains.

Regarding sports, the first football game I attended was the Baltimore Colts because my cousin was a cheerleader. This was when cheerleaders wore little skirts and long sleeved sweaters, so a while ago. I also went to an exhibition game in Jacksonville probably in the late 80s - before there were Jaguars. When I was stationed in San Diego in the mid-70s, I went to a couple of hockey games because my friend Nita was a fan of Andre La Criox and he played for the San Diego Mariners. I think I may have gone to a Baltimore Bullets game eons ago, too. So I’ve had a taste of assorted pro sports.

I actually enjoy baseball, tho it’s more fun in a minor league venue - they do fun stuff between innings. Hockey was fun, tho I never did understand the rules. Football and basketball did nothing for me. I do think I’d like to see a rugby match, but that’s highly unlikely hereabouts. Oh, and I went to the greyhound races when we lived in Florida - boring!!

It’s nearly 9, my sweetie is still abed, and I’m sitting here in robe and slippers. Go RDOS!!!

I was going to say that a major difference with our experience is that we have a daughter the same age as the homestay girl so they entertained each other much more.

I went with SenWife to her boss’s home. It’s absolutely mazing and easily costs more than 10 times our budget, but it gave me some ideas.

Also went and helped my friend. He was looking good today. I hope he keeps doing well.

I did more house fixxen today. Found some wood rot that will need to be replaced.

Whoa. That … that was weird. What time is it? What day is it? For that matter, what year?

Holy crap. I’ve been gone for how long? Fifteen years?! What kind of time-distorting black hole event horizon is behind that ficus, anyway? How did I even get back here? WHAT’S GOING ON?!

Okay, okay. Deep breaths. Calm. Zen. Waves on the beach. Kittens. The dulcet tones of Morgan Freeman narrating anything.

Whew. I’m okay. I’m okay.

So, like, I’m glad the Dope is still here. I’m even seeing some familiar faces, and FCM is still doing the MMP (which I am late to, for previously explained reasons), so while the boards may have received a bit of a facelift, not everything has changed in the decade and a half I’ve been gone.

So, um … HI … again. Hi.

Hi. I was wondering who was behind the ficus.welcome back!

**

We have one more day of getting ready before our guests arrive. The water heater arrives this morning.

Good morning.

The sun has barely risen, and it’s 58°F, and mostly clear. We’ll have a mixture of sun and clouds this morning, switching to mostly overcast skies by late afternoon, and a high temperature of 79°F.

Lily and Boo, congrats on your milestone markers. I’m so glad you’re both still here.

As for the MMP, not being here, I would miss it, because like all of you, I like keeping up on the minutiae of our lives. I took a break for a while, but then came back, and except for some new additions, it was like I never left.

Metal Mouse, I hope your back continues to improve.

Fruminous, I’m glad things are going well with Izzy.

The last time I was at a major league baseball game was in the late 90s, maybe early 2000s. I used go to the Mariners games with a neighbor who had tickets. This was during the time of Edgar Martinez, Bret Boone, Ken Griffey, and Randy Johnson.

I also got to see a couple of Seahawks games (one in the Kingdome so many, many years ago), and one in the new stadium. I really don’t remember much about either of those games.

During the latter half of the 70s, I got to see a few Seattle Sounders games, back when Pele played for the New York Cosmos. Those were fun games.

I’m toying with the idea of bathing the pups today, which is always an exercise in both my husband and getting completely soaked, and sopping up a bunch of water from the bathroom floor. If I could count on the pups not escaping us and running to the dirt, I’d bathe them on the patio. Unfortunately, their portion of the yard has very little lawn left, so we bathe them in the house.

If we don’t bathe the pups, I have an outdoor storage chest that requires assembly, so I might work on that. And, if that doesn’t happen, I could run down to Home Depot to purchase some sand, gravel, and paving bricks to create a new border for my front garden beds.

While none of these options sound particularly exciting, they all need to be done. We shall see.

Welcome back, Mindfield.

Alrighty, time to get on with the day. I hope you all have a good day.

And what compelled you to return? Did it come to you in a dream? Was it a soft whisper in the quiet of your room? Were you looking at ancient bookmarks? You’re most welcome here, but we expect an extraordinary tale of adventures and, um, I dunno, snacks?

Do you have the option of taking them somewhere? We’ve got a pet supply store nearby that has a DIY pet-bathing area. We never needed it because Higgs fit in the basement deep sink, but if we’d had bigger beasts, it would have been the choice. That or the groomer - let them deal with it.

Back from erranding. Our CVS has a mega-sucky parking lot made suckier by far too many of their idiot customers. And that’s not going into those who insist on backing in… < grrrrrrr > And if you back in, that grrrrr is directed at you, too. Quit it. I have spoken!!!

Time for rollsucking. That should bring me to lunch time. I really need to plan a few days of serious carpet cleaning - at least the traffic areas. But not these drizzly days - it’d take too long to dry. As soon as we have sunny days when I can open windows, the carpets shall be done! I hope.

A random post I recalled from here from many years ago popped into my head so I thought I’d try and find it, which prompted me to see if the SDMB was still around and active, and, as it happened, it was, much to my surprised. I hemmed and hawed about logging back in, wasn’t sure if there’d be any of the old timers here, but it turned out there was, and there was even an MMP, so that settled it. Out of the wormhole and up from the ficus I popped.

As for adventures, well … um. Kind of dull, really. I had to move house to some temporary lodging an ungodly distance away from my work which necessitates a minimum of 5 hours of commute time daily. This temporary situation has now lasted three years, but I will likely be moving again soon. In the mean time it’s been work, home, a little (very) playtime, and just taking everything day by day for the most part. I survived the pandemic, and only managed to catch COVID once – after the pandemic, it was agreed upon by all heads of state, was over, despite it still raging on. I still work for the same company I did when I first joined here, if in a different, somewhat higher up capacity. I’m older, crotchetier, have found more aches and pains in more places than I thought my body had, and discovered last year that I have, at a bare minimum, ADHD, which explains so damn much about my life.

Oh, snacks. I have snacks. Lots of snacks. Whatcha want? Popcorn? Chips? Cookies? Potato latkes with sour cream?

Il fait très humide aujourd’hui! Went for a walk without checking the conditions and nearly melted. At least the AC is working well today.

Niece is supposed to come over after her ER shift today, but sometimes her shift is so horrific that she cancels and just goes home to her quiet place. I was thinking of going to a taco joint that gets good reviews, but it’s too bloody moist out.

Thank you for this info, I hadn’t known about this. I checked my tires this morning just in case they had installed the wrong tires. It doesn’t have the symbol you describe, but it does say “RUN FLAT” across the sidewall twice. So either that guy was a complete idiot and can’t even read, or he really thought he could pull one over.

If you’re not planning to return to that shop, you might want to have a word with the manager.

One of us!! One of us!!!

For those who are interested - pics of the stuff to be installed in our boat:

Generator deck - port side. The strainer gets raw water from under the boat and feeds it to the generator heat exchanger for cooling. The black thing on top is the muffler.

Same deck, starboard side. Raw water comes from under the boat, thru the strainer to the pump, to the manifold that feeds the 3 air conditioners aboard. They’re small a/c units, one in each cabin.

The tanks - the longest dimension is 48”; approx 36” x 14” are the other 2. They weigh about 150# each. Made from 1/4” aluminum. The sloped surface is the bottom of the lower tanks, fitted into the shape of the hull. Pics of the installation coming after, well, they’re installed.

My sweetie does good designs, and he found a welder who does amazing work. So now we just have to wait till there’s a crew available to install. Next week, we hope.

And now, chillage.

So today dumpster fire was the Mez, which got slammed late. So they pulled me off the 100 and 200, C off the 300 slide, L.T. out of Smalls, and add a couple of Dispatch people to work it all. They put placeholder people on the 100 and 300 Slides, but I had a mess to clean up on the 200. But all that got out, along more than a few of the rewraps. I managed to find the tracking number from some lady’s bookshelf’s PO#. I was even out before noon. Naptime.

I’ve gone to a bunch of AAA baseball games. Mainly for the beer.

I’ve gone to one Carolina Panthers game, mainly because a friend won tickets for box seats, so all I had to pay for was parking and gas. Otherwise $$$.

Always panic early.

Welcome back!

Yep, Mumper material alright!

I hope he said tanks for that.

Thanks! Super sexy! /nerd

thank you for the verger story last week. that was quite the turn up!

welcome home, mindfield! that commute sounds horrific! mine is 20ish minutes. soon to be longer due to public transport cutbacks. they are expecting about 200k more vehicles on the road next week.

philly has hit a bit of a cool down, we went from heatwave to low 70’s.

before the player’s strike i would go to fenway once a year for a game. refresh that boston accent. now my office has season tickets, sometimes we get to go to an afternoon game.

i would go to an nfl game when miami would come to town. the last time i went was a preseason game prepandemic.

no nba games, and one phantom’s game for hockey.

my very boring life will be active for a few nights, dinner out tonight, then building meetings on weds. and thurs.. oy! lager will not be amused.

I’m having an issue with Outlook. When I copy text from a word document (a form that I use a lot) and paste it into an email, I get extra spacing between lines. (This is like the issue with Discourse, when you have that slider on the left set to ‘A’.) I asked our admin if I was doing something wrong, and she contacted IT. It seems this started happening about the same time that we lost our Code 2 signatures (which is also being worked on). IT called, and we were on the phone for over 45 minutes. The issue was not resolved. But I did copy a signature from an old email and created a new (not Code 2) signature in Outlook. So now at least I have a signature.

But… This delayed my lunch break. I’ll clock out in about five minutes and go for a short walk.

Wifey, RN texted me that one of her patients gave her some fresh corn. So we’re having salmon pinwheels and corn (I presume, on the cob) for dinner tonight.

And what will Goo enjoy this evening?

Water heater guys are here.

Did a load of laundry, fixed a couple of soccer issues, napped and ate a bacon sammich and am now taking a break at the gym, so a fairly active day so far for me. Will go back out tonight and see how practices are going. So at least I am staying out of trouble (one hopes).

I wish I could say I was happy to be part of this group, but the ache in my back is telling me to shut up now.

Thank you! I’m rather glad to be back. Probably gonna take me a bit to get back into the vibe of this place, but that’s part of the fun.
