(Old) Meticulously Monday the MMP!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 18c/64f with a predicted high of 20c/67f and cloudy. Weather app says “Sometimes, stratus clouds are known as “high fog”. I fucking knew it! Fucking dope smokers!” I’m not sure if that’s condemnation or validation - take it how you like!

Taters good for you telling people who did the work, it’s really unfair if the MPA gets credit for work you’ve done. It’s high time you pushed back on things when it’s affecting you so badly, especially those higher up the food chain who should be doing their best not to make life so hard for you with their failure to accommodate your deadlines.

VanGo I hope the new anti-bees are going to give you the result you need.

shoe I don’t understand people who phone for a pizza before they’ve decided what they want. We always make sure we know what we’re ordering before we pick the phone up.

JtC Shadow has always had a thing for people food, Ophelia was much more picky. She would have ham but only the good stuff, and occasionally she’d have some raw meat but never cooked stuff. Shadow would hoover up pretty much anything he was offered, and to this day I can’t have tuna without sharing it with him.

Moooom I hope you can find a taker for the china. I still my mum’s posh dinner service (it was a wedding gift from my dad’s mother), it’s carefully packaged and stored in a cupboard. Sadly I don’t really use it (there are reasons). Hers is Royal Doulton’s Reflections range.

Red I’m sorry to hear about your volunteer’s passing, that must have been a shock to everyone.

Cookie that was a cool video - I’m glad you’re able to enjoy thunderboomers now. I love a good thunderstorm but we very rarely get them, which is very disappointing.

I have a lot on my to-do list for the rest of this week. It’s our next Board of Examiners meeting next Wednesday so we’re getting the last lot of marks in, getting feedback sorted out, looking at what’s failed, and finalising recommendations for students. Busy, busy, busy! Plus I have a newbie starting on Monday so I need to get some stuff ready for her.

Today will mainly be chasing around for the last lot of marks, and then tonight I will hopefully be out with a couple of friends. I shall wait to hear from them, we had already decided on the pub we will go to since the football season’s started and Wolves have a home game tonight. That means all the usual places we would consider will be packed so we need to get out of town.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and then have N.O.L. at the local good seafood/fish place. I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for catfish filets. The afternoon shall be filled by nappage, day drinkin’ and other RDOS inactivities.

red so sorry about your co-volunteer. Such a young age!

BooFae happy pub night.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I managed to sleep till nearly 5:30! And the peasants rejoiced! Dunno what today holds, but we need a convenience center run soon. And FCD thinks the boat work should be about done today, so he’ll head down there first thing. No clue what’s in store for me. Apart from the usual aggravations…

Happy Wednesday!

Good morning all. Another day, another near 100F afternoon. My only weekday without soccer practice, so will do a few errands and get my swimming in. Otherwise it’s looking at cleaning jobs around the house and trying to resist them.

FCM, you mean…you might actually be able to go out on the boat!!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

VanGo, hope you feel better soon. And no insurance sucks.

Shoe, I still say you and your crew should be submitting stuff to the website "Not Always Right’, and just remember, for there to be average intelligence, there has to be a substantial number below the curve…

boo fae, hope you get the marks chased down and can find a pub that is not footie-crazy.

OK, need to break my fast and see if the checking account on-line agrees with my ledger. Take care all.

Well, lessee - the fresh water system needs to be reworked. The starboard fuel tank needs to be repaired. The forward washdown pump needs to be replaced. The instruments on the flybridge need to be installed. So, um, not in the immediate future, nope.

It was a wild start to my (3:15) homeward commute from Burien yesterday. The skies were pretty dark when I left the office. As I was driving on the 518 toward the 405 (there was a wreck blocking lanes on the 5, so Waze sent me that way) it started to hail. Then it really started to hail. Then it really, really started to hail. And pretty big hail, at that. I’m estimating around 8 mm. It was coming down so hard and so heavy, I couldn’t hear my radio. I was worried that it would break the windshield. Several cars pulled to the side of the road and took shelter under overpasses. Then I had an idea: I’d call the Spousal Unit so that she could hear how fantastically loud it was. As expected, as soon as I got the phone out of its holder (on the dashboard) and opened the phone app, the hail started slackening off. I put the phone back so Waze could tell me where to go, and it was clear and sunny within a couple of minutes.

my uncle passed on this morning … the one I think I mentioned he was staying with us …and now the bag of shit that one goes through this with this family has begun …

its gonna be a long day

:people_hugging:

I hope things calm down soon.

What is it with some older people and how much they paid for stuff? The couple we bought this house from told us they spent $700 on the rather hideous dining room chandelier - maybe in the hope that we’d treasure it? Dunno - it was gone within 4 months. Then today, yet again, MIL has been going on about the Shaw area rug that cost $$$ that she loved so much, but BIL doesn’t want it (and even if we had a place for it, it’s not our style.) I don’t know what to tell her - none of us want her rug and if I were lucky, I might get $50 for it, less than a tenth of what she paid.

I tell ya, back in my day, gas was a quarter a gallon and you could buy a house for $30k! Uphill, both ways!

Update on the $100k outboards - the boat belongs to the guy who owns the Toyota and Hyundai dealerships. He brought in a special crew who arrived at the boatyard with a closed trailer full of tools. So the guy has a few $$$. Maybe he’ll buy the rug?

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

What’s weird about that fear is that both my ex and my present wife thought it was amusing. Both of them being normally sympathetic people and yet they thought that my very real fear was funny. My present wife finally got it when I had a panic attack at a fireworks display. I don’t understand people, but it helps me understand why PTSD was dismissed as some sort of hysteria for a long time.

Less chaotic on the Slides today. which was nice for a change. It’s getting hot in here, though.

The Wolfpack plays tomorrow.

They got the West Virginia up and running faster after Pearl Harbor than the Fairy Chat Yacht is taking.

{{{{shades}}}} I’m sorry

I have fond memories of my paternal grandparents taking me to Kings Island and my grandfather giving me heck for eating a caramel apple. Partially because he had a full set of dentures and didn’t want me to follow his example. Thanks for the memories.

That is gorgeous!

:notes: Back in the gutter again :notes:

Thank you for sharing! Looks unreal. Not sure I’ve ever seen a rainbow during a thunderstorm.

That’s good to hear. My mom also has to make sure she has enough salt, especially when it’s hot and she drinks lots of water. So far I haven’t been told to eat more salt, but my BP is very low.

Had to tell my brain that out goes before eats. Le sigh.

Sounds positive.

I can’t imagine calling and trying to place an order without first writing down my order. But then I don’t like calling people.

I’m so sorry. :people_hugging:

Stomach’s still a bit iffy, but getting better. Weather’s back to being warm. Got the soaker hose going in the back yard. Maybe I should have set the timer to keep track of it. I think I’ll just leave it go for another half hour to make sure it gets a good soaking, since the rest of the week will be warm and there’s no rain in the forecast.

Suppose I should go get something to eat. Getting bored of toast and eggs, but I still need to let my digestion settle. Should probably drink some more water too.

Storm fronts here always move from west to east. This one came barreling across the state as the sun was setting, so the weather was clearing behind it and allowing the sun to break through.

One reason I love online ordering. I can take as long as I want to read the menu and make decisions without inconveniencing staff or other customers.

Yeah, but they didn’t rely on 2 senior citizens, one of whom had multiple spinal surgeries! :stuck_out_tongue:

So, did you feel it? Did you sense the disturbance in The Force?

< pause for dramatic effect >

I dusted!!!

OK, not the bedrooms, but the main living areas. Then I went downstairs and rolled up a queen size memory foam mattress topper - that was exciting. I had to go steal a 42 gallon heavy-duty garbage bag from FCD’s shop to contain it. But it’s done, so yay!

When I was down there, I saw all the china I’d unwrapped - it all needs to be rewrapped under the assumption that I can sell it to Replacements. Otherwise, I don’t know what I’ll do. I won’t take it to the thrift store - they have waaaaay too much china as it is. We’ll wait and see.

FCD is back in his shop. Since I rollsucked and dusted, I think I deserve a break.

Welllll … mostly, but we had to “train” a regular who started using the online ordering (yay!) except she’d … specify “NO” for every. single. one. of. our. fourteen. fucking. toppings. that. she. didn’t. want. except. for. the. pepperoni … so the printer would take ages to print out a CVS receipt looking thing you could wear as a scarf, because each “NO xyz topping” is a separate line item, and we’d have to play “Scavenger Hunt” to find the one “ADD” among the endless “NO” toppings, and may all the gawds bless Sweet Manager for finally, gently, explaining to her how an online ordering system works.

(HINT: you don’t hafta tell us what you don’t want. Just tell us what you DO want.)
ETA: unless it’s an allergy situation, which this was not.

But yes, for the most part, online orders are generally a godsend to us & we try to make folks aware as much as possible.

Bitch about multiple tries to get through on the phones? Sweet, syrupy smile, a less-than-heartfelt apology about how we’re so busy, and a mention of the website.

Most people are like, “Oh, cool! I didn’t know, I’ll use that next time your phones are busy.”

A subset responds in a negative huff about “technology these days” which earns you the Death Smile Of Doom ™ and your food handed to you swiftly, with no offers of additional freebies like plates or napkins or Parm or red peppers.

I’ll take over; that sounds pretty good!

Yesterday wasn’t crazy, but it was kinda nonstop: four meetings, a mid-day tattoo removal appointment, several ad hoc reports that needed to be edited and/or delivered, proposal-related instructions that had to be drafted for someone who’s new to that world, a Teams chat with the direct report who’s on vacation for a week starting today, various random questions that needed to be answered, and an earlier-than-usual personal training session (I logged off work at 4:30, which is ~1 hour early for me). And, of course, a stop at the grocery store on the way home from the gym.

While at the store I got some pre-made chicken salad sliders from the deli: usually if I get something from the convenience case that’s what I’ll have for dinner, but when I got home and opened the freezer I suddenly had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for the last box of Lean Cuisine fettuccine alfredo. So the sliders went in the fridge and became today’s lunch. Because of that shift, I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to try the PB&J crêpes I found.

Today has been manageable (so far), my 4pm meeting got cancelled, and I’m happy to have zero plans after I log off work. Tomorrow will be busy, but then Friday and the holiday weekend should be nice and quiet ( :crossed_fingers: ).

Unless I’m expecting someone, which is rare, I never answer my door. From a certain point on my sidewalk people can see me when I’m sitting at my desk, and I’ve flat-out ignored folks even after being spotted. Not my problem. One of the reasons I love a locking storm door is because any knocking on that is much quieter!

If you’re willing to share a ballpark whenever you hear from them, please do! When my mom moved to assisted living in 2012, I took her Wedgwood tea set: I still have the full set, in perfect condition (in the Belle Fleur pattern), and have been meaning to ping Replacements about it since shortly after she died in 2015. I dread the “packing and shipping” part, though.

Yesterday I got an email and a text message from one of the people who took over my former volunteer committee at the end of June, frantically asking me for a code that Canva supposedly sent to my Gmail address (so he could log in and order more of the informational brochures I created). I never got a code from Canva. Finally he sent me a screen shot of the message he was seeing, and he’d typed the email address (aka the login name) wrong. I was glad it was an easy fix!

I’m so sorry! :frowning:

I’d be willing to testify on your behalf at that trial.

Ugh. :people_hugging:

Any chance it has a nonslip backing?

(I ask, knowing full well that $$$ rugs never do! Nonslip are the only ones I buy these days; no rug pads for me.)

Sounds like a sub-optimal interface for said online ordering, that could have been done a lot better to make life simpler for customers and store staff. Yeah, there’s some PEBKAC in there, but it’s not completely on her, IMO.

Howdy Y’all! Provisions got procured and we were well-fed at the local good seafood/fish place. OYKW wanted fried shrimpies and I, of course, wanted catfish filets. We shared so we each could have some of both. We also shared fries, coleslaw, okra and green beans. Needless to say, we were stuffded and needed nappage after gettin’ back to da cave. I am still kinda full, but shall manage evenin’ popcorn along with Netflix and chill.

{{{shades}} sorry about your uncle. Here’s hopin’ things remain calm in the comin’ days.

MOOOOOOM since the guy can afford $100k outboadb motors he obviously needs a $$$ area rug for the boat. Also, back in my day gas was a quarter a gallon and you could buy a house for $30k! Uphill, both ways, in the snow! Even in August!

Dicey hope the tummy settles down soonest.

shoe one should never underestimate the amount of stoopid people in the world.

Nettie I agree about online orderin’. One of the best things about teh intartoobz.

Sure - no prob. I looked up some of the pieces that she has and I’m going to guess they’ll offer between 1/3 and 1/2 of the retail price. Dunno if I’ll get more for entire sets, like the dozen demitasse-and-saucer… But, yeah, the packing will be a challenge.

I can tell you this - she had it on her dining area wood floor, and it didn’t slip. It’s a heavy sucker!!

As I recall, your day was my day! :stuck_out_tongue: Or has your 70-y/o brain forgotten that??

We had a thrown-together supper tonight. Egg salad, Jiffy mix cornbread (don’t judge me!!!) with corn added, cantaloupe, and grape 'maters. The cornbread didn’t rise, but I think it’s because I just threw in frozen corn instead of heating it first. It tasted OK, but it was kinda heavy.

Dishwasher is sloshing away. I know this is going to jinx it, but that appliance is creeping up on 20 years old. I can’t believe it either!!! The top rack is gradually rusting away and the flatware basket has several gaps that I attempted to block with zip ties. I don’t even want to think about having to replace it. Fortunately, should it die, I can still hand-wash, so getting another won’t be a rush job.

I mentioned my plan to read To Kill a Mockingbird - well, I struggled mightily to get thru the first chapter. So I gave up, at least for now. Instead, I’m reading Oliver Twist. Nothing like a little Dickens to brighten your day!

OK, my recliner misses me, so I shall rejoin it.
