(OLD) It's Tax Time in the MMP!

Carpet is only 3 years old (part of the Great Improvement Program of 2019-20), so it should still be in relatively good shape (considering the lack of care I take with it. Have a message in to my Insurance folks to check what I am allowed.

{{{ sari}}} my heart breaks for you.

FCD talked to the yard manager. The work on the boat is costing a lot less than we’d anticipated, so we’ve got that going for us. He pulled all the anchor chain out and spread it on the ground and figures we have about 200’, plus another couple hundred feet of anchor line. On Friday, we’ll paint markings every 20’ so we can track how much we put out when and if we anchor.

Just now finally got Tobias to nap. Just like his grandpa. So I have some quiet time. Probably should think about what to thaw for supper…

{{{sari and sarison}}}

DocuSigned the loan. I guess we can get concrete now.

{{{Sari}}} so sorry about Ripple. You gave him the best life any dog could hope for. Please take care of yourself.

In other news, Sonny’s BBQ sent a text that they are offering half priced ribs after four p.m. because its tax day. Since we couldn’t possibly turn down such a deal, tacos and fart fest will be delayed until tomorrow.

She’s Badger’s sister?

Ooops. I have laundry in the washer which needs to be hung up.

And I’m back.

{{{{{Sari}}}}} I am so sorry about Ripple. He was a cutie.

Spring is here with a vengence, and I think it even got my husband this year as his nose has been whistling at night due to some sort of sinus congestion. Always something new.

Two weeks ago I told my friend that work was hell. I think we lost our Virgil and we’re no longer sure which circle we’re in. Not my idea of fun.

At least I’ve got a helmsman (Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair).
Slàinte Mhath!

{{{sari}}}, I can’t say anything more or anything better than others have said. Just know that we’re all here for you.

Not Badger’s sister. Badger’s aunt! (W. Morgan Sheppard is Mark Sheppard’s dad, and I loved seeing the two of them together in the Doctor Who episode “The Impossible Astronaut”.)

Flyboy, yay on the loan! That’s about as concrete as you can get about the concrete.

CtE definitely has school anxiety, which is one of the reasons that getting them through all of this has been so tough. With their anxiety and depression, it’s sometimes hard to split what is them actually having a mental or physical problem with school that would make it worse for them to attend and what is them feeling a little off but they could push through. Today has been all about getting their work caught up and, so far, so good. Now I just need to get BtY caught up on his before I pull out my hair.

metal mouse, I’m glad that the plumbers are there doing their job, but sorry about all the racket. I do think sharing that wonderfulness of getting your plumbing done with your neighbors is an excellent plan. It’s good to share.

pilot, gremlins beaten into submission is one of my favorite things to hear about. They really need to learn their place.

That’s always the way it goes. I find dirty socks all over the house (thanks to Hubby, CtE and BtY taking them off and leaving them wherever is currently convenient) and just when I think I’ve checked every last place, I’ll sit on the couch and one will appear between the cushions. You just can’t win with socks.

Regarding Redfin being stoopit, I think all the quickie real estate places like that are. I don’t even own a home, and I regularly get texts and emails asking if I want to sell my property at (in-law’s address) or at (apartment address). Of course I want to sell them. I just think it would make a lot of people very unhappy if I did. (Including those who would be unhappy because I’d be in jail.)

Niner, I’m glad that your taxes are finished with a minimum of pain. Regarding the 8 hours of driving, that’s when I like to put in an audio book that I’ve been looking forward to. Keeps me from brooding while I’m alone in my head.

taters, I hope you were able to get your issues either resolved or progressed with little to no hiccups. And that the day stays just busy enough to keep you going but not so busy that you’re ready to hurl a computer through a window.

I suspect anyone would do a better job than I do, much to my step-mom’s disappointment. I try, but between back problems and other pains, it gets tough. The biggest problem is getting everyone else to help with the day to day stuff so a cleaner would be able to get at the things we want them to clean!

I’m not sure why I replied newest to oldest today, I guess I’m just feeling goofy. Not sure why, just that silliness is in my soul today.

Today has been pretty much a “do what the spirit moves you to do” kind of day rather than trying to lock myself in to cleaning this or doing that. I got BtY to school, then came home, thought about getting some writing done, realized that I was tired and napped instead. Woke up, got my shower and realized that I had a load of towels to wash and I was feeling up to cleaning the bathroom. I made sure to strike while the iron was hot. Now I’m trying to catch up on some online things before having to pick BtY up from school. If I’m lucky, I’ll have time to write my gaming post. If I’m not, then I’ll take care of that when I get back.

I’m going to have to sit on BtY after school to get him to get caught up on his past due schoolwork. There will be screaming and yelling, because there’s always screaming and yelling. There will be lies that he’s already done XYZ, which I can tell just by looking at the assignment hasn’t been done. There will temper tantrums thrown and, most likely, a phone and headphones taken away for the rest of the night. But in the end, at least some of the work will be done.

I’m hoping to have tomorrow be a day where I feel more like getting some cleaning done. Normally Wednesdays are my “clean the bedroom” day, but I did that over the weekend and it still looks pretty good. So I’m going to focus on some other rooms that need focusing. I don’t have anything to do until taking BtY to 9th grade registration that evening. So I should have plenty of time to put into it.

Have a good rest of your day, all!

The laundry is done. I did not get ambitious with the dragon blood. I am rocking back and chilling for the rest of the day.

Biggest hugs to sari on the passing of Ripple. I know what it’s like to lose a doggie. There is peace in knowing that one has done everything possible. Stay strong.

I myself am currently toothless and drugged, and I hope y’all are doing well, or at least better than me. Well, OK, not exactly toothless, but missing one molar. But it was very dear to me, that molar. I’ve had it ever since I was a young pup.

The post-op instructions say no smoking for 24 hours (no problem!) and then they have the unmitigated gall to say “… and no alcohol for 24 hours”! Well, to hell with that! I had my drinkin’ all planned out for after this ordeal and I’m a-stickin’ to the plan. I’m sitting here with a double martini, and nuts to them if they don’t like it!

It was an interesting experience at the dentist. I had pretty much psyched myself up for it when I walked into the office, and then the receptionist brought over an awesome multi-page form for me to sign in the name of “informed consent” that listed everything that could possibly go wrong (which I believe included things like permanent nerve damage, systemic infection, paralysis, insanity, and other fun stuff). I freaked out again.

But here’s the thing, folks. It was a nothingburger. The dentist poked away for a minute, and as I wondered when the fireworks would start, he took something out of my mouth, muttering “well, that’s the hard part done!”. It was apparently my tooth, and that was pretty much it. He did a bit of scraping to clean out the infection, spritzed it with something several times, had me bite down on some cotton, and sent me out into the world.

It’s so great to be rid of that nuisance painful loose tooth. I just have to be careful for the next several days or so to focus on foods in the “S” food group: Soup, and Soft.

The kids have been given to their mother, FCD and I have had an early, easy supper, and I’m flat-out exhausted! I think the last couple of days has caught up with me. Tonight is definitely for chillage.

And ice cream. I had to stop at Food Lion for 'nanners, and, well, ice cream.

I think I’ve been away from the MMP for less than a week, but it feels like forever! I actually scrolled through all of the 200+ posts I missed in last week’s thread, and the 110 posts I was behind on this week. It has taken a good chunk of the afternoon, but time well spent!

I filed my taxes in late February: I owed the feds $3 more than I got back from the state. Worked for me.

So, Bailey has a cyst (or wart or something) on her front right leg. On 4/7 I noticed that she’d been licking it a lot, and it had broken the skin and become an open wound. I took her to the vet on 4/8. Some drama and bs ensued with the doc she’d been seeing since the pandemic started (partly detailed in last week’s thread), and I took her back on 4/12 for a new bandage – after taking photos for the new doc – and to schedule the procedure to remove whatever it is. The new vet only does surgery on Tuesdays: we couldn’t do it today (I’m going out of town on Sunday for my uncle’s funeral and Bailey will need to board), so it’s scheduled for a week from today. In the meantime, though, they don’t want the same bandage to stay on for more than 4-5 days: she went back yesterday for a fresh one, and we’ll go again on Friday morning. I’ll drop her off at the kennel Sunday morning, and drive up to NJ: I’ll come back Monday afternoon/evening, but I won’t pick her up until first thing Tuesday morning – at which time I’ll take her straight to the vet for her surgery. I think that’ll be easier on her than bringing her home and then taking her to the vet the next morning, plus this way I can take my time leaving NJ on Monday and not have to worry about getting to the kennel before they close. Luckily she isn’t sick or anything, and she seems to not notice/mind the bandage at all. Today I ordered both an inflatable “donut cone” and a post-surgery “suit” for her, and will see which one works best.

I recently started binge-re-watching The Good Fight, via Paramount+. I signed up for that service specifically so I could watch the final season (last year?). Turns out there’s some good stuff on it – like The Good Wife, which I already binge-re-watched. This is my first time re-watching The Good Fight, and it’s interesting now that I have three years with the NAACP under my belt: my perspective and attention to certain details are slightly different this time. Anyway I am completely enjoying this show, again, and I look forward to watching it. It’s kind of sad how excited I am about tonight’s plans to watch some episodes while eating pizza and popcorn.

I have some thoughts related to last week’s thread before I get to this week’s…

I live a couple miles closer to DCA than IAD, but I hardly ever use DCA: because of the access road to IAD, it’s usually both easier and faster to go there. I haven’t flown since January 2020, but the next time I do I’ll be a little more deliberate about my airport choice.

That looks very cool! I nearly ordered a Van Gogh set today, but I’m trying to hold off on unnecessary pricey purchases until after the dog’s surgery – and also the anesthetic dental cleaning that she’s on a wait-list for. (:dog: = :money_with_wings: )

Woo hoo!!! :tada: Can’t wait for the official “gotcha” pictures!

I grew up mostly near Baltimore: my dad still lives there, and my brother is in the 'burbs.

When I lived in England I went to the British school, and was in a play written by one of the teachers: there was a scene where one character asks about a certain fee and is told it’s the value added tax, and he responds, “Oh, well VAT’s alright, then.” We were a bunch of 12/13-year-olds and that cracked all of us up! I mean, it’s been almost 40 years and I still remember this line! :joy:

Nice!!

The emotion is completely understandable, but congratulations!!

*phew*!

Aww, no…I’m so sorry. :people_hugging: :blue_heart:

Ribs, fries, and baked beans have been scarfed down. Fart fest is underway. All is good in swampland.

Up from naptime, having a Manhattan, and watching Spot/Beeker wander around the apartment.

Shiny

So I should greet her with “Hello, sweetie!”?

Which will probably be a lumpy blanket, with a foot sticking out.

It’s incredible how something so small can leave such a big hole in your heart. :sleepy:

Our housekeeper was here and says she had a great cruise, but a lot of other people got sick. 7 people actually died, 2 drowned. She says she’s probably not going to go on any more cruises for a while.

We went to our usual breakfast place and they charged hubs 2 bucks for salsa without saying anything about an upcharge. They are no longer our usual breakfast place. We understand they might need to charge for extras, but salsa isn’t considered to be any more of an extra than catsup out this way, and the waitress didn’t say anything first. Hubs was so mad he only tipped her 15%.

After eating, we went to the dispensary down the mountain. The rip-off gas station was selling gas at 5.89/gal (gas 30 miles up the interstate is 3.89) and the freeway widening project still has the underpass all messed up. I think the dispensary tips the flagmen because they are all verrrrrrry happy, all smiles and friendly waving and blowing kisses.

I always pre-order at the dispensary because hubs doesn’t really want me spending an hour talking to the budistas and usually pick up and pay at the check in counter. This time the budista…one I have enjoyed talking to in the past…asked if it would be OK if she took me in the showroom. OK, whatever, that just means going through a door and to another counter.

Every counter was filled but the one she took me to and when she announced that she had been able to save me $30 on my order, I was my usual happy self and complained about stuffing the 30 bucks into the skinny slot on their tip boxes (the stoopid hole is maybe a quarter of an inch wide and they are selling to stoners…maybe they should make it a little easier)!

The budista followed me out the door and then out the exterior door to hug me and tell me that she had asked me to go back there so I might good influence a couple of cheepskates, then handed me a couple of pre-rolls behind my opened car door. I hope it worked

You never forget the really good jokes!!!

I’m glad your loan is set. It’s always a bit of a worry before things start firming up. Slaps my hands before getting to the hard jokes.

Once a floozy, always a floozy! I don’t think I’ve ever been in Omaha either.

Howdy all. Sari I am so sorry for the loss of Ripple. It made me so sad when I saw the news on FB. You gave him a good life. Dogs just should not get cancer.

Doggiooo Congrats on your new feline Overlord. I vote for Spot as his/ her name and another congrats on Darci. Just two more days.

We finally got some rain. A smidge over 3 inches in the last few days. The crunchy brown grass is greening up already.

Metalmouse another leak? Dang. I’m sorry that keeps happening.

Forgot the subject of the thread. I got off with only paying the blood sucking bastards at the IRS only $130 and $325 to the accountant. I spent most of three days on the phone with the IRS last week about the big refund they owe me for an overpayment. The credit was sitting there under hubs social security number even though it was plainly typed at the top of the page that he is deceased. I finally got someone who took a long time and many 5-7 minutes hold times to release it to me as it was a joint return. I am suppose to have a check in 4 weeks (now three). I am not holding my breath. I shan’t believe it until I have check in hand. One bright spot is it is over 400 dollars more than I was expecting.

Y’all keep safe.

I got this far today.

Imgur

This represents about two and a half hours of work. That’s enough for now.

That looks nice and squared. That’s the first piece, it is important that you take your time and get the first part right so you can work off perfect to keep doing perfect.

{{{sari}}}. I am so sorry about Ripple.

OH . MY . GOODNESS !!!

Lucky congrats on being ready to join the rest of us as a drain on society  actually, after taking early retirement and being retired for 2 yrs, 2 months and 22 days, I began working PT almost 8 yrs ago and for the most part have enjoyed it. I transferred divisions this year and now instead of working many 32+ hrs weeks, I’ll be down to about 10-12 hrs a week.

I’m a procrastinator extraordinaire. Although I actually started working on the taxes on Sunday, well barely, then did a fair amount last night and finished them up this morning after only 5 hrs of sleep. The IRS owes us, although I applied about half to next year. Wrote a ck to State of Mich for $24. Took envelopes to PO so they could be postmarked today then went to Fitness Center; although I was pretty beat so only did the NuStep and then not to my normal standard. I just didn’t want to make dinner so called Hubs before I left the Fitness Center and asked him to order Cashew Pad Thai w/ pork for me and whatever he wanted from Bangkok 96; picked it up on way home. It was delicious. Then mowed the lawn, both front & back. Now going to shower up and hit the hay.

Evening all. The plumbers finished up around noontime and according to the water meter (I have become very well acquainted with that item in the past two weeks) the repair seems to have done the job. Dishwasher has been run with no bad effects. Then made a Braunsweiger run and also filled the gas tank, so the car is good for several weeks and my belly is set through mid-June. Nappage and some walking filled out the rest of the day.

Tomorrow the carpet guy is coming over to look at what I have, I think I’m going to stick to my guns about them just replacing the padding and leaving the carpet alone; might even get a cleaning service in. Then Thorsday the Insurance guy will drop by and we’ll discuss if it’s worth filing a claim. And Friday then fence gets replaced and Monday a contractor will be here to do the drywall and baseboard replacement…just so much fun is in store.

Wheelie, a good start. Hope the rest of it comes together.

JtC, my goodness, never heard of a cruise that had that many deaths! Who was traveling on that boat, Typhoid Mary? And sounds like you’ve made your share of friends at the dispensary.

Oopsie, sounds like a good plan and I concur, bringing Bailey home and then almost immediately taking here to the vets would be confusing and probably upsetting.

Wolfie, glad the tooth-yanking didn’t interfere with the day-drinking.

Real Fish, I get 2-3 calls a week asking me if I want to sell my property and then they give me an address I’ve never heard of. So yeah, I’ll sell something I don’t own…

Flyboy, concrete away!

OK, even with nappage I’m still a bit tired and the Flooring guy is coming over between 8-11am, so no sleeping in for me. Take care all.
