(Old) It's A Brand New MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S. Today is laundry day. I can hardly contain myself. Actually OYKW will probably take care of laundry duty cause I may take care of mowage. Been two weeks since the last mowage and what with the cooler temp, this mornin’ would be a good mornin’ to do so. Then again maybe I won’t. Sup shall be grilled chikin strips, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Taters sorry your son has had such a sucky time of it recently. Hope he’s on the mend soonest. Belated happy bd to Mr. Taters.

BooFae we anxiously await tomorrow’s bin report!

Sticky_Buns you’ll do great in the new gig.

MetalMouse glad you got shot. We need to get this done.

MOOOOOOM I remember the chickin fat song.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

After my boo-boo and its ensuing booster, I remembered that we both got them about 6 years ago because my niece was terrified that anyone might get germies on her newborn. Yes, I’m mocking her - there is much that is unhinged in that little twig of the family tree that I shan’t try to share.

While we haul our own garbage and recycling, many in this neighborhood have pick-up. And that pretty much occurs pre-dawn. It’s especially charming when the weather permits open windows - nothing like being awakened by the racket of a truck smooshing the neighbor’s waste so they can cram in the next neighbor’s waste.

Granted, there would have to be changes, but to state that life is over seemed a tad extreme and fatalistic. It would suck mightily for me if I had to rely on others for transport, but I like to think I could adjust and I wouldn’t become suicidal because I had to wait for a ride. I dunno - maybe I’m projecting, or maybe after 5 or 6 years, I’m tired of her whining about not being able to drive? Who knows…?

We got some rain overnight - not a deluge, but nice steady showers, near as I can tell. I had a good sleep, but I did wake around 2-something and heard the pitter-patter, and this morning, it’s wet out, but not puddling. I think this is what we’re in for most of today - at least I hope so. I quit trusting any of the weather sites - I’m convinced they consult Magic-8-Balls for their forecasts. It’ll rain, or it won’t. Whatevah!

FCD and his mom have appts at 10:30 and 11 for shots, but I know when they show up together, they’ll do them together. My appt is at noon. I suppose I could have done them all at once, but there was some miscommunication and then it was too late. No biggie - this will work.

Beyond that, I have no plans. I may venture to the basement and try to apply some order. Or not. I don’t know. Indecision is the key to flexibility, you know.

Happy Tuesday!!

Good morning.

It’s dark, partly cloudy and 50F. The day is expected to be generally cloudy, and temperatures will top out at 65F.

It’s also my bin day, so my husband rolled the recycle and garbage bins down last night. I have to remind him, or it won’t get done. Even with my reminders, there have been times he’s forgotten, and I’ve had to roll them out the next morning before pick-up. Since I’m generally up well before 6:00 a.m., it’s not really a big deal.

Shoe, collapsing lungs aren’t usually a thing, but he had his appendix removed around a month ago, and they didn’t send him home with breathing exercises or a machine. He had to go to urgent care around two weeks ago for the same problem, and he was sent home with exercises and a machine. He thought he was back to normal and didn’t continue the exercises. The docs figure that the higher elevation in Denver also contributed to the current round.

One of our interviewees didn’t show up yesterday and claimed he didn’t get the invite. We all show he accepted the invite, but whatever. He’s on deck for 7:00 a.m. this morning. Of the two we interviewed yesterday, I much prefer one over the other.

I have much to do today and tomorrow and need to find time to write my significant accomplishments for the year. Let’s face it: I have much to do daily and don’t foresee any of that changing. At any rate, I hate writing those things, but fortunately, I saved my accomplishment write-ups from the second and third quarters, so I can tweak that document and add the fourth quarter.

One of our employees sent notice to her supervisor that the 30th would be her last day. It’s pretty bad timing, at least concerning being able to backfill for her slot, and I’m not sure if that employee is leaving for another federal job or resigning from federal service. I need to work that out and have her burn up some comp time. Just another thing to handle…

I was thinking about taking some time off this week, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I can’t next week because our new MPA starts on Monday, and I need to be there for at least the first week or so. It also means commuting to the office every day.

JtC, I’m glad GG and Jolene are back together. That picture is adorable!

I think I’d lose my everlovin’ mind if I couldn’t drive myself around, honestly. Public transportation around here is not great, and it takes forever to get anywhere. Additionally, I don’t like to ask for help and prefer to do things my way and on my timetable. I don’t expect people to share kowtow to my timetable; thus, I do for myself. Plus, I’m usually the one helping out.

Okay, on with the day.

When I reach the end of my ability to drive I have no idea what I will do. It would be catastrophic and life changing.

Not thinking about it does a body good.

Morning all. Slept until around 7am, then did Spider Solitare for awhile after taking my pills, and have just finished my first apple of the day. I have a dead watch battery, one of my key fobs is reporting a low battery, and I need to replace the battery in one of my backup systems, so a trip to the Batteries and Bulbs store is probably in the morning future. Gym and Soccer coaching will remain the primary activities for the day. And I guess I’ll unload the dishwasher sometime… 66F now heading to 86F and that looks like the standard for the rest of the week.

JtC, nice picture. Bet GG is happy again.

Shots or Arms?

Lucky, a nice, creative way to solve a problem/ Happy walking!

Sari, glad the timing worked out, I would have gone for the steak, but sounds like he has a pretty nice place to work.

FCM, arms have stopped hurting, so guess the shots have taken effect. Hope all yours go smoothly.

shoe, pretty sure you’re right, Subway has a larger assortment of veggies. I get my subs with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and pickle only…since I’m always there early on Mondays, the regular crew starts making mine soon as I come in. Hope the new knife is nice.

boo fae, my Thorsday trash pickup is like that; if I forget to put it out on Wednesday evening they are there bright and early, if I do put it out the night before, it’s 11am before they show up.

Taters, best wishes to son, hope he keeps improving. And that late interviewee will really have to impress after that start…which I doubt they can. I think I gave my workplace at least 3 months notice when I decided to retire, since I was at a GS-13 job with some moderately important responsibilities, they needed the time to replace and train the new person.

Me too. Of course Uber and maybe some services would be available, but more likely I’ll be looking for (or hopefully already at) a place like cookies that provides some flexibility.

And onward into the morning. Have a good 2sDay all.

Am I really that philosophical about the whole not-driving thing? Yeah, it will suck mightily as I live in the boonies with no public transportation nearby. So that means I can’t just run to the store or a restaurant on a whim. So it will be life-changing, but moving here from Florida was life-changing. Getting out of the Navy was life-changing. Buying a house was life-changing. I worked thru those things, and when the time comes, I’ll work thru finding rides when I need them. Am I really that unique that I can figure out how to deal? Or is the fact that I hate to drive a part of it?

That’s on my agenda, too. Someone closed the dishwasher last night so the dishes didn’t dry (I refuse to use the heated dry - they air-dry just fine.) I popped it open when I got up and I’ll just have to grab a dishtowel. First world problem.

MIL went back to sleep after FCD woke her, so I canceled her shot appointment. Then she got up. I told her I’d canceled and that she could go back to bed. Naturally, she’s up getting dressed… in the bathroom, which is the WORST place for her to be getting dressed, considering all the hard surfaces in there. Soooooo frustrating! Anyway, CVS always has lots of appointment slots, so getting her rescheduled is no biggie. Plus, frankly, I think we should be asking the hospice nurse about it.

I’m clean. I’m dressed. Ready to face the day. The rainy, dreary day…

awww, so happy together.

the closest mine get is the picture next to my name.

cute dragon.

We’re instructed to have our bins out by 6.30am and I used to leave it until I actually got up because they never came round that early in the past. Now the routes appear to have changed so we get ours collected earlier - I’m not getting caught out again! We can take stuff to the household waste place but their opening hours mean I can pretty much only get there at the weekends.

Certainly for a surburanite in this country, it would be massively overstated! Yes, you’d find it harder to get to places easily but it wouldn’t be impossible to get around. Plus when you’re over 60, you get a free bus pass to use after 9.30am every day so it’s not like it would be massively expensive to go out. Getting a cab home from the supermarket is much more common than it used to be too, so that would probably be my biggest weekly expense.

I don’t suppose they’ll accept “keeping everywhere running, doing everyone else’s jobs for them, and clearing up all the mess you make” as a valid summation of your accomplishments?

Swampy the recycling bin was collected without incident, the neighbours’ bin was shuffled around a bit and they did poke through the stuff on top but didn’t find anything untoward

I am almost done with irk for today. I’ve accomplished some stuff, and ticked a couple of things off my list for the day. Tomorrow I’ve been asked to do some training for a newbie in a different part of our College so she’ll be coming to our office in the afternoon for an hour or so. I’ll have to set aside some time in the morning to get some ideas together for what to show her.

Once I log off here today, I need to make campus food for a couple of days and then sort out my list for grocery shopping tonight. Then there will be cats to feed and other chores before I get to spend a bit of time on the sofa with Shadow. He was pleased to see that I went to the pet store in my lunch break and came back with three big bags of cat litter, and four packs of his favourite treats. No pooing in my favourite boots now!

I’ve wondered at times how the expense of occasional cab rides compares with the expense of owning and operating a car. I suspect if I needed a cab once a week, it would be much less than gas, maintenance, and insurance.

FCD got his shots. I’ll leave in about 45 minutes to get mine. The dishwasher has been emptied. And so it goes.

Good morning, all! My father will be getting here at around noon, which means I’ll need to jump in the shower and get dressed right after I post this. I’ll also take one more look around the house, but I think everything’s in good “dad visit” condition (including moving a small family heirloom he gave me from my bedroom to the living room, where he’ll be able to see it).

The big work “town hall” starts at 4:30, so by the time Dad and I finish lunch and he heads back to Baltimore I won’t have much time to kill before I need to change and head to that. I should be home again by 7:00.

Yesterday I started and finished the Lego message board; it only took ~3 hours, so I did it in one sitting. Here’s the updated Lego Corner:

I decided against assembling the Christmas decorations early, but tomorrow or Thursday I might make a trip to a nearby buy/sell/trade store and see if they have any retired sets I’m interested in. Or maybe I’ll just, yanno, read or something for the rest of the week.

I’m glad you finally felt up to saying hey!

I figure I can free up 2-3 shelves by making sets share (like I did with the Lambo and 'Vette), but yeah: I’m gonna have an issue at some point.

I’m exactly the opposite: I like tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato soup, etc., but can’t stand the taste of raw tomatoes. Heh!

When I went to my county’s election officer training the other week, I learned that there are now two sections of the same-day voter registration form where cross-outs – or scribbles of any kind – won’t be allowed. That wasn’t a rule before. People often start to write the wrong thing (or in the wrong space), so this’ll just add a level of fun to November’s proceedings.

What you see displayed – including the new message board – equals ~27,000 pieces.

I love Vionic slippers and sandals! A decade or so ago I was having some really bad plantar fasciitis – almost crippling – and what saved me was starting to wear their sandals around the house (vs going barefoot). But my feet also often get too hot in their regular slippers, especially in the spring/fall, so a couple years ago I got a slightly different style of these: having the toes open helps regulate the heat just enough for me. But I still wear their sandals a lot. I used to love their shoes, too, and I have several older pairs of Vionics, but lately I find that the styles just don’t appeal to me much.

D’awwww! :two_hearts:

It has been raining all day. There was even a thunderstorm at 0400. Working the slide went OK, was caught up enough to help load.

Arms I got. But I’m always up for shots(tequila or flu).

They empty the recycling dumpster on Thursday. I always do recycling daily. Mainly out of habit because Gordie used to fish empty beer cans out of the bin and carry them around the apartment if I didn’t. Of course some twatwaffles toss garbage in it, because they apparently can’t see the giant yellow trash compactor next to it.

I agree. Most of the people in our building do not drive. They have to rely on an employed van driver (which position has been very difficult to keep filled over the past year), a relative, or a grocery delivery service. But their freedom of movement is still very restricted. I really hope I can stay compos mentis and physically able right up to the end.

I’ve been shot (in the arm) - Covid and flu. I need to ask my doc if I should get RSV also, so she’ll be getting a message soon. It’s started raining again here - a nice gentle shower - and it may just continue for a while. Or not. What do the weather sites know anyway!!!

FCD will be taking his mother to the podiatrist shortly to get her toenails trimmed. Every time she does this, she tells us that Medicare will cover the cost for us, and every time I tell her we don’t have PartB so no it won’t. Plus for the time being, we’re capable of trimming or own toenails.

Guess I should think about supper in case I need to thaw something. It’s hard to think about next meal when you’ve just finished one. At least it is for me. I wish I had a psychic cook who knew what I wanted to eat before I thought about it and had it ready and on the table when I decided I was hungry. Is that too much to ask??? It’s the 21st century, fercryinoutloud!!!

Awwwwww…

The last time that I rented one of those, I was unpleasantly surprised at how little headroom they had for a car that size. My Yaris was easier to get in and out of than it was.

The hospice nurse may be able to give them to her if it’s arranged ahead of time.

You and my niece.

As organized as you are, I’m surprised that you don’t have some kind of a meal plan for the week.

I woke up about 0100 in a cold sweat, nauseous and headachy. I called out (first time since March) and stayed home. It’s been a toast and tea day with plenty of sleep and now I’m feeling semi-human.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

HAHAHAHAHA! You made a funny joke!!!

When I was still working, meal planning happened when I was driving home - that way if I needed something from the store, I could stop enroute. But unless I’ve got an event planned, I don’t generally do menu planning very far ahead.

Once FCD leaves with his mom, I’ll drag the vacuum out to the garage and try to de-cruddify the inside of my car. Yesterday I noticed how bad it is. UGH!

We’ve got a nice, steady shower coming down. I just vacuumed an assortment of stuff out of my car. FCD and his mom have left for the podiatrist, then they’re going to Wendy’s for chili. So supper will be minimal - maybe grilled cheese? I’ll figure it out when I figure it out.

Meanwhile, I shall read.

You and my niece.

Me three but I’m the same way with strawberries too

Feelin’ kinda blurfy, but puttin’ on my big girl look, they’re just pants, okay? … and heading off to work an open → close shift.

Some days I really like what I do, and some days I feel so burnt out on doing the same damn thing and hearing the same damn voices saying the same damn things.

Your mom’s in Switzerland at the same time that I’m not. Interesting.

Yes, they have many colors, combinations, engravings, etc.

Hubby says he wants to go explore, now that my parents are installed in their room and are having a nap. I’ll try catching up later.

Lunch with dad went well. He can be a picky bastard when it comes to food/restaurants, but we went to a nearby diner-type place he’s been to before and he was very happy with his BLT. And instead of listening to a couple hours of “back when computers used punch cards” stories (which is a typical topic of conversation for him), we talked about family – including our respective memories of a few people and how f*cked up some members of the previous generations were, and we each told at least one story that the other didn’t already know. It was actually interesting/enlightening!

He headed back to Baltimore almost an hour ago (he should be just about home by now :crossed_fingers:), and I’m about to change and head to the big work town hall. It’s going to feel a little weird to see coworkers while I’m otherwise on vacation, but on the other hand it will be nice to see some of them in person for the first time in a while (like my grandboss, who was my boss until she got promoted last year).

You like cooked strawberries but not raw ones? So you can eat, like, jam and things like that, but not strawberries in a fruit salad? Interesting!
