Spot went back for thirds on dinner. Pig. He actually climbed up on the top of the couch.

Speaking of dinner: A bologna & lettuce sandwich with mayo and yellow mustard, Baken-Ets, a piece of leftover Easter ham, and a slice of extra-sharp cheddar. And wine.
I was really shocked, but Pam isn’t the sort of person who just gossips for the fun of it. I have to believe that she was sharing what she knew was to be true.
Hubs reminded me that most folks who go on month long cruises are old farts who might not be in the best of health, so that could have contributed to the death rate. Never having been on a cruise, I can’t say if he is right or not.
Our own shoe is the one who suggested that I tip back at least half of my vets discount, so I started doing that and then the budistas got motivated to get me bigger and bigger discounts because they know I will tip it back. I don’t usually make a fuss about tipping them back, but when it is obvious that I am being put on the good example stage, I know just what to do ![]()
So…I’m not really knowledgeable about plumbing and foundations, but I’m wondering if you really want to have the carpet re-stretched now or perhaps wait a few weeks to find out if something else breaks…
I’ve always found feeding them into submission works nicely.
I’m glad Spot is starting to get used to his new kingdom. It will help him rule over the canine intruder in a couple of days.
Wow! That will be stunning when it’s done. I hope the Gods of flatpack furniture smile upon you, though it looks like you’re off two a good start after 2 hours.
JtC, MetalMouse, doggie, elfie*, thanks for the encouragement.
My two biggest challenges are going to be:
*Elfkin477, I don’t think I know your mumper name. Is it elfie? Feels like it should be elfie.
Suggestions: rice (or Rice-A-Roni) yogurt, mashed potatoes, and - no kidding - baby food. Soft as can be, comes in a zillion flavors, and many have a bit of protein.
That is TOO COOL for words!
Holy FUCK people drowned?!? Like, in the swimming pool, or did they fall overboard?
Young lady, you go to your room.
Our own shoe is the one who suggested that I tip back at least half of my vets discount
Jeebus, it doesn’t say anything good about me that I have absolutely zero memory of this conversation.
I mean, it sounds like something I’d say, I guess …
I did not get ambitious with the dragon blood.
I musta missed something, cuz now I haz a confused.
damn this is a rough year for pets
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
I’ve always found feeding them into submission works nicely.
He just came out, sat down in a relaxed state, and gave me the “I wish to complain to management” stare, so it must be working.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. *YAWN * ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 86 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions today and this afternoon I shall head over to the church house to unpack and setup the new Sanctuary Lamp. Add in makin’ sup and this will be a busy day for me. I might not have time for nappage. ![]()
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for being amongst the great unwashed. Woe is me!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Our sweet boy left us overnight.
He sat on my lap last evening when I was watching TV, purring, then sleeping. This morning, I found him on the floor - I hope he went peacefully. We adopted him early in 2008 - the rescue guessed he was about 18 months old then, so he was between 16 and 17 when he died. He could be a pain and a pest, but he was beautiful and affectionate and stubborn, always trying to escape when a door was opened. We’ll miss you, Taz.
damn this is a rough year for pets
Yeah.

Crap. It sure is. Sorry to hear about Taz FCM.
FCD buried him in our woods. I was OK till I had to tell him - now I’m all teary. I knew it was coming, but I still wasn’t ready.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 13c/55f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “Yesterday’s weather fucking sucked. Today’s weather is worse than that”. Partly true since yesterday was sunny and today is not. It’s not raining, I’ll take that as a win as it means a dry walk home from the station tonight.
{{{{{FairyChats}}}}} I’m sorry to hear about Taz, it’s so hard to lose them when they’ve been around for such a long time.
Nothing much to report from over here, I am at irk on campus, it is not as irksome as my old place would be. The final exams timetable came out on Monday, the students are already whinging about the fact they may have exams on consecutive days and competing deadlines for coursework…except it’s not our problem. The central exams office does the scheduling, and the academic staff set the coursework deadlines (and they know full well when the exams session starts) so no, not my problem at all.
I did have a self-indulgent moment of gloating when I looked at the list and saw my old dept will have 28 department sits (students taking an exam in a room on their own with an invigilator and possibly laptop, reader, scribe and any combination thereof)…and I will not have any involvement in it at all. My new dept has very few exams and they are all online so absolutely no hassles there, a few clashes with online submissions and campus-based exams that are dealt with by extending the online submission deadline…also, no hassles. I am really going to enjoy exams session this year!
Morning all. Up early again, so nappage is a possibility. Did a load of laundry right off the bat just because I could and am expecting the carpet guy between 8 and 11am. Hope to get back to swimming-n-sauna today, with the house stuff I have been pretty much unable to get there.
So…I’m not really knowledgeable about plumbing and foundations, but I’m wondering if you really want to have the carpet re-stretched now or perhaps wait a few weeks to find out if something else breaks…
Well, my great room is unusable right now with about 20% of the carpet detached and I doubt the next leak (if there is one) will be in the same place, so I’ll get it done.
FCM, my sorrows on losing Taz. Aparrently he left without much pain and on his own terms and not by a shot by an impersonal vet. But it hurts a lot and I’m glad you were able to bury him on your land.
shoe, JtC, I did a little research and people do die on cruises, no real statistics but one site says 623 cruise passengers died between 2000 and 2019, or around 32 a year. Considering a cruise ship can carry 3,000-4,000 passengers and most of them are older folks, I guess this is not really surprising…but it was to me.
boo fae, a little schadenfreude is healthy.

OK, need to put washing in the dryer and be about the day. All y’all take care.

Too many pets going to the Bridge. I’m teary eyed for Taz and Ripple.
I knew it was coming, but I still wasn’t ready.
That’s how it always goes, isn’t it?
That was a beautifully written memorial, by the way.
{{{FCM}}} He was a beautiful kitty, and I’ll miss reading about him. Somehow knowing this is coming doesn’t cushion the shock and grief. I’m so sorry.
Normally I make it a point not to be up this early–it’s part of my retirement rebellion–but I got a yes t and couldn’t go back to sleep. It amazes me how many people think the west is 3 hours ahead of the east coast. Also, despite the fact quiet time doesn’t end until 8:00, my upstairs neighbor is vacuuming.
My eye is better. the teeny floaters are still visible, but they’re lighter, and the pain is gone. (
I can see obstacles in my way.) I had one of those mood adjuster experiences on the bus coming home from the clinic. I had my headphones on because I was tired and hurting and didn’t want to talk. I heard someone yelling, “Hey, hey, hey, ma’am, ma’am, ma’am!” and realized she was talking to me. She had the worst case of Tourette’s I’ve ever seen. It took her about a minute to get out, “Does this bus stop at Goodwill?” She was cheerful and thanked me. Imagine having to work so hard to get out every word you speak. The weird thing was, the bus was full of people, and some were closer to her and not wearing headphones. Sometimes the universe communicates to us in strange ways. Anyway, it was humbling.
In other good news, my free replacement electric skillet arrived yesterday, and it works fine.
MetalMouse, why all the leaks? Is your plumbing really old, or have critters been dislodging/eating/dancing on the pipes? I hope this’ll be the last one.
cupcake! Good to see you back!
BooFae, what’s an invigilator?
Wheelz, that looks great!
baby food. Soft as can be, comes in a zillion flavors, and many have a bit of protein.
This is elderly guy and his sister who lived in my parents’ retirement community used to eat baby food for every meal, They spread it on bread. They didn’t have to; they just liked it.
I’ve always found feeding them into submission works nicely.
Cats submit?
The heat’s back on! The heat’s back on! Breakfast et, coffee drank, puzzles solved, including NYT, FB perused. We have an old friend who is on safari in Kenya and is posting photos. Brings back some good memories of our own adventures.
Blustery day in Big Minnie. I saw a forecast for thunderstorms tonight. I guess we’re getting into stormy/tornado-y season. The city will be testing the tornado sirens tomorrow. I’ve always had a not-so-secret dread of those damn things.
