[Old] Lets have a healthy breakfast in the MMP

Davis-Monthan? Some years back when I was still working for DOD, I had to go to Tucson for a conference, and I had a contact who gave me a tour of D-M! It was fascinating!! When I was working at the depot in Jax, we’d have crews go out there regularly to strip parts off old planes that could be reused on newer ones. And I know sometimes the old ones are spiffed up and sold to foreign military customers, so they don’t all rot away.

Had a bit of a scare yesterday - Taz was having a seizure. He was on the plastic chair mat at my desk, so there was the added drama of the noise of his claws on the plastic. It lasted maybe a minute, then he lay there drooling and panting, and I think he passed out for a bit. After a little while, he got up and was walking around unsteadily before finally settling on my recliner and pretty much sleeping the rest of the day.

Had I been alone, I probably would have scooped him up and run to the vet, but I had Tobias and FCD wasn’t home, so I was stuck. He seems to be OK today, as OK as a 17-y/o cat can be. We’ve discussed it and when he goes to the vet, it will be his final trip. At his age, we’re not going to consider any heroic measures - but we don’t want him to suffer. This is the part of pet parenting that I hate the most. But he did eat his gooshy food this morning, so there’s that.

We’re promised temps in the 80s today. I’ll be scraping Cetol off the transom teak. Cetol is like varnish, and apparently it can be removed with a heat gun and a scraper. Once that’s done, a light sanding and a fresh coat or 4 of new Cetol. We’ll see how much I get done today. It mostly depends on how FCD feels - this cold or whatever it is has kicked his butt.

Much rain is promised for tomorrow, followed by a cooler weekend. Going to my niece’s for Easter, then on the 15th, Roxy turns 5, and her birthday party will be at a local park (at her request.) So that’s a look ahead at my social schedule.

Let there be Wednesday!!!

Morning everyone. 58 here, and about 70 predicted. Large disagreements on likelihood of rain, depending on TV or wunderground. I guess we’ll see.

Doctor stuff (something ending in -gram) was finally finished yesterday, and I treated myself to my favorite sandwich shop, Jersey Mike’s. Showing self-control and restraint, I ordered a “mini” sized sandwich. They got confused and made the larger size for me, and sadly I failed to show self-control after that (I ate the whole thing). Since they didn’t charge me for it, it had no calories - Right? Like broken cookies, it’s OK to eat all you want.

So that’s what you youngun’s are calling it nowadays. Seriously, one of the earliest dates with mizPullin involved a small plane, in which we decided to “floozy” while aloft. Luckily for us, it was a Bonanza, with a clever device called a “throw-over yoke”. The inventor of this must have had floozying in mind, given its usefulness for such activity. I still remember this particular craft having the gaudiest interior imaginable, complete with curtains over the side windows (hey, it was the 70s). Mizpullin insisted these curtains be closed beforehand. Whether concerned about chance viewing from a passing airliner, or something from a Twilight Zone episode, I never knew.

Also, sorry to hear about the closing cheese business. My Dad’s health-aide is experiencing something similar. Her husband worked for a small company who’s owner just perished in a car accident. It’s likely he’ll be unemployed as well, which may throw things into disarray for her (and Dad).

My eldest and SO are in a biz with lots and lots of travel. They have remote, app-controlled feeders for their cats. I’ve been on the phone with him while he adjusted the feeding amounts remotely. They keep two operating in case of failure, and apparently one had stopped dispensing, so he doubled the output of the remaining one. We live in a world where a cat’s feeding bowl can send messages to the owner in another country. I’m still astounded by this.

On to the day I guess. Will cook breakfast, then decide what to stream next on the TV. I think today is just hanging around retired. Hope all have a good day.

Mornin’ all. Tis the crack of 0830 here in paradise. Slept in a bit then was doing some other reading before checking in w y’all. Currently 78F/25C on the way to 83F/29C w a gentle breeze.

Courtesy of Nyquil I slept well & plenty. Cold about the same this morning as yesterday, an irritating nuisance and not much more. Except for the very rapid onset I might think it’s actually a seasonal allergy.

Spent all of yesterday sunrise to sunset out on my south-facing balcony before we knew I didn’t have COVID. That gave Her Ladyship the safe run of the interior. Sat facing east for the first maybe 4 hours then west for the next 8. Always in the shade, but with a bright blue sky with a few white puffies filling most of the field of view.

Now one half of my face/head is freshly renewed tan. The other half is thoroughly bright red. Looks like this scene from an original Star Trek episode:

Today’s goals are:

And I’m damned proud of them.

Hope everyone here has not only a healthy breakfast but the best day possible given the massive vexations affecting most of us and the downright crises affecting a few.

Her Ladyship has arisen, and now heveling and feeding beckons.

Cheers!

Morning all. Up at 6am again, so nappage is a possibility. Chance of rain today and tomorrow, but getting back to the mid-80’sF again, so not too worried. Might even do some housework!!

Pilot, get to feeling better soon. And my special tan is on my legs, when refereeing/coaching soccer I wear ankle-length socks and shorts, so the area in-between gets red while the rest doesn’t tan at all…I call it the referee two-tone.

JtC, best wishes to the lady’s husband, and there may yet be other customers out there for you. And floozing in the cockpit…well, I never!! But Davis-Monthan is on my to-do list for someday.

Yankers, and you and the missus in a Beech Bonanza…reminded me of a old novelty song “making Love in a Subaru” (and of course it’s on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IKoGt-Pk8A). And sad about your Dad’s health-aide, they seemed to do well together.

Preach it, Brother!!

FCM, hope Taz is doing better. If he were human I would say those are symptoms of epilepsy–don’t know if cats get that. Best wishes.

boo fae, yeah, newbies can get into the darndest places…

nellie, what Pilot said. Don’t want to hear about no aches and pains if you’re going to try and aggravate your knees…

OK, need to break fast and be about the day. All y’all take care.

Good morning/afternoon/evening, all! It’s a relatively clear 72F/22C in Nashville right now. It’s supposed to get up to 84F/29C and we’re supposed to have some nasty weather. But that should be later today/ tonight. I had a bagel with cream cheese to break my fast this morning. I’m still gonna grab a piece of fruit, maybe some yogurt.

I’m taking today as a mostly me day. Hubby drove BtY to school this morning (CtE was still complaining about their knee and Hubby gave them permission to stay home another day. I gave permission under duress. ) I have to take CtE to therapy at 6 tonight, but otherwise my list is full of things I should do rather than things I must do. I don’t have anything planned beyond going to see Dad at some point. Of course, I may decide that I’ve got to get some cleaning done, but I’m not going to stress it. I’ve got a free weekend to get everyone involved in cleaning.

Paintcharge, thanks for the info. I still need to get an actual keymade for a second fob, but that should be far easier than having everything fully reprogrammed.

pilot, glad it was just run of the mill URI than plague. And doubly glad that it meant you were able to go out and witness the remote scolding.

Cat Glove, I’ve done the same thing on some of the walking trails around here. It’s good for seeing different areas and getting more exercise, but yeah… it can be tiring! And it sounds like you’ve had a busy day on top of it. Regarding Kroger, I miss the 24 hour stores so you don’t have to do a quick run. I used to shop overnight because it was quieter (back in my wildly young and single days.) I do like the sales they have though, and finding all sorts of stuff on Manager’s Special, as well as the 4x Fuel Points on Fridays. Good luck with your BFF’s appointment and her husband’s cataract surgery.

JtC, I’m sorry about the cheese business and about the owner’s husband. 2023 needs a swift kick in the patoot.

MetalMouse, good luck with the professional leak detector. It does seem like it will save you more money in the long run.

hippie, that quilt will be gorgeous!

{{{shoe}}} I’m sorry you’re brain won’t shut down and that the weather isn’t helping.

swampy, glad you’re feeling better!

I should probably get ready for the day, check with Dad to see when he’ll be in his room, maybe make a stop at Kroger to get my Good n Plenty fix. May your Wednesday be more like a Friday than a Monday.

Metal mouse didn’t you have a B.A. leak a year or so ago?

Strong storms in the area. Lightning, thunder, and hail woke me at 6am. Even the cat was unnerved so she got into bed with me. I told her it was not fuds time so went back to sleep. For THREE HOURS. Yes, I slept til 9am. I have had my 2 eggs, coffe, and an orange (the store was out of grapefruit). Now I will get dressed and go to the gym, then the hardware store for light bulbs. Can anyone be any more boring or pointless???

Good morning or afternoon!

I’ve read that many Brits find the American habit of saying “Have a nice day!” annoying. but then, isn’t saying “Good morning!” “Good afternoon!” or “Good evening!” basically the same thing? OTOH, why are we Yanks wishing people a good day when we we’ve already covered that with, “Good morning”? It’s a good thing I only have one personality, or I’d be arguing with myself all day. [No, I wouldn’t. Yes, I would.]

I’ve decided on the Easter dinner menu. It’s not exciting, but it’s doable and works for three people: glazed ham. funeral potatoes, cornbread, and lemony roasted asparagus. I may add corn salad. Son and DIL are bringing dessert. This morning, I’ll shop for ingredients. I’m This afternoon I have Ms. Dog. We’ll go for a long walk and play the endlessly fascinating (to her) game of Fetch.

Fair enough.

swampy, glad your sinuses are making nice.

pilot, I’d forgotten about that episode! Now I want to see it again. Hope the cold goes away pronto.

sari, I hope the prognosis for good ol’ Ripple is brighter than it seems at the moment. I can’t imagine the MMP without him.

FCM, poor Taz. Fingers are crossed that it was a one-time thing.

My sister’s comin’ home for Easter today!

Yay! Enjoy your time with her!

I heaved. I clerked. I had a bowl of cereal.

And it’s First Contact Day today!(only 40 more years, WWIII, and a geneticly engineered madman obsessed with rich, Corinthian leather stand between us and the stars!)

I’ve written the checks to the U.S. Treasury and the California Franchise Tax Board. I’ll put them in the box when I go out for my walk – which I desperately need. Didn’t get any walking in last week (unless you count 0.89 miles looking for a place to get dinner), I was exhausted on the weekend, inundated with work Monday, and commuted Tuesday.

I had a banana before my coffee protein shake this morning, and ate two more with my PB&J. I think that’s enough nanners for one day.

When I got Bailey from daycare yesterday she was too tired/achy to jump up into the car: I had to pick her up, which she hates, but it was either that or stand around in the parking lot for the rest of her life. I recently gave away a doggy ramp that I’d gotten for her to use with the bed (she didn’t like it, plus the large storage ottoman works fine), and now I’m wondering if maybe I should get one for the car.

This morning I started some doggy laundry and ran the dishwasher, and when I took a break for lunch I got inspired to vacuum and dust the home office and mop the floor in here. The cleaners came today: they never touch this room, because it’s where Bailey always hides with me while they’re here, and after they left I suddenly noticed how yucky things had become. The lawn guys were here this morning, too. All told it’s been a big day for Bailey, who is currently snoozing in her dog bed under an open window (at 2pm it’s sunny and 86°F).

The only holiday when I see my dad and brother is Christmas, so on Easter I’ll be seeing my BFFs (and their son/my “nephew”). Normally the wife hosts, and various extended family come to dinner, but this year there are sick children and traveling in-laws so it’ll just be the four of us. Which, honestly, is just fine with us.

In theory, I have a volunteer-related meeting at 5:30pm with one other person – I say “in theory” because it’s been a week since we agreed to this date/time, and the woman hasn’t responded to either the invitation or my follow-up email yet. If I don’t hear from her I’ll start the Zoom (which she was supposed to schedule but I went ahead and set up this morning), but if she doesn’t join by 5:35 I’ll be outta there. And a little grumpy. I’d forgotten that one of my biggest frustrations when working with fellow volunteers is that they are often unresponsive: meetings can be hard to schedule/hold, and getting answers to relatively straightforward questions can take forever. Meh.

Ooooo!

Oh no!! :anguished:

Tangent: Before I ever lived with or had a dog, a friend got two puppies and one of them had seizures. I saw a couple of them. 10+ years later, the first time 3-month-old Bailey had a dream I started crying because at first I thought she was having a seizure!

It’s windy as f+@! here in western Mitten State today. I hate that howling noise.

Gotta head back in to irk soon; not super excited since TweedleDumber is on shift today, and I am so OVER his lazy ass.

TL,DR: current mood = grumpy, so business as usual.

Onward! But first, pants!

The entire decade needs a do-over as far as I’m concerned!

There is a lot of history out that way, I think you would enjoy it. My offer of a train ride to the Grand Canyon for mumpers includes you, so remember that while you are making your plans. Do avoid the summer months, though. Tucson has too many triple digit days for comfort.

Boy, you sure shot me out of the air with that story! The best I’ve got in for in-flight floozying is the cargo hold of a C-141. That was also the first time I ever floozied while wearing hearing protection.

I don’t blame the Miz for wanting the curtains closed, nobody wants to give the aliens any more ideas.

I haven’t had any actual experience with bleu’s yet, but our own @teelabrown told me that she made bleu camembert by mistake. I’m finally old enough to learn from other peoples’ mistakes.

Today was a surplus produce day and when I got there the line was much longer than I had ever seen in the past. If I wasn’t picking up for LWT, I would have left because we don’t really need the box and I wouldn’t have wanted to take it from someone who really did.

They gave us orange Gatorade today, I’m so glad the kids like that stuff cause we don’t. We got a whole lot of homegrown lemons, too many for me to use in my water, so I’m going to squeeze them and freeze the juice to use for cooking.

We also got half a flat of very nice looking tomatoes so I’m going to make some Instant Pot tomato sauce. This is a new recipe, I’ve always used a crock pot in the past. I will have to do it twice, 12 cups of roughly chopped tomatoes is half an inch under the fill line and I still need room for onions, garlic and carrots. The recipe said I didn’t need to remove the seeds, but I did anyhow because I think they can make the sauce bitter.

After yesterday’s drive, I was feeling kinda stiff and unmotivated to go to Tai-chi but I went anyhow and I’m glad I did because I stretched out most of the kinks.

Well, that sucks. I hate it when that happens.

Collapses on the fainting couch in a dramatic swoon.

Poor lil guy. It’s so hard when the end draws near.

OK, break’s over back to the kitchen. Those onions aren’t going to chop themselves!

Hey, you remembered our conversation! Yep, my camemberts looked like beautiful white, fluffy camemberts, felt like camemberts, but tasted bleu. They weren’t bad, but I wanted nice stinky classic camembert. We did use our old refrigerator, which Mr. brown jury-rigged with a device to run at cheese cave temperatures. After you said that once a fridge is used to store bleu cheese, it has bleu cheese spores for life no matter what you do, that solved that mystery. I know we had bought and kept commercial bleu cheeses in that fridge in the past.

So what’s the answer? Buy a brand-new cheese cave fridge and keep it isolated away from anything that might carry bleu spores, I suppose. Pricey.

Damn, commercial cheesemakers must disinfect the holy hell out of their facilities to avoid cross-contamination.

I made all the mistakes in my test block, so here are the actual finished product:

FCM. I’m sorry to hear Taz is not doing well.

This could be me. Except if you get pants on today you’re doing better than me.

One day post initial session of root canal at my dental college’s endodontics clinic. Final session April 10th. Then two sessions in May with my regular dentist to crown that molar (or what’s left of it). Finally, 24 hours later, the pain has died down. Still needed naproxen this morning. All told, a full week of debilitating pain. Hopefully now the pain will only be in my pocketbook. The memory of that pain and my helplessness in the face of it hasn’t left me. What happens next time?

Dang! I knew I was forgetting something!

Was supposed to teach my refugee literacy class today but it was cancelled, a combination of a students sick child and Ramadan. Fine by me, I was relieved to be able to stay home in my robe and recover from Root Canal Part One. But my plan had been to stop for the weekly distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables on the way home from teaching. Oops. Not a big deal. Because of the dental misadventure haven’t been able to eat last week’s crunchies yet. At least two possible next week on the schedule.

swampie’s sweet potatoes sound good and about my mouth’s speed at this point. I’d do corn meal mush at this point if I had any in the house, or grits. Anything for a little variety in the world of soft foods. Been living on protein shakes. Need to enhance the pantry a bit before the rest of the dental appts. Shoot me your ideas every one.

So, long story short: boo survives but it wasn’t pretty.

I was there in December and I couldn’t get over how dry it was! Yeah, I know, desert and all, but still, it was freekin’ DRY!!!

And we’re home and I’m achy and exhausted, but I’ve showered, so I’m clean. Pics:

A close-up to show before and after sections. The heat gun causes the old Cetol to bubble up and I just scrape it off. Easy-peasy!

I wish I’d worn shoes with better arch support - my feet and legs really ache!! I got more than 3/4 of the transom done - it’s stripped to just past the swim ladder. Another hour or so, and it’ll be done. But FCD was hurting and I was pretty beat, so we called it a day around 3-ish.

It’s not supposed to start raining till after noon tomorrow, so we’ll go over early and I can finish the stripping and maybe get some sanding done. Then next week, we should be able to put a fresh coat or three of Cetol on it.

The rest of today is for chillage.

I’ve never been successful with the slice and fry version. I just sent a email to my parents to put this on the menu the next time I’m there, so I can see their secrets.

Might make some tomorrow - yum!

hippy, I’m looking forward to your quilting updates - so pretty!

JtC is that the same diner that had the fire? Hope you can find another customer.

FCM hope Taz is okay.

Today was my Friday, as Thursday is a vacation day and Friday’s a holiday. I think I’ve gotten over most of my cold, but now there’s birch. And a lot of birch. So I’ve been sneezing my head off all day, which is snot fun.

Got out the neti pot to help rinse the nasal passages, which makes even more mess. Also taking generic claritin, which does do something for me. Of course, I could try something like going to bed early.

Interestingly enough I got a call from the town. They want to inspect our construction project. I sent the card indicating it was done 2 years ago. I guess they’re a bit behind. Hope it’s just a formality.
