Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning, then sloth.

The number of peasants dying of plague went down 99% after Outlook was introduced.

Early to bed last night, so early to rise this morning. Funny, but I don’t feel and healthier, wealthier or wiser. Just cranky.

However, my dotter is coming over later with taco fixin’s and cookies, so something to look forward to. I’ll likely make some black beans with spices to go with.

Other than that, I got nothin.

Up too early.
Going to church.
Dislike the Holiday tomorrow as bus’s aren’t running and theres nothing to do but read and look out the window at the parking lot.

Spot enjoys that. He also runs around the apartment screaming. Maybe try that, too?

If you’re the referee, can’t you call a time out for the referee to get fluids and electrolytes? Please make sure you’re staying hydrated.

I grew up in the PNW. If it doesn’t rain for a few days I start getting antsy, at least if I’m home. If I’m on vacation, I’m more flexible. But at home, no rain in the summer = have to water the plants.

Maybe after it starts raining. Baked the carrot cake and then made cajun salmon in the oven. Kitchen’s too darn warm.

Two of the eggs (out of 10) were cracked. I think I forgot to look at them when I took them off the shelf at the store.

Not even an oak leaf. Sheesh. No pumpkin either, because this a jack-o-lantern. :jack_o_lantern:

Besides baking and lunch, I also did a deep clean of the kitchen counter so the stainless looks shiny, cleaned the bathroom sinks, put the sheets in the wash and put some clothes in the wash. Hubby vacuumed and dusted, and moved stuff from the washer, to the dryer, and then took stuff out of the dryer.

Dishwasher is running and there’s lots of clean pots and pans on the counter. I got out the food processor because I bought too many carrots. I grated all of them, and now there are 3 containers of grated carrots - two for carrot cake and 1 for morning glory cake. Not going to be buying carrots any time soon.

Think it’s ice cream time again.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/67f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “Serge Kong once said that revelations are fucking found in clouds. How about the revelation that clouds fucking suck?” I don’t mind the cloudy weather, it’s pleasant enough for me.

Same for me - maybe it’s blocked for non-US folks? I’ve never lived anywhere with a screen door either. The closest we have to it is a bug-screen that we put up to stop things coming in through our massive window at night when the lights are on.

That sounds interesting, definitely one for the list for our next trip over to your side of the Great Divide…whenever that might be.

That sounds like the beginning of a good story! Enjoy the time off

That’s because you are good people and you have decided to take responsibility for Jolene, unlike a lot of people we get to deal with. Sadly our rescue has running costs of around £3,000 a month just in the basics - food, litter, puppy pads, medication before we can even look at the vet bills. Fortunately, now that we have charitable status, we’re eligible to apply for grants and funding from various places but that all takes time, and competition is fierce. Still, we go out and do what we can to raise funds, and talk nicely to the vets so they keep treating our animals and don’t expect us to pay in full every time!

When we’ve fostered cats, I take them on the basis that they’re living in our house so we are responsible for them. I could ask the rescue to provide all their food, flea and worm treatments, cover their vet bills etc, but I don’t. My contribution to it all is having the cats here and caring for them like my own. Of course, they always end up being my own in the end

So…yesterday’s plans for slothage took a bit of a turn. The morning stuff went as planned, I was up early to help set up the stall for Little Paws, came home and went off to get my hair cut. I decided I wasn’t feeling energetic enough to go into town, and didn’t really need anything, so we had lunch at home and I spent a couple of hours on the sofa as the start of my planned slothage.

Then the power went off! This was around 4pm, and luckily I’d just boiled the kettle so we had a cuppa and waited to see if it was just a blip. Since our evening plans didn’t involve going out, 'im indoors went down to one of the local shops to get some limes so we could make Margaritas later. While he was out, the idiot neighbour’s wife came over and asked if our power was out as she had called the National Grid number to find out what was happening.

National Grid confirmed there was an outage, confirmed the location, and that it involved 218 properties. No estimated fix time because the engineers were still assessing it. We discussed possibilities, and I decided to make dinner while it was still light enough to see. So I made chicken curry and waited to see if the electricity came back on. It didn’t.

National Grid’s updates said we’d have power back by 10pm…so we decided at that point, it would be sensible to go to the pub. They’ve got lights, and beer. What more did we need? The plan was a couple of local pubs, and we could pick up pizza on the way home, and have the chicken curry on Sunday instead.

We patronised a couple of places, then decided to get a cab into town to our favourite watering hole, had a drink in there, then went across to check out another nice little place that had recently been refurbished. Then of course, we ended up at the Giffard. Well, why wouldn’t you? It’s by far the coolest pub in town. So a long night was had, beer was quaffed, and pizza was acquired on the way home.

Power was restored at 4.30am, so we’d been in the dark for 12.5hrs. I looked at National Grid’s updates and it looks like it was on and off all night. They’re still reporting 80 properties without power and their estimated fix time is 5pm today. We are lucky that ours came back on in the night, and the stuff in the freezer seems to have survived.

Now I can have my afternoon of sloth!!

SWMBO cleaned part of the deck, inside of the catio, that gets wet (or did, until we had a gutter put up last year or earlier this year) and was weathered and discoloured. She says I don’t have to do to church with her today if I paint the area. It’s three lengths of two-by-six, about 16 feet across. I got out the paint.

FCD just took his mom to church because he’s a good son. I need to empty the dishwasher. Not sure what else. It’s sunny but t-boomers on the way…

I’ve never noticed that, and I’m pretty sure I would on things like rice or chicken soup.

We decided to put off that mountain pass trip to today, so that’s our main agenda. Both of us needed a sloth day yesterday. I was briefly worried about Buddy being a bit unsociable during the day, but he slept on the bed with us last night, so I’m probably just being neurotic again.

We were taking breaks every 6-7 minutes (for the kids) and I was drinking water and gatorade all during the time, it was just a combination of trying to do too much in too much heat. Got a note this morning that another referee had collapsed and needed to be transported to the hospital for observation, so I did manage to avoid that. There is a big discussion going on among the Board members on what to do due to the heat and stress, hopefully it will start to cool down in September.

Thought I was doing OK last night, got 7 hours sleep but when I rose to micturate, I had a feeling like I was going to throw up–didn’t, but still feeling pretty tired and sore and not much ambition for the day. May skip the Sunday gym trip, really don’t feel up to it. Have made a note to myself: no refereeing back-to-back games in 90F+ heat.

Wonder if it was it stuffed? <I’m a baaaddd boy…>

red, got about 2 hours of ‘soaking rain’ here yesterday, that being not to hard but steady and constant. Might get some more this afternoon, at least it is cooler her (75F at present).

shoe, a bacon-pancake sub sounds…interesting…but I like my syrup too much and that would make it hard to handle.

boo fae, hope the food/freezer stuff didn’t spoil.

Nettie, enjoy the ramble up the pass.

And that’s about all the energy I have to type. Nappage this afternoon is a distinct possibility. Take care all.

May want to change that to no refereeing games in 90F+ heat. Hope your colleague’s okay, and you take it easy. Sounds like you got a bit of heat stroke or heat exhaustion despite your precautions.

Speaking of which, I need to give the plants some water and drink some myself.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 60F and mostly cloudy right now. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. The expected high temperature is 86F, and the winds will be light and variable.

Having lived in the PNW for 55 of my sixty years, I also become antsy when we have long periods without rainfall. And, lack of rainfall means constant watering of plants, so it becomes yet another chore.

I hope those of you when were feeling poorly are feeling better today.

I need to measure the pups’ necks and order soft collars today. I have Polar’s old collar, so I can see if that fits, but I’ll probably order new collars too. The surgeries are this coming Friday.

Since the state fair began on Friday, I’ve been doing my best to stay off the roads. Most of that traffic is contained down the hill, but there seems to be more traffic up here, too. There is always traffic up here on the main drag, but now even the back roads are clogged because of the unchecked development.

Boofae, you are good people! I used to donate to the county humane society. I need to start doing that again.

The pups love sleeping upstairs. It takes them a bit of time to settle down, but I hope that with time, that will get better. This morning, my husband got up because he was having trouble sleeping (stuffy nose), but the pups stayed with me. I opted to try and sleep in. Nope, right around 5:30 a.m., Maisie was jumping up on the edge of the bed, and Buster was up on the bed because it was breakfast time. I got up and fed them, and now Buster is under my desk, sleeping on my feet, and Maisie is right next to my chair.

Fruit pizza is made the same way. I’ve had it with strawberries, blueberries, kiwis, and other fruit. It’s pretty tasty.

Yesterday, I mowed, edged, weed-whacked, and blew. I also watered all the posies. I may run the sprinkler for a bit today. Today, I’ll knock out the laundry. I don’t have much, but I do have to wash the bedding and towels.

And I see that a couple of you posted while I created this one. I’m sorry you’re still feeling poorly, Metal Mouse. Enjoy your trip, Nettie.

I had to stop in the middle of posting to put more medication in the pups’ ears. It’s always an adventure. But Buster is calmer about it than Maise. Maise is always whipping her head around, which makes it difficult to administer the meds. Oral meds would have been much better, I think.

Alrighty, I need to unload the dishwasher and then go on poo patrol. It’ll be a mundane and dull day here, but that’s fine with me.

Metalmouse take care today. Rest, hydrate. Skip the gym. I too am affected by heat. Nothing wrong with aging out of Superman/Woman. The horses are moving back to their usual stalls Tuesday, so today I will decobweb Ariel’s stall.

When I went in to shower, Ziva was eating her kibbles, so that tells me she didn’t venture out last night. We’re keeping our bedroom closed so Trevor doesn’t bother her. At least she’ll have peace today and tonight. We’ll see when she figures out that he’s gone. Poor kitteh.

Dishwasher is empty and I dumped some vinegar in. In a little bit I’ll add some baking soda then run a hot rinse.

I took Trevor out and threw a stick for him. He’s now crashed next to my recliner. Little wuss…

We got just enough to dampen the plants. We’re slated for more this afternoon though.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, working on the Sunday chores and then I’ll chill.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Day 2 of a three-day weekend (for those in the States), and happy first day of my birthday month! It’s currently only 72°F, but rainy and muggy and pretty “blah” outside. I don’t mind, though, 'cause birthday month.

Yesterday I slept in (until 8am!), then edited a travelogue for my dad. Whenever he takes a trip, he writes it up afterwards and sends the document to me for editing before he shares it with others: he and my brother often take trips together, and a week ago they drove from Baltimore to NJ/NY/CT to see some particular things over the course of a few days. I’d gotten a courtesy invite to join them, but (a) I wasn’t at all interested in what they were going to see, (b) neither of them really wanted me to go, and (b) I would pay good money to avoid being on a trip with either of them – let alone both of them! I deliberately haven’t traveled with my brother since we were kids, and haven’t gone anywhere with my dad since 2006 (the first and last time I took a trip with him as an adult). It’s much better for our relationships if I simply edit the tales of their adventures.

Anyway, when I finished that I started drafting a post here but ran out of time before needing to go to my noon personal training session. After the gym I made the traditional grocery store stop for bananas (etc.), but otherwise it was an afternoon and evening of sloth: I spent most of the time on the couch, watching TV and sometimes also coloring (in this book with these markers).

TV and coloring will be my plan again this afternoon/evening, but first I need to work for a little while. Technically it could wait – no one’s making me work today – but I have a first-thing-Thursday-morning deadline and it’ll be much easier/I’ll get more done if I go ahead and spend a couple hours on it today. I don’t really mind, because I have nothing else to do today and I have tomorrow off. And I won’t work for long.

The only plans I have tomorrow are to attend a mid-afternoon personal training session: I’ll be going into the office again on Tuesday, and I could still make that evening’s usual session but my trainer was able to move it to tomorrow. Which I greatly appreciated. On Tuesday it’ll be really nice to be able to just stay home once I’m done working.

In other news, my staycation begins in two weeks! Plans for that are shaping up nicely: so far I have a trip to the Spy Museum with my BFFs (they’ve been before, but somehow I haven’t!), renewing my first aid/CPR certification*, and tentative plans for dinner/live jazz with other friends one night. There will be some personal training sessions in there, too, and I might try to fit in a flu shot + the new COVID vaccine. So, some things to look forward to but also plenty of time to do absolutely nothing (and/or build Legos!).

*It’s something I’ve done several times over the past ~30 years. My last cert expired a year ago, and I recently got to thinking that some fresh training/recertification before the November election might not be a bad idea. I’ll be an election officer, and therefore will be spending 15-16 hours at the polling place. To be clear, I just think in-person turnout might be high and that it can’t hurt to be prepared: I’m not expecting violence/injuries!

The former would have been a great question for me to ask the guy on Wednesday! :woman_facepalming: I really have no idea. I’ll ask when I go back in November.

I’m not planning to get anything else…at least, not in the same location. Ever since my mom died in 2015 I’ve toyed with the idea of getting some kind of tattoo in her memory, and I have a vague design idea, but I can’t decide where I’d want it to go. I already have a G-clef tattoo on one of my ankles. So far the best idea I’ve had is the very top of one of my thighs – a location that would only ever be visible to others if I were wearing a swimsuit or having naked fun time – but I haven’t had that “this is definitely what I want and where I want to get it” feeling yet. So at least for now, I remain with only 1.5 tattoos. (Whenever Bailey dies, I may want to get a tat in her memory, too; I might be subconsciously waiting until then.)

Yeah. Plus the laser hurts (thankfully the sessions are <15 min), and there’s usually some itching for a few days afterwards. Not to mention that the package was $3000. Just like getting a tattoo, removal is something a person needs to be 100% sure about. I’d thoroughly researched the process, though, and knew what I was getting into. I’d been thinking about having this tat removed for a couple of years before I pulled the trigger.

Sounds like her tummy issues are better…?

Lucky boys!!

I’ve lived in places both with and without them, and now it’s something I look for when I’m looking at rentals. The absence of one wouldn’t be a dealbreaker all on its own, but I definitely prefer having one when possible.

I picked up some oatmeal cranberry cookies at the grocery store’s bakery yesterday.

That’s what I forgot to put on my list/get! :woman_facepalming: I meant to buy more Lean Cuisines. Ah well; there’s always tomorrow (or Tuesday…I pass the same grocery store on the way home from both the gym and the office I’ll be going to).

The humanity!!

Wouldn’t you be able to smell it?

Amen!!

(plus Google Notes and Calendar reminders for me…)

Phew! Sounds like you managed to find some silver lining last night, though.

Good boy.

Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask: now that you’ve had the hearing aids for a little while, have you noticed any helpfulness while coaching/refereeing games?

I’ve seen pictures of fruit pizzas, but have never been in a room with one. Might need to rectify that sometime soon…

Okay, so in the category of things totally NOT planned for this weekend, the removal of a small bat which had decided to attach itself to the light fixture in our living room is now complete and all involved are unharmed. And contrary to my wife’s dire predictions, I did not end up with rabies.

I have had a bat house out back for 2 friggin’ years and not a bat in sight. Just my luck that I only have bats that prefer A/C.

Not really, though she did say her poo [TMI] was slightly firmer Saturday morning. She will have a proper dinner once a week; or, as with Friday and Saturday, twice a week.

Here’s my to-to list for today:

  • Drop off a package to Amazon at The UPS Store.
  • Take the can of paint to the hardware store for a good shaking.
  • Buy a bunch of screw-eyes for putting a tarp over the canopy shed (which has a leaky roof), and a new paint brush, and Jet-Dry.
  • Paint the three weathered boards on the deck.
  • Check the lottery tickets.
  • Attempt to put the tarp on the canopy shed today, rather than tomorrow.

I swear if I hear one more f’in time about the f’in pants that are so f’in comfortable but they’re not the same as the f’in ones we bought then returned, remember??

< deep cleansing breath >

Yeah, they’re back from church…

I try to be patient. I try to understand how difficult it is - I truly do. But sometimes… Luckily it’s now nap time.

flyboy The hardware stores around here won’t shake a can of paint that came from out of the store. I’m guessing too many times of the can not being properly sealed and making a huge mess in the shaker. Are yours nicer? Good luck on the rest of the tasks.

zak Good job with the A/C reliant bat.

I also should avail myself of fruit pizza. It sounds lovely.
