Sounds like a task for Stirling or Turtledove… .
Goo has a piece of pink tape around her leg, where they’d taken the blood draw. She won’t let us take it off.
I’m watching Glass Cannon Network playing Call of Cthulhu, and occasionally doom-scrolling.
I probably should just drop Facebook, but it’s useful for getting information for the MTTA and my high school class.
Heh. I enjoy going to my reunions. I always seem to be remembered fondly by my classmates. If I can follow through with my plans, I wonder how the next reunion will go.
It’s one of those situations where (if I could see it from the outside) it would be amusing.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/47f with a predicted high of 13c/55f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Fucking suck it, clouds. Fucking suck it.”
I’m sorry for the woes in your life, but there is much to be happy about (especially poodles and hats!)
Happy birthday for yesterday (did manage a birthday greeting on FB on the right day), I am sure you spent it doing lots of fun stuff on your trip!
flyboy sending good vibes for Goo at the vet.
I’m glad she wasn’t hurt, but it is a shaky experience so I am sure she appreciated a delivery of important items!
I hope all goes well, I am sure you will sail through the experience now that you know there’s nothing to worry about.
In my experience, it varies from cat to cat. Shadow would insist on rolling around in catnip then eventually falling asleep in it. Ophelia would get very mellow and lay on the floor looking like a proper space cadet. The girlies get zoomies and fire round the house until they exhaust themselves.
Hippie I’m so happy that you and BBBoo get to meet up, always gives me a smile to think of you two in a bagel shop discussing the goings-on with the mumper crowd.
Yesterday was a busy one for me, I had irk all day but managed to get out to the supermarket at lunchtime, then went to the dental hygienist after irk, then home to feed the cats, then off to the gym for Cycle Revolution. I had to gather up rubbish, empty the bins and the haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. Then we had leftover mac and cheese for dinner, and watched the final two episodes of “You” before I headed off to bed.
Today I have a launch event for a neurodiversity training session for line managers so that should be interesting. Got a minion meeting this afternoon and in between, I have a monster spreadsheet to work on. When I finish irk this afternoon, I have to prepare campus food for the rest of the week. I also did an adult thing and transferred money into my ISA since we’re in a new tax year and I can do that. Dinner tonight will be chicken curry leftovers from the freezer because I do not feel the need to cook. Now I am going to make more tea before my event thing starts, and I will go and haul the biiiig bin back to where it lives during the week.
Good morning, all!
Yesterday was crazy busy. I did get a few things done including moving some of my mom’s files and stuff to the storage unit. And I think I figured out a way to move around her furniture so that there is more room and less heavy things we have to carry to storage.
running coach, it is just me and my glp-1 losing weight here. I have basically two bad knees and one bad ankle so exercise hasn’t been a priority.
Happy belated birthday, Metal Mouse!
Today will be more work with a side of packing up more things from my mom’s room. Then I’ll go see her tonight after work. I haven’t been able to make it for a couple of days. I did send groceries via delivery to her yesterday. Ok, I’m going to disappoint the poodle soon by getting up and getting started working.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I plan on being down in the dumps(I got to take some dead electronics to the recycling center). It’s currently 39 degrees Ferret Height(3.889 Centipedes), so trips will happen later.
Good.
Spot says no to drugs.
Quick note to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. Just finished lunch with a group of old friends in Mallorca and will be walking around some more before going back to the ship. Wish I could have more time to write but need to go. Take good care all.
Not I. After attending 2 (the second being a combined reunion of 4 or 5 classes) I decided that was enough. I didn’t have a whole lot of friends (yes, I was shy) and while I’m still sorta connected with 3 on FB, I haven’t seen any of them in years. It just wasn’t that stellar a time of my life so I don’t miss it..
Looks like we juuuuuuuuust missed hitting the freeze temp - woke to 33 Ferrets. But I did remember to covers my plants yesterday, so I’m not too worried. It’s moving to low 60s today - I’ll uncover everything before we head to the boat. We’ll be doing some plumbing today - our water system is almost done. I need to remember to check what kind of lights are installed so I can order LED replacements.
Dreamland held a blast from the past - I was driving a vehicle we haven’t owned for at least 35 years. Once again, my brain dusts off odd little corners as I sleep.
Otherwise, just another day in paradise. I should call my neurologist’s office and schedule an appt in June. Note to self…
Happy Tuesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until seven a.m.
‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and sunny with a predicted high of 82 and sunny. I plan to accomplish mowage today but will wait a couple of hours for it to warm up a bit. Sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. Well, OYKW will have sallit since I can’t do green veggies. I also have to take a dose of Miralax at six p.m. ICK!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward to mowage and into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Spot is watching me butcher a kiwi.
The robot half-a-thon runner has been talked about on another thread, but I’m going to mump about it here. My first thoughts were amazement that the bot could run on two legs that fast. Then I read that the machine had fallen and crashed into something but was helped up by passersby. My old brain retrieved a memory of a years-ago human runner who fell, and was disqualified for getting help from another person.
So, do we give this bot credit for beating the fastest human, or not? If you had been there, would you have helped the machine get back up? On the second question, I would not have helped to pick up the fallen machine.
Cookie, we had a yowling machine like that in our neighborhood the other day. It spoiled my plans for a walk. Mrs. Nott walked anyway, and she brought back a pic of a guy on a lawn-tractor thing with a yard-wide squirrel-cage blower on the front. He, and a crew of guys with back-pack leaf blowers, were corralling the leaves that had fallen over the winter. They all had proper industrial-grade hear-muffs on.
Happy birthday!
I have a necklace of black and white pearls from a visit to Mallorca long ago. Lovely island.
I went to a couple of high school reunions long ago, but I’m nowhere nearby and they often line up with something I’ve already committed to. My college has 5-year reunions for all multiples of that year, so this year, for example, classes of 2021, 2016, 2011… will meet. I sometimes used to go as a guest to the years on either side of mine, but now just go to mine. We’re pretty enthusiastic and pleasant as a group. The men who used to harrass me when we were students have mostly gotten sober and apologized.
Goo’s fine. She was begging for SPAM® this morning (and teaching Findus to beg), but Catmom/SWMBO told me yesterday, ‘No more human food.’
Catmom got the tape off last night.
Years ago I read John Steinbeck’s collection of short stories, The Pastures of Heaven. The stories are all set in a rural community with the titular name. The first story was about the setting: Spanish soldiers near Monterey were pursuing some native Americans who were fleeing slavery at a mission, and came upon a beautiful valley in the hills. The flat valley was so beautiful they called it “Las Pasturas del Cielo”. I thought this was a fiction that Steinbeck made up.
Yesterday, we took a drive into some hills near Monterey and came upon a beautiful valley. It was so lovely I said it made me think of Steinbeck’s story. Then when we came home I Googled it up and this valley was indeed the same one he was writing about. It has a different name in reality, but it’s the same. Google says Steinbeck had an aunt who lived in the valley and that he sometimes stayed with her when he was a boy.
We’ll go back again and take a slow drive through.
Good morning.
It’s 50F and cloudy outside. We’ll have morning clouds, with showers developing by afternoon, and a daytime high of 57F.
Flyboy, I’m glad Goo is doing fine today.
I’ve never gone to a single high school reunion. I’m not friends with anyone from high school anymore, and I really have no desire to see the people I knew there.
Hippie and Boo, I’m so glad you two got to meet up again.
Nellie, I’m sorry about your sister’s collision, and I’m glad she’s okay.
Mollie, hope all goes well with the cataract surgery. I’m having both of mine done at the same time.
My poor Maisie wasn’t feeling well yesterday and threw up. I should have grokked that something was wrong because she kept herself glued to me and was trying to crawl up between me and the arm of the loveseat (which I was propped on). She seems better today, but it is concerning that she’s had tummy issues a couple of times in the past couple of weeks. I don’t feed her a bunch of junk, and don’t use any kind of weedkiller in the backyard. I think I’ll discuss with the vet at the next visit if this keeps up.
Doggio, I’m glad the Roomie seems to be recovering so well.
Lily, I hope the surgery and recovery go well. I do not like Jello AT ALL, so I don’t know what I would do if I had to do something like that. I like lemon, but not artificial-tasting lemon.
I got the lawn mowed, weedwhacked, and edged yesterday, gave the bird baths a really good scrub and filled them with water, and yanked a couple of weeds here and there. I then walked around with my hands on my hips, thinking about plant placement and trying to remember what I had planted last year. I think I’ll be taking a nursery trip either Friday or Saturday morning. I am behind, but I need to get crack-a-lackin’.
Once my son is moved into his new house, I’ll probably buy him a planter and some pots, along with dirt, plants, and flowers. I need to actually be at his house to figure out where and how the sun hits, so I can purchase the plants/flowers appropriate for the conditions. We discussed it when he was up here over the weekend, so I’m not just taking over his landscaping; I’m just trying to make things a little pleasant for him. He’ll be busy trying to make the inside of his house a home, and it’s not like I’m going to go crazy. Just a few spots of color.
I have no plans for today; just the normal tidying. I will need to wash the guest bedding, too.
You all take care of yourselves.
Good morning! I got up briefly at four this morning to take my meds, so I didn’t swallow anything in the eight hours before go time.
After an additional two and a half hours nappage, Chloé and I took a short walk - only about two miles.
While feeding the rabbit, I discovered we were out of leafy greens for him, so off the Publix I went to get kale. I feel bad for him. He’s an old man who gets incontinent in his sleep, so he can’t have the run of the house anymore. He spends most of his time in his hutch now. He has also stopped eating his hay. I don’t think he has much longer.
We’re off to the eye surgeon on about forty-five minutes.
FCM - My high school experience wasn’t awful. I remember spending most of my time wondering what was wrong with me (spoilers!). Every time I go to a reunion, I am pleasantly surprised at how many people tell me they have fond memories of me.
My last class reunion kind of soured me on them. We have another this year at the same place as last time. After the last one, I made a suggestion to the planning committee to choose a place that was more handicapped accessible (the food service required going up a long flight of stairs, no alternative and we are now all in our sixties, with some who have had mobility issues for a few years already) Besides that, some of the people there were thinking that they were back in high school and behaved that way to some of us who weren’t among the hip crowd back then.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have more phone calls today (gawd, I hate talking on the phone most of the time), but other than that, RDOS.
It’s raining again today, so Nelson is napping. When we get a lot of rain, he tends to get clingy and want a lot of lap time. That’s OK with me. ![]()
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Every time I go to a reunion, I am pleasantly surprised at how many people tell me they have fond memories of me.
I’m usually surprised that so few people remember me.
Though the drama students and the ROTC drill team were the only groups I associated with, and there were very few people (out of 870+) I actually considered to be friends. I’ve been to only three reunions – the 10-year (I happened to be passing within fifty miles, on my way from California to Connecticut) and the 50-year (roughly 1000-mile drive each way) of one school and the 50-year of the other school (which was the weekend before, and added about 200 miles to the trip out). Had a great time at both, though the three people I most wanted to see weren’t there.
Finally warming back up in MSP; it’s 61F at 1020.
Doing a second load of laundry. We waited too long to take care of business, so this is the price one pays.
The wife’s shoulder pain isn’t abating. In fact, it’s in both shoulders now and I’m worried about it. I keep nagging her about getting a doctor appointment to check things out, but she is about as stubborn as the proverbial mule. She hates MRIs and is likely correct in her opinion that they will want her to get one. But - you know - SCIENCE! I’ve told her I’m worried and losing sleep over this, but. . .
And it’s not like you can get an appointment right away, which may mean referral to the ER, which is like a day in hell.
good luck, mollie!
it is a chilly day in philly. it looked like feb. on the shuttle this morning.
the only class reunion i went to was the first one (5 year). they have them in the suburbs and i don’t drive. i do remember my father going to a high school reunion when i was a kid. i was amazed he was that old. then again he was in his 40’s when i was born.
i’m glad goo is feeling better.
