(Old) Spot-ify: The MMP That's The Cat's Meow

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. We’ll come back to da cave for a sammich N.O.L. and various RDOS inactivities. Sup will be chili/cheese/onion/slawdawgs with oven fries. There will be no watchin’ of the Superb Owl as neither of us couldn’t care less.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Ok, I give. At your feet? Seems like an interesting place to store them!

Annie and I are the only ones awake so far. Not sure what the plans are for today.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s a good day to be someone’s fucking sunshine, because that stupid fucking ball of fire in the sky is fucking hiding.”

We had a fun night out yesterday, the bands were good and we got to chat with some of the guys afterwards. We popped into the Posada for a couple of drinks before heading home.

I have no plans for today apart from trying not to do anything that makes my neck and shoulder hurt. 'im indoors is making Chinese chicken curry and egg-fried rice for dinner tonight so I don’t need to do anything for that. The rollsuck really ought to be pushed around the house but I am not even contemplating that kind of activity.

Off to sloth!

I haven’t been able to figger this out from context - what’s a reach-in? And I echo sticky’s query about ribs at your feet…

I don’t know why it is that I fall asleep by 11 and I wake shortly after midnight for no apparent reason. My sleep cycle is so wonky of late. So are my eyes - thank goodness I have an appointment on the 26th. I’ve got several things to address with the eye doc. Stoopit eyes.

As for the football game - I’m not at all interested (frankly, I never am) but FCD might watch. Maybe. Dunno. Football just doesn’t do it for me. One thing especially I don’t get is why so many players keep doing stuff that they shouldn’t, and they keep getting called and penalized for it. One would think the coach would be all “Knock it off, jock-boy!!” Especially when the stoopit penalties cost them a game. Dunno…

Today and tomorrow are supposed to be relatively decent days with snow and rain and ick moving in Tues thru Thurs. I’m hoping FCD tends to the mowers tomorrow. I think I’ve mentioned that I’m going to wrangle the grands at their own house - it’ll just be easier for me, and FCD has agreed to be my chauffeur. I just need to work out their supper - I’ll discuss that with Daughter today.

But nothing special on today’s agenda. At least not yet. Oh, and FCD declined the thermal analysis request - he fears it’ll turn into a long-term project, like the one that was supposed to be about 2 months and it dragged out for 2 years before fizzling out. Can’t say that I blame him. He doesn’t need the aggravation.

Our current series on BritBox is a cop show called No Offence - it’s a dramedy. Even tho we miss parts of the dialog because they sometimes talk really fast, we get enough to follow the story and get some genuine laughs. Usually at rude-ish bits. I’ve created a watchlist of shows I want to at least try. There have been a few that we started and gave up on, but some others that we really liked. I’d say we’re getting our money’s worth (tho I don’t recall what the annual subscription cost.)

And so my day begins. I’ll figure it out as it progresses. Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do the usual morning cleaning and afternoon sloth. The way Spot gets excited over my morning vitamins leads e to believe he was a junkie in a previous life.

I’m watching the Puppy Bowl this year. :dog:

small reach in in fridge, as opposed to the giant walk in fridge.

Good morning.

It’s 34F, and sloppy snow is falling from the sky. The snowfall will stop very soon, and we’ll have cloudy skies, turning to afternoon cloudiness with peeks of sunshine and a high temperature of 42F.

I am also not interested in football or today’s game. I expect the stupids around me will let off fireworks, freaking out my Maisie.

This is how much I hate clothes shopping, and I put off the trip again, so I have absolutely no choice today and must go. My husband also wants to go to the Black Bear Diner later because he has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for chicken fried steak and gravy. I really don’t like that place, but we’ll go there. It seems to me we could find a better place.

Aaaargh, Maise just puked. I don’t know what it was, but I have a terrible feeling she ate part of a sock. I keep telling my husband to put his damn socks in the bottom of the hamper under other clothes. Anyway, I’ve cleaned up the puke and treated the spot with spot cleaner, and Maisie seems no worse for the wear.

Johnny, I fully understand how you feel. Now that I can no longer use telework, my output will fall within the hours at the office. I do not plan to haul my laptop back and forth, so it will remain at its docking station at the office. Also, I hope the labs for Goo show good results.

JtC, I’m sorry about the waterbed woes. I haven’t slept on a waterbed since the early 80s. It wasn’t mine, and it was very wavy.

I still have my baseball shirts from the Pacific YMCA High School Conferences in the late 70s and first year of the 80s. And I found some old sleep t-shirts from high school too. I sleep pretty much nekkid (unless I’m traveling), so jammies last a long time. I still have my shirts from the Who concert in 1982, Journey around the same time, and U2 in the early 2000s.

Well, I should finish my coffee and do the dishes. After that, I’ll take a shower and get ready for being out in public.

Yay for shiny new technology, Chef.

FCM, sounds like a nice mower. If I ever get to move to a place with a big yard, I want a riding mower, too, with a cup holder for my water.

Our old mower has a cup holder - I didn’t notice if the new one does or not. Altho I’ve never taken a beverage with me, tho I’ve used it for cans and bottles I’ve picked up. We live at an intersection and for whatever reason, some people think our side yard is a garbage dump. Assholes…

OK, I’m showered and dressed and, um, well, yeah. I think I’ll start with my daily sudoku, then see what’s next.

I think they’re pretending that it never happened.

My grandkidlet Harriet is so excited for the puppy Bowl! We set up the tv yesterday to be sure to record it and we’ll make a production out of watching it, with special treats and all. We each pick a MVP* puppy at the beginning. (most valuable puppy)

I seem to be the Mumper most interested in the Super Bowl, a mantle I can live with. My daughter and SIL are big Chiefs fans and I gradually got into following the team with them. I was already an ardent University of Nebraska Cornhusker :football: fan , their stadium is a mile away from me, so it was easy to slide into being a Chiefs fan too. Saturdays are college :football:, Sundays are Go Chiefs!

We’ll watch a few hours starting about 5pm, then I’ll take a 2 hour break to put the beloved rug rats to bed, then I’ll watch the rest on time delay. It’ll keep me out of trouble and off the streets.

Spot is asleep, so I have 15 seconds to make my bed.

You misspelled “beer”.

Sounds like half the businesses I’ve worked for.

Good morning all. Have collected the Sunday NY Times and am waiting until the appropriate hour to head over to Longhorn for dinner. It has definitely cooled down some, 45F and only getting to 50F. Looks like it will stay that way for the next week or so, with rain expected on about half of the days. Oh joy.

As for the Super Bowl, I usually watch it, it’s about the only tackleball game I’ll see every year from beginning to end. Unlike many, I’ll skip the halftime show(s), never been much taken by them. This is also the one time each year I get a big (well, 13oz) bag of Lays Chips and eat the whole thing during the game…because Tradition!!

Indeed so.

JtC, happy mattress and lampshade dealings.

There may be something to that…

I will consider it. And enjoy your ribs!

Happy Vergering swampy

My guess (from my long-ago experience in restaurant work) is a reach-n is a refregerator/freezer that you open the door and 'reach in ’ to get stuff, while the ‘walk-in’ is usually much larger and you’re literally in the same room with the foodstuffs.

Sticky Buns, hope you make the best of a day that you’ve half-talked yourself into be miserable. May the shopping be quick and easy and the food unexpectedly pleasurable.

And onward to the usual Sunday You-Tubers and Dinner. Have a good one all.

I skip the half time show too. I’m so old that I’ve rarely heard of the headline act and rap jangles my nerves.

What ever you do, don’t dip your ribs in the chocolate pudding, just don’t.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. There are white beans in the crock and greens on the stove. Cornbread will be made later.

I just heard from Penny’s dad and he should be picking her up around 2. It’s been fun with an almost-puppy for the weekend, but I’ll be glad when it’s back to just Nelson and me.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I prefer that to the human game, although I do hope the Chiefs win.

I thought they were extinct in the wild, too.

Eyeballing the snow on the porch railings, I came up with around five inches. Checked a couple of websites for last night’s snowfall; they agreed that we got 4.5 inches. Not planning on going anywhere today, so we’ll see what the streets are like tomorrow.

Wish I’d had a camera handy this morning – our largest and smallest cats were nose-to-nose. I think Lily is around seven pounds; Susu is close to fifteen. No, he’s not fat – his brother and sister are both around fourteen pounds.

I am meeting a friend for a walk at 1, then going to the barn. I should be home by 6 so I will turn on the Superb Owl for a few minutes. I don’t understand football and have watched 2 full games in my life. Both were Fighting Illini games. Made slow cooker short ribs yesterday so will have leftovers tonight.

I’m rooting for Philadelphia.

My BIL with Parkinson’s is getting worse. The dementia is increasing. I talked to my sister about respite care. She is 75 and how much longer can she be the sole caregiver??? I found a place the next town over that provides respite care and told her he could go there a few days a week AND spend the nights there. I hope she looks into it. I hate to say this, but I won’t visit her until he is no longer around, either at a home or his final resting place. This disease has robbed both of them of their lives and I can’t witness that.

It’s currently 38°F and mostly cloudy, but it’s dry and should gradually become “mostly sunny” with a forecasted high of 46. Not bad at all for early February in the DC area! Today and tomorrow are brief respites, though, with snow and/or rain in the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday (and high temps in the low 30s). Tuesday’s snow could actually accumulate. I have appointments on Wednesday and Thursday, and will be driving to MD for the jazz festival on Friday, so I’ll be low-key-anxious about this week’s weather until it gets here.

I have tentative lunch plans with my BFFs today (:crossed_fingers:): if I don’t hear from WifeBFF by 11am, I’ll text her and see how she’s feeling. If they’re up for talking about it I want to hear about Duke’s last day, I need to return their Christmas cookies tin, and I have some small Lego sets for inclusion in the next care package they send their son (my “nephew,” who’s been living in TX with his girlfriend). Also, I’m in cahoots with my nephew regarding a hideous clown ornament they’ve been taking turns hiding from each other: my BFFs thought they got rid of it when they sent it to him with his Christmas presents, but he mailed it to me and I’ll be hiding it when I get to their place.

I’ve never been a football person, so I’m not interested enough in the Super Bowl to deliberately watch it. Any really good ads will be available on YouTube later, and I’ll learn about the results on Facebook. I went to college near Philly, so I might feel some residual “yay” if the Iggles win. I definitely get being excited about the game, though – it’s how I feel about the World Series – and if I were at a friend’s house or a bar or something while it was on I’d happily watch it for a while (and I’d root for Philly  ).

Speaking of the World Series, it’s almost baseball season again: Yankees pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Tuesday! :baseball:

Indeed…those are beautiful!

No need to be a modest bear: we know you’re amazin’!

The cute!!!

With the pub crawls, once attendance hit a critical mass it was mostly about asking whether there’d be more than one bartender scheduled (winter Saturday afternoons are hardly peak periods, and 40-50 people would be there but only for 1-2 hours). Also, some bars in NYC have – or at least had – an understandable “no crawls” policy. So if my uncle discovered during his planning that a place would only have one person working and/or didn’t allow crawls, he’d find a replacement bar for that part.

(One of the reasons he stopped organizing them was because of the significant research and planning involved: he would spend months putting a crawl together! 10 seemed like a good number to “retire” on.)

It really does! I didn’t get to all of the crawls – I missed a few of the earliest ones, when I was fresh out of college and super broke – but 20+ years later I still have great memories of several of those days/places. And there might be one crawl I went to but don’t really remember.

Smokey The Cat developed hyperthyroidism when she was around 16: I went the radioactive iodine therapy route, and that one treatment was all it took. It wasn’t cheap, but the alternative was medication for the rest of her life and there was no way I was going to try to pill that cat twice a day. It was also ~23 years ago: I have no idea what costs are like now, but if this is, in fact, what Goo has I recommend looking into it. It really could be a one-and-done solution.

(When I picked her up, I was given special litter to use for a few days because there was a chance her waste might still be slightly radioactive. I asked, “So, if she bites me will I turn into Catwoman?” No one laughed. *sigh*)

Niiiiiice.

About a year ago I briefly had BritBox and Acorn subscriptions, and I watched that show: I liked it!

Well, rats. Tobias still has fever and he’s apparently shared it with his dad. So SIL and Daughter may not be going to the basketball game tomorrow, so I may not be babysitting after all. And I’ve got a snuffly cough - thinking a bowl of chickie noodle is just the thing about now.

Dammit.

And my grand Harriet had a 104 fever at 4am but is doing well on ibuprofen. I’m going to go over early to grandma nurse Harriet while her mom and dad take 3 yo Sorenson out of the house to run off some of his ya-yas. Then we’ll settle in around the fireplace for the puppy bowl and the Superb Owl. I was around her for 6 hours yesterday, it’s not like I wasn’t exposed.

Oh I had waterbeds as a kid and loved them! I also remember waking up freezing because the heating element went out or soaking wet because it sprung a leak  I also did not know you could still get them!

Bolding mine - Wait, you had a cat that needed to be spayed twice??

And I hope you’re putting in for any overtime pay that you work! Wasn’t their justification for the change something about salary levels? Maybe you need to see what your type of work pays now and bring to them justification that your pay needs to be adjusted to reflect current market rates. 18 years is a long time to be at one place, and annual salary adjustments often don’t keep pace with actual market conditions.

wet one I’m sorry, that sounds tough on everyone involved. I hope she can get some help and a break.

FCM and BBoo, hope you both escape the germies going round.

I need to run to the grocery store but I keep putting it off this morning. I’ll go to a store nearby that is never truly busy and always has everything in stock. I’m not sure why they’re never busy - their prices are higher on some things and lower on others so it usually just about washes out.

I’ll probably turn the Super Bowl on to play in the background. I’m not particularly interested but it’ll be nice to have something different than the usual shows going on.
