Daily check-in with the MMP. Eating lunch on the boy after a short excursion in Menorca. Pretty island with lots of walking trails (note for you rose). Chose not to walk back to the boat via the town but took the bus back as I’m wearing down now after 2 weeks on the road. Weather has been perfect, mid-70’sF and not a threat of rain. Now if it will hold for another week…
I have been reading all but retaining little but yeas, cheers, laughter, and many hugs to all of you.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Still off. I’m taking Carmen for her state inspection today, then going down to the local bitters shop. It’s currently 51 degrees Ferret Height(10.556 Centipedes).
It’s a start. At least she’s not into gnawing on drywall, like half my dogs were.

Also it would be more effective to work somewhere there is a screen.
Cool. Apart from the temporarily disappointed poodle.
I got an info sheet for all procedures requiring a clear liquid diet rather than just the stuff I could have, so I read a lot of info online. Clear soda and juice for colonoscopy since otherwise the staining can be mistaken for blood, FWIW.
I assume you mean boat rather than boy. I hate to think of you using a young male child as a table or chair… All your talk of walking to see sights got me looking at excursions for our next trip. I chose mostly sightseeing via bus in the Easy category since walking is such a trial for FCD. We’ll stop at 6 ports and I’ve booked outings at 4 of them. Plus one place looks to be easily walkable from the ship. So if we don’t venture out at the 6th place, I’m not too concerned - we’ve done days in the past where we just stay onboard and chill.
Is there anything worse than repeatedly biting the inside of your lip? OK, yeah, lots of things are worse, but, DANG, it’s still painful and annoying. I’ve been dealing with this for 3 days. All it takes is one little bite to get a bit of swelling, and eventually, it seems you’re always catching the same spot between your teeth. And it’s not a spot where you can protect it with a bandage. I suppose the only thing to do is not eat for a day or two. Or be hyper aware when eating (or even chewing gum.) It hurts, dammit!!
Then last night, my shins on both legs got to itching like crazy! I tried slathering on vaseline, thinking it was dry skin, but to no avail. So right about midnight, I got up and showered, then used rather generous glops of moisturizer, and the itch finally calmed enough that I was able to sleep. No clue what brought it on - I didn’t see any evidence of bug bites or rash or other irritants. But it led to less than 5 hours of sleep, so today should be fun…
We’re promised mid-70s today and a 50-50 chance of rain. My order of kibbles from Chewy is due this afternoon - here’s hoping FedEx puts the box under cover on the porch. I’ve also got a few boat things coming from Da Jungle, but their delivery guys are usually pretty good about leaving packages right by the door, well out of the way of rain. But with luck, maybe we’ll be back from the boat before any precip hits.
For now it’s 50 Ferrets and caffeination continues. Happy Wednesday!!
Yesterday was ordinary enough, except for having to drive through a nasty thunderstorm at one point. WHY do the doofi in this area REFUSE to turn on lights in poor visibility?
Buddy is very committed lately to carving his share of the bed out of the middle of my side, which can make for crowding and poor sleep even in a queen-size. At least Kasya’s polite enough to stay down by my feet so there’s actually room for me in the bed.
I do have a slightly miffed kitten this morning, though. She was in my lap, grooming her tail, when I let out a huge sneeze and startled her into a fast departure. (Yeah, I’m coming down with something, dammit.) Fortunately, she doesn’t have that much of an attention span unless it’s for doing things I’d rather she didn’t, so I’ll be forgiven soon, I’m sure.
You didn’t know anyone from the class before yours? I knew a lot of people from the class before mine ('71). And the class behind ('73), and several from both classes ('70 and '74) two years out.
Or a spot that you can’t figure out why it was between your teeth in the first place.
That happens with two or three cats every time I sneeze, or cough loudly, At least none of them dive under the couch whenever there’s thunder, the way Alice did.
43 Ferrets out there, out of a predicted 48. We survived the freeze last night (as, I hope, did the tulips that were blooming). 38-42 Ferrets for the next six nights; 64 tomorrow, but then 54-59 the rest of the week. Bleah.
Super WalMart and BJ’s today, I think, and then the commissary and Big Y tomorrow. Wish the commissary or Super WalMart would start carrying the things we want, so we could only have to visit one or two stores each payday.
Time for coffee. I shall, as the man said, return.
It’s 49F and raining. The rain will continue until about noon, then we’ll have cloudy skies, with a daytime high of 55F. It’s been raining all night, at times so hard that it woke me up several times.
JtC, regarding Maisie: I already have both pups on the expensive vet-prescribed food called Skintopic. It’s for their skin allergies. They’ve both been on it for over a year.
Chef, I hope that the wife’s appointment goes well.
Lily, I hope the nausea abates soon and that the rest of your recovery is smooth.
Mollie, I hope the other eye has synced with your brain and that you’re feeling fine today.
Sticky, such good news about your Mom!
There isn’t much on today’s agenda, though we did plan to go out to lunch in Grit City, also known as Tacoma. We’re going here: Katsu Burger
I think other than that, I’ll wash the bedding and towels. I washed all the rest of the laundry yesterday.
Well, I suppose I should finish my coffee and get started. Due to the restless night, I didn’t roll out of bed until 6:15 this morning, which is very late for me. You all take care.
I get that a lot of times when I remove my compression stockings for the night. Lidocaine cream works wonders in calming the itch down enough to sleep.
I feel your pain. It’s amazing how much of a queen sized bed that one 18 pound dog takes up.
You just won the internet.
I hope that your wife’s appointment gets her some relief, cookie.
I hope that Maisie’s feeling better, taters.
Glad that Goo’s diagnosis is something easily treatable, flyboy.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP.
My day began with a text from the MRI place saying that my insurance had not yet approved the procedure, so I was on the phone with them for a bit, then the podiatry office. The new dosage of of the gout med didn’t get approved either, so more phone calls. I’ll never have another HMO after this year. Those bastiges are practicing medicine by accountants.
I need to call the dealership to check on the car. Other than that, it’s RDOS today.
Hurray! I hope her problem is easily treatable and that she starts feeling better tonight. Then both of you can sleep
My second eye didn’t require nearly as much joy juice either, its a breeze once you know whats going to happen. Now comes the fun part, you get to shop for cute reading glasses
I like ZZ Top, and they put on a good show. I wonder if they will be playing closer during that tour, it would be worth the drive to see them again.
And that’s without drugs, LOL!
Ugh. No kicking metal, your foot isn’t that hard. Ask me how I know!
Ya need to be careful, someone’s going to take your RDOS card away if you keep that up.
Its good that you are getting your car fixed, here’s hoping you won’t need to do anything more for a while. We schedule my car’s oil changes by the calendar instead of mileage now. It doesn’t get driven that often anymore, but old oil turns into sludge even if it is clean.
What a smart dog! GOOD GIRL!!!
NO ROCKS!!!
Oh, that’s not horrible. Hyper-t is easy to treat, our big boy took pills like a champ but they also have transdermal salve that can be rubbed into the skin. Keeping weight on Hyper-t cats isn’t easy, treats will be important in her life from now on.
I think I’d rather be in pain than nauseated, an am sorry you are feeling both. I hope you can have a good sleep and fell better in the morning.
Bring snacks!
That must make it so much easier on everyone. Will she have a home-health nurse checking up on her when she’s finally home? I know you will be there, but you aren’t medically trained.
Nobody in the classes behind mine would have been invited to my reunion, two years is a big age difference when you are in high school. I knew the kids my age but lowerclassmen and upperclassmen didn’t mix and I found weed around that time so I stopped caring if anyone liked me anyhow. As long as I kept my grades up my folks didn’t care what I did so I’d ditch classes but turn in all of my homework and ace all of my tests so my teachers didn’t want to bother with me either.
I saw some really good concerts back then though. I have very fond memories of the California Jam (I think I got grounded for that one, I wasn’t smart enough to change out of my Pink Floyd jersey before going home.)
Then she’s going to need some really expensive and stinky supplements. I’ve had pets all of my life, I’m wise to their ways now!
I do hope it is something simple, nobody wants their pets to be poorly.
So my day has started dark and dreary. There is rain falling and the sky is grey. I think I’ll wash all of the throws and rugs, I haven’t done that for a few months. Jolene won’t be best pleased, I’ll be taking her fuzzy blanket off the loveseat, but she will also be very pleased when it comes back warm and clean.
Hey, anyone have a referral for a domestic violence counselor in or near Seattle? A friend’s daughter needs someone and is having trouble accessing services because no kids are in the picture. Please message me. Thanks.
Good Morning, MMPers! After sleeping most of yesterday, and soundly sleeping last night, I’m up and at 'em today. I had my follow up with the ophthalmologist this morning, and so far I’ve got 20/20 in both eyes. I did mistake a K for an X on the chart, so she gave that to me. I have another follow up next month. We swung by the BJ’s to get me some readers. I picked some that were as gender neutral as I could find. My face is still quite masculine… maybe after I’ve started E, and it’s had time to work its magic…
The HVAC guys are here replacing the HVAC on the main floor. It was drawing a lot of current during its tune up last month. We’ve gotten the single step up from the builders’ option[1], which should be more than enough savings for another five years.
I’d gotten a new, slim wallet the other day, and have moved my license, insurance card, and my most often used cards to it. It was listed as a “Front Pocket Wallet for Women.” It’s one of those stupid little things that are gender affirming. It is also a lot more comfortable to sit on than my thick assed bi-fold wallet.
How cruel of you to not let her chew on random things from outside. I bet you won’t let her eat dried worms, either.
Lily - I’m glad you’re doing all right. I had asked them to tune down the giggle juice a bit, and was immediately regretting that as they pressed the thing in my eye for the laser. That was… unpleasant, so I lied back and thought of England.
Doggio - When I DM, I have my obsidian D20[2] that I break out for combat. I’m still looking for a set of Obsidian percentile dice for Call of Cthulhu.
Oh woe is me. I have to have another treat. I don’t know how much longer I can do this.
Lily - Unfortunately, I have nothing to offer but prayers and sympathy for your friend’s daughter.
We’re not planning on living here after Squeaky graduates college. This is a lot of house for two people. ↩︎
I’ve checked it. It’s fair - I’m not a cheater. ↩︎
We had an HMO waaaaaay back when they were new and exciting. Finding a doctor accepting new patients was a challenge. Then getting an appointment was a challenge. Then the whole “Why do you think we at the HMO will pay for your silly health?” I dumped them the next Open Season and never looked back. I BC/BS.
It’s pretty surprising how much and how quickly you can learn some basic health aide skills. We were fortunate that the nurses and aides who tended to MIL made sure to instruct us as well as answer all our questions. Things like helping the patient down to a seat/bed, or out of a seat/bed, as well as helping them up off the floor if they fall. Or recognizing when you need to call in a professional for help. I never considered myself to be an expert, but I learned to be confident about dealing with non-emergency occurrences that required attention.
FCD didn’t need my help at the boat and I had things to do at home, so I’ve been doing those things. I made a chicken salad, boiled some eggs, and cut up some celery for snackage. Then tidied the kitchen and went to Food Lion for a few things (less than $25 all told!!) Otis and I have both had our lunch, and the sky suggests rain is imminent. So much for yard work.
I need to make a couple of bags for storing some boat canvas - it won’t take long, so I guess I’ll have a go at that. Plus I brought home some linens that have been in drawers on the boat for ages - I can launder while I sew. Supper will be DIY salad - I’ll put the assorted bits out and we’ll each assemble what we want. Easy-peasy.
So guess I should pull out the sewing machine, gather the fabric, and load the sheets in the washer. Off I go.
Early morning doctor appointment for the wife went well. The doc doesn’t think this is any sort of arterial or nerve problem, but just a matter of. . .well. . .sloth. She hasn’t done any sort of regular exercise in the last year and it’s caught up with her. Doc recommended starting with regular physical therapy to get things moving again, and if there is no improvement then possibly an MRI might be next. Anyway, a relief.
Oh that looks good. And there’s one close to my parents. I’ll have to ask them if they’ve tried it.
Huh. I guess my friend could say that he used to be gay, and now he’s not. His preference didn’t change, he did.
Last night I dropped a perfume sample in the sink, so I got perfume everywhere. Seems I also got it on the clothes I change into when I get home, which I didn’t realize until I had already changed, and I’m too lazy to change again.
This morning I had my last session with my personal trainer, who’s going traveling for the next 7 months, and therefore left the gym where she had been working. When she comes back she’s hoping to resume doing personal training, but it won’t be at the gym. And my gym membership runs out in June, so I’m taking the summer off, and will start looking for a gym in September. I feel better when I exercise regularly, so I need to do something. And I do better with a gym buddy or personal trainer.
