(Old) “Oh shit! I see Monday!” - Spot‘s new MMP (told you I liked it)

i’m sorry to read this. y’all keep getting punched over and over.

strength and peace to y’all.

I was involved with Sunday Assembly for a few years, and it can be a good way to get involved with like minded folks. I served on the Help Often committee and was the kids coordinator for a few years. We did projects like adopting a section of a creek for cleanup, volunteered with Second Harvest, Nashville Diaper Connection and served meals at Room at the Inn (yeah, we heathens even worked cooperatively with Xian service orgs). One of the service projects that near and dear to my heart was our supply drive for animal shelters. My work hours no longer work with attending, but I still keep in touch and see some of the members. Oasis is a similar organization if you find one locally.

Yanno, you don’t have to eat it roasted. Essentially, treat it like a big chicken and pull the cooked meat off the bone for tetrazini, noodles, turkey pie or homemade dog food.

(((FCFamily)))

Taking a baking break. I got the saffron buns and the poppy seed cakes done this morning and will begin the pumpkin pie in a bit.

It’s beginning to get cold here now, so I brought my heavy winter coat in from the car for Nelson’s walks this afternoon and evening

Read all, some of it stuck.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

As Og is my witness, 25% of the stuff sent to the 200 Slide is just data entry/merely tying in the tracking number because the scan bar is bad. Kids these days can’t function if it’s not voice command or touchscreens. Thus ends dogbutler’s first official Old Person RantTM
Also the start time was 0300, but a significant chunk of the building came in at 0330. So I was in the DELV trailer and The Mez for the the first 45 minutes. But somehow, I got out a a reasonable time.

Sounds like you and your weather app are at fucking odds.

I shall keep watch.

Well, Imperial Thanksgiving. Metric Thanksgiving was in October. And the English celebrate “Sod Off, Humorless Puritans!” Day.

Lessee - Jessica has been and gone, and MIL never got out of bed. I went back a few minutes ago to adjust the timer on her electric blanket - it turns off after 9 hours if left to its own devices. The grandspawn are gone also - I even got them to clean the basement of all their crap. Ziva ventured out since it’s all quiet, and of course, just as I picked up my camera, she walked away. Brat.

I asked FCD to call me when he leaves the hospital - whenever it is, he’ll get caught in DC traffic. Poor baby. What with people getting out early and travelers passing thru the area, it’ll be stoopit crazy in town and around the beltway, then down MD5 to get home.

I have the stuffin’ muffins in the pan ready to be baked. I made the green stuff, tho it’s not green enough - the recipe calls for 2 pistachio puddings and I’d only bought 1. No way will I venture out for one stoopit package of pudding. I expect it’ll be eaten anyway. Tomorrow when I get up, I’ll get the bird unwrapped, dried, and seasoned so it can go in the oven around 1130. I’ve got a schedule for when the stuffing will go in, when I need to steam the broccoli, when I need to make the gravy (from packets - don’t judge!!) and when I should get the table set (paper plates, because!)

For now, I think it’s crochet time. I started a new one last night - just need to decide the color sequence - I think I’ve chosen 5 colors for this one. And while I do that, I’ll find a documentary. The last 2 days I watched a series about George Washington, then a single episode about the War of 1812. After all the British shows I’ve watched, it’s kinda weird to see some where I know the places they talk about. In fact, I learned that the Brits landed in Benedict, MD in 1814 - I have driven thru there many times and had no idea of its history!

OK, off to my recliner for a while.

I’m running late but checked in to see how your MIL is doing, FCM. Holy Moe, now your BIL is in crisis. I hope you can get extra help for his stay with you. I know your MIL has Jessica and others, but BIL comes with a satchel of needs and problems, and caring for him is going to be a lot.

I want to hug poor FCD. All this and then his car wouldn’t start.

Forrest Gump: Sometimes I guess there just aren’t enough rocks.

My last movie was either The Martian or The Man from UNCLE – they came out the same year, and I can’t remember which was first.

I will be eating turkey at a traditional family gathering. But I also buy a medium sized bird for myself. It’s thawing now. I’ll roast it Friday while baking bread for the dinner, which will actually be on Saturday. I will take the meat off of the bones to have during the next few months. I also boil the bones, skin, etc for broth.

I love the idea of stuffing in a muffin tin. I’ll try this next time!

When I saw the recipe, I thought it was inspired!!! And I used the pan with oversized muffin cups - the recipe was for the regular size, so I guess I should adjust baking time accordingly.

FCD just called - he had a hard time finding his car, then while talking to me on the phone. he missed a couple of turns… but when he told me where he was, I told him where to go. Anyway, he’s at least an hour out, probably longer due to traffic. And he just told me he thinks our milk is off. Like I’m going to buy milk today. Hope I don’t need any for a recipe…

OK, back to crocheting for a while.

I heated up Trader Joe’s Chicken Piccata for dinner the other night. Last night I heated up Trader Joe’s Traditional Meatloaf. I thought we could have ham sandwiches for dinner tonight, but I was already lazy two nights in a row. Chicken? No, there will probably be turkey tomorrow. Pork chops? That’s the ol’ standby, but I didn’t feel like it. So about 20 minutes ago I put rot post in the oven. Naturally, I bought a 3-pound hunka deadcow. In an oven preheated to 350º Ferret Height, it should take three hours. Maybe. So it might be done by 16 o’clock. I never put in enough mushrooms, so I put in a full pound this time.

Slow irk day. The orifice is closing at 14:00. I’ve got one thing to take care of. I guess I’d better do it.

One more Sadie photo, if you can stand it.

She is so beautiful. The symettry of her face is perfect.

Sadie is a beautiful kitty. So happy you kept her.

And the hits just keep coming!

I’m so happy you were able to spend some time with your mom. I know it was only a short break, but at least you got one.

I never thought about it before, but yeah, that does make sense. I briefly considered it, but traditionally dinner before t-day has always been all about clearing out the left-overs, that’s what we are doing tonight. Friday we will have pork chops and Saturday we will have our own feast.

Hubs is planning to brine our turkey and I asked him if he was planning to spatchcock it before brining and he said he didn’t think he could do one in our smoker. He was so sure that that I went back through my pics and found a pic of last year’s spatchcoked bird.

I sent him a copy of a pic of the bird and it did nothing. He didn’t even remember using my long handled garden loppers on it.

As long as there is food, the chaos can be overcome.

I hope you make lots of tips and have a great feast with S.M.

With different partners. We aren’t really clear about much of it, but there are seven kids and five adults. While they don’t live together, it seems as though the number of kids in any given home is fluid.

Which will be the one I will be watching with my eyes peeled for a green dino!

It’s time for xmas carols. The Lovecraft Historical Society hasn’t put out the 2024 album yet so I’m listing to some of my old favorites instead. Of course I always warm up with Harley got Devoured by the Undead, so cheerful and fun. They do the more traditional songs like Death to the World and I’m Dreaming of a Dead City, so there’s something for everyone!!

Such a handsome guy!

I suspected that was where we had friends in common but i wasn’t positive.

It really is a great, open-minded and wonderful group. It’s giving me a chance to sing again and to put myself out there in ways I otherwise would. And the speakers are always interesting people.

Yeah, I’m becoming an excitable zealot. :joy:

I decided to try to do some Uber Eats deliveries today. It was incredibly slow and most of my customers decided that tips were optional. It probably wasn’t worth it to go out but… at list it got me out of the house for a bit. And sometimes, that’s the best self-care. And I can always hope for a better time over the weekend.

Howdy Y’all! Got a lot of prep work done today. Even Mr. Tom is all ready to be roasted up tomorrow. I went to the Thanksgiving service which was good. Priest was happy to see me as more folks showed up than anticipated so I jumped in to assist at Communion. I even managed to accomplish nappage and day drinkin’. Go Me!

MOOOOOOM dang! Y’all just don’t seem to catch a break lately. I may try dressin’ muffins for OYKW and myself sometime. Not tomorrow as I have a biiiiiig dish of cornbread dressin’ made up.

shoe we supped on majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. Hope tonight is not too crazy and the tips are good.

Oopsie yay for not dealin’ with that proposal anymore!

I was busy with Thanksgiving prep, so decided to Uber over to the shot clinic. GPS directed the driver to the woods behind my apartment–as in, “Whoops! Mind the oak!” This usually happens with Uber, even if I use the app on the street in front of my complex. Then it directed him to turn at the wrong place. The upshot is that I was 4 minutes late. I’m always early, so the nurses were worried about me. Wasn’t that sweet of them?

The bus drivers on the way home were happy and funny. This one rider, J.,though, was distraught because last week, a 67-year-old veteran friend of his got severely beaten because he told a big guy who was harassing him to leave him alone. This was in a hospital lobby. J. tried to stop the attacker and got hit in the process, and when J. called for help, nobody responded. Telling us, he started crying and said he couldn’t talk about it any more. He did say that the guy ran before cops arrived, and that his friend is still alive. (I should add that J was well-dressed and not homeless.) I kept thinking, “If only Jane the Cane had been there!”

cookie, Sadie is gorgeous! I got a chuckle at the look in her eyes, though, as it clearly says, “I know exactly what you’re planning, human. The last guy who tried that is now a newt living in Hoboken.”

Wifey, RN has returned from her rounds. One of her patients isn’t looking too good… and the other person (Another patient? Caregiver?) said today is one of his good days.

The Missus says the aroma of the pot roast is making her hungry. It’s a good thing it’s done.

It looks like we will be smoking a turkey tomorrow as well. I heard hubs doing stuff in the kitchen and didn’t think anything about it because why would I? I went out to get some more icewaterwithlemon in time to see him putting the turkey into the brine. I got a beer instead.

It’s all good. He forgot that we were going to Harry’s tomorrow, but he can put it in the smoker before we leave and come home and check on it once in a while.

I baked three batches of cookies and made cranberry sauce today so all I have to do tomorrow is match my sweater to my pants before going out. Happily, it is cold enough for me to wear my uggs so I don’t have to worry about matching socks to outfit or each other.

I love bundling up in warm clothes but don’t like having to take layers off before going outside due to the AZ habit of death by AC, even in the so-called winters.

I love the winter, I’m so happy we have moved somewhere with real ones! The forecast for tomorrow is light snow, I hope its right!

This afternoon I realized that I was going to need a new lighter soon and have a rule about shopping on Thanksgiving (or xmas or easter or any of the days that used to be closed but are now open due to corp greed) so told Hubs I was going to town. He asked me to pick up a bag of butterscotch so I went to the grocery sto.

Or should I say I drove by the packed parking lot and went to the dollar sto instead. They had little bags of butterscotch for as much as the big bag he wanted and I took about a nanosecond to decide that he would have to survive with the little bag because I didn’t love him enough to battle the day-before-t-day crowd for them.

She’s lovely. I’m so happy for everyone that it has worked out so well.

In a hospital lobby. :sob: Those are supposed to be safe places. This is not the world I want to live in.

Homeless or not, nobody should be harassed and beaten.

I did it before, I’ll do it again if needed.

Pro tip: If you have to defend yourself physically, hit them like you mean it. You will only get one chance to make a first impression, make it a good one.

Evening all. Did all my gym stuff early since they are closing up at 7pm instead of 10pm as usual, while the dishwasher did it’s thing while I was gone. So immediately dirtied some more dishes with a Chee-burger, Chips, and an apple with cookies and crackers afterward, so now I have to put the clean dishes away so I can put the dirty ones in the dishwasher… :notes: The Circle of Life… :musical_note:

As for the crew here:

Coppertone, three words I learned to fear when I lived in N. Ohio were “Lake Effect Snow”, with “Wind Chill Factor” being right behind. Take care of yourself.

Taters, hadn’t run across the Subaru Ascent, looked it up and it’s a nice-looking vehicle, but the Expedition is probably better for this trip.

Oopsie, two predictions (1), the idiots will foul things up and (2) either they’ll blame you or the powers that be will make you fix it. TANJ–There Ain’t No Justice.
Still, you got Legos and they gave you clothing.

Cookie, it was tough, but I made it through the Sadie picture… She is a cutie, no doubt about it.

JtC,

And there is another word I can’t ever remember hearing before. Looked it up and it was interesting, but doesn’t sound like it will happen this year…

Your Lovecraftian Carols sound like something the Addams Family would sing.

nellie, a sad tale on the bus, some people are not good at playing with others, to our society’s detriment.

And dinner has been dined upon, will shortly get a couple Mott’s applesauce containers out for dessert and readin’ and internettin’ will occupy the balance of the evening. Take care all.
