Daughter and SIL are on their way home. CT was normal and apparently the IV meds helped. I’ve never had a migraine so I don’t know what he goes thru, but it was obvious that it was bad. Poor guy…
Anyway, I can go home shortly.

Anyway, I can go home shortly.
Whoa! That is bad.
I see there is an update. I’m glad things sorted out and sil is home. Poor dude.
I had an appointment with the ENT today. He thinks the issue is my lungs, not my sinuses. I hope he’s wrong. I have to get a sinus and chest CT. In good news, my contacts lenses came in, so I picked them up. Did 5.4 miles today.
I went to Bible camp as a kid. We were catholic, and the camp was Protestant, but I loved it. The food was great and plentiful, and there were lots of fun activities and nice girls. It lasted 2 weeks, and I went 2 summers. My older siblings went to Scout camps.
My son went to “gifted” camp. (I loathe that term.) His teacher told us he really, really needed to be with other smart kids, so we sent him, and it did help him. My daughter could have gone in turn, but she didn’t really need it. I wanted her to join the Girl Scouts, but her dad refused, said it was “too militaristic.”
Happy Borthday, dear cookie!
That’s been my experience, though in Wyoming, kids who went to a grade school near Yellowstone (but in my district) had many happy memories of the occasional bear wandering onto the playground at recess. They had bear drills to prepare for such an eventuality.
That is so sweet! Definitely a keeper.
MetalMouse, when are you supposed to get the results?
Yikes! Glad he’s OK!
At the nursery we picked out a container of 3 cherry tomato plants, a container of 3 early girl tomato plants and a container of 1 large celebrity tomato supposed to be mature in 72 days. Then Hubs asked if we could get some squash plants. Self: NO. Why do you want them? Hubs: We eat squash. Self: I’d rather buy it this year. So then we went to the flower area and I picked out 5 or 6 containers of marigolds which I love. Hubs wanted some petunias to put in some planters that used to belong to his mother. So, I picked out a container of pink petunias and one of white petunias. Then I asked Hubs if there was anything else he wanted and he replied that I already said he couldn’t have them. He loves a large vegetable garden but since he is forbidden from doing any gardening this year, it has to be smallish so I was only willing to compromise on tomatoes. Some of the marigolds will be planted at the cemetary and the rest along the walk to the back door so I can enjoy them. We also have callalily bulbs which I will have to plant.
nellie I was in GS starting in brownies, juniors and cadettes and never felt that they were at all militaristic. I was also a GS leader for brownies and juniors and our way of leading was to let the girls make decisions on what they wanted to do, what badges they wanted to earn. Consequently our troop did a lot of horse riding and in 5th grade, we took them on a camping/horse riding trip to the Kentucky Horse Park for 3 days. Just where the heck did the ex get the idea that GS were militaristic? Certainly he was never in Girl Scouting.
FCM Very glad that SIL’s CT was normal and that he was able to come home. That had to have been very scary, particularly for {Roxy and Tobias}.
This reminds me of our 8th grade (or was it 9th?) trip to DC. Since we got to town early, they basically said be back for dinner by X hour and set us free. We went all over town and checked out the subway on our own. That would NEVER happen today. It was awesome, though.
FCM, glad things are better.
Today was lousy. More on that later. MusicMan’s gallbladder is ok, though, so that’s good.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Yay!
Happy Borthday, cookie !
I went to boy scout camp every summer from 12 to 15, as well as church camp where we went water skiing and no preaching.
We had our kids do a few “camps” over the years, but now mostly it’s sailing races.
SenGirl’s class is doing a 100 km (60 mile) hike this week. She just left today. SenBoy is happy to an only child for a week.
Awake to blow nose. Hey all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and cloudy. Weather app has little to say about that, apart from the fact that it’s “Cloudy as fucking shit”. I have to agree, it is cloudy out there and I woke up to the sound of rain which is always nice when I don’t have to go to campus.
I saw the update later, I’m glad he was ok in the end but that must have been scary for all of you and absolutely awful for him.
I have done the opposite today, it’s our recycling collection so I have put the last bits and pieces in the bin and hauled it to the kerb. The idiot neighbours remembered to put their bin out today too so we’ll see what the binmen reject when they have a good rummage!
I am sorry to hear that, I hope they don’t find anything too serious
Good news for MusicMan, and I hope your today turns out be better.
I had a relatively uneventful visit to the dental hygienist yesterday, she scraped and polished before pronouncing herself happy with the results and sent me off for six months. I have the normal dentist in June for a check up but that should also be uneventful. I got out and back home in time to collect 'im indoors from the train, and made us a yummy chicken curry for dinner.
Today I have a minion meeting, and a union meeting to talk about further strike action. After irk, I have to prep lunches for the next couple of days and then we need to do the grocery shopping. He’s cooking dinner tonight, he got some chicken out of the freezer to thaw so it’ll be a surprise for later!
Do you have to wear yellow and big round glasses?
Yesterday was not great as mentioned, I aim to get back on track today. Preparation for my dad’s memorial is mentally difficult. But it must proceed.
Ok, off to get some (paying) work done. I didn’t do much yesterday.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 68 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 76 and rainy through late afternoon. Fine by me as we have no where we need or want to be. Today is laundry day and bug guy will be here around eleven. I can hardly contain myself! Sup shall be country fried steak, rice 'n gravy, green beans, baked zucchini and yelow squishes, and cornbread.
MOOOOOOM glad SIL is better. I’ve never had migraines but I understand them to be so painful.
Nellie hope they figure out the issue soonest.
Cat_Glove good for you for standin’ firm on the veggie garden this year.
Sticky_Buns glad MusicMan’s gallbladder is OK.
BooFae we eagerly await the tale of idiot neighbor’s recycle bin.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
It’s ungodly early dark o’clock and I’m getting ready to go be an election judge from 7am to 9pm. I enjoy it and I get to do it in my home precinct, where I’ve lived and voted for 40 years.
It’s be a sloooooow day because it’s a primary with many uncontested races and no controversial ballot issues so y’all probably hear a lot from me. It’s been a week from hell for me so y’all probably wish I didn’t have do much time on my hands. You can always vote me off the island.
I got up at 5:30am~I felt like waving “good morning” at pilot, swampy and fairy chat mom. No coffee on the balcony overlooking the beach, though. Just trying to drink my coffee while the cat laid on my arm demanding tribute, so I guess like doggio too.
Must go and put on being about the public reassuringly normal looking clothes (I even have a blazer) and leave to make the great windswept prairies safe for democracy (that’s a small ‘d’ democracy~I live in a stubbornly red state).
No cake, but in keeping with the homemade Mexican food, we had flan for desert.
The only thing they commented on was daddy crying - they weren’t sure how to deal with that. I took them out to play on the swings while Daughter dealt with SIL. He was subdued but ambulatory when they got home and after a hug, he wandered back to bed.
When I first met him, I thought he was a bit of a hypochondriac, but after seeing this - it was definitely not an act. Poor giuy.
OMG!! I can’t even imagine! Even in the days before DC got so gun-crazy, it was not a place for kids to wander free, maybe apart from the Mall. I grew up in Baltimore, so DC was a semi-frequent day trip for the family, and even in the 60s, I wouldn’t have wanted to be feral there.
Yeah, right. You’re stuck here with the rest of us, so deal!
This reminded me - when we lived in FL, there was a “chinese” buffet that had both flan and tapioca on their dessert bar. FCD used to mix the two together and called it flapioca.
I slept till 7!! That never happens, but after 2 bad nights and dealing with putting the littles to bed (they weren’t bad, really) I was exhausted, so I crashed hard. Since getting up, I’ve loaded and started the dishwasher (FCD rinsed and stacked the supper dishes) and I put the dining room table back together. Roxy helped me take the leaf out last night, but I needed to put the pad, tablecloth, and placemats back in place. That’s done.
My sweetie has to leave around 9 to fetch TX SIL at BWI. If all goes well, they’ll be back around noon-thirty. I’ve decided supper will be turkey in gravy over noodles, with a side of peas-n-carrots. I need to clean the bathrooms (today is MIL’s shower day, but we don’t know when the aide will arrive.) I also need to check the basement - the kids were down there yesterday and who knows what disorder reigns. It needs to be somewhat tidy for SIL. I also need to take another blanket down there, just in case. The basement is cooler than the rest of the house.
Rain is due later this morning, lasting on and off till maybe Thurs morning, then coming back for the weekend. It promises to be a crazy day. At least I’m awake.
Happy Tuesday!
Mornin’ all.
It’s 51 degrees Fahrenheit and partly cloudy outside. The sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the day and the expected high temperature is 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
FCM, I’m glad the CT scan showed nothing. Migraines are awful.
Cat-Glove, good for you for remaining steadfast in the face of pressure!
StickyBuns, I’m glad MusicMan’s gallbladder is okay.
Nellie, I hope they don’t find anything serious with the lungs.
I love the stories about everyone’s camp and summer experiences. I was a free-roamer, too; the woods and fields were my favorite places. I also participated in the YMCA High School Conference every year from 9th through 12th grade, where kids from the Western states, including Hawaii, would gather at a camp in the San Bernadino mountains. We always had a blast, and every year was a different theme. I sold candy bars to help pay for my way there. But, before we got to the camp, we’d spend a day and a half in San Francisco, just wandering around. They’d turn us loose on the city, and we wandered all over. That wouldn’t happen nowadays. The 70s and very early eighties were a different time.
It was not a good night to sleep. The pups woke in the middle of the night crying, so I had to let them out to potty. My alarm went off two hours later.
Today I continue to deal with a major crisis for our state meeting, which could very well be in peril of cancellation due to the ineptitude of others. I found out yesterday they were still not registered in SAMs, a system my employer uses to determine folks are in good standing financially and enables us to pay them if we exceed a certain amount in costs. The only way to save this is for them to lower the amount they are charging us OR get their shit together and get their registration up to date in the next couple of days. I’ve been working on this damn thing since February, and to find out less than a week before we’re supposed to be there that my employer could make us cancel has me sick to my stomach. A presenter is flying from out of state. We have local dignitaries, including tribal representatives coming to speak, this is a huge deal.
My SD is out of the country, so she doesn’t know…yet. My deputy is on leave and will not check emails until late, if at all. My MPA was out yesterday. This state meeting was the biggest crisis and the one that took up most of my day. I dealt with problem travel issues, problem records management initiative issues, IT issues, and HR issues. Everyone had problems yesterday, and somehow, it was up to me to fix everything, although none of those issues were caused by anything I did or didn’t do. The day was long; I’m sure it’ll be longer today.
Even when I logged off, I took my work cell phone downstairs and continued communicating with the hotel sales staff regarding the state meeting, deadlines, and how we could fix the problem. That’s not my job, btw, but the folks they should have been talking to were all on the East Coast and long gone.
I am very tired of everything being a crisis. I’m tired of it happening, and I’m tired of talking/writing about it. When I try to vent to my husband, his answer is to just “not do it,” but it doesn’t work that way, so he’s no help. I tell him I’m just venting, not looking for answers, but he doesn’t understand
I still have to finish the third and fourth-quarter spending plans, which are due this week, and my weekly budget update, which is due today. I found out yesterday what our awards allotment is, and I have to prepare preliminary documents for that, which are also due by the end of the week. There’s all the records management stuff that continues to roll along (correcting and inputting box lists, sending notifications for approval of box lists, sending instructional guidance out concerning this project OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN, and between all that, I’m still dealing with all the HR, IT, leasing, office design, building concerns, fleet issues, and the list goes on. I can’t get to the budget stuff because I have to keep dropping it due to the fires. I am usually early with everything, and because of all of these crises, I am behind. It stresses me out.
I am tired. But, most of all, I’m tired of fixing everything.
FCM, I just saw your update. I hope the visit with Texas SIL goes smoothly.
I need to finish my coffee, feed the pups, and then head back upstairs to work again. I logged in when I got up, looking for some emails and health with those before I even had my first cup of coffee.
Not gonna happen. You’re stuck here.
Sounds like something my grandfather would do. Does FCD have relatives in Ohio?
{{{Taters}}} It sounds like firefighting is a full time job, and frustrating as well.
Arms are recovering from yesterday, but I didn’t sleep well due to discomfort and random thoughts. Decided to have a blueberry yogurt at 3:00 am and spilled a bit. I discovered later that I had spilled more than I thought, so I tried putting boiling water on my (formerly) white bathrobe.
Today we were supposed to get baseboards, but they didn’t get delivered on time. Hopefully Thursday. At least I can get to the washer and dryer now, so time for Fun with Laundry.
There was insufficient chaos for a long day, so I came home, showered and breakfasted.
Now I must venture out into the looming rain for my Aldi run, and vermouth for my Wednesday martini.
< shoves Kleenex into Interweb Tube >
Hi!
As do we.
My idiot neighbors tend to toss the trash into the recycling dumpsters marked CARDBOARD ONLY and RECYCLING. Some days I really long for The Giant Meteor.
I think you also need to book a Yak Screaming(with or without the orgy )
I have flan rings. I use them to make perfectly sized egss for egg (Mc)muffins.
For those lot, a straightjacket with ominous reddish stains would more normal.
I have a tweed blazer to go with the Irish flat cap. Just in case I should be invited up to Balmoral to go Snipe hunting with the king.
As far as I know, they’re all from the Indianapolis area. Definitely all in Indiana - his parents were the only ones who moved away, following FIL’s job.
TX SIL’s plane arrived and I’m assuming she’s about done with baggage claim. FCD is supposed to call when they’re on their way. MIL is still abed. I’m about to have lunch. Yep, things are that exciting here.
And late morning greetings from Ali-bama. Stayed in bed until 8am today (retirement is wonderful) and then did my braunschweiger run (found a store that has Oscar Mayer Braunschweiger that is about 20 minutes closer than the previous place) so am stocked up until Vacation time in June, then put a little gas in the car and bought gauze/tape/bandages for replacements over the stitches when I shower. Of course as soon as I got home the Wal-Green’s I had just visited called with a prescription for the hyperthyroidism that the Doctor prescribed, so I have to go back there in a bit. Cool today (70F) and cloudy, with rain expected this afternoon so soccer is likely to be cancelled again. Will get over to the gym here in a bit a cycle some calories off (I bought 450 calories worth of peanut M&Ms because damn their good) and then we’ll see how the day goes.
FCM, I can remember getting headaches when I was younger that were so severe that I literally had to throw up to get them to go away. Fortunatley they disappeared about 25 years ago, hope SIL’s goes away sometime. It’s a miserable thing.
Coppertone, terrible story with your friend (and you). Glad the ^&^)(_) is in jail, hope friend has learned from the experience.
That is…extraordinary. At least for this life-long suburban dweller.
Cat Glove, bet the garden will look nice.
Sensei, 60 mile hikes…6 miles would probably do me in…nellie and flyboy could handle it. though.
boo fae, glad the tooth cleaning went well, do they use a little spinning thing to apply the polish there? I hate it when they do that, the spinning part always contacts my gums and drives me crazy.
BBBoo, good on ya for volunteering on the vote. Just wait until November…
I would try that.
Taters, you can only be competent for yourself and document the other folks idiot behaviors thoroughly if the thing crashes, take care of yourself first.
OK, need to gather up the exercising clothes and go pick up the new prescription, then off to the gym to do some wholesome sweating, Take care all.
